Westside Heating & Air Conditioning

I was very impressed by the professionalism of Westside. Ron, the owner, was thorough in assessing our air conditioning needs. His team arrived when promised and performed the installation of the equipment and necessary ductwork at the highest level of quality. Westside was the most professional of all the air-conditioning service firms that I asked to quote a system for us. I would recommend him without reservation....and I have very high standards!

We had two old HVAC Lennox systems, dated at least 25 years old. Both had repeated problems, and we finally decided on replacing with new modern systems. Had 5 bids received from different companies, and Ron and Westside Heating were ultimately the best. The dates of service were arranged, and they showed up on time. They did all their work as described. These guys were responsible and courteous. The work was done in less than the time they said they would. They called a few days afterward to make sure that the systems are working well, which was appreciated. Now, with 4 months out from the time they did the installation, I'm still very satisfied with the work they did, and would whole heartedly recommend them to anyone.

The technician showed up on time and did the work in a neat and workmanly fashion. Couldn't ask for more.

My central air stopped working, and I was expecting to have to get a new system. The existing system, installed by a previous owner, was about 15 years old and a pretty low-end system. So I went on to AL, researched good contractors and made appointments with a few to get bids. The next day, a sales rep for another well-regarded contractor came by and gave me a bid. The day after that, Mike from Westside Heating & Cooling dropped by. He took a look at the old unit--and immediately said he wanted to see if a small repair would get me back in business; he said he'd hate to sell me a new system if all the old system needed was a small fix. Mike grabbed his toolbox; opened the compressor; and very quickly determined all I needed was a small part called a capacitor. He had the part in his truck and installed it; back in business. He then took a look at my overall HVAC system and concluded the gas furnace was in excellent shape; and that the central air probably was good for another five or 10 years. Mike told me all I needed to do was replace the filter; the house has a fancy air filtration system that requires special filters, and Mike said I could buy that filter online for a lot less than he'd have to charge me. (Addendum: I followed his suggestion and got the filter online and inserted it myself--piece of cake.) I appreciate Mike's honesty and integrity. I told him he missed a chance to sell me a new system--but that he won me over as a customer and fan. Mike invoiced me $202 for the central-air part, a service call and travel time. I consider the price reasonable and absolutely will rely on Westside Heating & Cooling in the future. Westside Heating & Cooling is a small, ethical business run by Mike and his partner. Congratulations, Mike, you're one one of the good guys. When I have future HVAC issues, I am going straight to Mike and Westside Heating & Cooling. When Mike tells me I do need a new system, I will believe him.

We are fairly certain our problem is simple as neither the air or furnace will work and they are separate units, but they won't even come give me a diagnosis.

I knew I’d found the Trane dealer to replace my condo’s antique HVAC unit when I said ‘it’s stopped & I don’t want it patched’ & Ron of Westside Heating & Air Conditioning said ‘you want it done right’. I wanted a Trane because of their ‘do it right’ philosophy & because they stand behind their products & their dealers. Westside offers excellent service & top quality. They met all my expectations. I wanted a thermostat easy to program & I had concerns about the condensation drain lines & the care of the property. Ron coordinated with the maintenance supervisor to assure that the condensation drains are cleared yearly. The men used drop cloths & when they were done, left the roof, condo, hallways, stairs, & elevator cleaner than they were at the start. Experienced professionals & conscientious, willingly accommodating my schedule, Ron & his team were able to efficiently replace the old equipment in two days. The dispatchers, Kathy & John, were pleasant & helpful. Ron came to my condo for a consultation to see what would be required to install a new system & stay within the HOA’s requirements. Mike was superb supervising & working alongside the other two men in accomplishing the installation. Matt took the time I needed to learn how to program the thermostat, which is easy to operate because of his patient instruction. He did the startup & my Trane is smoothly running down the track because of his knowledge & skill. I watched Jay do the ductwork. He’s a true architect & artisan. Westside’s technicians are hard working craftsmen. Matt told me Ron would have no less. I love their great work ethic & have scheduled them for maintenance in a year. I’m aware we’ve had a recent heat wave here in LA because I watch the news, but other than that, I didn’t notice. I have my ‘unstoppable’ Trane & I am a very satisfied, happy Westside customer. Westside Heating & Air Conditioning has been in operation since 1986. The bulk of their business comes from customer referrals & I gladly offer mine.

Our air conditioner stopped working one night, and early the next morning I searched Angie's List and called Westside at 7:30 am. I spoke to Ron who was very sympathetic and he told me that they would try to get someone to the house that very day. At 10:00, Mike was at my door! Mike listened attentively to my description, and then began systematically checking out the air conditioning system. He kept me informed of his findings at each step of the way, he was very neat and tidy, and he brought all of his own equipment (despite me offering flashlights for the attic, our ladder in the garage, etc). Mike fairly quickly discovered that our fan and the switch weren't working, and he showed me in detail as well. He said he would get a quote and call me back. Within 30 minutes, Mike called back with an estimate for the fan and installation, and reviewed the likely timeframe. The part came in on schedule and Mike was here bright and early the following morning to install the new parts. They system is now working perfectly! The installation went easier than expected, and he brought down the total cost by $50-100 over the estimate. Mike also showed me details about our whole system and what routine maintenance we can do (replacing thermostat batteries annually, replacing 2 fillters twice a year, etc.). We will be using Westside for all of our HVAC needs!

They were quick, clean and extremely conscientious. Ron's partner Mike supervised the entire job and we felt we were in good hands. Thanks for all the hard work!

I was EXTREMELY pleased with Ron and his team! It's rare to find good service and good pricing like this in West LA. Ron showed up exactly on time, was quick with his estimate and easy to work with and delivered on time and on budget hassle free. I strongly recommend working with him.

This was really a great experience. I had a heatpump installed 10 years ago that was too large for the size of my house and ductwork, and due to the mismatch finally conked out. Over the years of trying to keep the system going, I had several A/C repair and contractors (highly rated on other sites) work on the system. The options presented ranged from putting mini-split systems in all of the rooms in my house (like I really want the outside of my house to look like Motel 6) to a complete redo of the system for a price similar to what Westside charged (this guy was nice but way too schmoozy and when he actually had to do some work himself on the system instead of his crew it seemed like he hadn't actually worked on an A/C system in a while). So I searched Angies List and settled on Westside because of the reviews. I called and spoke to Ron - he admitted the location of my house was a bit out of their usual territory but set up an appointment for an estimate. Mike came and did the estimate and discussed some very reasonable proposals while he was there taking measurements, etc. He was knowledgeable, polite, professional, and knew what he was doing - that was very clear. He also said that he would be helping with the installation, which I thought was key to avoiding communication errors between what we talked about during the estimate and what actually would happen with the installation. The estimate was e-mailed within a day or two, and Ron and Kathy were good to follow-up by phone to see if I had questions, etc. The installation was great. They actually called to see if they could come a couple of days early to install in the system which worked out well. They were done in a day and a half with no mess, no dust, no dirty handprints....nothing. They needed to cut through the hardwood floors to put in a new floor register - which was done perfectly according to what we had discussed. When I left them at my house to go to work, I actually didn't even worry about what I would find when I got home (not so great experience with contractors in the past). The system has worked perfectly since installation. Mike did come out again a couple of weeks later to put some additional tape to seal some minor air leaks in the ductwork. They always showed up early or on time for every appointment, and called several days ahead to reschedule an appointment they weren't going to be able to make. These guys are the best - this really is how the experience should be having work done on your home.

Ron, Mike and their team were wonderful from start to finish. Very friendly, knowledgable and professional. Ron met with me twice and answered numerous questions (I did my homework) in person and by phone so that I could be sure I knew what I was getting and that I was making the right decision. Ron never pushed bigger, more expensive equipment than was necessary, which other companies I met with had. When the decision was made, Ron planned the layout of the ductwork and system. Mike and their two other friendly and knowledgable team members (no subcontractors or inexperienced employees) came to my house on time, were very clean and efficient. They got the job done in less time than predicted and made sure I understood everything about the equipment before they left. After spending the first half of the summer without A/C, I am thrilled with the system and the work that they did. This was a no-worry experience that was well worth the research I did beforehand. As it was July when I finally got around to doing the necessary work, Westside (like many other companies) were very busy, but they came out right away to speak to me and gave me the earliest date available. I had to wait an extra week or so to have them do the work but I knew Westside was the right company and they were worth the wait. The summer is obviously a very busy time!! I would highly recommend this company for big or small jobs.

They have great reviews and I hate to ruin it. I contacted them on 6/28/13 today is 7/15/13. I never heard from them, no response what so ever.

Well, I can't say enough great things about our experience with Westside heating and air. We called for a quote the day before 4th of July and Ron was at our door on the morning of the 4th. Yes, that's right, on the holiday! He looked around and got us our quote within 2 days. Ron and Matt came the next day to do the installation. The work was done in one day. Responsible. Hard working. Focused and very polite, the guys did a fantastic job! Early the next morning the electrician came to hook it all up. So from our first call to a cool, quite house took less than one week. Westside was professional, prompt, responsive, flexible when we wanted a modest change, price competitive, great service and cleaned up after themselves. Excellent work. I found them on Angieslist and am very happy to recommend them to others on Angieslist. Great vendor.

Challenges to our installations included an older 2 story house with major differences in heating and air conditioning needs for the upstairs and downstairs. Ron came up with a zone system and very efficient A/C equipment (to handle the very high cost of electricity in Santa Monica). Also, he was able to salvage an older electronic air cleaner (still was working well) from a previous system and included it in the new system. That saved money. He cleverly designed it all to fit into the small equipment closet to hold all the stuff. Mike did a great job installing all of this. The system works great. For example, the system turns off downstairs at night (thanks to programmed thermostats, of course) and, during summer, just cools the upstairs thanks to the zone system and two thermostats. All the hot air from the first floor and the sun beating down on our roof during the summer really drives up the temperature in our second story bedroom. The new system handles it beautifully and, according our electric bills, inexpensively. With separate programs for heating and cooling, and the two zone system, everything works great for our mild winters, with occasional periods of a few cold days or weeks. For putting a heating and cooling system in our very useful guest room over garage, we were sensitive to our neighbors and didn't want to put the compressor (or whatever that outside thing is called) right on the property line next to them. However, with our garage next to the bedroom of their house, just a few feet away, we had little space and little choice. So, Ron came up with a device that is small (about the size of a very large suitcase) and that fits in the very tight space between property lines and is quiet. Our young neighbors say they don't hear it. The rest of the equipment goes in the utility closet that is a small space on the first floor of the garage. But, again, Ron's clever design and Mike's installation did the trick. By the way, Mike also was able to track down an annoying sound from a piece of ductwork from an old installation done by another contractor about 30 years ago. It drove me crazy, but is now gone. We're very satisfied with their work over the past 25 years. We've recommended them to others on multiple occasions. They probably are not the lowest in price. But, you get what you pay for. We plan to stay in our house for a number of years. Therefore, we consider a reliable and well-installed system a bargain. Other than infrequent maintenance calls, we've only required one minor repair in all these years. I think that's due to the good equipment they use and the good manner of their installation. Also, on a personal note, they are a pleasure to work with.

Thru bidding and installation Westside was always punctual. The job was to take 2 1/2 days and they completed in 2. They covered the floor with tarps and left the work area clean and tidy. Ron and his crew were always friendly and professional. I'm very impressed with this firm and plan on using in future. Oh, I was lucky enough to have system installed prior to record-settiing heat wave and air conditioning has been working perfectly.

Westside Heating did a fantastic job from the initial quote to the work to the follow up afterwards. During the estimate Ron listened to what I wanted and provided with options that made sense to ensure that I would be happy. He then provided me with a detailed estimate so that I knew exactly what his plan was and what to expect. The team doing the work was perfect. They kept me updated every step of the way and ensured that any concerns or questions I had were answered. Furthermore, they worked wonderfully with other contractors I had working at the same time (Electric, GC, etc). When the other contractors had issues that would impact HVAC, the Westside guys simply rolled with the punches and got the problem solved and job done. I just cannot say enough good things with these guys. If I do have any HVAC needs in the future, I will make one call- to Westside. There is simply no reason to call anyone else.

Ron took great care of me - installing the right system into my small (less than 800 sq ft) home. They installed the new system, ran duct work and vents. Although I just had the heater fully installed, I was considering adding Air Conditioning, so I had them install the pipe and add on unit while the walls were open. They did a great job. Were flexible and worked around my schedule.

Our original system which they installed approx 9 years ago was costly, around $30 K--and wow, has it made a difference for us! We all have asthma and various allegies, and purifying our indoor air, along with keeping us warm or cool, has been very beneficial for our health. Both of our adult children have used the company for similar services in their own homes, and have also been very pleased.

The owner of the company apologized and told me that his company did not service my area. He was extremely nice -- and he gave me some tips regarding the types of service-providers that I would need to talk to. VERY helpful!!

A very thorough proposal was presented with a list of clients he had worked with which looked like the who's who of santa monica. The list included what Ron had done at their homes and phone numbers to contact them. I knew many of the people. He also included a list of contractors that he was currently working with and phone numbers to contact them. The work was done in November 2010 - high quality, finished on time, clean up excellent, all the employees who worked on it were wonderful and Ron was able to identify furnaces which would work for our home. As I said it was a challenge to take down the existing furnaces from the roof and basement and to replace them. My husband and I were greatly relieved and appreciative of the work done. I had a routine service done Nov. 2012. There was nothing that needed to be done. Finally, I have lived in our house for 38 years and have had many remodels done - I can honestly say that Westside Heating and Air Conditioning was outstanding in all aspects. I would recommend them whole heartedly.

Ron came by and inspected our current system. We talked about what needed to be done and why and he sent us a detailed contract with exactly what would be done. He was able to include some optional work in the contract price, also. After contracting to do the work, he came by again to do a detailed system design prior to Mike and Matt doing the install. Mike and Matt were here on time and did a professional job. They made sure the system was running well and that everything was cleaned up before they left. The system both heating and cooling work great and we are very happy with the service.

On or about April 25th, I called Westside Heating and Air Conditioning requesting an estimate on AC installation; I was told that Ron W. would call me back to set a date when he would be able to come by. Ron called me on the same day, indicating he would be able to come by in a couple of hours; otherwise we would have to meet sometimes next week. As I was working at the time, I did not get his message until later. I was out the next day so I called him back the next Monday to be told by a male (John?) that Ron was sick and he had no one else who could come by. He then told me that I might want to call another company which sounded a bit dismissive. I explained that I had been calling other companies to get different estimates but I was interested in having someone from his company come by as well. John told me that he would pass the message on to Ron who would call me. It has since been over 7 days and I believe it is safe to say that no one from Westside Heating & Air Conditioning will call back. I have since signed up with another company who has been much more responsive and professional than Westside Heating & Air Conditioning. Maybe they have a lot of business and don't care to take on more. Regardless, I would have appreciated if they would have at least take the time to contacted me, even if to decline the business. Needless to say, I don't recommend this company to anyone.

Ron and his team are true professionals. They keep their commitments and take real pride in their work. And, to top it off they were by far the best and most complete bid I received (of three total). I was a having a new roof installed at the same time so Ron and his team had to coordinate closely with the roofer - which they did to perfection. These guys are so good that they even called me (before the roofer) to warn me of some possible rain. Ron has called since they finished to remind me of my annual service requirement - he's already got it on his calendar, to remind me. Nobody better. Period. Bob
