Went painlessly.

The job began on time, and finished on time. Mr. Lucia or his crew let me know when they would be there for each morning, and that's when the crew and Mr. Lucia arrived. Mr. Lucia is a completely professional and thorough painting contractor. He appeared on the job to supervise his crew at least once a day (usually more). He saw to it that all cracks and separations were caulked or filled prior to painting. He was careful to keep in close communication so that there were no "surprises" and my life could "go on" during the paint job. The replacement of the single plywood siding panel and the split post in the patio were neat and professional. I note that the equipment used by Lucia's crews was up-to-date and in excellent working condition. The crews wore proper protective clothing and gear. Excellent care was given to protecting the windows, plantings, patio surfaces, etc. from unwanted droplets of paint by careful draping (sheets of plastic) and taping prior to painting. The result was the "cleanest" paint job I have ever seen; not a drop anywhere except where it was supposed to be! All the painter-debris was removed when the job was finished. This 40-year-old house looks like new, thanks to Lucia Painting. I am extremely pleased with this job and confidently recommend Lucia Painting to others (in fact I already have done that). Their work is superior - no runs, no drips, nothing sloppy anywhere! The next time I need ANY painting or similar work done, Lucia Painting will get a call from me.

Mr. Lucia and his wife, Noel, were very accommodating and professional. They kept me well informed as the job progressed. The painters were very efficient, covering and protecting the patio deck and surrounding house and plants, and removing and replacing items attached to the work area. They cleaned up well at the end, and Mr. Lucia himself came out for the final inspection and clean up. At this time, I am awaiting another bid from Mr. Lucia regarding fire proofing the roof vents to my roof. I hired Lucia Painting for their professional approach and low bid for the job, and look forward to anticipated fire-proofing of my home.

After the 2007 fire in San Diego, I was shocked to find ashes all along the east side of my home where embers had blown up into my eaves. My eaves had over 60 vent holes that were covered with wide mesh that would never keep embers out. My house also had numerous unfilled cracks, knot holes and gaps between the boards where embers could get in and set my house on fire. I have known two families in San Diego who lost their homes to wildfires. So when it came time to repaint my home, I wanted to find a contractor who would do a proper job caulking my eaves, install fire resistant air vents, and use fire resistant paint. I found Lucia Painting through Google and called them to discuss their fire preventive paint services. My experience with David was excellent from the start. This is the third time I have hired a contractor to do complete exterior home painting, so I am familiar with what constitutes a proper paint job. When David came to survey the job, we had a thorough discussion about the areas of my house requiring special attention, such as peeling and cracked paint. He was easy to communicate with because he is very knowledgable about paint and clearly has very high standards for the work that he does. I also had a salesman from a nationally-known painting company come to give me a bid. When I went into detail about the work, quality of paint and the details of the contract such as the method for painting the stucco, he looked visibly surprised. He sighed when I talked about caulking the eaves. His company refused to do a minor repair to a piece of wood around my garage door, and if they found any other minor repair to be done, the job would be halted until I found a carpenter to fix it separately. Nor could they install the vents. I hired David not only because of his fire prevention services, knowledge of painting, and excellent references, but because his bid for the painting work (not including the paint additive and vents) was equal to the national company's, even though David's was much more detailed and even though the company's was supposed to include a warehouse club discount. My house looks wonderful because of the thorough prep job they did. My garage doors look brand new because they sanded the cracked paint down to the metal. They did such a super job scraping and priming the wood that you can't tell where the peeling paint was. They paid attention to the small details that make the difference between a paint job and excellent paint work: I replaced my door bell after they finished and didn't have to touch up around it because they properly painted underneath it instead of just around it. I did not have to watch the painters every minute to make sure that they didn't skip the prep work, and when I did have a question, I was always answered respectfully. They were also clean painters. They did not leave paint spots on my driveway the way my last interior painter did, or all the way down the street, as my neighbor's painter did. They used a two-man crew to paint the stucco, one who sprayed and another who went over the surface again with a roller to insure coverage. If you only spray stucco, the paint does not evenly coat the surface, leading to premature peeling and cracking. Every time I go in my front door, I am happy to have such a great looking house. And I feel much better knowing the next time a wildfire hits San Diego, my house will be less vulnerable.

Lucia Painting and Fire Prevention did an A+ Job! I contacted Lucia Painting and Fire Prevention to install Brandguard fire resistant vents. David Lucia came to our house to meet with me and promptly emailed an estimate. He ordered the vents from the company and then primed and painted the vents to match our house. Installation went smoothly and on time. I was very impressed with David and I highly recommend the company. I wish that I had used Lucia Painting a year ago when we had the exterior of our house painted by someone else. David noticed areas that our other painter had missed and he took the time to touch those up for us at no additional cost.
