 + -1 moreI called for an estimate and they scheduled an appointment with landscape designer within a couple of days. The designer was very patient and explained all aspects of the project, helped us choose the shapes, colors, and patterns. System Pavers website has a page where you can see locations of their other projects on a Google map. Apparently, they do a lot of work in OC - I was able to find several locations in my immediate neighborhood, walk over there and take a look. After I paid 10% deposit, they scheduled the job within a week. I met with field supervisor in the morning; we went over the project plan and made a couple of adjustments. The crew arrived later and was very efficient and professional. Job has been completed in just two days. When later I discovered a small problem with leaking sprinkler pipe they fixed it on the next business day. Overall, my experience with System Pavers has been very positive. My phone calls were always returned promptly. I put "B" on the price because it was slightly higher than other bids I received. My only issue was that they pulled my credit report without telling me about it (apparently, contractors can do that even without your social security number).
Description of Work: Backyard renovation project: removed old wooden deck and concrete, installed approximately 400 sq.ft. of pavers.

 + -1 moreTheir sales presentation was impressive, but their pricing wasn’t since it was an enormous price. They said that they would knock 20% off or some percentage off if we had the work done right then. We told them that we wouldn’t do it at that time since we wanted to think about it. Then they dropped the price three more times. I thought that was kind of disappointing because if they had just come up with a decent price to begin with, we may have used them. It was a really poor sales practice by dropping the price. It was not a good business practice. It was a free estimate. They made an appointment. Then the guy changed it and he didn’t show up. I wouldn’t use their services again.

He spent quite a bit of time with me to go over the different types of designs, measured the area and gave me a quote. I would consider contacting them again in the future.

 + -1 moreI spent $3500 on that work. They are a diamond certified company. They are a major player in the paver world. When they installed the pavers, there were some marks on the pavers which were from stacking or something. They were willing to rip out the whole things and do it over but I did not want that. I was impressed with that. They did a good job. I thought the price was reasonable for the work. They called me when they could not come.
Description of Work: I used System Pavers on 22nd of June last year to redo the patio in that backyard with pavers.

 + -1 moreThe quote was worth $30000. The work would have included 3000 square feet of pavers. I would like to say that once they quote their price, they normally start to negotiate. They will quote you a higher price initially and will wait for your reaction. They will give a reduced and best price later. They are a big company and I am sure they do a good job. They specialize in doing pavers. I didn?t use them because their price was a little high. I used another contractor, who ended up doing my entire backyard. It worked out to be cheaper. I will consider using this company for a quote in the future if required.

 + -1 moreAn appointment was made to have someone from System Pavers come to my house to give me a quote for the job. About a half hour before he was supposed to show up, he called with the excuse that he had a flat tire and couldn't come. The earliest appointment that he said he could give me that fit my schedule was one week in the future. I then contacted the head office again to find out whether or not they had someone else who could come to my home at an earlier date (in my opinion, companies that say they can handle tens of thousands of dollars worth of work should certainly have more than one employee capable of providing an estimate). They said that someone would be at my house the following day. Once again, a half hour before the appointed time, I got another call from the head office with the excuse this time that their computer system had been down and that the appointment that they had made for me could not be kept. At this point I told them that I had no further interest in System Pavers as if they kept making excuses for not fulfilling their commitments before they had the job, how unreliable would they be after they were awarded a contract? Certainly not one with me.
Description of Work: I contacted System Pavers to get a quote for having flagstone removed from a large existing patio and replaced with pavers.

 + 0 moreExcellent experience overall. Minor bumps along the way (as to be expected) were handled professionally and courteously. This was a big, complicated project with a lot of custom work (curves, steps, etc). Almost a year later I can honestly say there is nothing I would have done differently, and I am as satisfied now as the day work was completed.
Description of Work: Demolition of backyard hardscape, removal of raised pool deck area, regrading of backyard. Installed new surface drains, pavers on deck, steps and pathway. Replaced coping on pool and steps around pool area. Sub-contracted pool renovation work at the same time.

 + -1 moreI would never do business with this company. They play games with the estimate. The first price is REALLY high. I demurred. Then they tell you that if you participate in their promotion and advertising, they will knock off about a third from the price. I still said it was too high. He came down a little more, but not enough as I already had 2 lower bids from reliable companies. A couple of days later he called back and said he had gone to bat for us in a sales meeting and he could lower the price even more. I didn't even ask. I just went with Element Construction who gave me a fair price straight out. That's what I like in a contractor. Honest work and no games.

 + -1 moreI thought they were very good with follow up. Their sight manager made arangments to be here even when she had to be at a training class, so she had someone else cover. When there was some clarification on some work that needed to be done she straightened it out and was very pleasent about it. While I don't think they are the lowest price, the quality of what they did was very good. I would use them again and have even recommended them to others (which isn't something that I typically do).

 + 0 moreWow! I am blown away with all aspects of my System Pavers experience. From the initial meeting with the sales rep to the daily interaction with the work crew, it was A+ the entire time. It's obvious that System Pavers has a well-thought out process in place that allows them to deliver quality work at an affordable price. The crew were extremely hard working with the attention to detail I desire from my contractors. Each evening, the work site was spic and span. Plus, they worked quickly. From sun up to sun down, there was no lagging work ethic in this crew. They complete all that we desired of them in one week.
Description of Work: System Pavers demolished concrete on two walkways and the driveway and replaced with beautiful moss/charcoal pavers. Additionally, they removed a retaining wall made from rotting railroad ties and replaced with a stunning gray/moss/charcoal country manor retaining wall. They build landscape steps into our hillside as well.

 + 0 moreIt took quite a while for my wife and I to decide exactly what we wanted. The sales rep was very flexible and accommodating with these decisions. He made at least 3 trips to our home and multiple telephone conversations about the project. The work was spread out in 2 parts. The demolishing was done in 2007 and the pavers were installed in 2008. It was separated into two years based on our needs, not theirs. The quality of the work was very good.
Description of Work: They removed an old patio and an old sidewalk on the side of my home. They replaced it with a new larger patio and sidewalk with pavers.

They were very nice. There were some stone pavers that were leftover from the job and they even left them at my request. We would definitely use them in the future and have already recommended them to others.

 + -1 morePaver bricks were delivered to the front of my condo at 6:30am on the first day (Monday) no warning or communication of a start time. Then the crew arrived about 7:30am. There immediately were two issues. One, the crew refused to do the job as they had a "better" job down the street where access was easy. Second, the construction supervisor did not like the situation. I had gone out and purchased carpet and moving pads and plastic to cover my tile floor going from the front door to the patio door. Maybe 20 feet. He said that they would not do the work unless we signed a waiver stating they would not be responsible for any damage to the house, including the floor. I refused. For the next 3 days they tried to twist my arm and even offer me money. Then they said they would do the job going over the wall. Finally they called and told me the job was canceled and they would not do the work. My $1000 deposit is supposed to be in the mail, and the bricks were finally picked up on Friday. We wasted an entire week, the time, and the money of the floor coverings. Now we have to find another company.
Description of Work: We have a 500 sq ft patio with restricted access (over the wall or through the house). Systems Pavers came to the house twice to scope the work and provide an estimate. It was a $10,000 job. Even though we thought they were expensive they sold us on service and the fact that my job would be difficult - bucket brigade to do demo of the current patio and work done via the house or over the wall. We signed the contract.

 + -1 moreI question whether a company in this kind of business could inadvertently make a 15% error in measuring the area of a driveway, a number of critical importance in determining the cost of the job. I subsequently contracted with another company to do the job at a much more reasonable cost.
Description of Work: Systems Paving was the first company I contacted for an estimate for replacing my 1600-sq. ft.concrete driveway with pavers. The company representative gave a very good exposition of the work to be performed and the company qualifications for doing the work. His measurements of the driveway resulted in a figure of 1876 sq. ft. which he translated into a total cost of $36,400. He smoothly offered a 25% discount resulting in a total cost of $27,300. He asked for my reaction and I told him that I was shocked. I knew that the cost of replacing the driveway with new concrete would be considerably less and I told him that I thought a paver driveway would be in the vicinity of $16,000. He then offered an additional 10% discount resulting in a total cost of $24,575. Even this price seemed excessive and I decided to contact other companies for estimates. I contacted two other companies, both of which estimated the driveway to be in the vicinity of 1600 sq. ft, 15% less than the Systems Paving number. I called around and found out that a paver driveway should cost between $8 and $12 per sq. ft., depending on the particular pavers selected and the design. Even at the discounted price Systems Paving was charging $13 per sq. ft. and on top of this, their cost was calculated on the basis of a significantly exaggerated size of the driveway.

 + -1 moreThe workmanship is excellent and the workers are very professional and outstanding. We were impressed that there was a knowledgeable foreman for a crew of 4 workers. They all worked very steadily and did not waste time. It took four days to complete the work and three times a supervisor stopped by to check on the work. She was knowledgeable and had the workers perform their work to the highest standard. The salesman who wrote-up the contract and "sold" us on this driveway treatment was knowledgeable and patiently answered all of our questions. We are very impressed with the beautiful driveway and with the workmanship of the installation.
Description of Work: Systems Paving, Inc. replaces asphalt and concrete driveways with paving stones in a wide array of colors and patterns that are guaranteed for life. The old driveway is taken-up and hauled away, the earth beneath is dug out, then filled with a layer of compacted gravel on top of which a layer of sand is spread. The stone pavers are then laid down.

 + 0 moreDefinitely overpriced compared to other estimates we received. They also use a paver of lesser quality than some of the other companies. In addition, the salesperson did not have the expertise that other salespeople did as far as drainage and creative solutions for our space. Once they learned we were getting additional estimates they wanted to offer us a discount. We felt that this is not an honest/straightforward way to conduct business. Give us the best price upfront. We went with another company and received so much more for our money. ($24,000)
Description of Work: A salesperson met us at our home to evaluate the project and give us an estimate. We had him give us a proposal for our long driveway, small patio and the adjacent side of the house. He was timely and pleasant.

 + 0 moreI emailed to get appt. Salesman came the next day. Very nice, sales manlike. They gave me a discount to write a referral & put a sign in my yard. When I asked about the Angie's List coupon, they said that was the referral discount. So there really isn't a discount for Angie's List. The workers were great, very hard working & nice. We tried to communicate even though we didn't speak the same language. When a question came up, there was no supervisor. I'd have to go out & show them what I wanted as best I could. I felt like I had to be there all the time. The problems that occurred could have been prevented if there was a supervisor that came more often than 1 hr. per day, & they need a supervisor who speaks the language of the workers. My wants/needs couldn't be communicated to the workers & they couldn't ask me things because they couldn't speak English. There were different workers on different days, so that made it hard also. The subcontractors did a great job & were nice to son & do
Description of Work: They removed 3000 square feet of concrete from my driveway, patio, walkway & around my pool. They removed several inches of dirt, which meant making a run to the dump with a truck load of tree roots, which had cracked my patio terribly. The put in a drainage system & as they were working they paid attention to how water would flow, & made sure that it drained away from the house. They then put down gravel, then sand & compacted and smoothed it. Next, they started laying the pavers, alternating colors in a randomly artistic manner. They carefully eliminated the stones with flaws. Then they cut the pavers so that the border would be even and curve nicely. They put cement around the edge of the pavers & set border stones in. Next they put on a different type of sand that goes in all the crevices to help keep the stones from moving. They cut the cement coming out from the garage door with a saw & laid pavers to that cut so that my cracked garage floor wouldn't show. Also laid a mowstrip.

What we didn't get that was promised: < > In fact, the first crew (installers are subs) simply walked off the job, claiming it was "too hard." Website: Don't start "unless there is a written plan and proper drawing" and "clearly stated in the agreement what you are paying for and the various steps involved." There isn't enough room on the contract for such details (insist on a separate sheet and spell everything out), and the tiny "proper drawing" bears little resemblance to the steps we got. Debris remained until last day and the stone saw was plopped down in the front yard for maximum disruption/mess. Lessons.
Description of Work: Demo asphalt driveway plus concrete walkway, front steps and pool steps. Build retaining walls. Install concrete pavers over all.
