I chose to call United Plumbing Heating Air & Electric, as I had a good experience with a smaller job in the past. I had two(2) jobs, one Electric and the other a Gas line move. In both cases the individuals assigned arrived as expected, and came up with even better solutions to the problem than the original bid discussion. The Electricians worked efficiently, and met all of my needs and made sure that if was code compliant and pointed out and replaced a corroding braker that I had not known about. The Gas line crew included Mark in a Journeyman supervisor role and Jessie doing excellent work. All above "just getting the job done." Mark was clear on code compliance and Jessie worked with an upbeat attitude and care for details. Thank you all the way around.
Description of Work: I had a new Electric line put in and had a 'corroded braker' replaced that they noticed while working. The new line included the conduit, and two(2) new outlets. I also had a Gas line re-routed, as it had not been done up to full code by a different person. I ended up needing to replace the Water Heater, as it would not return to service after all of the other work, and yes, it was 'old' and legitimately needed to be changed. They even let me buy it myself so that I was only charged for the installation.

Great! Jeremiah was knowledgeable and courteous. Right on time, too.

It was a completely misleading offer from the service provider. It was just a step in the house was $39. I think Angie's List is culpable for offering this offer when it seems to be a scamming company.

They said the work I needed done was not part of deal. All I needed was a light fixture changed, which was stated as part of the deal. The person that I originally talked to schedule said that it was part of the deal. I have used them in the past and they were great. This time they didn't even let me know they wouldn't honor the voucher until after they were already supposed to be here.

After suggesting my scheduling preferences on Angie's list for 8/29, I was never contacted. So then I had to call and schedule a date with the contractor directly. The man arrived and did his inspection purely based on the visuals of how the outlet and the electric box looked. He said he could tell what needed to be done from the looks of the age of the building. The frustrating part was that he had a really negative attitude and it felt like he was arguing with me the entire time. His impression was that he was doing this inspection for me for free. I let him know that I paid $69 for it through Angie's List. Still, it didn't seem to improve the experience. He said he would email me his estimates so I can pass along to my landlord and see if they'd be willing to share the cost with me. Well, I never received the estimate, so I'm never using United Electric again and I'm probably not using Angie's List again either. He seemed to be an independent contractor using the United Electric name, because he had temporary business cards with a google email address on it. I'd recommend that United Electric (and Angie's List) do a screening of people like this who will make your company look bad.
Description of Work: I wanted an electrical inspection to advise me on a power issue I'm having with a couple outlets in my bedroom, and also, to determine if the outlet in my garage is suitable to charge a hybrid electric vehicle.

Oops, it went extremely well, see above under description of work done.
Description of Work: In January, I had this company replace my outside electrical circuit breaker panel, install a new heater, and replace the kitchen lighting. Wally, the electrician, was very personable, and thorough. Jose did a great job on the kitchen lighting. Just a couple of weeks ago, I called the company to install a new air conditioning unit. They are always on time, professional, and work hard at getting the job done, and done right. The area for my heather, and then the new condenser and coil, is very small and hard to work in, and both the heater installer, and Jerry, the air conditioner installer were fabulous. They clean up after their work, leaving no mess behind. Have been very pleased with all their work.

They showed up for my 1-3pm appointment at 4 and only after I called. The technician was rude. He didn't listen to what I wanted done and just threw out a number. I went out of the house for a minute. I went back in to ask him something, he was on the phone with someone in the office. He shh me and I waited a minute standing in front of him while he talked before I just left.

Made two appointments and they never showed up. First visit they had the wrong phone number but never bothered knocking on the door. After calling and complaining politely about a no show they assured me they would show up the second time. After another no show I called up and my appointment wasn't even on file. My file also says that the guy did show up and looked at our AC and said they don't fix wall units ( we do NOT have a wall unit). DO NOT CALL. DO NOT HIRE. Their front desk is unorganized and their techs don't care.

I was desperate. I went through Angie's List to book them, and they came right out. That should have been my first red flag because, most electricians can't come right out. I wasn't really happy with them, and they over charged me. The guy worked with me. I wasn't there, so my husband kept calling me. It was the circuit breaker. He was telling me that they may have to dig. He was giving me prices before he even looks and wanted the money before he even does the job. I said that we had already paid him $89, and he said it was $400 for two circuit breakers. I said yes and he only replaced one circuit breaker, not two. It seemed expensive to replace one circuit breaker. When I called and spoke to a supervisor, he took off $100. He charged me $300 for one circuit breaker. It wasn't a pleasant experience. He did lower the price, but these are contractors. I wasn't impressed with the guy. I was over charged, but electricians do charge a lot. I think $200 would have been a more appropriate price. He came out when I wanted him to come out. I called other electricians, but they weren't available. They did what they were supposed to do and repaired it. They didn't put the cover plate back on, or the fan back in. I guess they don't do that. He did restore power to that circuit breaker. He told me that I needed to replace the whole box. I didn't think he was very professional. It was $220 and then the $89.

It was a good price if we would have gotten what we needed but it just didn't work out. They tried to sell us a whole other thing we didn't need. It ended up we only needed to change our battery. So they really didn't do anything. They were just out to make some quick money with some older people and we weren't real impressed. The guy after he told us it was our batteries in our thermostat, he went outside and he called somebody and he came back in with this whole big speel about we needed a new flue going up, you know out the roof, tare drywall out and all this extra stuff that needed to be done.

The service man came out to look at my kitchen island. The outlet in the island was not working. The service man told me it would take approximately 30-45 minutes to diagnose the problem and would cost a total of $411.00. Total out of pocket expense, after big deal deduction of $300.00 would be an additional $111.00. I told him the price was too high and told him I was not interested. I believe I was being overcharged and would not recommend to others. This company also cancelled on me last minute for our initial scheduled appointment.

I purchased an order from Comfort Electric of $99 for $300 of electrical services. On 6/20/2016, a representative prepared an estimate for the items I wanted replaced. Everything quoted was way out of line, even with a quantity discount. For instance, replacing the ceiling fan was $198. LampsPlus will install for $95 with a 2-year guarantee. He quoted a replacement panel for $1,800. As of today, Angie's List had a deal of $999 for a $1,400 panel replacement. Even with the savings of $99, everything is overpriced and I'm not saving any money. Guess I just lost $99 and I am hesitant to buy anything else through Angie's List given this experience.

The electrician came out it is initial evaluation with an estimate of cost beyond the voucher. He requested a purchase of parts for the fans which was done. When the company was called to come and do the work they stated they had merged with another company so somebody would be getting back to us later. Four days pass another call was placed. This time they said they lost the paperwork . Then a follow-up to that call a third call was placed and a message was left with Jay. There was no return call from the company Comfort Electric to schedule time to do the work. I will never work with them they are extremely unreliable!

Overall it was a success. I'd purchased a $200 coupon from Angies List, but the job was much more extensive. Todd did all work except installing the panel. Day 1 (Tues): Todd assessed all the work I wanted done, and installed 6 new grounded outlets in kitchen, garage, and bathrooms; he also solved the problem of the bathroom outlets not working. Day 2 (Sat): Todd & a colleague installed 4 can lights in living room, & included dimmer switch "on the house" even tho it required extensive crawling around a tight attic. He gave me shopping list of what I needed for bathroom heating/vents. Turns out these were only sold online, so required subsequent appointment. (The ones they sold in the store would have required adding add'l ampage to the bathrooms, so Todd saved me quite a bit of money, time & hassle by getting me to order the infrared heat lamps.) While can lights were going in, the owner of the company brought a crew & huge truck & installed the new electrical panel on the side of my house. They also identified some dangerous wiring that had been done by the previous homeowner around the garage lighting, so they fixed it by adding appropriate junction boxes. Day 3 (Fri) Todd returned & installed the bathroom heating lamps. He "repaired" stucco around the box, tho it was pretty messy, & his cleanup left stucco on the sidewalk. I noted the motion sensor light over the trash still wasn't working, & he said he would contact me re when he could check it out. I waited a week & sent a couple of texts. At two weeks I sent terse note asking when the job would be done. Day 4 (Tues) Todd returned with a "temporary" motion sensor light, which works, and for which I wasn't charged. Their work is excellent, but I wish Todd had been a little more communicative about when he was returning to finish the job. He admitted he had a house painting gig on the side, and rain was threatening, so he was a little distracted. But the electrical work he did was excellent, I got some benes (dimmer switch, grounded outlets) I wasn't expecting, and I'm very pleased with the company.
Description of Work: Installed new electrical panel. Rewired & corrected existing wiring around garage. Installed 4 can lights in living room, including dimmer switch. Installed 6 new grounded outlets in garage, kitchen & 2 baths. Installed heat lamps & fans in 2 baths. Installed new outlet in bedroom.

I wanted a total light fixture replaced and I supplied the parts. I originally emailed them I wanted to have a 2 light fixture replaced, they did not alert me it maybe MORE money. I could have done it but had back issues so I thought the coupon fro $150 would cover the labor. The first agreed time I left work early, they did not show at the agreed time & I called them, they said their tech was coming to me next, after going beyond the last time scheduled @ 6pm I cancelled, I then rescheduled took more time off from work and they did arrive on the time agreed. This tech said it would cost another $100 for only 45 minutes work to replace the complete fixture (I think it would have been about 30 minutes max for a good professional 3 screws & cut the wires - very simple). This made them charging over $250 an hour. A surprise and outrageous! Again they knew what I wanted, yet I was not told it would cost so much. I had to negotiate and single connector replaced on my old light fixture, leave the old one so I had light in my kitchen - they charged me $150 = to the coupon for about 10 minutes work! Never use these switch artists again!
Description of Work: Replace single broken florescent light connector end (part is about $2), instead of my total old light fixture that I supplied.
