SERVICE & SELECTION PROCESS: The service I received in the store was excellent. My questions were answered and I did not feel pressured to choose a particular product or even to buy a product from Conklin. Many a salesperson would have become frustrated with me: I spent a great deal of time going back and forth in the store, pulling different samples down, walking on them, moving them from one place in the store to another to compare quality and colors. Choosing flooring was an important and difficult decision for me; Conklin salespeople seemed to understand this and were patient and helpful. Conklin Bros. has a vast selection of flooring. Though I had originally planned to buy hardwood for the hall floor, I was surprised at the quality and look of some of the wood-like laminate choices. Laminate has come a long way in the last few years! Again, the salespeople did not pressure me either way, answered a lot more questions I had, and gave me sound and useful advice on installation of various types of hard flooring (I installed it myself). PURCHASE: Making an appointment to have the rep come to my house to make measurements was without hassle; he was very accomodating. When he came to my house he was professional and effecient, but not rushed. Another selling point was that when I finally made my purhcase, they were thorough in calculating how much of the flooring I would need. I was working within a strict budget, and they knew this. INSTALLATION: The wait time for installation was minimal and no longer than had been estimated. When it came time to schedule the actualy installation, things could not have been easier - and of course, they called the day before to confirm the installation. The installers were punctual, courteous, they moved a few heavy pieces from one room to another, and left the place as clean as they left it. They were respectful: tidy and quiet throuhout the entire installation. To many, this may all sound like what any showroom should offer, and I agree. Before going to Conklin, however, I had visited a number of other flooring retailers (as well as big box stores) and I did NOT receive the respectful, professional, personal, and amiable treatment that I recevied at Conklin.

It went wonderfully. I worked with the store manager, Paul Henthorn, who made the entire experience a delight. I have an older home, and he knew exactly how to address any problems, which installers would be the best for the job. He was also a great source of ideas.

We went to Conklin Brothers to look at wall-to-wall carpeting to replace our stained family room carpet. Both my husband and myself had been expecting this project to be a big hassle both in trying to find a carpet that we liked and having to deal with sales pressure. However, our experience at Conklin Brothers was not at all like we were dreading. Salesman Rae Hanson met us as we walked into the very attractively laid out showroom and helped us find exactly what we were looking for very quickly. He listened carefully to our specifications, answered all our questions in a friendly, straight-forward manner - no hard sell at all - and gave us an excellent price, all within a half an hour. This morning, two very professional and friendly men installed the pad and carpet in about an hour and hauled away the old one as well. They also stretched the carpet in our upstairs hall. All in all, this was a very painless experience. I recommend Conklin Brothers.

Everything went extremely well, and we were very pleased. The care in which they had done the installation was very good.

I needed to install new flooring in my townhouse rental, which has a cement slab foundation. I appreciated the advice and expertise of the Conklin people, especially Susan, who helped me with all the details of selection and design considerations for the downstairs flooring (I picked Amtico flooring, which looks like wood slabs, but is tough and not subject to water damage like laminate or real wood is). She also recommended the carpeting for other areas and the trim for the vinyl in the bath. She could articulate responses to all my design concerns cleearly so I could hone in on each choice and feel good aout it.. The installers were superbly skilled, timely, no problems whatsoever, willing to discuss in advance the process (for Amtico flooring) and to address all my questions. Cleanup was excellent as well. Next flooring job I have, I'll go back to Conklin.

We had a great experience with Conklin Brothers. We happened to catch them on a sale and couldn't find similar carpet at the same pricing elsewhere. The salesperson was also much more helpful then those we encountered elsewhere. I did have to check in several times to find out when the carpet would be available for install but they always returned my calls. When the service guys came to install they actually showed up early in the time window - I'm usually the last when given a 4 hour time window so this was a nice surprise. They did a great job installing the carpet. My one criticism is that adjust the baseboards at all. Perhaps its standard practice and I'm not familiar with it but now are baseboards are pretty much hidden by the carpet. I know in the past when I've had hardwood installed they remove and replace the baseboards. If it's important to you I would check. Since the install we have thoroughly enjoyed the carpet.

October 29,2009 Re: Our wonderful new carpet and fantastic experience with Rae Hanson and Conklin Brothers. We needed a new carpet to replace our ancient shag carpet. We visited Conklin Brothers showroom in October based on positive listings on Angie?s list. The salesperson that helped us was Rae Hanson. Rae worked with us to identify a couple of options for a new carpet. Rae also knew just how much time to let us look around and just when to provide additional information. Rae is very knowledgeable about different types of carpet and their wear and stain resistance under different conditions. He also has a remarkable and thorough knowledge of Conklin Brothers century long history and unique capabilities. With Rae?s expert help we identified two possible carpets. He had samples mailed to us and followed up to be sure that we received them. Rae then visited our home to take measurements and let us know what would happen next. He also gave us the final price including a high quality pad and our senior discount. I think that it is very important at this stage to have an expert measuring your carpet to insure that you do not pay for unneeded carpet. The final price was almost one third less than I had estimated due to Rae?s expert analysis of our needs. As Rae had indicated, the Conklin installation people contacted us and scheduled a date to install our carpet. We only had to remove books, videos, and other personal items from our shelves. On the day of the installation, the people arrived within the time window. Even though there was heavy rain on the installation date, the installers, Marvin and Orlin, quickly stowed our furniture in a room with no carpet and got right to work. I did not see them stop working while they were doing the installation. I was present for most of the installation. As Rae had indicated, the installers work directly for Conklin brothers, not a subcontractor. Marvin said that he had worked for Conklin for 10 years. I was surprised and amazed by the complexity of installing carpet well. It takes several hours to do it correctly. If you do not use an experienced company like Conklin brothers, I think that you could have a mess on your hands. Clearly, Rae?s team was experienced and installed the carpet well. Marvin even noticed that the factory had sent extra carpet so he changed the plan so that our carpet only has one seam. We are very pleased with our new carpet. We believe that Rae and the installation team are outstanding professionals who work for a great organization. We brought a paint sample and a linen sample from our planned new decor to the Conklin showroom in Fremont. We were greeted cordially by Bob Anderson who was attentive to our story and showed us several possible carpet solutions in various price ranges. We were able to make a choice within 10 minutes, at which point Bob showed us the various pad options. Being a little bit fanatical about the 'feel' of installed carpet, we chose the best quality pad. The next day, we were contacted by the Conklin scheduler who arranged an installation appointment in the following week (our carpet choice had to be ordered). A day before the appointment, a courteous Conklin staffer called to confirm the appointment. On the day of the appointment, the installers arrived about 45 minutes early, apologizing and inquiring if they could proceed. Of course, we were pleased to have the opportunity for an earlier installation, and they completed the job in less than an hour. The workmanship is superb, cleanup was impeccable, and the installers were friendly and polite. We are very well satisfied with the feel the upgraded pad provides. By the way, Conklin makes a point of letting customers know that their old carpet will be recycled.

Conklin Bros was a pleasure to work with - we had some unusual features to deal with, and they made excellent suggestions for how to address them. The installer (Srechko, if I've spelled it right) is exceptional - clearly takes pride in his work and pays attention to the details. We actually did the work in two parts, separated by several months, since we weren't sure exactly how much we were going to do, and they responded quickly in both cases when I called to schedule. I had previously had a similar flooring installed by another company, and the experience was not nearly as good.

They did a very good job for us. They followed through and came out and did what they said they were going to do. When we had a problem, the man was very patient and said he would help us if it turned out to be the wrong carpet. It wasn't the wrong one so it wasn't a problem.

Conklin Brothers was quick to respond with an estimate and was a bit flexible in pricing as they started out much higher than competing bids. Our mistake was trying to get new flooring before the 2007 holidays when everyone who is looking for new floors is buying. We had a few starts and stops in getting the work scheduled. Were told it could start in two weeks - but ended up being nearly two months due to late ordering on their part and an already planned trip on our part. Removal of old carpet and installation of new carpet went great - really good crew. Hardwood rejuvenation went OK - but there was a lot of wood dust everywhere and the finished product did not look "just like new" as promised. Would not have done this work if I had it to do over again. Hardwood installation went OK - installers were very meticulous and finished product looks great. Only had one installer so it took three very long days to complete rather than the two that were scheduled.

Installer was very professional and arrived on time and did not take a break or lunch the whole day. He took out all old flooring down to the sub-floor and then installed a sound underlayment then the pergo. Looks excellent. Contractor was very professional and sales person was very helpful.

I used this company because of a very impressive presentation at a home show, and I was not disappointed. The salesperson was patient and helpful, spending a lot of time dealing with my questions and providing information. The installer was on time, even a little early. The old floor had been there for over 35 years. There was dry rot and termite damage discovered when the old floor came up. I was able to get this fixed quickly, but it meant rescheduling the installation, and the installer was fully booked. Knowing I was leaving on vacation, he came back the next day (a Sunday) and finished the job on what should have been his day off. He did a great job with the installation of flooring and baseboard, cleaned up thoroughly, and I am very happy with the product and service that I received. You can probably find cheaper prices, but the service and professionalism are well worth it. They are a quality operation. I'll definitely use them again.
