The move out crew were so amazing I asked home office to assign same crew to deliver & set up in new home; they did and Miguel led the team in both old home & new. Everything was packed with extreme caution and nothing was damaged; everything was explained in great detail and they were courteous; always asking questions to be sure I was ok with a piece of the move; they also gave great advice at the new home if I didn't know where to put something!! A+++.
Description of Work: Moved my household 200 miles. Packed all fragile items in addition to moving of furniture. Everything was done beyond my expectations - the gentleman were extremely professional, and experienced. Team led by Miguel with: Ricardo, Bidal, Oscar & Julio.

After the initial phone conversation with Beatriz, it lasted about 30-45 mins, we scheduled for the estimator to come over. When the estimator came, Michael, he was great. He called ahead of time to say he was on his way and showed up in the pre arranged time frame. While he was surveying the kitchen he informed me that they do not move Liquids, Plants, or Propane. None of this information was given to me or mentioned at any point in the conversations. While looking on their website, I read some of the information that they provided, and nowhere did it state this information. I am very dissatisfied because I wasted both my time and the company's time. When these types of restrictions are placed on a residential move, they should be acknowledged and known before any further steps are taken. I am fully shocked that they can't move liquids (bath products, kitchen products etc). I feel mislead and misinformed by their representative.

We only move plants for local moves. Unfortunately, we’re not allowed to move plants across state lines or for intrastate moves due to government regulations. Also, plants need water and light; our trucks aren’t equipped to show them that kind of love." "Do you move alcohol cross-country? No, we do not move alcohol or any type of liquids across the country." We of course understand that not everyone has the time to read through an entire FAQ filled with many different questions, rules and regulations. Sadly, this was the second time I've had to move in less than two years. However, this was also the second time I've used Northstar Movers, and, once again, they were excellent. They arrived exactly at 8:00 for an 8-10 arrival. The entire move, door to door, loading and unloading, was completed in under two hours. The movers were professional, polite, and efficient. I have no doubt I'll be moving again in the future, and Northstar will be my first call.

They were extremely responsive and accommodating. We had done most of the packing, and I was able to get an estimator out quickly to give us a bid. The work was very professional and they provided solutions and best practices for packing up some of our more sensitive items. We designated different items for two different delivery locations and they were able to plan this out well, and make the process smooth and painless. We will definitely use them again in the future!

The estimator was thorough and professional; thus we picked this company. The price was fair and comparable to other vendors we surveyed. The morning of the move we were ready at 8am. At 9am wereceived a call saying they were a driver short and would be there in an hour. At 11:30 am six men arrived. Despite having more people than originally planned (due to their late start) the work which started off gang buster became slower and slower. In order to not have to pay double time rate for an extra hour of service we told the men to leave boxes in garage. We found that parts of furniture, shelves I to bookcases and loom table for example were also left in garage which has made unpacking very slow. Also despite the fact that the boxes were both labeled and had color coded wored labels were not stacked so that we could at least have all kitchen together etc. also a extremely heavy trunk which was marked Garage/storage was brought upstairs. The crew was pleasant and polite. Thus a mixed review gets a less than exemplary review.

This review is a lesson for anyone moving across the country with more than one stop. It's imperative that you identify your items for each stop. The easiest way is to use post it stickers tapped to each item, because if a non Northstar independent is used, your load will be comingled and little communication with LA can be expected. Also, you are at the liberty for time of delivery, as in my case was after 5:30 with nighttime only two hours away and you are asked to sign for the entire inventory. The driver Eli called me 10/11 and said "we'll be there 10/13 and I will call you to advise the time. He was not aware of a two stop delivery and called LA to confirm, then called back to confirm two stops. On the 13th I didn't receive a call so I called him at 1:15 pm to get an idea about their arrival time. Eli said "I call you between 3and4 and advise. He called at 5:00pm and said they would be here 5:30. I said in view of it getting dark by 7:30 and my need to see the inventory, which I needed to sign as received, I requested to have delivery the following day when I could see and count my inventory which I needed to sign for. Eli said "a redelivery would cost me $600 extra, I said I would discuss this with Northstar. Next thing I know Eli calls and says " we're up the block". So they forced the delivery because they were thinking about their home base Miami, 50 miles away. Everything in my shipment was co-mingled and apparently NO communication with LA about 1st stop 2nd stop items. Also, some of my furniture was partly uncovered, and because this item was going to storage, I never had a full opportunity to inspect it. We sorted through the entire shipment for item going to stop 1. A couple of items might be at stop 2 (storage) 10x10 room, like a printer stand and boxes of clothing ,two lamps for stop 1., At 7:30pm it was getting dark and the storage facility closing at 9:00, Eli said "we need to go to stop 2" even though things were not completed at stop 1.,mainly the bed assembly. At stop 2 the balance of my stuff was off loaded and placed in a 10x10 storage room with no opportunity to locate missing items. Remember, it was about 8:15 and getting darker. I felt like they were playing beat the clock, darkness, 9:00 closing and getting home to Miami area. This was why I wanted to put off the delivery until the following day. I have a right to inspect the shipment which I was asked to sign for.
Description of Work: Finish packed some furniture and moved my goods from San Francisco to Florida. I was told that all disassembled items would be reassembled in Florida. This was a two stop delivery ($100.00 extra) so only the brass bed needed to be reassembled. The Florida delivery team could NOT reassembly the bed and a critical part was lost in transit. So the following day my sister and I assembled the brass bed until we had to stop because of the missing part. UPDATE : Northstar read my review and responded immediately. A customer service representative contacted me to discuss my experience. After a few exchanges via phone and email, an amicable agreement was reached. The precautions mentioned in my original review should be adopted by anyone making a similar move. Northstar's reach out showed their concern for their reputation and their customers input. Again I would not hesitate in using them again. Their ranking on Angie's List was the primary reason I selected them even though their price was higher.

The booking went smoothly. The movers showed up on time and the pick up at the interim stop for boxes of stored goods went well. By the time that we got to the condo to pick up the remainder of the items, two of the workers were complaining and did not want to put down anything to protect the carpets (two of the workers spoke Spanish between themselves and the lead guy did not speak Spanish). Since we do speak Spanish, we knew exactly what they were saying. They did complete the move though they were complaining the whole way; there were some things that appeared to be lost but the lead guy was able to locate them and nothing was lost. They left their hand truck at the house and we called to let them know but they did not come to pick it up. I was impressed when I received a follow up call from the company to find out how it went. I explained what had happened and she said that she would follow up with me especially since the carpets in the condo got really dirty. However, there was no follow up after that and I called to follow up, left a message and told them about the hand truck, and still did not get a return call. Overall, the move happened fairly smoothly (we were very organized and prepared for them), the price was reasonable and completed in a reasonable period of time. We were extremely impressed at first but were surprised at the attitude of two of the movers after they had worked for about an hour. I would probably use them again if I had a major move.

I probably wouldn't use them again. They broke several things and were just not very careful. The guy was super nice. They were a little rough. They moved a whole lot of stuff, and a couple things broke. The responsiveness and punctuality was good.
Description of Work: I had purchased a big deal for $50 for $150 worth of moving services. We had a flooded basement, so they moved stuff out in the fall, and moved it back in the spring.

Adrian, Rene, and Julio were excellent movers and the process was as smooth as it could have been. They helped us finish packing the morning of and were very fast unloading at our new place. They were all very professional and courteous. I'm not sure exactly how their rates compare with other moving companies in the area, but in terms of service, they can't be beat.

It was great! They came on time, brought an extra person to help, and got everything done for much less than the estimate. They were very helpful and needed little direction. Having done several of these sorts of moves in the last few years, this was the best experience. We didn't need to do much to prepare, and don't have very much left to put away ourselves. They even helped me move a grill that was only at the new location, and was not part of their manifest.
Description of Work: This was a full service move of a two bedroom apartment to a two bedroom townhouse. They came, packed everything, loaded everything, transported, unloaded, assembled furniture, and unpacked.

Overall the service went well. The movers took a bit longer then I expected, but it wasn't outrageous considering all the items we had. They wrapped all our furniture with blankets. They moved all boxes into rooms we wanted and unwrapped all the furniture as well. About a few days after we noticed one of the drawers were cracked during the move. Their claims department works very smooth and compensated us fairly for the damage.

In general their service is very good. I recommend them because they did a good job. Communication with them was very efficient, and we felt very friendly in the moving process, from estimation of the cost, scheduling, and shipping. They have been considerate in scheduling the arriving time of the shipment to make sure we would be there to receive the shipment. The cost was also reasonable. I would use them again in the future if needed.

We understand that you are frustrated because you called about an available date for your move, learned it was open, then a few days later, when you were ready to book, learned that the date was no longer available. I regret we were not able to accommodate you at that point, but this is simply the nature of the moving business. Just like a hotel fills up occupancy after their rooms are booked, or an airline runs out of seats, a moving business is unable to take a reservation when its movers and trucks are already completely scheduled for the day. Until you have a reservation, we cannot promise availability, as we have a limited amount of trucks and moving crews. All we ask is that when you do make your reservation, you do so in good faith, as we also make it a practice to never dilute our quality by overbooking. This ensures that every move is given the attention and care it requires. If we do not have room on our schedule for another job, we must regretfully turn down your request for a reservation, as happened in your case.
