Description of Work: I needed a new exterior door lockset installed and the old one removed. However, the door involved is an unusual size and design, and not only did the lockset I had measured and purchased wind up not working (the door jamb was also a problem) but no others did either--even though Harry Melkonian of Locksmith Central spent quite a bit of time trying to find a reliable work-around. In the end, I bought and he installed an additional sturdy deadbolt to back up the aging original lockset. Harry was a pleasure to work with--smart, neat, efficient--and the charge reflects the amount of time involved. Ultimately, I may need a custom lockset; for now, the added deadbolt is a solid temporary solution. Once I find a permanent one, I'll call Harry to install it.

Description of Work: Henry made a recommendation to fix a mailbox lock that stopped receiving the key properly. He told me to try WD40 since the cold weather sometimes makes the lock freeze up. It worked and therefore saved at least $50 for the new lock. There is an honest man for you.

Description of Work: Harry quoted me a price over the phone and scheduled an appointment that was convenient for me. I had just moved into my new home and needed all the locks re-keyed. He was very professional, called me when he was on his way and showed up right on time.

Description of Work: This morning I called the owner, Harry Melkonium, about a seldom-used front door lock that didn't work well for a pet sitter while I was gone, nor for me when I first returned. Harry told me he'd be glad to make a service call, but that in many cases some lubrication was all that was needed, and he recommended a particular type, "Triflow," adding that if that didn't solve the problem to call him back. Description of Work: Harry re-keyed a number of locks (I think it was about five) on a house we recently purchased...providing us with four keys for each one. He also replaced one entire lockset with a new one we had purchased at Lowe's. Also offered some solid advice for an additional problem we had but which couldn't be resolved at the time (previous owners did not provide keys to mailbox).

Description of Work: Harry did an excellent job! Drilling and installing a new deadbolt in our front door. He changed out the locks and keys on two other locks. As well as showing us how to improve the security of our back sliding door also. Even though it was Saturday - our total bill was $105.00, he discounted it because there were no problems. Description of Work: Thought I submitted a report last year, but as I don't see it posted, will redo since Harry Melkonian deserves a top rating. Cost stated is to my best recollection, as I now can't find invoice. Anyway, my purse was snatched with my house and car keys, including the remote key-less entry device. Called several Smiths in Yellow Pages to get an estimate on re-keying 10 locks (all to be same key), making about 5 new keys plus, a duplicate car key. Many either didn't return my calls in a timely fashion or quoted outrageous amounts for trip charges (even though I wasn't requiring emergency service on a night or weekend and was relatively local to them) --- plus high labor fees for re-keying each lock and for making duplicate keys --- Or they sounded like con artists who wouldn't quote in advance until "they saw how difficult the job was" --- This is a crock as I had said all locks where Schlege and described how many deadbolt and how many doorknob button ones. You have to be very careful who you have come to your home, especially if you are a single woman --- both for security and not to get ripped off! Harry was a refreshing change -- so courteous and well-spoken. He gave me a quote per lock that was low mid-range in comparison to other quotes I had gotten. His trip fee was also very reasonable compared to all the others. When I asked him about making a duplicate car key and said I was in shock because the local Nissan dealer wanted $350 plus for a replacement Maxima remote device, key (black handle one) and service charge to re-program --- He was so kind and gave me free advice that I did not have to pay that huge amount. He took time to look-up web address and refer me to an online vendor who sold a genuine 3 button one (not a generic 2 button) for under $70, including express shipping with do-it-yourself programming instructions. He saved me $100s! When Harry came to my house to do the actual work, he was immaculate --- so well groomed and such a gentleman with such nice manners. He was fast, knowledgeable, neat and careful not to let bugs in or cat out while he worked. He had state of the art equipment and made finely honed, perfectly fitting keys that went in and out like butter --- a perfectionist who obviously takes pride in his craft.
