Dan and his team did a great job. He was always very responsive, professional and flexible. His subs were also very professional and courteous as they had to work around our one year-old's nap schedule and always left the job site clean. The quality of the work is very good, and Dan was always very quick to get someone out to fix any punch-list items.
Description of Work: General remodel including bathroom, room conversion, new flooring throughout the house, all new interior doors and miscellaneous plumbing and electrical work.

We purchased our fixer-upper house and were on a tight time-line (approx 6 weeks) to move-in given our rental situation. Another contractor who we had lined up fell through at the last minute (this contractor did not want to pull permits for us). After getting several last second bids, we were VERY HAPPY to find Dan, who worked with our budget, had no problem pulling permits, and was confident he could finish our project within our time-line. Pros: - to save money, we wanted to do some of the remodel ourselves. This included knocking down a wall and prepping and painting most of the interior of the house ourselves. Dan understood our cost-saving measures and worked with us to accomplish our projects by giving us tips and advice on how to do some of our DIY projects. We appreciated this. - I would consider Dan trustworthy and a straight talker. It never felt like he was trying to take advantage of us -- in terms of squeezing us for more money or trying to get us to do thing done that didn't need to be done. He is HONEST. - He finished our project roughly on-time (in approximately 7 weeks). This was great, especially given our last minute search for a contractor. - Dan has a very laid back personality and doesn't get too excited about things. He ultimately wants to problem solve when unexpected things arise and is generally great at doing so. - Dan's responsiveness to email and phone calls is pretty darn good-- i.e. Dan is always available. It is my opinion, though, that Dan (as with most people), is a LOT better over the phone and in person than over email. - Dan pulled permits and dealt with the city inspector, no problem. Cons: - Dan was able to finish our project on-time because he has several subs he has lined up to do different projects (as opposed to just one crew he relies on). Unfortunately, the tile subcontractor was a bit of a negative personality and the interactions with him were frustrating. The tile person didn't like our choices for grout and complained about the glass tile we had chosen. Ultimately, the tile sub appears to have done pretty great work and we are happy with the end product. We just wish Dan could have thwarted some of the initial interactions with the sub (which were aggravating). Ultimately, though, Dan acknowledged our frustration with the sub and made sure we got what we wanted. This interaction with the tile guy is the only reason why I gave Dan's professionalism a "B". In all other ways, Dan was very professional. Bottom Line: We are very happy with the work Dan did at our house and would hire him and/or his subs (with the exception of the tile guy) for future work. We will recommend him to our friends and family.
Description of Work: Gutted and remodeled one bathroom; built/remodel of master shower stall of another bathroom; patched ceiling and wall areas where wall was taken down separating kitchen and dining room; replaced drywall/sheet rock which had water damage and possible mold; textured ceilings which had already had popcorn/acoustic material removed; painted three bedrooms; installed recessed lights throughout house; installed kitchen sink faucet and garbage disposal; and did some minor carpentry work on the fireplace and wall where a kitchen wall was removed.

Getting a constractor to do some work in San Francisco is nearly impossible due to the mass construction going up everywhere. I knew I needed to contact someone outside the city. Morgan Construction was very responsive from the start, and affordable. Dan, was very patience and helpful. I was clueless, and in way over my head. He gave great advices, and great recommendations. Dan and his team were be able to get my salon construction completed, up and running fast even during holiday seasons. They definitely went above and beyond at every task they were given. I highly, highly recommend Morgan Construction. Two thumbs up.
Description of Work: I needed Dan and his team to put in some plumbing for the shampoo bowls, sink, washer/dryer. Adding more electrical circuits, some floor finishing, and build a open stud wall. And other handy stuff for lighting, and windows.

Daniel was SUPER responsive and communicative. When I received the estimate, it was much higher than I thought it would be. I thought that perhaps he had designed a very high end product and asked that he review his numbers. He went back and tried to lower the estimate, but found that due to the fact that it was handmade could not. He asked that I provide him feedback from other contractors' prices. I did not feel comfortable with the other contractors I called. I ended up going with Daniel because he was attentive, easy to work with, cared about the project and my experience with it. I was very happy that I did. The only potentially minor hickup was a $200 or $300 charge for a custom color. Because I didn't realize I had chosen a special product and was at the top of my budget, Daniel paid for the add-on. Daniel and Allen met all of their deadlines and I couldn't be happier with the product and experience.
Description of Work: I decided I wanted glass railings for my townhome for staircase, landings, dining room and kitchen (step-down). Because this is not available commercially, it was difficult to find someone who was willing to perform the work. I called Daniel, who although had not manufactured or installed glass railings, asked that I send him pictures of what I wanted and what was in place. He came by and to take a look and talk to me about what I envisioned. He then figured out a design and with the help of his fabulous blacksmith custom made and installed my beautiful railings.

Dan and his crew are professional and great to work with. Dan has been on point since I first contacted him about the project. He was very clear about what was to be done which gave me the confidence that he would deliver. He was able to start the work immediately and brought in the right craftsmen to complete the project asap. Dan and Adam are problem solvers and they worked around a tricky situation to route the outside venting. Adam is also very energetic and a positive guy. Also great that they covered the area as needed and minimized and cleaned up the dust immediately. So we were able to use the kitchen and cook on the range while the project was ongoing. Very important to us since we do a lot of cooking and food prep; and Dan took this into consideration. Dan also pointed me to a great place to buy the hood and to another vendor to select some granite that we needed to cover a small area of newly exposed backsplash. City building inspection passed as expected, and we're very happy with the performance of the hood and ducting system. I'll be working with Morgan Construction on a much bigger project very soon and looking forward to the results.
Description of Work: Installed an over the range hood and the ducting system to vent to the outside.

Daniel was very responsive and professional. He kept us well informed throughout the process, and all the work he completed looks great! He wasn't the cheapest, but the premium is worth it to not have to worry about the quality of the work down to the small details. He took care of all required permits and inspections, and still completed the job for the quoted price even when complications arose with the material that was beneath the acoustic covering, which required much more effort to get the smooth finish on the ceiling. Thanks Daniel!
Description of Work: Sub-contracted with abatement company to remove acoustic ceiling with asbestos throughout our 1000 sq ft condo, refinished ceiling to make it smooth, installed recessed lighting, and multiple light fixtures, replaced bathroom fans, and replaced all electric outlets and switches.

The estimate was very close to what I was expecting based on previous projects. I was ready to hire Morgan Construction for the work. Things changed though when I contacted the owner of the building and was informed they had their own construction company and would finance the upgrades. I took the offer from the building owner. If another project comes up I will call Daniel again.

[member name removed], Thank you for taking my call today. I can confirm that you did leave me a voice message on June 25. However, in all fairness, I was traveling that day and have been away on a family vacation for the last two weeks. Upon my return, this morning (July 9), I did promptly call you back to discuss your project. It is unfortunate that you and I were unable to speak earlier, but I am glad that you found a contractor that can meet your obviously aggressive time frame. I would hope, in the future, you do not feel the need to urgently blast someone you have never spoken with. I hope that you reconsider your unfair review as this is not an accurate reflection of the way I engage with my clients. Best of luck in your project.

We hired Morgan Construction for three projects in our 50 year old home: a full bathroom remodel, an office update that included installation of a pocket door and exterior work to insulate, weatherproof and replace worn wood siding and shutters. Though the bid wasn?t the lowest, we felt it was the best because of the time Dan spent listening to what we wanted, measuring and documenting the work. A competitor who was Diamond certified and had a super service reward didn't do as thorough a job during the initial interview process. Dan and his team completed the three projects beautifully, on time/on budget. They minimized the disruption to our family, were tidy and just plain nice. His subcontractors - tile guy, mud guys, painter and carpenter all did excellent work and answered any and all questions. I also want to mention that they did a really good job taking the time and detail work for matching existing trims and finishes. We like the company so much, we?re hiring them to update our electrical and to remodel our kitchen.

It went very well. Dan Morgan was patient as we figured out what we wanted to have done. He worked with us to come up with a plan that met our budget and our needs. Dan and his crew were always punctual. The work was done over several weeks to accommodate our schedule. In other words, the work could have been completed in two weeks, but he accommodated us by doing parts of the work at different times over a 5 week period. This was very helpful to us. He kept in constant communication with us. All of the work was of high quality. We are extremely satisfied with his work. We would hire him again.
Description of Work: We have a very large shed (18' x 20') in our backyard that was in disrepair. The following work was done: replaced roof and gutter system; repaired siding with dry rot on one corner of building; weather proofed inside by caulking in some areas of siding; removed inoperable barn doors on one side and replaced by framing in and installing new siding to create wall where barn doors were before; installed 3 foot regular exterior door. Poured concrete walkway from patio to shed; painted exterior.

We renovated a historic house on a tight budget. We sourced the kitchen cabinets (IKEA), tile, fixtures, etc. Daniel, his crew, and subs did all the work. Given the age and history of house, we were expecting some challenges along the way, but all change orders were handled smoothly. Communication was very good on how the work was progressing on issues that came up. Attention to detail and quality of the work by Daniel and his subs was very good. Cost estimates were spot on. Time estimates were close. We didn't replace the fridge and stove, and they could have been better protected during the work. Luckily no real damage, but required a good cleaning afterward; otherwise would have been an "A" for Professionalism.

We first contacted him about leaks and water damage in May. At Daniel's suggestion during June and July we did some owner work to get ready for the project while staying in communication with Dan. When we were ready to seriously start our project in August we were met with his delays, promises, excuses, and missed appointments. By end of September September after doing nothing that he said he would do to get us a quote on, and doing nothing on getting info and a quote from a roofer, he finally left a message basically saying he didn't want the job. So after taking up the entire summer with delays and apologetic excuses, we are back in the rainy season with our leaks and water damage. No work was ever performed, and we didn't even manage to get a quote from him over the several months we wasted listening to his excuses. He has been very polite, but has done nothing he said and has left us in a very bad situation with the same problems we had in May. We are very disappointed in this contractor and hope this is not typical of other Angie's List references.
Description of Work: Viewed property and our repair problems on 2 occasions (late both times). Said he would, but never did even quote the job. Said he would get info/and or quote from a roofer; Never did. Several times we took time off work to meet with him and he was late or re-scheduled.

After emailing him and telephoning he explained that he had meant to send me an email in the morning but it got "stuck in his outbox" and he didn't notice until I emailed him asking where he was. There was no explanation about why he waited until the morning of the that same day to cancel (I also have a day job, which i need to take time away from in order to meet with him) or why he didn't telephone or take any action to verify that I knew he was not going to show up. It's very hard to imagine how I could be comfortable with a contractor who shows such a disregard for my time and my business.

Dan wasn't the low bid or the high bid, but I am always willing to pay a bit more for someone that you know is going to be easy to work with. Dan and his guys were very friendly, very professional, and extremely knowledgeable. I'm moderately handy, and Dan helped me to reduce some costs by adjusting the contract for me to do the demolition and gutter work myself. Some of the stucco and roofing work was done by subs, and Dan was there at least once, frequently more, per day to inspect the progress and ensure quality work. He was very forthcoming with recommendations along the way, and it's nice to know that I have found a friendly/knowledgeable GC in the area that I will definitely be sending more work.

The guy who came out was punctual, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. Their prices ended up being a little higher so they were our 2nd choice and we ended up going with someone else. After completing the project, I can say that their estimates were probably more realistic than the person we went with, who ended up going overbudget on numerous items. In conclusion, they didn't perform any work for me but they seem like they would've done a good job at a fair price. I'd definitely consider using them in the future.

We had contacted Dan in January to get a bid on removing two load bearing walls. Dan was great! He came out right away to give us a bid and gave us the name of a good, local engineer to draw up the plans. It took about a week to get the plans. Dan and his crew came out a few days later to start. The walls took about five days and each day I came home from work, I got to see the progress. I have seen a lot of construction when neighborhoods were built up around me when I grew up. Dan's crew did the best work I have ever seen! The framing construction was precise and exact and obviously well thought out. I got to talk with some of the people on Dan's crew and they were very knowledgeable and gave suggestions when I wanted some changes to the engineering plans. We had to have the engineer come out again to make some modifications I wanted. Dan was able to accommodate the delay in construction. Every day Dan's crew cleaned up and no trash was left behind. Originally, we only planned on having the walls removed, but we had Dan come back for the electrical panel. The price for replacing the panel, including the stucco work was about half of what I thought it would be. Dan returned all my calls, text messages and emails promptly. He actually emailed and texted me to keep me informed about the progress, which I really appreciated. I would definitely hire Dan and his crew to do more projects on my house. I can say from experience that it is very difficult to find a good contractor in this area. Five other contractors I called weren't interested in anything under $50,000 and one told me he doesn't consider anything under $250,000. That's great if you are remodeling the entire house, but I'm really glad I found Dan, who works on small projects with the same professionalism and enthusiasm as he does with large projects. It's nice that I found a great, professional contractor in the area. Now I don't have to worry about who I'm going to call when I have more work to be done on the house.
Description of Work: Remove one load bearing wall and replace with a very long beam in the ceiling Cut another load bearing wall down to a 36" high and extend the wall about 3 feet Put three electric outlets in the half wall Replace the main electrical panel Run three new circuits; 240v 40amp to the garage, two 110v circuits to sump pumps on either side of the house Install the main electrical panel ground (there wasn't one when we bought the house!)

We worked alongside Dan as the interior designers for a commercial tenant improvement in Cupertino. Good contractors are very hard to come by so we were very lucky to have found Morgan Construction. Dan was extremely professional, reliable and responsive in working with us and the client throughout the project. As designers, we know that every project will have "issues". It is the way that these issues were dealt with and resolved that really impressed us. The project was completed on time and the quality of work was great. The final space looks fantastic! Thank you Angie's list! My experience with Morgan Construction was beyond my expectations. Dan (the owner) and Adam were amazing in all aspects! Highly responsive, punctual and professional. I have had several experiences with contractors and cannot state enough positive things about my experience with Dan and Adam. Initially, I had a different contractor lined up and fortunately that fell through. The job required removing all the dry rot on our property which consisted of approx. ten exterior window trims, one door trim, a balcony, some siding and several circular decorative trims. I did a lot of research as rain was on it's way and decided to become a member of Angie's list. Best thing I did. I had read several reviews and contacted and interviewed many contractors. From the beginning of the proposal process, I was impressed with Dan's professionalism and the level of detail he went into in order to provide me with an accurate quote. He came back several times to measure and climb up to the second floor to evaluate the extent of the damage. None of the other contractors did that. One area of the house looked like trouble and Dan's honesty set the right expectations. We discussed how that would be the last place to work on and that a revised proposal may be necessary once they open it up and see the extent of the damage. Nothing was ever a surprise as Dan provided constant communication each step of the way. There was extensive dry rot everywhere and even some down to the studs. They worked diligently through out the project. The rain was not cooperating with us but Dan and Adam were always one step ahead. They only opened up what they could close that day and made sure everything was covered to avoid further damage. I have to say they were absolutely wonderful! Everything was cleaned up every day. After three weeks, the job was completed today. Everything was re-caulked and painted and my home looks wonderful. They cared for my home as if it was their own, no short cuts were taken. Thank you Dan, Adam and Moises for a wonderful job! It was a pleasure working with you and I look forward to future projects.
