This was a great moving experience as a first time customer. I worked with Ted Tindall over the phone to review the basics, then scheduled a pre-move visit at my home with Ron Cohen who gave us a reasonable "no greater than..." price for a 3 man team, based on our requirements. This initial visit was done early in the morning to accommodate my schedule, which was appreciated. Ron acknowledged all my concerns and expectations professionally and was very friendly. The movers were very courteous and dedicated guys. I'd considered a 2 person team at a lower rate from a competitor but having paid a little extra for a professional team of 3 was very much worth it in terms of saved time, care and proper handling of my items. The 3 guys worked great together, were very efficient and each spotted the other one at all times to make sure the job got done right. One aspect I appreciated was seeing them apply discerning care based on the nature of the item. Fragile items were protected thoroughly while items such as pillows were stored in boxes and moved to the truck. This saved us a great deal of time and money by not having to wrap every little thing in tape and bubble wrap, like some moving companies do to boost the final price. These guys clearly only used what was needed to handle the item correctly. The unloading of the items at our new place was done with the same level of care as the packing. Considering the weight of some of the items and the 3 floors they had to deal with at both locations, these guys offered nothing but professionalism the whole time. I'm very pleased with this company and I wish other movers had as much interest in building long-term clients as these guys clearly do.

I moved to Texas two months ago but had to leave behind most of my belongings in a storage locker. Once I was relocated and in my new place, I needed to figure out how to move my stuff without spending an arm and a leg or losing a lot of valuable time. Based on the reviews, I chose NorthStar. NorthStar's representative walked me through the entire process over the phone, emailed me the appropriate forms and in all cases, told me what to expect. The movers themselves arrived exactly when they said they would. They met my "Shipping representative" who oversaw the loading of the truck and inventory list in my stead. The movers arrived at 9:30 AM and left around 2:45 PM. At first I couldn't believe it took so long but that was how much care they took in packing my stuff. I had to pay for needed materials and labor but I expected that. First, our belongings were sharing a truck with others stuff. Second, when we packed our storage locker, we didn't think that we could have strangers packing up our stuff! We thought we'd be moving our stuff ourselves. We ended up having to pay an extra $700 but that was all itemized and listed on the receipt. Still, if I had the choice, I would've made sure that I packed everything so I didn't have pay extra. Two days later I was informed that my belongings were on their way and that they would arrive between Sunday and Tuesday. By Monday afternoon I was concerned when I hadn't heard from anyone but my call to NorthStar was immediately returned by the mover/truck driver who gave me a more specific date/time of arrival. He really put me at ease. There was some confusion regarding payment. I sent them a credit card copy to charge for the entire purchase but the deliverer told me he'd need the actual credit card (which I didn't have). After trading a few phone calls and faxes with the "front office", it was all taken care of in less than an hour. Again, I had a "delivery representative" (My boyfriend) who took delivery on Tuesday at 2:30 PM. The driver arrived when they said they would with two helpers and unloaded the truck in less than two hours. Because of their quickness, my boyfriend couldn't keep up with checking off the inventory list, but who could blame them? We were the last drop on their route. I doubt very much I'll find anything missing. All I know is that when I get home from work today all my belongings will be safely inside. I agree with my boyfriend; it was the best $2800 we've ever spent (next to a trip to Hawaii, of course!).

The best experience I've had with movers and I will only use them. When I first booked them, they gave me a window between 12 and 6 pm, but told me they would call an hour or so before. I got a call the day before confirming the appt. for next day and went over the details (address, supplies, etc). The day of, they called an hour in advance, they showed up on time, and an hour into the move, a representative from the office showed up with a bag of treats and wanted to make sure everything is going well. I thought it was a nice touch. The whole move went without a hitch, the guys were professional, nice, and worked quickly. We moved from Van Nuys to Woodland Hills, and all was loaded and unloaded and done in about 3 hours. They do round up, so we paid for 4 hours. The amount we spent includes a coupon of $50 for $100 towards move on Yelp.

Overall it was a great experience. Everything went smoothly because of the great guys doing the move. As I was picking what was going on which truck, and then would change my mind, and have it go to the other truck, everything was done with a smile. When everything was unloaded, the guys went beyond the call to help unwrap some of the furniture and remove the some of the packaging materials. As far as the in house customer service, they are awesome, professional and highly organized. I liked the email confirmations and then also the follow up reminder phone calls. I had to change the move date several times, and NorthStar worked with me everytime. Thank you to everyone at NorthStar!!!
Description of Work: I did a second move with NorthStar movers and was just as pleased with this move as the first move. This move was a bit easier because everything was packed and ready to go. The move was within Simi Valley, from an apartment to a house. NorthStar was the only local mover willing to give a guaranteed price.
Description of Work: NorthStar Moving Corporation sent three men who were polite, hard-working, kind and accommodating. They took a shorter amount of time than the estimate! The move out was difficult, down one-flight, narrow entrance with heavy furniture. Everything arrived safe and sound. Ron Cohen, (818.689.1930) initially had sent a detailed estimate via email after accessing the move onsite. A fantastic experience! Highly recommended!

Very good overall. Unfortunately we had our consignment's shipment date brought forward by about a month which meant a change in our travel plans to enable us to be in N.Z. to accept the consignment. However, we would certainly recommend NorthStar both for their service and pricing to anyone else needing such international services. They liaised with the N.Z. authorities in advance so there weren't any nasty surprises when the consignment arrived and was unpacked by the local agents which again went very smoothly Thank you NorthStar!
Description of Work: 1) Estimate given for door to door services to ship a 40' long container of household goods from Fawnskin Ca to Tauranga, New Zealand - all in price: $13,200 ($500.00) deposit balance ($12,700) on completion of packing.- Estimate included all labor, packing materials and transport. No additional charges were made except additional insurance which is optional and charges on arrival for N.Z. bio-security (not part of NorthStar's charges) 2) Documentation supplied for completion by us to ship the consignment including comprehensive instructions regarding how to prepare for the packing and also the necessity to identify N.Z. bio-security items, e.g. bamboo etc. for inspection, and taxable items... 3) The packing took 2 days with 4 packers working solidly 6-7 hours each day wrapping furniture in protective plastic, all china etc... in masses of packing paper, sealing boxes... The container arrived early on day 2 and eventually was filled. 4) The lead packer worked with his team as instructed, and isolated the bio-security and taxable items physically and on the lists which were made as the items were packed and labelled. 5) The consignment arrived in N.Z. on schedule with no items broken or damaged. 6) We considered the amount paid very reasonable having spoken to other people that had shipped consignments.

Their work packing, picking up, and delivering our belongings was impeccable. The price was fair if a bit on the high side, but then again, we weren't looking for the least expensive movers. They were very accommodating in terms of providing us with a month of storage so we wouldn't have to unpack during the holiday season. The only minor quibbles were as follows: They had to reschedule a pick-up twice. I understand that all movers typically quote a window of time for pick-up, but we actually had a committed date and time that had to be adjusted. They didn't provide us with a net weight for the items they picked up. Since the price of a move is largely dependent on the weight of the items, it would have been nice to see some proof of the actual weight rather than merely a final bill. I am willing to take some of the blame on this one because I did not insist on a weight ticket which I am sure they would have gladly provided me had they been asked. Again, these complaints should be taken as fairly minor. The bottom line is that all our stuff was moved without incident or damage and in a timely fashion. I have to also add that I received a follow-up call from NorthStar asking if I had any concerns about the move. It is rare to see a company take such pride in their work and to show such a level of concern for their customers.

Overall, NorthStar Moving was great and I was very happy with the experience, how hard the guys worked, and the ultimate cost of the move. Packing and moving sucks, and is stressful - these guys were super solid, good folks and I would highly recommend them to anyone else in LA doing a local move.
Description of Work: I found these movers on Angie's List - and based off the reviews, got an estimate. They were reasonably priced, though not bargain basement. Still, a good deal. We moved from a condo with 2 bedrooms to a house a few miles away. We had a lot of timing issues due to trying to finish floors at our new place before moving in. So, I rescheduled 3 times. Diana and her team were awesome. They made it work. The fellas they had out were excellent - 2 spoke English and they were hyper careful with our stuff. We packed a lot beforehand and I definitely recommend that - as their pricing for boxes is expensive. They provide wardrobe boxes as long as they get them back. But my wife and I packed most things and the team did provide us with a few extra boxes for the things we didn't finish packing - but at that point it was worth it. Anyways, the guys worked hard and were ultra careful moving in. The floor guys were actually in the process of finishing up so they moved stuff to the garage and from the garage to our rooms when the floor guys finished. Point being - they took direction and were awesome all around. Spent 6 hours doing the move and only took a short lunch break - really worked their butts off.

These people were awesome!!! While trying to move our son to Colorado I had a terrible experience with another mover who cancelled on me at quitting time the night before the move. I gave up on trying on my own after seeing all the horrible customer reviews about every mover I checked. I checked Angie's List and called North Star. Still not totally confident i also checked the non member reviews of this company and googled them, I was amazed at the reviews I called them that morning and they were able to get us going with in two days! Steffy at the office was great and our driver Ethan was really patient when we needed to postpone delivery due to car issues on our side. We ended up getting everything about ten days later. Through out this time Sam the main long distance manager was available to me at all times. He was great about returning my calls and reassured me the truck would be there the day before our son was getting on a plane to come back for Christmas. Even with a snowstorm everything worked out. Thank you Sam and thank you North Star moving!!

Great team of 3 movers. They were on time, quick and packed up furniture well with blankets, plastic , etc. They stopped at our storage unit to drop off a table and chairs and then moved on to the new residence. They were courteous, polite and patient with my Mom and her questions. They completed the move in 5 hours with 10 miles distance from old to new residence. They had to deal with long hallways and moving using elevators. I would use them again. They confirmed their arrival time the day before and arrived on time, even though it was one of windiest days Los Angeles had seen in 30 years. We also liked that they confirmed the move via email with a written estimate in advance, clearly stating their billing process.

Moving is always painful, at least that is how I see it. The crew provided to do my move were exceptional. Polite, great communication, careful, diligent and calming (I think they have been trained to even laugh at the client's bad jokes). I was not fully packed and the three men packed and moved at lightning speed. From booking the move to the actual move, it was a smooth and easy process. With hundreds of item being packed and moved, there were only 2 items that sustained some damage. I did pack all of my china, dishes and glassware and moved it myself. If I had known how awesome the men representing NorthAmerica were, I would let them handle those items without any worries.

I had a one bedroom (600 sq. ft) on the ground floor and was moving from Orange County to LA to a 2 bedroom (900 sq ft) on the ground floor.My appointment was between 8am - 10am and three movers showed up at 9AM (prompt). They finished packing about 12:15/12:30. When they were moving my refrigerator, I had asked them if they would be wrapping the refrigerator to protect it, they said they would.They arrived at my new place around 1:15 and informed me that they would take a 5 minute break which became a 30 minute break (I am sure they charged me for the 30 minutes while they were on break.) I even bought them lunch. I wish I had not.When they were removing my refrigerator out of the truck, the refrigerator was not wrapped. This was a brand new refrigerator which I have had for less than two years and had no marks on it.When they had left, I was exhausted from the move. I even gave them a tip. On Sunday morning, I was throwing out some empty boxes in my front porch and notice that there was one large box that the movers left outside and it rained most of the morning so my personal items were completely ruined.A few days later as I was moving my boxes from my kitchen, I looked at my refrigerator and there are two noticeable scratches on the black frame of the water/ice dispenser. AWESOME! So due to the scratches on my refrigerator, the box that was left outside my house, the 30 minute break that was included in my bill, I will NEVER use NorthStar Moving again.

The move went very well. They were very inexpensive and they showed up within the window they said they would show up. They moved everything in really quick. The window time that they gave us to show up was really broad and a lot of places give you a 3 hour window and these gave me a 6 hour window. They didn’t have anybody in the crew who spoke English. I set up everything on the phone and the least they could have done was asked me if I knew Spanish.

We called for an estimate and had someone come out to our house for an appraisal. They toured our house, garage and shed and set up an estimate in boxes with a final amount of $6400.00. It appeared that the estimate on the boxes was on the low side, but it was made up by the weight. We agreed to the amount and signed the contract right there for a move on a Sunday. The Sunday of the move we were still in packing mode and went into panic when the driver showed up early. That being said, he did not ring the doorbell, just waited in his truck outside our house until the crew came. The crew consisted of 5 hard workers. The foreman was upbeat, quick and extremely helpful. They disassembled furniture and shrink wrapped/blanket wrapped furniture that could not be disassembled. They assisted us with packing and packing material (wardrobe boxes included) in order to make it happen. They started at 7:30am and ended at 6:00pm with everything packed. The crew was very inspiring, quick, very careful with our possessions and cheerful throughout the event. We never saw eye-rolling or heard a complaint about us not being done with packing. Once we arrived in Texas, the crew was quite a bit different. They showed up on time, but we didn't see the smiles and the upbeat attitude we saw in the crew in California. We moved to a 2-story house and many times when we instructed a box to be carried upstairs, eyes were rolled. The items were not handled as carefully as they were in California, the crew was also not quite as organized. Since neither one of us spoke spanish, communication was an issue with anyone other than the foreman. All in all the price was great (couldn't find better for the same service), the crew in California was absolutely fantastic, the crew in Texas was only so-so. The important thing was that nothing was broken during the move and they showed up when they said they would on both ends. Even though our experience here in Texas was not as great as the one in California, we would hire them again in a heart beat. We moved on 6/27 and were supposed to receive our furniture between 7/1 and 7/5, but even while the truck was loaded in California the driver asked if he could deliver it on 6/30. It worked out perfectly for us.

Awesome! Stephy the lady on the phone was friendly, honest, had great follow-though skills, and was very up front about all their costs. While the home estimate was canceled, it made me super nervous as my last move with a canceled estimate cost me a great deal of cash (3 times more than the estimate on the phone). Northstar (Stephy) promised professionalism and they delivered. Northstar showed up 10 minutes early and the guys hustled. My move was completed in 5 hours. I had more stuff to move this time and Northstar moved me in half the time the other moving company did (see my other reviews). The movers were young, strong, great attitudes, friendly, and just all around awesome. Since it was lunch time and we were getting sandwiches, we bought them some as well. They didn't even take the time to eat, they threw the sandwiches in the truck for when they were finished working as they didn't want to charge me for their lunch. They helped me move an old appliance out of the house to get the new ones in. They went above and beyond my expectations. To top it all off, a week after the move I receive a thank-you card from Stephy for using Northstar welcoming me to my new home. What a nice touch. Hopefully I won't be moving again, but if I do, Northstar will be the only company I call. I will definitely be telling my friends about what a great experience I had.

They marked up the price minus the $99.00 deal. There hourly rate was $140.00 an hour and is extremely higher than any other moving company I spoke with, which is on average $70.00 an hour for two guys. They were not flexible, we told them we only needed 2 movers and they stated they were sending 3. We needed them for a move for a 2 bedroom apartment (600 sq. ft. apartment). They quoted $500 extra for the move + $99.00 for the Big Deal I purchased with them. I found another moving company that is doing the move for $325.00 for 5 hours (mileage, packaging, 2 movers, and truck included). Not saying that they wouldn't do a good job, it's just that the pricing is way to high relative to the market. It's a price issue with me. They were also inflexible and did not take my needs into account as the consumer.

I was sorry to hear that our prices did not meet your expectations. As you can understand our prices change depending on the time of year and availability. At high peak times certain hourly rates or two men crews might be limited or fully booked. Like most seasonal businesses (i.e. hotels, airlines, etc.) most moving company prices vary and have limitations. However, it is always our desire to help our clients find the best alternative and most of the time we are able to accommodate our clients.
