Reuben Borg Fence

Description of Work: They installed a redwood fence in the fall, I believe it was October, of 2013. Several of the supporting posts were not mounted plum, but were crooked. We also SPECIFICALLY told them we did not want any concrete showing above the ground where the posts were mounted. There was concrete showing above the ground at the base of almost all the posts. They also did not nail the post caps to the posts, so they were either blown off in the wind or knocked off by animals, but several of them disappeared because they did not bother to attach them. They did not clean up after building the fence, they left boulders, rubble, concrete, old metal from the fence they removed, all over the area, and on my neighbor's side. They basically did a terrible, sloppy, careless job. I called them twice to complain. Once I left a message. My call wasn't returned. The second time I reached a woman named Diane, and told her of the issues, and that I wanted to speak directly to the owner, Julie Borg. Ms. Borg never bothered to return my call. They did eventually come out and agreed to address some of the problems. They straightened the crooked posts, replaced and nailed down the post caps. A couple of months later, some of the posts mounted in concrete rotated, and parts of the picketed sections that run across the top section of the fence became crooked and not level. I called them about this and they said this was due to ground shifting, and they were not responsible for these issues. I find it hard to believe that a correctly installed fence would move as much as it did only two months after being installed. I had to contact a lawyer to get them to come out and address this, and even then they refused to correct all of the posts that rotated, and none of the pickets. A couple of months ago I had trouble with the locks they put on the gates. I could not lock them. They sent someone out who said the gates needed to be rehung and I would have to pay them for that. They then sent out someone who said, no that was not the problem, all that was needed was for the locks to be moved slightly. He moved them, and then kindly took the time to explain to me how the locks worked; part of the issue was how you had to turn the keys to lock and unlock the gates. He was the ONLY person from Borg Fencing I dealt with that knew what he was talking about, and took the time and made the effort to assist a customer, and he resolved a problem. If I had listened to the fellow who told me I had to have my gates rehung, it would have cost me hundred of dollars. These people are totally incompetent and don't care. I would never hire them again to do anything, nor would I recommend that anyone else hire them, unless they want to buy themselves a lot of trouble. About the only thing positive I can say, is at least the fence is attractive.

Description of Work: Two jobs: Fencing and TimberTech deck to replace old RW deck. |Overall problem is crews come from Pleasonton (I'm in Menlo Park) resulting in a difficult commute and shorter workday for crews and longer time to completion. Some mis-communication at both administrative and onsite job levels. On positive side, estimator, Moises, is generally very responsive, and was willing to come out multiple times to review the job proposals and work progress. | |Fence: Overall nice looking fencing, but two gate latches do not latch smoothly (follow-up attempt to fix was inadequate-I ended up remounting one latch myself). One fence worker snapped a pvc water line in backyard in spite of my warning that it was fragile. Attempted fix by fence foreman was inadequate (I will arrange adequate repair). Just recently noted that small border wood piece was omitted on one of the sections. | |Deck: The foreman (Angel) is very competent and easy to work with; kept me apprised of details and kept me in the loop on the decision making. Only negative is that I would have liked to be informed that some minor stucco repair was necessary (not in scope of job) before all the decking was applied. I did the repair myself but had limited access to damage area due to decking already in place. Deck looks very nice. |RE: "Use this provider in future": Unsure.

Description of Work: Complete fence repair. They were the best priced company and had everything completed in a day!

Description of Work: They tore down our old rotted fence and built a new redwood fence.

Description of Work: They took 1.5 weeks to respond to my Anglie's List email, then said they couldn't come out for an estimate until 2 weeks after that. Lame.

Description of Work: Built 175 ft of 7ft high redwood fence. Removed old fence. Price included all materials, labor, and removal of old fence. Installers were punctual, and built a very high quality fence. Would definitely use them again!

Description of Work: 6ft high 30 feet extra long posts, no knothole redwood fence and gate atop retaining wall plus oil sealant. On time, one day, very straight and tight seams. They know what they are doing and I highly recommend them, as this fence will last the guaranteed 15 years and then some.

Description of Work: On the morning of scheduled work, I left the gate open with a note inside (clipped to the original estimate) informing the crew that I'd be working just a few blocks away and I'd check in at lunch time. Well, I got busy and never made it back over to the house. When I came home, the job was done as expected, and an invoice was taped to the front door (for the exact amount on the estimate). I was impressed not only with the work, but also by their good faith in doing the job without my being there and without any deposit!

Description of Work: The crew showed up at 9:00 a.m. and were done by 3:00. The fence is beautiful and looks very substantial as well as professional. I intend using them again for a larger project.

Description of Work: Received bids from Borg and C & J. Both estimators were professional and polite/friendly. My fence project does not fit their typical, production model fence job, and therefore, we did not have a fit for using either's services.
