It was a fantastic experience. Kwon, Tek, and Julio were the best movers we have ever had! They were extremely professional, provided us a complete estimate at the time of arrival after inspecting the apartment, and our final charge was slightly less than what they quoted. They were very committed to staying within their estimate. They worked very hard and took great care of our things. Furniture was padded and shrink wrapped. They were very pleasant to work with and very attentive to our concerns and our experience as customers. I would not use anybody else for my next move.
Description of Work: Kwon, Tek, and Julio moved our two bedroom apartment to our single family home in Redwood City.

It went all right. They were gung ho in the beginning but they slowed down significantly when they reached the second address. I didn't appreciate the owner to keep calling the head foreman (called at least three times taking at least fifteen minutes each call and demanding the crew to take on another job after mine). It took away costly and productive time from the job I was paying. I wasn't expecting the end cost to be so high; I was exxpecting half the amount. They slowed down dramatically towards the end. I offered drinks for the four men and to me I also gave them a hefty tip. Unfortunately, I don't think they appreciated it. For me, that was a lot of money for a tip. .I used this same company two years ago and the bill of the move was $190.00. The addresses were exactly the same but swap on the from and to addresses. The cost of this move on 5/31/2015 came out to be over FIVE times the cost of our 2013 move.
Description of Work: Wrap some furniture but most were already set to go. The foreman agreed to help us empty out the sand from the bags.

I contacted the company yesterday about getting an estimate for moving, and then got a follow up email almost immediately, a call today and then another follow up e-mail. When I called back, I was able to talk to someone right away who answered all my questions and helped me schedule my move.
Description of Work: We just scheduled the moving, and the move has happened yet, but I found the experience really great so far. Really professional, very easy to get a hold of, and answered all of my questions.

We had a lot of heavy furniture, glass-topped tables, and delicate pieces that they took care to safely deliver. I was happy that they brought tons of blankets so I never felt like we were stretched to protect all of our belongings. The packing was topnotch. A few tips: * If you pay in cash, they also give a 3% discount. * If you want to bring your own packing material, make sure you ask what type of packing tape they'd prefer. We bought lots of tape beforehand but were surprised when they said that our tape wasn't strong enough (which was probably true). If we'd known in advance, we would have bought their preferred type though. * If you bring your own boxes, make sure they use your boxes. Even after we discussed that we had bought 20-30 boxes, they still used their boxes. It was an honest oversight and they ended up waiving the box fee but if I'd known that could be an issue, I would have watched from which pile they were picking up boxes. * I should have brushed up on my Spanish. Knowing phrases like, "Over there please," "upstairs," "downstairs" would have come in handy. It wasn't at all necessary but it would have been polite on my end. I've worked with lots of services and these guys were great! Would definitely work with them again.

We hired the NorthStar Moving Company to help us with our recent move. We heard about them through Angie's List and have been very pleased so far! Our move will be in 2 weeks, but I wanted to share my experience with setting up the appointment to move. My customer rep, Jessica, was so friendly and utterly patient and kind ... when I didn't understand certain terms of the contract, she went back over them in a way that then made sense to me; she helped me figure out exactly what we would need for the move, the amount of time we might expect to spend with their people, the items available through them to help with the move (including whether they would be part of the moving service or would be an additional charge) and finally at the end recapped everything in a such concise way that I was left with no doubt that our move will be a breeze thanks to using NorthStar and having Jessica be our first contact. I am glad that I went with NorthStar Moving for my last move. The moving crew were professional and really took care of our furniture and artwork. Very clearly spelled out on the phone. Email followed with agreed on details. Follow-up phone call, reiterating the details and cost, the day before. Day of move phone call to give us an arrival estimate (right when expected). Securely wrapped items and loaded. Unloaded quickly, but carefully. (and they had to climb 2 sets of stairs!) Re-assembled beds. I just wish I had had them pack and move my kitchen items because I am still in the midst of doing it myself.

Michelle promptly took my call after 5 p.m. which was nice since I work during normal business hours. She explained the move process, how the rate is determined and shared the schedule. She answered my questions and followed up the next day via phone when I sent an e-mail with additional questions and even was able to make a change on the date. So far the service has been excellent. I look forward to the move!
Description of Work: Northstar provided me a quote for a 1bed/1bath apt to similar sized condo and made arrangements for an upcoming move early next month. My review on the actual move will be written on completion of the work, but the quote process has been quite smooth.

Everything with the move went smoothly. Adrian, Misa and Noe were able to get everything in and out of my 2-bedroom apartment and into my storage unit within a 4-hour window. Adrian was very good to explain everything and ensure that I understood the process and costs. They took care to ensure that all my furniture was wrapped well to prevent any damage from occurring and were extra careful of shimmying my extra large couch out of my apartment and into the narrow doorway. I would recommend using Northstar for any move and would request the help of Adrian, Misa and Noe again for a future move.

If we had received all our goods, the full review would be A; certainly all the people were very, very nice, and professional; good & careful packing and carrying; attitudes excellent. BUT WE DID NOT receive all our goods. NorthStar Moving "lost" 61 of our boxes, that is, they were inventoried at pick-up -- we know all 61 tag-or-label numbers-&-colors -- but those 61 items were NEVER DELIVERED. Maybe they were STOLEN? Maybe LOST-or-STOLEN in their move from our house to their first storage facility? Maybe LOST-or-STOLEN when they moved everything from their first storage warehouse to their new, 2nd storage warehouse? Maybe wrongly delivered to some other customer? NO ONE KNOWS; nor do we know how many of the missing boxes had valuable/dangerous financial records or family photos/mementos or other valuable/dangerous/desired/needed items, though we do know some DID; because the labeling was often minimal, such as "small box, large box" and the like, sometimes with the room-where-found-or-packed, sometimes not. NorthStar Moving states that they searched every pallet and every vault in their entire warehouse but found none of our stuff. They also sent 3 men to re-inventory, at our new home, what was delivered and placed on shelving. But the 61 items were never found, here or anywhere. The total cost included storage fees as well as packing, pickup, and delivery charges.
Description of Work: On 1st trip to our house in San Francisco, estimated job; on 2nd trip, 2/24/14, packed and removed truckloads of household goods, all kinds, to their first storage warehouse; on 3rd trip, 2/25/14, packed and picked up remainder of all household goods, to their first storage warehouse. First delivery to new home was 5/23/14; 2nd delivery to new home was 9/11/14; 3rd and final delivery to our new home was 10/10/14.

We had been eager to assist you with this issue several weeks ago and were under the impression that you were still unpacking from your move and would contact us when you finished so we could proceed. When we originally sent three Team Members to your house to look for the boxes you claimed were missing, you thought the count was 75 missing boxes. We quickly located 14 of them inside your house, which is why we requested that you please finish unpacking before we processed your claim. Even though we had reason to believe the boxes may already be in your home, we did conduct an exhaustive search of our warehouse. We opened a full investigation that is still pending, as we have been waiting on any information you may be able to contribute to conclude our findings. We vetted many of our internal processes as well as noting several storage accesses you made over the time your belongings were in our storage, looking for clues in all possible places within our control. We understand that moving is difficult and that we are talking about hundreds of boxes needing to be unpacked, but we have, with total commitment and pleasure, spent time, money and manpower in this investigation. All we asked of you was to do your part and finish unpacking the boxes in your home so we have a full picture to complete our investigation. We asked this only so that we could do our best for you. If you decided you did not wish to unpack, you needed only to contact us and let us know that you wished to proceed without first taking this step. This way, we could have wrapped up our investigation with no new facts pending and concluded this matter for you weeks ago. Please contact us at your convenience. I have just begun the process of making a move and I have found NorthStar to be very prompt and professional in providing me with information relating to their services and prices. Working with NorthStar was great; everyone I dealt with during the whole moving process was always completely professional, and extremely helpful. The office staff kept me informed and updated with emails and phone calls during every step of the process, and when I called with questions they were always able to give me thorough answers without any delay. They were also very accommodating to the delivery rules of my new apartment building: since we cannot move in on weekends, the delivery window for my things was extended by a few days. On the day of my pick-up, the movers arrived almost immediately at the start of my appointment window and did a very thorough job wrapping each piece of furniture. I was given an itemized list of my belongings, each piece was tagged with a specific number. Dropping off my things was just as easy, we checked off each piece on the list as they brought it into my new apartment. There were only two points I wasn't completely satisfied with - first, the original day for my drop-off had to be rescheduled after their delivery truck broke down, however it took most of the day for them to come to that point. I appreciate that they still wanted to try to bring my things on the original day, but in the end I just spent the day at home waiting while they tried to fix the truck. It might have been better to just reschedule earlier on. The other was some slight damage done to a TV stand during shipping - the corner was cracked. However, the staff made it very easy to file a claim for the insurance included in my moving contract, and I received a settlement that will help cover the cost of a new stand. Overall, I was extremely happy with NorthStar's service, and highly recommend them.

Estimator came out, cataloged all of our stuff, and discussed options. We did not opt for the full service -- we would be responsible for the packing stuff into boxes. Estimator came back with a not-to-exceed quote quickly. They were much cheaper than other companies we checked with. The morning of the move, we had been up all night packing and hadn't finished. This was not a problem. They adjusted and handled the unfinished packing. They were very quick about it and perhaps not as careful as we would have been, but given that we didn't hold up our end of the bargain, I was just happy they took care of it, and nothing ended up broken, so nothing really to complain about there. They're pros, so not surprising that they'd be faster than us. They needed two large trucks for all of our stuff, but got it all done (pack, load, transport, unload) in one day despite having to do some extra packing work (though it was a long day!). It was also still within the not-to-exceed price we were given. We did have an issue where they missed a medium-sized piece of statuary for the back yard, hidden beneath some moving blankets. To be fair, I missed it too -- they had invited me to do a truck check. It took a few weeks to get that back to us, so that was a little disappointing, but other than that, we had a good experience with NorthStar.

The crew who did the move was Diego, Julio, Oscar, Ricardo and Roberto. The service went very well, they showed up when promised. They were very courteous, worked quickly and took great care of our things. I was very happy with my service and would recommend them.

Adrian, Julio and Kevin were very professional, on time and took great care with our belongings. Much much better than the last moving experience I had with a couple of guys I hired from the Uhaul website. Forget that, stick with the professionals.
