I thought they did a very good job on my car. The guy who came out talked to me about adding a coating to my car to prevent spots and keep my car looking new. He said it was $175 and I wrote the check out to the individual who came out to do the work. I wasn’t expecting to have to pay for anything additional. He was very nice, but I felt pressured to do the coating. My car looks great, but I’m not sure if I needed it.

They were fine. They were on time, they were really efficient, they leave any kind of mess behind. I have an unruly horse and they put it back the way it is supposed to be. They took care of it. They were nice and polite. The work turned out great. I didn't see the fine print that SUVs were extra and I have an SUV and it was an extra $50. But they sent me an email about that before they came so I could change my mind, and then I had a special product put on that they gave me a discount on so in total I spent $300.

The person that cleaned it was Kenny Gordon. The person I talked to today was Mark. His respose was when you wash thar car, are the spots gone? It looks exactly the same before I hired these guys.
Description of Work: On Jan 16, 2014 when they finished detailing my car, I called Mark with concerns that after the clay job, there were still many marks left. His response was that due to tree sap, I need to have my whole car sanded down and have a new paint job. As for their wax job, car did not look very shiny, and when asked about water marks and spotting after this wax job, Kenny said to my friend Johanne and I that he assures us that would not be a problem. One week later I had my car washed due to light drizzle in Lis Angelws and it left water marks. Then had it washed second time recently and since then it will just spot from watermarks. It should not do this if my car was just waxed. Spoke to Mar on Feb 6,2014, his response was "the guy I sent says he used wax and does your car have spots after you wash it? I asked if he would send someone to check my wax job and he said no. I said I am not here to argue with you, I am just a customer unhappy with the service. I will contact angieslist, he said "go ahead" and hung up. I was in a car with a gentleman who was a witness to the call.

When we arrived to the job site and before any work was done we let the client know that there were etch marks in the clear coat finish of the vehicle from bird droppings . The customer called me while my crew was there to see if there was anything that could be done while we were there to remove these marks ans I told her that unfortunately they were through he paints finish and the vehicle in those areas would need to be repainted . I also let her know that at this point all you can do is to protect the finish of the paint to help from keep from happening in the future . After we finished the detail which was a complete detail including the Interior and Exterior the client paid us $130.00 . 2 weeks later she called me and said that after it rained a couple times there were water spots on her car from the rain and said that we must not have done our job correctly and insisted I go and take a look at it . She said that she took the vehicle to a car wash after it rained and I asked if the water spots were still there after and she said NO they were all gone and I said GREAT that means the wax we put on your car worked and did its job and she replied well the car looks the same as it did before you waxed it . She was told by here neighbor that the car should not water spot if it was waxed and I explained to her that if the car has dust or dirt on it and it gets wet from rain drops it will leave dirt spots on her car and she said that that does not make sense and it should get spots on it . She was not listening to any thing I had to say and only wanted to argue about it with me . She complained to Angies that I said things and thought things that I never even said to her and wants her money back on a job that we already did . She also watched us the whole time we were there polish and wax and detail her car so she knows we did what we were there to do and her only complaint is that after it rained the dirt spots appeared and the cars finish . I am not in business to lose money or give clients free details .

On January 20th, having not been contacted by approx.... 12:30 P.M. , I called and left a message on Starr's Voice Mail, asking if there was some kind of problem since the crew had not shown up or even called to say that they were having a problem. I received a call back a short time later from Mark explaining that the crew, assigned to my job, had experienced some mechanical problems with their truck. Mark stated that they still might be able to make it later that day if their vehicle could be repaired in time. I said that it would be better to reschedule. Monday, January, 27th at 9:00 A.M was selected to have the detailing performed. The crew arrived after 9:00 A.M. to start work on my vehicle. Alex and I performed an inspection, prior to commencing work , and due to some hard water spots on the passenger's side he suggested an Acid Wash and Teflon coating be performed to clean and protect the paint from such contaminates. He said the price was normally $125, but would give it today for $75. I agreed to the upgrade of services. The next thing I knew he had opened the hood and was trying to sell me an detailing of the engine compartment. I said that I was not interested and we moved on. After hearing the high pressure washer shutdown, I went out to see how things were going and to ask about the Clay Bar treatment listed in the Angie's List Package for $144. I was informed that Clay Baring was an outdated procedure. Alex came to report that they were finished and stated that I owed him another $125 for the job. $75 for the Acid Wash and $50 because it was a pickup. I said that I needed to check out the job before writing the check ( The original $144 was prepaid with a credit card ). Upon check the truck, it was noted that the passenger side side step chrome and wheel/hubcaps were all covered with hard water spots ( deposits ) . I inquired about why this was still existing. I was told that they had no means of getting rid of the deposits. My wife brought out some metal polish and tried to see if would remove the spots. It worked if you really worked h****** it. The Crew showed no interest in attempting to remedy the situation, so in desperation, I sent them on. After they left, I got some of my "Turtle Wax Chrome Cleaner" and proceeded to remove all of the hard water spots/deposits from the wheels/hubcaps and side step. It took me about 30 minutes to complete the job. To say I was upset, would be an understatement. After much thought, I decided to call Mark , at the home office, to inform him of my dealings with his crew. I told him of the problem with the water spots and how I resolved it. He wanted to know what I was asking for, and stated that he would discuss the situation with Alex and either Alex or he would get back to me. I asked him about whether the Clay Bar treatment was still being used by his company. His answer was "Yes" and asked why. I told him what Alex had stated. I received a call from Alex asking about my discussion with his boss. I told him that I had taken care of the problem ( Hard Water spots) with Turtle Wax Chrome Cleaner and a little elbow grease. I had paid extra to have that taken care of. He informed me that the treatment was only for the painted surfaces. I told him of my displeasure with his services although he was a very pleasant individual. I stated that he was hired so I didn't have to do the job, but I ended up having to finishing the job. His response was that he would come back in six months and let him wash and wax my truck for $75.00. I asked him if I wasn't satisfied with his job now, why would I want to pay him for another try. I requested that he return some of the cost I had incurred and was told that had been money he had earned for working on my vehicle. Figuring we were at an impasse, I ended the call. Mark has never called back to inquire if the situation had been resolved I will not recommend anybody to use Starr Detailing Inc. not only for the quality of their work, but for their Professionalism. I have performed work for people before and their satisfaction came before my profits. Just good business. !!! 2/10/14 - When Mark says that he was informed that I was already going to give him a bad review, this is simply untrue. I in fact called him stating that I wanted to give him a chance to make the situation right. He said he or Alex (the one performing the detailing) would call me back. I heard from Alex and he stated that he couldn't give me any money back and he stated he did not have the equipment on his truck to get the water spots off the chrome. My wife even brought out some chrome cleaner and he seemed satisfied to just simply leave the spots there. I told him that it seemed inconceivable that he had never encountered water spots before. He offered to clean my car again in 6 months for a reduced rate and I advised him that if I was not happy with the work now, then I would not use his services in the future. He told me he could not refund any money and that he would have his supervisor call me. I have yet to hear from the owner of Starr and will not be using their services again.
Description of Work: My wife purchased the $144 Special, that was advertised on Angie's List, as my Christmas Present. I contacted Starr Detaining with three dates ( as requested ) that fit into my schedule. The morning of January 20th was selected and agreed upon with the Company.

Yes we did have to reschedule our original appointment since our water pump went out on the way to the job on the day scheduled . The customer did call me before I had called him when we were running late because my crew was stuck on the freeway and I had been busy on the phone trying to locate a tow truck to get us off the freeway we were stuck on and to a repair shop . On the date rescheduled as noted above we were right on time . The customer pre paid for an offer that Angies ran and the additional $50 was for an SUV charge which he was informed before arriving to the job and when scheduling the appointment . The extra $75.00 that was paid on top of the $50 bringing the total to $125.00 was for a Teflon paint sealant and there was no charge for removing water spots or acid treatment . We used a non abrasive clear coat cleaner to polish the vehicle and then protected with the Teflon after . When my crew was finished with the job we pointed out right away to the customer the water spots that were left on there and could not be removed by us and after speaking to him on the phone after the job was done he was very happy with the work we performed other then the water spot that were left on his steps and hub caps , all the water spots were removed form the painted surface of the vehicle but he insisted in receiving $50.00 Back from us since he was not happy with the remaining water spots which we did not even charge him for in the beginning . I was already informed by the client that he would be giving us a bad review On Angies list since we were not going to give him back at least $50.00 .

Well, my appoint was scheduled for a certain time 2 or 3 weeks in advance. First of all, they ran 2 hours late and, instead of calling me to let me know, I had to contact them - not once, mind you, but twice. It was approximately 5 minutes after my scheduled time and I called to determine their status. I was reassured that they would arrive any minute. 45 minutes later, I called back. They were surprised that the team didn't show up, and I was told that I would receive a call back shortly. Eventually, I got another call telling me that their last appointment asked them to do two additional cars, and that they would be finishing up in 45 minutes and heading over to me. That information would've been great as soon as they found out. Because they were running so late, and because my life involves more than just sitting around all day, I asked to reschedule to a different location that was approximately 4 miles away. They did accommodate this request. It was potentially the biggest mistake I made. This second location was in a rather affluent area of Los Angeles -- that's possibly why I was so horribly upsold. I was told that the rain spots on my vehicle were not rain spots, but hard water spots from a sprinkler (even though I park in an enclosed garage both at home and at work). I was further told that unless I pay $75 extra, only cash or check, these spots would not come out. I'm not an idiot. I'm used to this game. I remember a few weeks back when I went to my local car wash, they tried to convince me to buy a buff and wax package to remove the "hard water spots." Instead, I went home and used some white vinegar and a towel. Came right off. Anyway, I'm here, after already having paid $129, and was being told the spots on my car wouldn't come out (rendering the $129 detail service useless) unless I coughed up an extra $75. I'm sorry, but I purchased a "detail" package, not a merely mobile "car wash." I really, really don't like being lied to and taken advantage of. It worked against them too, because my family has 5 vehicles and, had they not pulled this stunt, I almost definitely would've purchased this service for those vehicle too. That being said, I still tipped the assistant $25 because the he spent 1 hour on my vehicle, which was filthy, and he was breaking his back to do a good job. I won't lie -- they did do an excellent job and I was very happy with the quality of the work. But I was upsold and taken advantage of for $75. So much for the "deal." *** Update after their response *** "If his car was always garaged at home and at work then why would he have had to take vinegar him self to remove the water spots that a car wash told him he had on there that removed them." Well, if you use common sense, between the garage at home and the garage at work, there's something called "outside." Sometimes, when the conditions are right, there's a phenomenon called "rain." I know this must be a wildly new concept, but stick with me. Anyway, when this wet watery substance called "rain" falls onto my car and is left to dry for weeks, a month, or more, it leaves grimy spots, hence "rain spots." Did you follow that line of logic, or was it too perplexing for you? You extorted me for an extra $75 to remove rain spots, after I've already paid $129 for a car wash. The same rain spots that I've removed in the past, very easily, with a towel and some white vinegar. Get real.

Yes we were late to the job and I talked to the client who seemed fine at the time and nice over the phone about running late , I even asked if he needed it done by a certain time and he said no not at all and I apologized for being late and explained to him the reason why . We can always give an approximate time as to when we will be at our scheduled appointment but we really never know how much time it will take at a previous job until we arrive there and see what kind of condition the vehicles are in . We did accommodate the client and went to a different address that what we were scheduled originally to be at since we were late and to help him out . We work in many high end areas and the prices we gave our customer to do the job had nothing to do with the area he was in and were we ended up doing the job . If his car was always garaged at home and at work then why would he have had to take vinegar him self to remove the water spots that a car wash told him he had on there that removed them . When we arrive to a job and see something that needs attending to that is not included in the offer we let the client know and give them the option this way when we are done with the vehicle and show it to the client they are no problems , whether they want to pay the extra to do the work is totally up to them . He called us liars and that we ripped him off which makes no sense to me what so ever , we were more then honest and am glad that he has decided not to use us again because this is only a sign of what type of client this is and would rather not have the business from him .

This is the fourth time I have used Starr Detail. Every time, even though different people show up, has been wonderful. They have consistently done a thorough job and are fast and professional. This time, I had a teflon coat put on both my husband's and my car that was not included in the Angie's List deal, but was totally worth it. Alex did an excellent job. Got up all the dog hair from my very large Leonberger, and there was a LOT. Shampooed carpets, thoroughly washed floor mats, all vinyl, and seats. Tires and rims now sparkle. He charged me $25 extra above the $129 detailing deal because it was a truck. Originally he said it would be $50 extra; when I told him that seemed unreasonable since a Tacoma is a small truck, so he lowered it to $25. He was flexible about the date and time when I had to change it a couple of times. Did it right at my work while I was inside earning my paycheck. Very convenient and seamless.

It was difficult to schedule an appointment for service and they are slow to respond to email messages. They offered me an 8am time slot on 12/27. I accepted the appointment via email the day before and never heard back. I assumed I had the appointment since they offered it to me and I responded with a confirmation the day before. That morning I removed 2 toddler car seats, 2 strollers and a ton of other baby related stuff. No one showed up after waiting an hour past my appointment time. I called their number, received a recorded message and left a voice mail. I did receive a call back quite promptly but the person tried to reschedule me for a different day. Anyone with kids will understand what a pain it was to empty a car loaded with baby gear. I was basically told that they didn't see my confirmation email since they only checked their message once yesterday morning and had not checked it on the morning of my appointment. I don't understand why they would offer me a time slot and then not check for a response. They even said the time slot was probably taken by someone else! I gave them adequate time to receive my message but they just don't check their emails often. I asked for an afternoon appointment later that day and in the end they were able to work it out for me. They did try to correct the situation promptly so I was happy with how they responded to the situation. The detail itself was pretty good. They missed a spot of wax on the bumper and there are still water spots on my windows (from hard water spots prior to the detail). My van looks 10x better so I'm satisfied with the results. I probably won't use them again due to the miscommunication in scheduling. Life with twin toddlers makes it difficult to schedule appointments in general and I don't have the time or energy to deal with a no show. RESPONSE TO PROVIDER: Your response to me is a list of excuses as to why there was a communication breakdown. The communication breakdown was your fault and you were not clear from the beginning. When you gave me a date/time, you never said I had to receive a confirmation back from you. You have a number of bad reviews for a reason.

It just so happens that the week you chose to e-mail me was over the Holiday and I even replied to you on Christmas morning and spent the rest of the day with my family and did not receive your reply to my e-mail until the next day that you thought we were so-posed to be there . I gave you a day and time we were available for you to see if that would work for you and waited for your reply but I still needed to confirm and write the appointment in the schedule after you and I confirmed that would work for you . I do understand how it is with kids and taking everything out of your vehicle to prepare for the detail since I have 3 of my own kids and this is why I was still able to make it happen for you and have a crew out there that same day instead of making you wait for another day and we talked about this over the phone and seemed like you understood . So I guess my conversation with you over the phone and also getting a crew out there the same day did not do too much good since after reading your review it did not sound like it . I am glad it seems you are happy with your detail and enjoy it . Take care !

I think I bought 3 Angie's List Big Deal purchases. It was fine. They were good and they were thorough.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was fine. They scheduled it just fine. I didn't pay any additional. They did the expected job.
