Description of Work: San Diego Kitchen Pros refaced our kitchen cabinets, removed our back splash and replaced it, new sink and faucet, installed our new dishwasher, microwave and stove and soft close cabinets and drawers, and also had old tile removed and granite installed. We purchased the hardware and they installed that as well, and installed 9 roll out shelves. We had already done our window, lighting and floor previously with other vendors or ourselves. San Diego, Kitchen pros were always on time, the estimate was correct according to the original plan after we picked out our granite and other materials. They did a wonderful job and the group worked very well together. They do use different contractors for the back splash and granite. But all were very professional and worked well with their team and were also on time. The cost does vary depending on which materials you choose of course. But you know that up front. The only issue I had was that at the end, I don't know if this is usual, but I had to go around and check to see if there were any problems or things not done and I had a list of small but important things that they did fix before making the final payment. I think it would be better if the main person did a final check before the customer does so that there aren't so many things left. It would look better for them. But the kitchen looks fantastic! I love it. The price was reasonable for the amount or work done compared to other contractors.

Description of Work: We had the Kitchen Center come in to quote updating our kitchen and baths by refacing the cabinets and replacing the counters. We have a very tiny kitchen and the rep was able to come up with some creative ways we could make some adjustments to optimize our counter space and give it a larger feel. However the pricing seemed high. The kitchen quote alone was about $3K higher than anticipated and did not include sinks, fixtures or plumbing hookups. We are still in the bidding process and will keep them in mind before making a final decision.

.Most mornings they arrived early and were always courteous and friendly. They worked as quietly as possible They tore down the 40 year old cabinets and brought in a dumpster to load the debris. The finish on the new cabinets, the counter tops, and the floor all as ordered. The one regret I have is not sitting down with the designer to find out exactly what things I would be losing or gaining by some of the changes being made. One thing I didnot expect was a change of style on the cabinet storing dishes. The old was double width, doors opening from center. All everyday dishes were on the bottom shelf, china on the 2nd shelf, and seldom used crystal on top. The replacement was two single cabinets not nearly as convenient. When done and replacing electric range they put the hookup inside a lower cabinet and were going to drill a hole through the other side to bring the cord through. I stopped that as I knew it was not to code and it deprived me of the use of the cabinet. No one ever contacted me about the failure to connect the stove and I wound up paying an electrician to do it right. When it came to the flooring, there were areas where the original tiles were left on, giving an uneven surface. I had them return to fill in with grout the space between the floor tiles and the cabinets in the range area. There are still two holes from the old cabinet bolts showing below the new dish cabinets.
Description of Work: New kitchen cabinets, alteration of bar between kitchen and dining room adding cabinets and drawers on dining room side, new pantry, lower corner cabinet converted to lazy susan style, dishwasher moved over to allow a narrow cabinet for trays, cookie sheets, etc.. New counter tops(onyx), stone flooring kitchen and dining area.

Response from SAN DIEGO KITCHEN PRO'S
in 2007, my husband and I began the task of choosing a company to remodel our 30+year old kitchen. We interviewed several companies &The Kitchen Center, Inc. was clearly our preferred choice. During the estimate process the KC representative listened to our needs & expectations & offered ideas that would help us accomplish what we wanted and worked to keep the price within our budget. We decided to reface some cabinets, remove our hanging cabinets, build new cabinets and put in new counter tops. Our next step was a visit to the showroom to make our choices. The entire staff was very helpful and all went smoothly. We discovered later that the person helping us narrow down our options was also the owner. We left happy with our choices & looked forward to the end product. During the install, etc. everyone we encountered was friendly, courteous and professional. A few times we asked about making some minor changes & the KC employee at the time always tried to accommodate us. Whe the job was completed everything was cleaned up and they left us with a kitchen we (and our neighbors who stopped by) loved! Approximately one year later we decided to downsize. We sold our home at a very good price (the kitchen and the back yard sold it). We moved to San Marcos and needed the kitchen redone. Our experience with The Kitchen Center was great so we didn't go through the lengthy process of getting multiple bids and just called The Kitcen Center. Again, the entire process went smoothly. Our one hitch was with the color of the cabinets. The color we decided on in the showroom looked much different in our home but the finisher was patient and worked with us until we got the look we wanted. Again, we were very happy with the price, the workmanship and the customer service. Mark, the orner of The Kitchen Center helped work up our estime, etc. and during the process he mentioned he was looking for someone to work part time in the office/showroom. I was looking for a part time job. It seemed like a good fit so, I accepted the job. That was in 2007. I am still employed here and can personaly testify that strong customer service and detailed craftsmanship is key in The Kitchen Center's approach to a succesful business. The Kitchen Center, Inc. has been in business for almost 23 years and most of the employees have been with the company from the beginning or not long after. This ensures a great deal of experience and knowledge available on all jobs. A large percentage of KC's new work comes from referrals and rejpeat customers. I think this says a lot about The Kitchen Center's craftsmanship and customer service. References are always available upon request. I have, personnally referred others to The Kitchen Center with the faith and knowledge that they will be treated fairly and with respect and will be taken care of through, not only finishing the job, but also after, should there be anything unusual that comes up.

I hope you like to read. There was so many problems with this company that I wrote a book! The overall cabinets look good on the outside but there was just simply too many problems and sloppy work. The interior of the drawers and rollers had stain and poly overspray on them to the point where some rollers don't even function properly. They also did not mask well and got stain on the painted walls and floor, etc. Not Good. To make matters worse, the company was completely non responsive. At the end I tried speaking with the sales person, who was our point of contact, about the problems. He did not want to get involved. He told me that I should call the owner. I called. No return call. I wrote a letter. Never a reply. This company appears to not care at all about their customers. If they would have been responsive, then I probably would have felt much better about them. Exerts from my letter are below. Poor Area Prep: The person doing the woodwork did not seal off the area with plastic like we were lead to believe would occur. The plastic he did put up had so many rips and tears and large holes that the sawdust basically ended up everywhere in the house. Poor Communication: One of the most irritating problems I had was that there was no communication with us once we signed the paperwork as to what phases would be done and the schedule other than a start date. Other than that there was no coordination what so ever. No Supervision: I was disappointed that there was no supervision of the project. The only people that I observed were the employees that did the work. At no time did a supervisor come to the house. Luckily I had scheduled to work from my home to monitor the project. A customer should not have to do this but I am happy that I did. The project could have been a catastrophe if not. I had to intervene at least a couple of times a day to stop them from doing things or to note problems in their work. This avoided the placement of a polyurathane drying rack in my family room with little carpet protection and all the fumes in my home and around my pet birds, etc. Poor Order Implementation: I spoke with the sales person after I discovered the door styles delivered were the wrong ones. They recomended that they trim off the grab sides. This would have changed the size of the doors etc and was unacceptable. I was never happy with the doors but decided to keep them since my wife was not too disappointed. Also we received a small $200 credit. Additionally we were told that there would be a three yard bin delivered to our home for the removal of material. This never showed up and the guys just filled up my trashcans and yard with trash bags of the waste. I am sure that this saved your company a couple hundred. It took us several weeks to get rid of all the excess trash in the yard. No Standards Followed: There was a complete lack of following a standard. Originally we were presented with sample doors and finishes. We choose a finish as a place card with the expectation that someone would follow up with us on the final finish to choose. No one bothered to follow up. After the job started I had to request the sample doors for the colors we picked so that we could review and have a standard to go from. If I had not done this, the people would have done the staining without any idea on what our expectation was. Very poor process. The people showed up to stain with no idea on what the color and shade should be other than its name and began staining the doors. I presented the sample doors to the lead and explained that was the color and shade we wanted. He indicated that it would not be a problem. After the Master bath area was stained I noted the color was far too dark vs. the sample. I notified the lead and he used paint thinner to remove some of the stain. They still came out too dark as compared to the sample but not nearly as dark as they were. The stain of the kitchen also turned out too dark. It appeared too dark after the initial stain application. I was informed that it would appear different after the polyurethane. It ended up too dark and disappointing. This is even after providing the sample door to the lead. I brought it to the leads attention and he basically had nothing to say other than the sample door was old and the stain had faded. I asked him if he could have made it lighter and he said yes, that he could have thinned the stain. Overall it was disappointing. He had a standard to go with, never really used it and stained it the color he choose. Poor Masking and Prep Work: I noticed that there was what appeared to be an apprentice helping a more experienced lead. The apprentice did most of the masking. Several times I pointed out areas that looked like they needed more attention and they were fixed. In the end they ended up getting stain and poly over spray onto our walls, floor, and existing drawer rollers which now do not roll very smoothly at all. In fact a couple of the rollers won?t even turn. Additionally they got stain on the painted interior of the drawers, etc. I have repainted many of them myself and plan to repaint the rooms with the overage on the walls, etc. Measurements and drilled holes: We had a sample of the hardware ordered to use as a template for the holes. Some holes were never drilled. Several of the holes were a quarter of an inch off so the handle would not fit and some were out of alignment down the drawers themselves. Luckily our hardware had a large base that masks the corrections I had to drill to get things to fit and line up properly. Poor Cleanup: After they were done with the job, they left the dry poly over spray all over my garage floor and driveway. I ended up sweeping it up since it was so slippery. Some trash, old parts, screws etc around the yard. Bottom line was that once they received the final payment from me they left and did not even try to clean up.
