I couldn't have been happier with Hussey Bros. I had 5 bids in total and chose them because of how thorough they were in assessing the heating needs of our home (they spent 90 minutes doing the assessment alone, where others spent 20-30). I received a very detailed explanation of the services and cost attached to each service when they submitted the quote. They weren't the cheapest, but they were the most thorough. My outstanding review of Hussey Bros. isn't because the project went without hiccups, but is a result of how they handled the hiccups to deliver a great product with excellent customer service. The project was originally estimated to take 3-4 days; it wound up taking a full 5. There were 2 men who were responsible for the project, although we wound up having a total of 5 people in and out throughout the week. The 2 lead gentlemen were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. On the "softer" side, they were polite, considerate, and I trusted them in my home. They were fully dedicated to making sure we were happy with the end result, and, although I imagine they were frustrated that the project took so much longer than expected, they didn't demonstrate that frustration to me at any point in time. They pulled in their colleagues at various points to help out and consult when they weren't 100% sure of how to handle a problem (I was impressed not only that they called in reinforcements, but that reinforcements, including the owner at one point, showed up without grumbling that our job was interrupting their own work). Their focus was always on making sure the job was done well and to our satisfaction. They checked in with me whenever they had a question on thing like vent placement, return placement, etc. and kept aesthetics in mind as much as they did functionality. Hussey Bros. went above and beyond in "delighting" us with their service. I absolutely recommend them.

They were very responsive - Called at 11am, he was at my home 30min later. Upfront on the charges. He showed me the problem with my AC fan (it needed a new capacitor). He demonstated how changing the capacitor made the fan work. He did not have the right component in his truck and so he want back to the shop to get the right capacitor and the job was finished within 2 hours of my call.

Update 5/12: To add insult to injury, the air conditioner isn't working at the very start of the next season (i.e. now). It keeps cycling on and off every few seconds. Seems like something didn't get fixed. Overall, I'm sad to share that I felt oversold on services we didn't need by a nice guy from this company. Here's the blow by blow... Scheduling: Initial scheduling over the phone was easy and friendly. On the day of the appointment, however, I receive a call asking if I can make it earlier because of a scheduling issue on their end. I couldn't because I had to leave work early to do make this appointment... and leaving even earlier wasn't an option. They say ok and that they'd make the original time. Later, after I'd already left the office, they called to reschedule to a different day. Later again, a different person called to say they'd be at my home in 30 minutes. They arrived an hour later. Actual start time: one hour later than scheduled. This is both very nice (because they kept the commitment to show up, even though it extended their day) and difficult (because it was so late). Overall, I'm appreciative that they came anyway. Work done: Diagnosed the unit and found one part had rusted. The part cost $150'ish. He replaced it and only then found that the coolant was empty, which implied a leak. He suggested we replace the unit for $3,000'ish or do a search for the leak (at $90 per hour), and I declined. Feeling oversold: 1) After replacing the part and charging me for it, he then encouraged me to replace the entire unit for $3,000'ish. The unit is 9 years old, and he said we'd likely only get a couple more years out of it - so why not replace now. I felt uncomfortable having just paid for a brand new part having him then say "spend 20x more and we'll replace the whole thing, and also throw away that part." When speaking with family who know more about HVAC than I do, they said that while 9 years is not an early death for an air conditioner, it's entirely conceivable that another 5+ years can be had from this unit. In the end, my AC is now working and I haven't had to replace it. 2) He went further to say that our area (mid-peninsula) has 'extra moisture' that causes more rusting than in other parts of the Bay Area... hence the need to replace the entire AC unit sooner. This is simply not true. When another company came a week later, they reaffirmed that our area is not subject to extra rusting. Areas like Pacifica and Half Moon Ba do suffer more rust because they are constantly exposed to salt water, but not the Bay side of the peninsula. 3) If we didn't replace the unit, he estimated that it would take $500 to $1,000 to find the leak in our system at $90 per hour. Another company did it two weeks later for a flat rate in less than one hour. While the other company's work may turn out to be insufficient, at the moment I feel quite oversold here. End timing: When he arrived, I shared that I needed to pick up my kids from school in 60 minutes. He ended up staying for 2 hours, despite me repeatedly sharing that I needed to go. This was, on the one hand, very nice because he wanted to see things through. He stayed far past the end of his normal day. I appreciate that. On the other hand, this was difficult for both me and my family. Additionally, he left part of the AC unit slightly open by not replacing a screw he'd previously removed. He also slightly bent the metal cover of the unit by repeatedly stepping on it with the back of his shoe while working. In short, the more I expressed my ignorance of HVAC systems, the more I feel like I was sold unecessary and expensive services. I am glad that I asked to stop before more was done. On the other hand, the gentleman who came to our house was nice and friendly and seemed to know HVAC well.

We had been victimized by an earlier furnace repair company. They were back, and ready to rip us off again. I got suspicious and used angie's list to find Hussey Bros. Steve Hussey was knowledgeable courteous and efficient. He restored our system to full operation and saved us from paying for an exorbitant and unnecessary repair at the hands of the other furnace company. Thanks angie's list and thanks Steve.

They were very honest and diagnosed things quickly. They had the electronic modules in the truck usually, so they came back, but, didn?t charge me. They came out quickly and addressed the issue. I feel they should have more trucks on the road. I liked their services and will use the same in future.

He showed up right on time and told me exactly what they were going to do. He fixed the vibration we were hearing from the furnace. He also gave me an honest assessment of how much life we had left with this furnace and what it would cost to install a new one. Thanks Hussey Bros.!

Serviceman Claudio was prompt, punctual and friendly. Responded to the call on Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Service charge to diagnose the problem $135 Excellent service.

They were pretty thorough but they were also pretty expensive. I think they were punctual and professional.

Hussey showed up on time, quickly isolated the issue and reviewed the cost of the option of just fixing the current part ($89) or the cost of replacing the part ($400). He discussed the Pro's/Con's of each option and left decision to me. Very professional and competant.

The repair was quickly resolved and I would recommend this company to anyone in need of heating repair.

Our heater decided to quit on New Years weekend. We called many of the heating and A/C companies on the list and Hussey Bros. was the only one that would come out on the holiday weekend. We called at around 11:00 am and Steve Hussey was here by 1:00. He told us that the motor had died on our old heater and he gave us the option of either replacing just the motor (for 600$) or the entire heater for 2700$. He gave us the pros and cons of just replacing the motor on a 26 year old heater. We decided that we needed to get a new heater and they came on Monday to replace it. Scott and Johnny showed up at 9:00 and were done by 4:00. They were very nice and explained exactly what they were going to do. They made sure that my house didn't get too dirty during the process. I was really impressed that they got it done in such a short period of time and during a holiday weekend. They didn't charge us for the intial estimate even though it was a Sunday and they gave us 10% off! I would recommend them to anyone who asks...in fact I have told my friends if they need a good company I have one !

The job went very well. I knew I wanted the Mitsubishi unit, so I only got bids from Mitsubishi Diamond Dealers. There were only two certified Mitsubishi Diamond Dealers in my area. Steve Hussey came out for the estimate. He clearly knew more about air conditioning than the estimator from the other company. Hussey Bros. also had a more verifiable quality work record and a lower price, so I signed a contract for the installation. I scheduled the installation to occur after I returned from vacation. Steve said he would call me to confirm the installation once I got back. He did call, but said that Mitsubishi was sold out of the unit I wanted on account of the $1500 federal rebate. I had to wait a few weeks, but the units did come in and we set up an install date that was convenient for me. Two installers, Scott and Johnny, arrived to do the install in the morning. They placed the units where I wanted them and did a very nice job installing them. They did run into some problems. They had to return to the shop when the refrigerant lines were a few feet too short and had to make two trips to the hardware store for parts they needed. The connection into the main electrical panel was probably the most difficult thing to do, because it was hard to get to from under the house. Scott and Johnny stayed late ? till almost 7 PM to get the primary installation done on a Friday. The next day, Saturday was 99 degrees and the unit performed well. Scott and Johnny returned on Monday to finish some cosmetic work and sign off with the building inspector. The installed unit looks great and works great. I would definitely recommend Hussey Bros. as a competent and professional air conditioning installer.

They quoted me $12,000 for a heating and air conditioning unit. Their price was much much higher than the other companies I talked to. However, the estimate was nice. He used computers and did some measurements, but the price was just too high.

They replaced the ducts, installed 5 vents and the air-conditioning. They explained things upfront and in detail, but we did miss one item that was a low priority thing. They were not quite perfect, but the work was very good. They came out several times to re-adjust the balancing and they were diligent about that and did not charge extra.

Went very well. Their technician actually showed up a little early. He spent 2 hours diagnosing and making the required adjustments to restore the heater/air handler back to proper operation. Note that I had a bunch of questions regarding system balancing and airflow output that he answered in detail. Those questions took up a fair amount of the 2 hours spent on the job. He billed me for the diagnostics charge only as no parts, etc. needed replacement or repair.

I was happy because Hussy Brothers came the very next morning and fixed the heat that day. I thought the price would be more so I was happy that it was low. I would hire them again if I needed them in the future.

We felt Hussey Bros. was very professional on the phone and didn't seem to be giving us a bogus quote over the phone. (One company we called said that we would need to replace the entire gas valve due to the pilot light not staying lit...we knew this was not true!!!)They explained that there is a $69 inspection fee (which was the cheapest we could find). Claudio showed up on time and explained the issue that was affecting our pilot light. He worked for several hours on both wall heaters - he even showed me all the soot and ash that was collecting in the heating element and heater core. He waived the $69 inspection fee which we greatly appreciated. Great and honest service at a reasonable price.

Claudio was an excellent worker. He arrived on-time and did the what we wanted and more. He was extremely polite and we were very happy with his work.

We woke up on Saturday, and the heat was off. It had stopped in the night and the temperature was dropping. It went from about 65 degrees to about 55 degrees in about 3 hours. My 6 month old and I were both sick with the flu, so I went on Angie's List and started calling everyone in the category (about 15). I left messages for about 12, and Hussey Brothers was the only one to call back that day (and of the other 14, only 1 other called on Mon). He said it was an extra $100 to come out on Saturday, but given the options, we agreed to it. Claudio came out about 3 hours later. He immediately found the problem, had the part in his truck, and by late afternoon, our heat was back on. He even helped us inspect the heater, cleaned and vacuumed out the dust and showed us what kind of filter we should have on it. He found another problem with the heater, and we decided to have him fix it later that week. It was not cheap, but it was totally worth it. Claudio is highly recommended!

They were very professional with the work that they did. They cleaned up after themselves. The heating and cooling system that they installed works great. They were very responsive to my needs and were excellent to work with. I would refer this company to anyone.
