Services we offer
Pest Control - Bugs, Insects, Bed Bugs, Rodent Exclusion, Termite Control, Termite inspection.
We received multiple bids for the work to be performed and decided to use Planet Orange Services, since we felt their price was fair and we had previous experiences with the 'Planet Orange' brand that were very positive. We continue to have our house serviced by PO for pest control, but the two divisions perform separately from each other. The project was planned with an in-house visit and work was to be completed in 7-10 days, which was great since we would be without our master bath during this time. The project took about a month to complete with an entire week going by with no work done. The original team that started the work left the company midstream and other workers were sent to finish the job. Scheduling seem to be a big part of the problem, since they were commuting from San Jose and were required to NOT do any over time. With an almost 2 hour commute each way and lunch, that left barely 4 hours of actual work to be performed each day. This seemed to have not been calculated into the time plan. I work from home, so I could closely monitor the progress and workmanship every day. Besides being an engineer, i'm also a handyman and woodworker, so I understand fully the work to be done. There were many problems I had to point out to Joe Hui (office boss) and have the workers repair. 1. Tiles were 'popping' after they should have been dried and solid, meaning the mortar wasn't mixed properly or old. 2. Tiles are still uneven with raised corners and we still have a couple of tiles that are 'popping' when walked on. 3. The newly installed wooden subfloor was not cut to seal under the toilet flange, so they had to seal that up after the fact, otherwise you could see right to the dirt under the house. 4. Someone dropped a tool into one of the sinks, cracking it, so I had to buy to new matching sinks and replace them myself. I paid for one of them and had to ask PO to pay for the other. There are two matching sinks and it was hard to find one that would fit the given hole cut in the marble top. They were $294 each. 5. The bathroom vent fan was left on during the demo work, causing it to become encrusted with the dust and breaking the fan. I had to remove, repair and install the fan, using some JB Weld. A new one was $364 + a $114 brass grill 6. The back splash was grouted and sealed in one day. The worker claimed he could simply add the sealant (bought by me) to the grout and it would have the same affect (he's been doing this for his entire career). I verified with Mapei that there are additives you can put in the grout so it's 'self-sealing', but that the paint on sealer only works as directed. Obviously the worker didn't want to make another trip from SJ to complete the sealing job after the grout had dried. The back splash still has voids were he didn't fill the cracks with grout and is obviously NOT sealed, since water just soaks into it, rather than beading up. So that's where the project ended. We paid in full, but had to ask twice to get the offered 10% discount for Angieslist customers. They claimed it was only for the original quote and not add-on work. I had to argue that this was not stated in the offer, etc. We had a 10% coupon from their mailer and the Angieslist coupon, both for 10% off. Joe has asked me to find a local handyman to quote what it would cost to fix the popping tiles and backsplash, but really, I don't have time to ask some poor guy to give me a quote on a job he didn't start. I'm tired of the back and forth and expect the contractor to complete the job in a professional manner to accepted standards. I'm afraid to imagine how the work would have come out if I didn't know what workmanship is and not kept a watch on what they were doing. This job was quite involved with 2 contracts and various phases to be completed. The planner should have been more explicit in what was involved in each step and the timing and interaction of each phase. The billing for the work completed was not clear, nor was the payment plan. The company was about 2 weeks into the job and asking for additional money for tasks that were not yet completed. So breaking down the work to be performed and billing as the steps are finished would be much easier to follow. Everybody I spoke with or worked with on this job was courteous and helpful. We scheduled the work around holidays and their other projects. It seemed the main problem was the mis-calculated commute time from their home base of San Jose and limiting their workers to an 8 hour day (including travel time).
Description of Work: As a result of pest inspections during the purchase of our house, we identified several required repairs that need to be done. This included sub floors that had been 'eaten' by wood boring beetles, necessitating replacement of floor joists and rim joists. The largest portion was in the master bath, which required the tile floor to be torn up and all vanities removed. The smaller portions were exterior fascia board and some other rim joists. Also toilets were replaced that had leaking seals.

He didn't perform the service, but he did come out and view the situation. He was nice. He couldn't spray because I had stuff in the garage that I didn't want to get full of spray. He said he'd come back out but didn't. In the meantime, he marked the Big Deal as redeemed. I think he may have forgotten the circumstances of the transaction.

I like them because I used them before for termites. They were nice and timely. I actually called them back this week for a redo because I saw some ants again. He asked me if I want him to come in the house and I said yes because most of the time people just want it outside. He came in after he finished the perimeter and did the inside.

The inspector was very thorough, looked the house over very carefully, both inside and out. I think he also climbed up into the attic. The quote was about the same as the others that I got, though there was a little pressure to sign quickly. Overall I thought they were quite professional. I ended up using someone else mostly because that outfit's approach made more sense to me, but Planet Orange seemed solid. I have no hesitation in giving them a good grade.
Description of Work: They came out and did a careful termite inspection.

First guy did a little quirt here and a little there, not sufficient enough. They were FAST and I did not see if outside perimeter of home was thoroughly sprayed. Had to call 2nd time as I still saw ants. No comfort as man said sometimes there were nests under house that need more treatments. Augh! I had pest people in before, and they used a long stream of spray that wasn't like a mist that spread onto food and utensils, altho the second guy took care and re-sprayed where I saw ants. Nice that there was no odor and I hope it was environmentally safe for kids ad food. I had to ask "What is the chemical" but product still unknown to me, and I was assured it was safe. I have grandchildren I baby sit for. 30 days guarantee up and I still see an ant here and there. Guess this is par for the course. I wish zero ants.

Initial implementation went very well, like all insecticide treatments there are side effects to be aware of. The smell of oranges pervaded parts of the house for up to a week and this was expected. They gave us some industrial carbon odor absorbers to reduce the impact of the smell.

My wife and I purchased an older house a few months ago and there were a lot of spiders and other pests... After the first treatment the pests were gone. The technician is very punctual and calls the day before to confirm the appointment. Overall we are very satisfied and we are going to add the rodent service for a small fee for the 'just in case' scenario.

I got a second opinion in terms of removing insultation. Was told by Terminex it would run $5k to remove and seal. Planet Orange felt insulation is in pretty good shape and removing would really be a waste of money at this point. They saved me close to $5k, so thanks to them. We will now transfer over our normal service to them.

The provider arrived on time and was very nice. He and I went through the house first and he showed me the areas that could potentially be a problem. I was complaining about possible rodents inside the wall. He sealed off small areas in the garage with foam and sealed the bottom of the door into the garage. He left traps in the garage and attic. He also put a screen on one of roof vents because it had been left exposed. He crawled under the house as well. They are scheduled to return to check on the traps.

And for what we paid, they will come out to treat the pest in hand along with many others (should we need them to) for a whole year!
Description of Work: We thought we had bed bugs and had another pest control company come out to take a look and that inspector took a quick look at our box springs (which is where 99.99% of the bugs were) and said they were in fact bed bugs. He told me that my only option was fumigation, which was no option at all for myself or my family. So I called Planet Orange to see what my options were with them. This was all occurring during Christmas and New Years and Mark, the Director of the Pest Control Division called me back as promised. He was knowledgeable, polite and didn't rush me on the phone and assured me there was another way to deal with bed bugs that was much more cost effective and didn't put myself or my family out for nearly a week. I was then put in touch with Todd who helped me with scheduling service and answered all of my 100 questions with pleasure. He always answered his phone when I called and promptly responded to all of my e-mails. Josh came out to perform service and was on time and a pleasure. We had gotten rid of the infested box springs but I had many samples of the bug in plastic bags for him to look at and he immediately told me they WERE NOT BED BUGS! He treated our home as planned and took the samples for his boss (Mark) to examine. The bugs turned out to be scavenger beetles which feed off of fungi NOT humans (which explained why no one in our home suffered from bites). We had purchased new box springs and they were being held in our garage when our garage flooded. We didn't think the box springs had gotten wet but they did, which explained why our box springs looked moldy. The beetles were feeding off of our box springs! We were refunded the extra cost of the bed bug treatment and paid for the maintenance/removal of the scavenger beetle. Planet Orange could have very easily kept the extra money since it was already paid for in advance. The bottom line here is that this company and these people are honest, knowledgeable, provide excellent customer service and you should use only Planet Orange for any pest need. Having the scare of bed bugs is awful and had we listened to the other company/inspector we would have been out a lot of money/time/effort/etc. all for nothing!

The technician was proactive and prompt, calling ahead to confirm an appointment time and arriving exactly as promised. After examining our apartments, he identified the insects (turns out we had roaches), and then laid out a spectrum of remedies, ranging from simple passive bait traps to spraying affected areas. He laid out pro/cons of each, and let us make the decision. Since the service was pre-paid, I suppose we risked having him recommend the lowest cost solution (for Planet Orange), but we didn't get the sense that he did that? he was willing to do whatever we wanted. ? the bait traps worked, the roaches behaved as predicted, and in the 10 days since the visit, we haven't seen any more insects. I don't mind paying for sound advice and legitimate expertise in order to get the proper fix in place as quickly as possible. In this case, I feel like Planet Orange delivered both, and they did it in a friendly, professional manner.
Description of Work: Planet Orange examined our recent invasion of ants and other insects, advised us on likely causes/sources of invasion, and remedies. The technician was straightforward and honest, providing us the spectrum of remedies, and then implemented our agreed solution.

They did a good job. My HOA paid for it. They were on time and they did a clean job. They cleaned up after themselves really well. We won't be able to tell if their stuff was effective until we see if any new termites show up. They were very thorough. One day they seemed to arrive late. Otherwise I didn't notice any particular problems. The price was average.

I was not there when they did it, but my wife was happy with it and we have not seen any spiders since there were issues, so, we were happy with it. The appointment scheduling was easy, they were responsive, and explain the products very well, there is nobody top like Carlson. And explain what they are going to do. I believe that they just did that when I got there. That was the only feedback that I have in terms of what had happened. It was 3 weeks ago.

i purchased an angie's list deal which promised a call back and scheduled appointment within two days. Two days past and I finally called them on the third day and had two wait three more days for them to come out. By the time they showed up my bug problem had diminished. Since this was paid for I had them come out and complete the work. They sprayed the "good stuff" and it killed whatever it came on contact with. We still have bugs and spiders, so I don't know how effective they really are. Our initial problem was resolved, but I don't know if that was from the treatment or nature. The person who came out on site was professional and easy to work with. He did promise to identify the bugs and did not follow through on that. In the future, I will go with a regular exterminator that uses a less green treatment that will actually solve the problem.
