NorthStar Moving Company

Overall a good experience, packed and moved two apartments, did not damage anything and were courteous, friendly and punctual. Only odd hiccup was they got a parking ticket at one the apartments and said I would be responsible for it, but then offset it with other discounts, so no harm, no foul (I think that is a strange policy as I didn't tell them to park where I did, so I didn't really view that as a big favor). So I guess make sure they are not parked illegally because it could be your responsibility - other than that, good experience, would recommend,

Overall it was great, as far as last-minute scheduling went. I would definitely refer this company.

We had the pleasure of working with Ron Cohen. Ron was amazing. He responded almost immediately and came out for quote at a time that was convenient for us. For our quote he was both thorough and quick. He also helped us find days for packing and moving that would be most economical. Ron sent us our quote quickly. And he came through on all verbal things he committed to- felt like "the good old days" of doing business. His team was amazing. They packed up and moved 2500sq ft / 26 years of accumulation in less than two full work days. Everything was packed neatly and well-padded. They exceeded all expectations and were a pleasure to work with.

Prompt, courteous and careful in moving furniture even up the stairs. Spent 6 1/2 hours for the entire job and never took a break. Would hire them again.

The movers arrived on time and delivered the moved items within the expected time frame with no problems. Great people to work with.

They showed up promptly at 9am right on time and got to work straight away. They worked really fast and had our whole living room wrapped up and packed into the truck in about half an hour. They were pretty attentive and careful with how everything was wrapped and packed, but the only thing I saw that bothered me was when we were unpacking the truck and moving things into the new house, one of the movers tried stacking my nightstand on top of a huge stack of stuff on a dolly. He then tried rolling the dolly onto the sidewalk via the driveway (which was slightly raised) and the dresser fell right off and slammed into the ground, damaging the corner of it and breaking a piece off. The company was pretty compliant in helping me file a claim, but the insurance was so little and what I would get back would be worth a lot less than the trouble of doing all the paperwork, so I opted not to file my claim. The only other drawback was my newly coated hardwood floors suffered some scratches from furniture getting pushed around on the floor =(

3 man crew, came on time, worked hard, got the move done, total time 5.5 hours. Minimized the use of expensive non-reusable materials (plastic wrap, etc.). Was very kind to my pregnant wife and when they forgot to unpack a glass table top, came back very quickly. Overall made the day fun and I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again.

I'm very disappointed with the estimator. What they tell the customer vs what the estimator wants do not match. I did not like his attitude and he came off as a bully. He had a very nasty attitude. I was expecting to move tomorrow and arranged a flight for that day, and now I have to change my schedule because they gave me the wrong quote. He would not tell me how he settled on a quote and it doesn't look like he used the correct formula.

After extensive searching on Angie?s List we decided to have NorthStar move our furniture to the new house. The guys arrived at 8am on the dot as scheduled. Extra care was taken to wrap the furniture and the truck was loaded in about 2 hours. After the short drive to the new house they quickly unloaded, unwrapped, and placed the furniture where we wanted. With out asking they rolled out the red carpet to protect the newly refinished hardwood floor. All in all we have no trouble recommending Northstar and we will definitely use them next time we have to move. I forgot to present the Angie?s list coupon to the movers, but when I called the office they had the credit on my credit card in less than 1 hour. Great job NorthStar.

I have moved almost a dozen times over the past thirty years and my satisfaction with this move was among the best. The estimate was for a crew of 4 to work about 10 hours with a not-to-exceed price of a little under $2,000. It turned out one of the crew called in sick so only three people came to the job. They worked diligently and hard. They wrapped every piece of furniture prior to moving it and took good care of each item. Unfortunately I was moving out of an apartment and the distance to the truck was quite far so each round trip took between 10 and 15 minutes. So it took 11 hours just to pack and load. Now I was worried that the development where the townhouse I was moving into would not let me move in as it was getting late. No problem. Northstar arranged for another crew of five (they were just finishing up on another job) to come over and help unload and unpack. With eight people now, they did it in 90 minutes. It did not feel rushed and everything came out in good shape. Their labor cost went over by about $500 as a result, but they stuck to their estimate, even when I offered to cover the difference. I would recommend them to anyone I know.

Overall, the experience was very good. Would I use them again? Sure! So, why the "B" rating, and not an "A"? I give them an "A" for excellent customer service over the phone and really good workers. The 3 movers showed up on time, they were friendly and communicative, and got to work right away. It was steadily drizzling the entire morning of the move, and the guys got wet, but they were so cool about it, didn't even act like it bothered them. They worked hard and steadily, never did I feel like they were "dilly-dallying". The move went off with no major hitch. One of the guys did accidentally tip over a floor lamp which shattered the glass part, but I got compensated for it, and I know it was a complete accident due to tangled wires, so no biggie, that didn't bother me. The one and only reason I can't give an "A" is because, the guys failed to read the labels on the boxes - specifically, boxes labeled "fragile" or "very fragile". Granted, I had about 40 boxes, but a handful of those boxes were labeled fragile. I didn't know it when loading, but once we got to the destination and they were unloading, I noticed that some of the fragile boxes had really heavy boxes (like books) on top of it. And when unloading, they put down the boxes marked fragile, just as hard as any other box - which isn't to say they threw down the boxes. But they weren't put down as gently as they should have. When I asked the guys to be more gentle to those boxes, they were immediately apologetic and seemed to take more notice, but the damage was already done. I had 2 (very nice) serving platters that were broken when I opened them up. But this was days after the move and I havent bothered calling them to make a claim. I actually read about this problem in another review, so this might be something you want to remember to point out to them. Maybe mark your fragile boxes with bright pink tape so it stands out. So, overall, the move was very good, I would recommend them, and I would use them again. But next time, I will definitely remember to point out fragile boxes, and put a special marker on them. And while I don't mind doing that, having to do that makes for a "B" grade, not an "A".

We had a number of boxes packed and ready to be loaded. They crew made fast time of clearing out the room of boxes and then furniture. Having done a number of moves previously it's easy to compare this one with others and it scores well.

.Only issue that prevented me from hiring was policy re motorcycle.

It turned out well. They were responsive. The movers were very efficient and hard working. The timing was good and overall I was really impressed.

They service was good and professional.

Three guys showed up right as scheduled on a Saturday morning. They have a 3 hour minimum, and I think our whole job took them 3 hours 15 minutes. I don't remember how much the final bill was, but I'm most certain in was less than $500, and maybe even less than $400. I remember thinking "Wow! That's a great price!" They were very careful with our furniture and breakables, wrapped everything up securely. My husband was most worried about our new flat-screen TV, but that was one of the reasons I wanted professional movers for the big and valuable stuff! They loaded everything into their truck, and unloaded it into our new house. We moved into a manufactured home, and I think some of the interior doorways are a little narrower than where we were moving from. These guys moved like there weren't any doors at all. Great service!!

Generally, I was unimpressed by the service. I chose Northstar because they claimed they were the best at moving art work, even claiming noting that they were go to mover for the Getty Museum in L.A. Despite those claims, they outsourced the move to a local mover, who then outsourced labor even further on the back end across country. The movers were supposed to come first thing in the morning but didn't arrived until around 5PM in the afternoon. In addition, the accidentally forgot a rug and a couple other furniture items. In the end, I did get all my stuff, but overall this was a very disappointing experience. I will never use Northstar again for any move in the future. If you're doing a local move, look for a local mover, and if you're doing a cross country move, I would go with some other company

Northstar team was punctual and professional. The problem started when they underestimated the scope of the move and was made worse by wrapping and protecting the furniture with such attention to detail that the move ended up taking roughly through times as long as estimated and costing us three times as much also. I eventually had to tell them to cut corners and had to move some of the material on my own personal vehicle just to make sure we finished that day (and quite late). Nice guys, very protective of our new house and our belongings, just insanely over expensive and time consuming relative to the quote.

Went better than expected. No complaints whatsoever. Had heard horror stories about dishonest movers.Would recommend and use again.

Overall we are really happy with the move. The only issue that came up was after the initial assessment, we were told we by the assessor we would get a moving estimate via email the next day, but we did not receive anything until after I called the Northstar main office 5 days later. I called the Northstar main office and they had no records of any move estimate being recorded. They told me they would get in contact with our move assessor. Our move assessor called me later that day and apologized for not sending the estimate. For my troubles, I was given a better price quote than was originally quoted to me by the main office. I thought the service recovery was appropriate.

I have used this company twice. The first time they picked up household items in Chicago and moved them to Las Vegas. They picked up on time, delivered on time and there were no instances of damage. The second time I used them, they were a day late on pick up, a day late on delivery and we had 2 instances of damage. They did call to let us know of the late arrivals and they did make good on the damages so overall, I would say that they are a very, very good moving company

I chose Northstar on the strength of their on-line reputation on Angie's list and Yelp. Overall, we had an adequate move. The team of 5 arrived on time, worked consistently, and the cost for the move came out less than the estimate. Everyone on the crew was extremely polite. Here is why we are giving them a C: There were 5 people packing our belongings. Some of them provided "A" level packing (like the crew who did the kitchen). Others provided "F" level service. The crew manager did not appear to do much to improve the level of service of the team. For example, we repeatedly had to point out places where they missed packing things, and at one point that was two whole rooms. Some pieces of furniture were taped up with no plastic or blankets, so when we took the tape off, the glue stayed on the furniture. Light bulbs were crushed in tape inside of lights so we could not get the bulb out and had to junk the light. We are still assessing the damage. These are just a few examples of the myriad of odd packing we found. It seemed like they had some inexperienced crew members who were not adequately trained or supervised. Finally, I almost did not use Northstar because they were closed the week before the move, didn't tell me they would be closed one day during the week, and they had no messages indicating they were closed. This was not a problem in the end, but it was worrisome to just have the company shut down with no notice. Northstar has contacted me to discuss the damage. I will update the review once that process is complete.

I just moved my sister from Los Angeles to Albuquerque. Originally I had booked a moving company online that was not based in Los Angeles and there were a multitude of red flags that were making me nervous so I canceled with them and joined Angie's List specifically to find a moving company with whom I would have peace of mind..and that's exactly what I found with NorthStar. I talked to a couple of different people in their office at different times...they were always straight-forward and helpful. Everything they said would happen is what happened...no surprises. I got a call when they said I would from Ilan, who was to do the onsite estimate...he was right on time (a touch early, actually)...we had to communicate back and forth several times following that appointment because it was a complicated inventory and Ilan was having some computer problems...but despite those obstacles, he returned my calls promptly every time and we worked it out. I was very stressed out on the actual day of the move having been up almost around the clock for the previous 2 days trying to be ready for the moving crew and they stayed so calm and steady all day, their presence completely eliminated my anxiety. And I have to add that they treated every piece of furniture with equal care...even when it was obviously something that probably should have been left behind on the curb! Now I know this doesn't always happen but we were given a 10-day window for delivery and they made it on the first day...only 4 days after pick-up...I was so relieved that my sister did not have to be without her things for too long. Whether that was just luck or not, I will never research and compare movers again...i will just call NorthStar.
