+ 0 moreThe estimator / "aborist" that came to our home to evaluate a diseased tree and discuss additional work spent an hour here. He seemed uncertain about many things. He indicated he was out of time and would have to come back to complete the estimate. He never returned the call, and worse, hung up on my call when I tried to contact him. Seems unprofessional to me.
Description of Work: No services provided. Contractor did not return call as indicated.

+ -1 moreI have used them three times over three years. Work quality is typically excellent. If there is no supervisor on site--typically there is not--be very clear about expectations with the crew. Billing department was the only group that did not excel.

+ -1 moreHowever I did not choose to hire them this time. I chose another company for this work , but I still have there number and will be sure to call them for an estimate the next time work is needed.
Description of Work: I called Davey Tree Experts last year when a professional trimming of a fair size tree in front of our house was needed. I called 3 companies for estimates. All of which I found through Angie's List. Davey's was the 2nd company to give an estimate They were polite both on the phone and in person. They were able to come by my house at a time that was both convenient and soon. They gave me an estimate that was appropriate and were able to suggest a few things that the 1st company had not mentioned.

+ -1 moreThey are professionals. I do not think they are any more or less priced than others. They are courteous and polite. When you do talk to the workmen they all speak English. I used to go through the phone book before The Davey Tree Expert Co and we always got an answering machine. Except for the trees being trimmed or the hedge being cut back, you would never know they were there.
Description of Work: They trimmed a very large hedge and trimmed the trees along the side of the house. They come every year.

+ -1 moreWhen I called The Davey Tree Expert Co I told them I had a tree to trim and I wanted to have a tree planted. The arborist came and spoke to me about the trees. They came back and did the trimming on the existing tree.
Description of Work: They trimmed a large tree in my backyard. I would like to plant a tree in the back yard. They have given me good advice on what type of tree to plant. I questioned them as to whether this was the best time to plant a tree and he suggested I plant it in the fall.

+ -1 moreI don't use them anymore. I use other people now. I was not pleased with them. He was flaky. I used them a number of times because I have large trees. The fertilization is a waste of time and money. It doesn't work. I do it myself now. I do tree spikes. I don't remember what they charged me but it was a lot of money and they came with a big truck. The last time I had a tree put in, it actually failed, but it was not because of them. The workmen did not dig around the area well enough. The estimator that came out was a strange guy. He was not an arborist. They all claim that they are arborists and I don't know where he was trained. I was not pleased with them so I don't use them. I had unpleasant experiences with the guy. He talks very good because he is a salesman, but I think they are very highly priced. It is an Irish operated company and they are from Ireland.
Description of Work: I used the tree service company in San Francisco to put in a tree for me. In the past they had clipped trees and done deep root fertilization.

+ -1 moreThe estimator showed up on time, we had to wait only a few days to get on their schedule. Workers also arrived on time, they performed the trimming correctly and efficienctly. We hire them because they are licensed arborists and will not top or mutilate your trees. Our trees always look good and grow vigorously after they've been pruned. They also give a lot of tips on tree care and can offer recommendations as to what types of trees are best for your home.
Description of Work: This is the second time we've used them to do tree pruning. We have 3 birches, a chinese pistache and a chinese hackberry on our lot. We hire Tree Professionals every 3 years to remove dead wood, train the trees to grow in the right direction and inspect the trees for illness. This year we had them remove a dead birch and relocate a small orange tree.

+ -1 moreArrived an hour or so later than planned, but completed the job by end of the day. Three guys about 2.5 hours. Be sure to remove anything breakable from the vicinity and protect plants from falling limbs, especially falling palm fronds, they're so unpredictable.
Description of Work: Trim two 40 foot palms and two large magnolias. Cut back an overgrown Japanese maple. Clean up all debris.

There was a miscommunication on just exactly what was to be done with the Magnolia, but the representative was very cooperative about coming out to look at it before I paid the bill. I wasn't interested in bickering about the bill, just wanted an explanation and got it. I paid the original bid amount.
Description of Work: Trim two palm trees and a magnolia tree. I have the palm trees regularly trimmed (every 2 years), so they did not have dead fronds down the trunk.

+ -1 moreThey were prompt in coming out once the appointment was made. They cut back the trees which visually opened up the backyard. They removed all the debris. It wasn't necessary to be home. They did a great job and I would recommend them. They were very professional and the the receptionist set the tone on excellent customer service.
Description of Work: There were several overgrown trees in my backyard that needed to be pruned as well as removing some dead trees. I called The Davey Tree Experts and made an appointment the following Monday. Paul was prompt in coming out and giving an estimate. He also made some recommendations regarding the trees in the front yard as well. They pruned approximately seven trees which include two Ash and several Pear varieties in the back and removed three dead Cyprus. Then with their recommendation, they pruned back my two Japanese maples from the house as well as the two Palm trees and Liquid Amber in front. My neighbor's pine tree was killing most of my plants on the side and encroaching on one of the trees, I spoke with them and they agreed to have that portion of their tree cut as well. Davey thinned it out beautifully giving my plants some sunlight and not disturbing the integrity of the neighbor's pine.
