Description of Work: I had a blockage causing washer to backup. In the process of snaking the metal (very old) cracked. The tech was more than willing to come back next day. Since I do most of my home repairs he gave me a nice discount based on his time next day. I'm very pleased with their professionalism. Very happy!!!

Description of Work: Cleared clogged sewer line from house to main and did a video inspection showing us that line was slightly offset. Man was very friendly and very informative about the offset. Would use them again for sure! Only problem was company accepting pre-payment via Angie's List coupon. Resolved.

+ 0 moreSewage was coming up all the showers, toilets and sinks in the house so we needed service fast. Called Rescue Rooter based on BBB rating and Diamond certification. The dispatcher was efficient and responsive, the first plumber showed up in the time frame the dispatcher quoted. He started to work - identified that our clean-out was one way so he said he had to pull a toilet up to clear the drain ( we later found out he could have gone down a vent line and it would have cost less) and started to work. Then suddenly a second, older plumber showed up with a drain camera. He proceeded to run the line and show us problems (Oh,dear that looks like roots there!) then told us our line was in dire shape and needed immediate replacement, which they would do for $11,000.00. We asked whether this meant the work needed to be done in the next couple of months or whether it could wait six months. He said if it were him he would schedule the work the following week - there was no time to spare! We asked why the cost was so high - we thought replacing a leteral line ususally ran $3,000 to $4,000. He explained that digging up the line and replacing it would be less expensive but their method would not disrupt our front yard. Then the high-pressure sales really started, he told us he would discount the work done to clear the line if we would agree to have the $11K job done; he tried to get us to sign a credit application for a home equity loan with Wells Fargo to finance the work even though we told him we were not interested in financing. He called for the next couple of days trying to get a Social Security number so he could get the financing started. We finally got them to stop calling after telling them we were not going to do the work. On the advice of a frient, the day after Rescue Rooter was out to clear our line we called the City of Oakland Public Works and told them about the sewage backup. A crew was out in less than an hour, ran the main sewer line and told us that the backup was due to a blockage in the City sewer line not our lateral line. We subsequently looked up reviews of Rescue Rooter on Yelp and saw that others had had almost identical experiences with them.

+ 0 moreThey were very good at coming and solving our problem. It was actually a problem bigger than they could solve, but the initial work they did was very good. I think the price was reasonable. I didn’t have any complaints with them. They were very professional and didn’t leave a mess. If they said they were going to do something, they showed up on time and did it. If we had a problem again, I would hire them again.

+ -1 moreThe note above explains the reoccurence of a leak due to an improper hose connection that leaked. We use a shower head that is connected via hose to a wall fixture. This connection has not leaked in more than twenty years. This hose connection started leaking in less than one year, and I have a repair professional coming to repair the insidious damage to our kitchen cabinetry. I you deal with this company, and they do work on your kitchen sink, make sure you check daily for "small" leaks under your sink.
Description of Work: Rescue-Rooter 1618 Doolittle Dr. San Leandro, CA 94577 Dear Sir/Madam: On 3/6/2010 we had Rescue Rooter out to solve a sudden extreme leak problem under our kitchen sink. The service provider, Ruben, convinced us that our Grohe kitchen faucet had failed and must be replaced. Without asking us any preferences or giving us any other options, Ruben went and purchased a faucet of his choice. The faucet was of much lower quality, mostly plastic, he installed it and left with the Grohe faucet which he had declared was no longer functional and that he would dispose of it for us. After he left, we checked a plumbing book we had and discovered that the leak was most probably the hose only and that such hoses can easily and inexpensively be replaced. We called Rescue Rooter the next morning and said we would like our Grohe faucet back because we felt it could easily be repaired by attaching a new hose. First we were told by the company that it was probably still on the truck and they would get back to us. They never did and when we pushed and called again, the company representative said that our faucet could not be found. We called the Diamond Certification group who had listed & certified Rescue Rooter as a fine service provider. They apologized and said they would work on getting us a satisfactory settlement. Rescue Rooter sent us a check for $107.00. Our faucet had been purchased at Water Concepts for over $400.00 and was far superior to the replacement in all respects, it was metal not plastic and it was very sturdy. The replacement T178 faucet was not so firmly mounted onto the sink and tended to be wobbly, but we lived with it. On 5/21/2011, by accident we discovered the bottom of the kitchen cabinet had caved in due to water leaking from the new faucet. Rescue Rooter’s service person traced the leak to the hose connections to the new faucet both at the top where the sprayer valve was leaking and throughout the hose all the way to the connection to the drain. The leak had been very slow but steady and significantly damaged the cabinet. At this point we became quite furious about the entire deal from start to finish. First, if you are using actual plumbers and if they are instructed on the importance of doing professional quality work and to do the job without padding the cost to the customer, the service we received indicates none of this was achieved. It makes one wonder if casually adding on extra unnecessary work isn’t rewarded by the company and also puts extra pay into both the tech’s and the administrative staff’s pockets. Second, if this is indeed the case, isn’t it a clear case where the costumer who feels he/she has been cheated will most likely be angered enough to seek compensation for the rip off by making a public complaint about the episode? Tarnished brands have a difficult time recovering.

I’m not sure if that was foreseeable or not but they fixed that. The workers that came out for the job were fine. They were good. The only complaint I have is that they weren’t as tidy as I would have liked. They didn’t put everything back after they were done. I would not consider using them in the future.

+ 0 moreService was extremely prompt. I called their 800 number and was told it would be less than an hour (I was expecting one of those dreaded 4-hour windows). Service technician arrived within 40 minutes, which was great because we had family visiting. He gave me an estimate (which seemed a bit high but not unreasonable), and did the sewer line clean out. No mess; no fuss. A supervisor arrived toward the end and offered a free camera inspection of the drain line. I was somewhat leery, but agreed. The inspection showed some issues but there wasn't any of the tsk, tsk-ing I expected nor any dire predictions of impending doom. I got a good look at the line for free and an estimate to replace it if I was so inclined (no pressure).

+ 0 moreCalled them using Angie's List recommendation as a company that had all A's. The worker did show up on time and waited for me when he could have left. He got the water flowing, so the drain was unclogged. In the process he offered "for free" a camera view of the line after discovering that the line was off-set and could not remove all root-debris in the pipe. I accepted. Turns out the "for free" was only for the camera man, and was $200.00 for a VHS tape copy of the pipe... Overpriced!!! In addition to the to the $325.00 to get the line clear (but not totally, as there are still roots in my pipe). I spent $525.00 and I am not satisfied. They then offered to make a repair for $4,200.00, to repair the off-set and then offered to do the entire run of 40 feet for $7,000.00. Overpriced. User beware!!!

They did get our pipes cleared, but they had to come back several times, tracked dirt all over our white carpets, promised several things they were not able to deliver, lost our service appointment twice, etc. They also gave us an estimate for work that was OVER DOUBLE what another company finally did the work for, and when I called them to tell them this, they said if we could provide them with a written estimate, they could probably drop their price $6,000. At that point I really felt that they were trying to take advantage of us. I would NOT recommend this company for anything other than emergency plumbing.
