Rated B on punctuality due to delay in supplying pavers because of problem at their production facility delayed job by a week. Rated B on Professionalism because they failed to advise client that this particular paver style results in wide sand joints that with significant wash-out potential until after job was complete and then tried to up-sell a sealer / stabilizer for $1,000 extra. as they say this is normal for this paver it should be included in the base scope or at least client should be advised in advance. Otherwise a very good job. I would use them again.

This was a great installation and we have gotten compliments from our neighbors and friends about how much this has improved the front and the back yard. The installers were very skilled at stone work and meticulous in ensuring that the final result looked right. The project manager worked to ensure that any questions/concerns were immediately addressed. One of the big value adds for me was how System Pavers process for installation results in a very solid platform, and their guarantee for any issues that might arise after installation. I am very pleased with their work.
Description of Work: Installed pavers along the front driveway and a path leading up to the front door, constructed steps and a planter area next to the front porch. Installed a paver path from the back door to the patio along with a planter area next to the patio. Also loped the back yard to provide better drainage.

This was the worst experience I ever had with any home improvement work. I called system pavers for a estimate and they sent out a sales person, who came out on time and spent about 2 hours for the estimate. At the end he was pushy saying this will be your dream drive, so I asked how much would it be he said for 19k. I said thats a lot of money for a simple driveway. he said we have a promotion for free demolish and removal of the exsistiong driveway. He came back with $17,800 and i said thats still more then what I wanted to spend for this driveway. Then he said I could give you last months promotion and now its $16,900 and I said thats not much of a difference. So the salesman said you are getting a top of the line company and told me they did Angles Stadium and Union Bus station so I said If this job is done good and I have no issues lets do it after 1 hour of him being pushy. That was my mistake for letting him talk me into it. The job starts they 1st of all don't do there own work it's sub contracted to someone else who is not licensed or insured but hey thats fine if the job is done good. The 2nd thing is there is no communication between the salesperson, project manager and sub contractor. Now they demolish the drive way and they cut all my sprinkler pipes and I ask the sub contractor while I see him cutting way, I asked him are you gonna connect the pipes back and he said they must pay me extra for that. So I said that's between you and the company. So I call the project manager and he said thats extra I said that weird. You are going to re-do my driveway and now I don't have working sprinklers. Noe I upset and call the salesperson and he said let me see and nothing happened. Now I'm bust buying a new home and moving my business I don't time for this stress, so I tell the the subcontractor just make it easy for my gardner to connect the pipes and I'll have him do it. He said okay so now after the job is done. My gardner comes and says they screwed up everything and now I cant get water to the back without maybe messing up part of the pavers. I NOw I have my sprinklers working in the front but not the back so I must hand water. Now it's been 3 days and some of borders have sunken a little and I have some chipped pavers and the company never asked me about sealing my driveway so I call another company to do it. But before the other company does the sealer I called System Pavers to come and change the cracked pavers and the borders. They send the subcontractor out and he changes the cracked pavers but does not bring not tools but a hammer and saw while I told system that the following day I'm getting the driveway sealed. I can't continue other projects until the sealer is done so I don't get any stains on the driveway. So when system pavers came to replace repair the pavers, I just had them fix the crack ones and just leave this headaches is not worth it. About a week before the salesperson came out to quote my back yard and I told him about a few concerns and what not he said don;t worry it won't happen in your back yard and when should we start this 70k job. I said let me think about it while internally I was laughing and he said okay and left without leaving the estimate. I then had 2 other companies come out and quote me back yard and my driveway that system did. My back yard they told $40k and $43k. The driveway 7k And 8..... I GOT RIPPED OFF sorry for me venting, I asked system what is my sq. ft. cost the salesperson said we don't calculate that way. Other companies all went my sq. ft. and told me they do take of sprinklers and the borders of the driveway should be even. I know if down the line I have issues with the driveway and system doesn't take care of it I have already contacted my lawyer who is already on retainer for so it won't cost me nothing. I was contacted a corporate manager regarding this issue. They came over and looked at the driveway and agreed with me that the driveway had defects. They fixed all the repairs and connected the sprinkler line that goes to my back yard. Also sealed everything for no charge. I'm happy with the way they handled the situation and stood by there word. The driveway now looks perfect and I was assured if I have any issues they will fix it.

Although this company is not the cheapest, I feel the price was worth the quality of the job and professionalism of all of the folks throughout the process. I don't mind spending a bit more on a project like this knowing that it will last me perhaps indefinitely. The consultation process was easy. I did have to negotiate, but I think that is the case with all services like these. Everyone was right on time for all the appointments. I could not believe how quickly and beautifully the work was performed! I have a rather large driveway and had a large raised concrete porch at the front of the house. They demo'd and redid all of this in only one and a half days!!! There were 10 people on the job. I was thrilled. It is beautiful and I fully recommend this company.

The work they did was excellent but the service was not. The project was supposed to take 5 business days and ended up taking over 2 weeks They did not start on-time and changed the bid midway through (not working weekends and mis-ordered back-ordered supplies) and also tore through our cable line. The bid ended up being off by $2,000. They were quick to respond and easy to get a hold of. We’ve received a lot of compliments on our driveway.

The job was adequate and the work, once it was done, was excellent. They did what they said they were going to do. The salesman and project manager were helpful. Due to an unethical action by one of their employees I would most likely not use this company again and the company did take measures with this employee and has followed up with me twice.

Driveway work was done in April 2013. Installation included a neutral sealing of the pavers. This type of sealer was not suppose to change the tone of the pavers. However, it was clear that it significantly darkened the pavers. They told us it would revert to the natural tone within two weeks, but it did not. We told them we would not have sealed the pavers had we known this would occur. They then tried to fix the problem by recompacting the pavers. All this accomplished was to cause a very uneven blotching of the pavers. I tried using hot water and scrubbing the pavers to remove the sealer, but that did not work. Fortunately, I had a sand blaster and I fix a small section and told them they would need to do the remaining area. They then tried to power wash the pavers, but that did not work. At that point (three months later), I notified them that unless they fixed the problem within the 90 day period following the installation, I would invoke their money back guarantee. They said that guarantee did not apply to the sealer. However, I told them since the sealer was a change order to the original contract, all of the provisions of that contract, including the money back applied. They then agreed to refund me $1000 of the total amount and I sand blasted the remaining area. Throughout this whole three-month process, they were very unresponsive to my phone calls and emails. It is clear that they are only interested in making the original sale and not backing up their work. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!

Project manager Robert and crew Erasmo and Melvin arrived on time. Work crew worked hard to prepare my backyard for artificial turf and pavers. Finished job in three days. Only negative item: I wasn't told the pavers would be delivered by large truck (Angelus Block Company) early the morning of my project start date. Luckily I was home and already had gotten up early that morning. Job was finished on time. Excellent work!

The issue I had with System Pavers was not the initial workmanship. The problem was with their warranty service. A week after the driveway was installed, one guy, who seemed in a hurry came out to seal it. The sealer was not properly applied; it may have been watered down. Consequently, sand began disappearing from between the pavers, especially after a rain. I had to call six different times for warranty service before I even got a response. After waiting weeks, the same guy came out with a small ketchup sized bottle of sealer, for what he called, "touch-up". He didn't want to reseal the whole driveway because a second coat would be "counter productive". After doing some basic research, I later found out what he told me isn't the case at all. The problem with the disappearing sand between the pavers continued. Since System Pavers flatly refused to fix the the sealer issue, I decided I would re-seal the driveway myself. I called System Pavers again to ask what product they used to seal it so I could purchase the same sealer from a builders' supply. The lady told me she would have "engineering" call me with that information. It's been days, and I still haven't gotten a return call. Interestingly, System Pavers has a referral policy that sounds fantastic. If one of their clients refers them for a job, they will send that client a $500 referral fee. Some people, who haven't experienced calling System Pavers for warranty service, may refer them to receive the reward. However, I have later run into other people, who went with other paver contractors, for their driveways and told me they paid almost half of what we paid. Someone's paying for that $500 referral fee, think about it! So here's my advice: even though they claim their work has a 25 year warranty, they fail to mention that they will follow-up on service, sometime around when H*** freezes over, and then good luck getting any results. If you want a great driveway at a great price, AND great warranty service, do yourself a favor and look for another contractor.

The contractors worked very efficiently and professionally in every way and completed all work on time. The results are beautiful. We really couldn't be happier. John McCabe in sales went out of his way to explain everything and to ensure that every detail in the design was as we requested. Leno, the manager made sure that all our questions and concerns were answered. We were especially impressed by crew chief Rigo and his entire crew who were perfectionists and obviously take great pride in their work. The artistry of the finished project has drawn lots of comments from the neighbors.
Description of Work: Removed existing concrete driveway and steps and installed tumbled paver stone driveway and steps.
Very well. They did an excellent. This is one of the cases where it was worth the price. Sometimes you pay more and the job and don't get your monies worth. They did everything on time. The workers were delightful, professional, friendly w/o being abnoxious, kept her informed, answered questions as to what they were doing. They did a BEAUTIFUL job of designing.

They did a very nice design job. They followed up on phone calls, there were no issues. One of the overseers had to step out for a couple of days and the other supervisor called and stopped by in his place. They were very professional.
Description of Work: They offered free demolition. I had a concrete back patio, they removed the old concrete slabs and reinforcements. They installed system pavers in its place and extended the patio area and enhanced the landscaping by making it more artistic. It has curves now and flows better with the property line.

The design rep (aka vacuum cleaner type sales man) did arrive on time and was dressed very professionally. We told him what we were looking for (and he seemed a bit perturbed initially that we didn't want to tear out our driveway- just widen it.) So we then went inside and watched the video on the company while he took measurments and drew out plans. He came back in and and showed us his plans and discussed color options and then pulled out a contract that we had to SIGN NOW if we wanted the deal. The "deal" started at $8k but since we could get X discounts it would go down to $6k. And our project "didn't qualify" for the free lighting. What about the "free digital rendering"- oh- we can't do that since you're not doing the whole driveway? (seriously?). You have to sign NOW if I walk out of here the deal is VOID. No discounts. Well we wanted to think on it, discuss it, look at our options. Too bad. No contract TONIGHT no discounts. Seriously- it was like being on a used car lot, allowed to test drive one car (with no clue of the cost) and being told that we could ONLY look at this car and no others or we would have to pay twice as much?!?! We told him we weren't ready so he starts cutting the price again. All in all- he was here for almost 2 hours and we could hardly get him to go. It was almost 8pm, we were trying to get our son to bed, etc. I have never been "forced" to make a $8000 decision so quickly! Of course we said NO. And the worst part- it does look like they would do a good job! Seems like high quality workmanship. But since we've never looked at this stuff before we couldn't compare companies- we just weren't ready to jump in to it. Bottom line- if you want a quote from these people- get quotes from other first, have an idea of what it will cost and how much you want to spend BEFORE inviting them in to your home. And don't expect the "digital rendering or free lighting"
Description of Work: Bait and Switch "Free Consultation and Digital Rendering" for pavers. A door to door rep came by our house and gave us an offer for a free "no-obligation" design consulation and digital rendering of our home for new pavers. MY husband and I are currently looking for solutions to broaden our driveway and install a new walkway to our front door- so this sounded like a perfect way to explore our options. The only way we could get the "deal" was to make an appointment right away (and we could then also get a "free" lighting system- so we made the appointment for later that week. (This should've been the first clue to the pushiness of the company- but hey it's "no obligation" so why not?

I had not contacted System Pavers at first because their address in Santa Ana did not seem geographically desirable to my Hollywood Hills home site. Turns out they serve all of Southern California, so don't let the street address of the headquarters deter you. I did, however, contact 3 other companies first. All were enthusiastic, but then fell apart when they realized that our location was not typical. We are on a road that goes through the Hollywood Hills. There is no curbside parking (however, we did have permission from our neighbors to use one of their on-site parking spaces). There is a mountain on one side, and cliff on the other. Our house is on a downslope, with the front (the area that needed the pavers) being 95% on solid ground. We didn't realize the potential difficulties this would present until we met with 3 other companies. Remember, the salesmen are always positive everything will be fine. The first company had a start date (granted, at a lower price of about $10,000), when the crew chief came by to look at the house. He had a hissy fit, talking about extra crews, problems with bringing the pavers to the existing step and to the street, and then raised the price by 30%. We declined. Second salesman spent time with us and was going to check on the permit necessity, then never called us back. Third guy was a concrete stamper, not a paver installer. His price was the same as the pavers, but with the necessity to reseal every year, and the potential for more cracking. At half the price, we might have considered it. Finally called System Pavers, who are the largest, but didn't have any great reports on Angie's List. Had a delightful salesman, Chris Lopez, come to the house. Nobody batted an eyelash about our L.A. location. By now, I had a list of possible complications that I could review with him. He addressed each of them and was the first one to come up with a good solution for the area in front of our front door where we couldn't dig down to put the pavers. He suggested more of the slate that was already decorating the front of our house, so it would all blend together. Easy solution (this we will do on our own). He wrote down all the issues. We negotiated a price. It was higher than what I had hoped to pay, but at this time felt it was worthwhile to get a really professional job done. He drew pictures and took photos so he could actually show the crew what they would be facing. (for one, they were going to need someone to direct traffic). He said they wouldn't need bulldozers, but could use jackhammers (Fewer traffic issues). A few days later, an area supervisor came by the house, spent time going over the issues with my husband, and told us there shouldn't be any major problems. Also told us they would have to get permission from the city to go to the street line. We had originally had the work scheduled for mid-December, to be finished before Christmas. However because of the necessity of contacting the city, it was delayed, waiting for a response from the city. This was the only time when I felt they could have done better. I had to call Chris after Christmas to see what the status was, since I had not heard anything from anyone. He followed through, and within a few days we heard that the city had approved the process. We scheduled for January 7, since we were going to be out of town for New Year's. I have had a lot of remodeling done over the years and am very paranoid about getting everything in writing. I wrote down a list of the specifics we had discussed with Chris, including the step, the removal of the concrete berm, and placement of the pavers a little above the edge of our recessed entrance, so we could put the slate in to match the level. When the supervisor came by, we went over the list with him. When the initial project began, we went over the list with the project coordinator. I think this helped a lot in making sure that all our concerns were met, which amazingly they were. First day was a bit of a circus, because the workers didn't know where to put their trucks and how to set up the process (without street parking, etc.). They also delivered the pavers the first day, which I now would have recommended they do the second day (since we didn't need them until them). So there was a lot of activity, and a lot of traffic control necessary. Also, although I was assured that someone on the crew would speak English, we didn't find that to always be the case. We did seem to be able to communicate OK, and everything was done exceptionally well, but it is a little disconcerting not knowing if you are getting through or not. Our project chief showed up on the first and last days, and we spoke to her by phone the other days. We had to call her to get an update. It would be better if she had scheduled a call to us each day to review, but, again, it all turned out beautifully. The entire project was basically finished in 3 days. Amazing. The crew varied from 2-6 people, depending on what was going on. Demolition took 2 days. The actual laying of the pavers, cutting pieces to fit, etc. took only one day. Very impressive. A few touch ups along the street (they filled in the asphalt damage -which was fairly minimal), with cement, then put on a sealer, took another 2 days because we had rain one day. All together, I think they did a terrific job. The front of our house looks very "finished" now and being a former real estate agent, I am all about "curb appeal". Their workers are real craftsmen and work extraordinarily hard. They usually started at 7:30-8 a.m. and stayed until dark (4:30-5:30.) One day, they even brought spotlights, so they could work later. The job site was clean, and the workers have a real team feel to the way they coordinate their activities. I am very pleased with the quality of their work, and the result is beautiful. Would not hesitate to recommend them. One other thing: there was no up-selling once the project began. Even though my original request had been to simply remove the small concrete berm, when they found it contained a pipe, they hand-cracked the concrete around it and covered it with pavers without adding any additional cost. Classy.
Description of Work: The company replaced our concrete driveway and parking pad with pavers (between 900-1000 square feet.) They demolished the existing concrete without damage to the slate on the front of our house or around a fountain we had built on top of the concrete. They replaced a concrete step, removed a concrete berm housing a water pipe and covered it with pavers. They contacted the City of Los Angeles for permission to take the pavers to the street level (we have no sidewalks on our street), controlled traffic (there are only two lanes where we live and no parking, except in front of the homes), did a very professional and clean job. Result is a gorgeous addition to our curb appeal, plus replacement of cracked concrete with something that will move with the land underneath it (important because we live in a hillside community).

This is the second time that we have had work done by System Pavers. We think that they are on the costly side, but we feel that they are worth the money. Our work was estimated to take 3-5 days but the crew of two main workers with some help from a third guy managed to finish everything in 2 days and the end product is beautiful. This crew was amazing to watch. There was very little wasted time. The grading of the ground and sand seemed effortless. We thought that there would be a problem in matching up the new patio with the old paver walkway, but part of the walkway was quickly regraded and put back so that the transition from old to new is seamless. By the way, the pavers that were installed several years ago still look very good. I was a little skeptical of putting in artificial grass in the backyard since we have a dog, but she was fine with the grass right from the beginning, and my husband is happy since the grass requires very little maintenance and always looks good. We are extremely happy with the work of System Pavers and recommend them very highly.
Description of Work: Grass removal, removal of some existing pavers, drainage installation, grading of patio area, installation of a paver patio, installation of artificial grass, connecting the existing pavers to the old paver walkway smoothly

Overall the work performed was excellent! I was surprised how fast the workers excavated and prepped the areas for the paving stones in one day. I had a unique design for the upper area and they were able to lay the pavers exactly as I had envisioned, it turned out perfect! Eric, our Design Consultant was there every step of the way along with Estella, our Project Manager. Were very pleased with the finished product and it looks fabulous!
Description of Work: System Pavers installed concrete pavers on my lower patio area and upper seating area. They also installed drainage and sprinkler lines.

Mr. Green and Mr. Lueck (CEO): During the holidays it is unfortunate that I wish to report something negative regarding your company which according to your company’s website has a 91% average customer satisfaction rating. This situation started when my spouse and I met with Mr. Jose Monteagudo (based out of Santa Ana location) on December 10, 2011 to inquire about synthetic turf for our back yard. The meeting lasted approximately 2.5 hours where Mr. Monteagudo showed us a sample of SP 400 turf and shared with us the various benefits of the synthetic turf. After this question and answer session we expressed an interested in discussing the next step. Mr. Monteagudo measured the back yard and after some fine tuning to the final plan quoted us a price of $12,674 based on 720 square feet (documented on the contract and exhibit B). We were not comfortable with the initial quote and upon further discussions with Mr. Montegaudo we received a $10,000 price for the complete job which was agreed upon by both parties. This price is also documented on the contract. Furthermore, we witnessed Mr. Montegaudo engage in numerous discussions via phone with his superior to achieve and ultimately offer us the $10,000 price. Mr. Monteagudo used our land line due to reception issues with his mobile phone. We were told the project will commence on December 19, 2011 and will last through December 21, 2011. We were static to finally have a back yard of our dreams!! On December 19, 2011 I called Mr. Monteagudo at around 9:30am to see what time we can expect the crew. It is at that point I was told that there are some final facts that he needed to confirm and the job would commence on December 20, 2011. Mr. Monteagudo also confirmed that he would call me back within an hour to confirm the December 20, 2011 start date. I did not hear back from Mr. Montegaudo and had to call him later that afternoon to confirm the plans. During this conversation I was told that there is some square footage discrepancy and System Pavers would not be able to honor the contract that we had agreed upon. After I asked to speak with Mr. Montegaudo manager I received a call from Mr. Steve Whitaker later that evening. According to Mr. Whitaker the square footage they received for Mr. Montegaudo was approximately 600 square feet. I am not sure how I interpret that fact when my contract clearly states 720 square feet. Mr. Whitaker also volunteered to re-measure the back yard himself on the 20th. I received a call from Mr. Whitaker on the 20th stating that according to his measurements there is 740 square feet in the back yard and System Pavers would not do the job at the $10,000 price per the contract! At this point I am completely baffled. How can an organization place so much effort on selling and marketing yet place no effort on training. How can we be held responsible for something that was never our fault. I am surprised that the company has no intention of making this right and honoring what was promised. I look to you to help make this situation right, I am certain that you built your organization on solid principals and honesty. I realize that we are just one customer in the grand scheme but the word of mouth is very powerful tool and can really impact a company positively or negatively. I have not reached out to the Better Business Bureau nor have I reached out to your competitors to share this experience. I felt it was important for me to first reach out to people that could possibly undo the damage that has been caused by your team. AFTER THIS THE COMPANY FLAT OUT REFUSED ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION.
Description of Work: Please see the overall story below. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!
The job that they did went very well. I liked that they were very quick to do the work and they were done very quickly. I liked the quality and the salesperson that we worked with. I would recommend them to others. They are reliable probably a little on the pricey side but probably worth the additional cost. I would use them again in the future if necessary.
Description of Work: I used System Pavers to do our front walkway, a back patio and a fire pit in our backyard.

The end result looks great but we had issues with miscommunication between the sales rep and the actual contractor and even with the working crew. All was resolved but we felt a lot of the drama could have been kept internally and not involving us, the customer.
Description of Work: System Pavers installed a patio and steps (with step lights) using paving stones in our backyard.
