I contacted the company and explained that we had an entire two-story house plus garage full of items to move - after the conversation I was under the impression that someone would come and assess our situation before the day of the move, to make sure the estimate - how much time it would take, people needed etc. would be sufficient. That assessment didn't happen but I decided to go with this company anyway, based on the reviews I had read. Also their prices seemed reasonable. Asa, Dakota and John showed up on time the morning of the designated move. They worked very hard. We had a whole lot of stuff to move. Luckily, the house we were moving back to after a major remodel was approximately a mile away from where we were moving from, so that part was good. After many hours, we all realized that this move was going to take much longer than we had originally thought - and what was estimated by the company. We were all determined to get it done in one day. They started at 7 or 8 a.m. and finished at approximately 1 a.m. the next morning. As the evening got later and later, Asa, Dakota and John worked on with good attitudes, despite being understandably tired. There were some things that happened later in the evening that probably would not have happened, had everyone been less tired. An electric piano that belonged to my son fell from the truck and was broken as things were being unloaded. Asa photographed the item, so he could report what happened, etc. At one point in the evening we were informed we were going into time and a half, cost-wise; then a little later, overtime. When Asa wrote up the final bill, we were shocked at how much it was - even though we were informed along the way that the rate per hour had increased the later it got. Asa called after the move and said he found a similar piano on ebay for a certain price. My son said the piano was worth more than that. I tried calling MSJ several times after that to resolve this situation. Often I would try calling during the weekend since that is my time off and I would either get a fax number or no answer. Finally, after almost a year, I called during the week and spoke to Tiffany. She was very responsive and agreed to send a check immediately for the amount my son had found on ebay for a similar piano. We were very pleased with this! We did receive the check and now feel much better about the company. In retrospect, considering the amount of stuff we had to move, we realize it would have been much smarter (and probably less expensive) for us to schedule a two-day move. Asa, Dakota and John could not have worked harder than they did. We appreciate that. We also think our move could have possibly gone better with one or two more guys. If we were to do this over again, I would definitely want someone to come assess the situation first, so that the right number of people and the right amount of time could be designated for the job. After talking to Tiffany, I think the company is now trying to do this whenever possible.

My move went perfectly! Could not have been a smoother or more efficient move. I've moved 6 times in the last 7 years and this is the only moving company I would go back to if I needed to move again. I was completely prepared for the move (all boxes packed and ready to go) when the movers arrived. Asa, Edwin & Kris were timely, clean and wrapped and moved my furniture with care. Nothing was broken, scratched, dropped or mishandled. Most movers bring your furniture down to the truck and wrap it. These guys wrapped the furniture in front of me and then brought it downstairs to the truck. I could see how they handled the furniture and how well it was wrapped. One guy was down in the truck and kept sending the elevator back up to the other two guys after he emptied it. From the moment they arrived in my home there was constant motion. You could tell they were thinking professionals and this was not their first move. They worked quickly, they worked hard and they did an awesome job getting all my items out of my downtown apartment. At my Santee condo there was a flight of stairs to the front door. It was very hot and sunny. They continued to work quickly and placed my items where I requested with care. I had labeled most of my boxes as to which room they should be placed in. If a box was unmarked they asked where it should go. After all the items were removed from the truck I had some boxes in the detached garage that needed to be moved into the condo. Two of the movers brought two hand trucks each to the garage and grabbed all the boxes. They could have made several trips, ran the clock on the job but they didn't. The office was also easy to deal with. They were good about confirming dates, times and addresses. I truly appreciate the hard work and care shown by Asa, Edwin & Kris. Thank you for a smooth and easy move!!

The smoothest move I've ever made -- and I've moved over 8 different times all over the country. Carlos, Jeff and Junior were an awesome team, and Carlos worked together with me every step of the way on the efficient (and cost-effective) plan! They were very professional, friendly, diligent, and did the work in record time. I felt secure as I watched them wrap and prepare the furniture, etc. for moving and for storage. Andre and Luis from MSJ were absolute rock stars. They were courteous, professional, and took great care in ensuring not only the pieces to be moved were well-taken care of, but also ensuring they didn't disturb other items in the house. They wrapped everything with care and rearranged a packed storage unit to make room for the new items. They made thoughtful and cost-saving recommendations on how to store the items in the storage unit to keep them protected (light-colored suede material). They were efficient and we will absolutely use them again. Great team! It's nice to know there are people we can trust when we need moving services. MSJ Delivery did excellent work! Steve, Kris, and Edwin left San Diego right on time and began working efficiently to pack the truck as soon as they arrived at our apartment in LA. Everything was wrapped carefully and delivered in San Diego in the same condition. Because the team was so efficient, the whole move ended up costing less than the original estimate. I had a great overall experience with MSJ Delivery and would definitely use their services again!

I was thoroughly impressed with how quickly and smoothly the move went - they carefully wrapped all my furniture pieces in blankets and plastic wrap and were always careful not to hit anything on the way down. They packed anything that was not packed and saved me a few bucks in labor by having my dad and I throw the smaller things in the garage into boxes so they could move it quicker. Overall a great first experience using a moving company!

This is the fourth time I've used MSJ. The third time there was a big of a hiccup so I called Stu the owner and he promised things would go well this time. And they delivered! Fernando, Luis, and Rob came out and did a terrific job. Although I underestimated how much stuff there was to move, these three guys took it in stride with a great attitude and constantly moving. Even at the end of this nearly 9 hour move, they were moving quickly and were still smiling. Not a single item was damaged. The cost ended up being higher than I thought, but that was due to my underestimating how much stuff we had to move. They really worked hard and deserve an A rating.

It could not have been smoother! Steven, Asa and Junior arrived promptly at the appointed time and began work immediately. They worked incredibly hard, with only one 30 min. break. All 3 gentlemen were professional, pleasant and efficient! UPDATE July 24, 2015: Today Steve, Asa, JR. and Chris loaded the entire contents of our two-story, 4 bedroom + loft house...into 2 trucks! I couldn't believe how quickly and efficiently it went! All the furniture was carefully wrapped and gently loaded...including a piano, washing machine and outdoor propane fire table. Our over-sized chest of drawers and dresser were carried downstairs and into the truck without our even having to empty the drawers! These guys worked hard today and did an amazing job! I had to insist they stop and take a break for lunch. UPDATE July 26, 2015: Our two dedicated delivery trucks arrived this morning right on time, bright and early. Our furniture and items, including a refrigerator, were moved in in less than 4 hrs! Steve and Asa performed in their typical efficient and energetic style. They went above and beyond, helping move planters and a large safe from a closet to the garage. Excellent service today, as always.

This review is a bit late and I'm sorry, guys! Fernando, Andre and Bruce did a GREAT job. On time, courteous and very professional. I was impressed at the outset that I received a call about 30 minutes prior to their scheduled time of arrival asking if I needed any additional packing materials. I did, in fact, need additional packing materials so it was nice to get the call ahead of time and have them arrive prepared. Even before the guys arrived, I was impressed by how quickly I got a response from MSJ when inquiring about a move. I was also impressed with the woman who called to schedule (Tina, I think?). She was courteous and walked me through the "day of." She was also very upfront about all the pricing and gave me tips on how to save money (buy boxes ahead of time from Home Depot, etc.). My only issue - and this is because I know MSJ does strive to be transparent about pricing - is that I was misquoted what the mattress bags would cost and they ended up costing double what I was quoted. In addition to this, there was about 15-30 minutes of time on my receipt that I couldn't account for. It may not sound like much, but at $160/hour, and already very expensive day of moving, I noticed it, as did my wallet. All of that said, I tipped the guys well because they did an amazing job packing and moving. Nothing was broken or cracked and the items I packed myself (which for sure were not packed as well) were moved with care. Great work!

I also apologize for any unclarity regarding materials cost of mattress bags. Our costs for the mattress bags are a bit more than what you might pay at a retail store, but not by much, and in order to make it far more convenient for the couple dollars difference to our clients than having to spend time and energy going to get them on their own, as we do insist for hygienic reasons that all mattresses that we transport are bags and sealed for all clients peace of mind. I will be sure to go over with our office staff all verbiage and procedures to make sure that all materials cost is very clear and transparent, as we do not like giving our clients any surprises especially where money in concerned. The crew was great, it all went very well, showed up on time, moved all our stuff w/out any problems whatsoever, did it all in 3 hours, so I didn't get charged anything beyond my angies big deal. Asa, Brian, and Junior were great: quick, efficient, and responsive to our requests, even as we occasionally changed our minds on what was to move and what was to stay behind, and where in the new house it was to be set up. Couldn't have gone any better. In addition, though they sent a three man crew rather than the two man crew we had contracted, we were only charged the two-man rate. There was some initial confusion with the office in getting this move scheduled, but they more than made up for it with this great crew. I've used MSJ once before, and both times I've been very happy with the job they did.

This is the third time I've used MSJ. The first two times, everything went perfectly which I the reason I came back. This time, things were not quite the same level of service. On the front end, apparently they have someone new scheduling the moves. Although I spoke to the lady several times, she didn't seem to remember the details of our move. The day before the move I called to confirm, and she did not have the date correct. I asked if everything was set, and she said yes. Surprisingly, she called me later in the afternoon and then said she needed an inventory of our items. I told her we had already discussed that. In fairness, the lady was very nice and I just got the sense that she needed more support. The next day, the crew came called and came out at a time different than we agreed. As with my previous moves with MSJ, the movers were polite and professional. While they worked diligently, the pace was definitely slower than previous moves. One mover seemed to be new and inexperienced. While I specifically requested a piano mover, there were issues on how to move it. Afterwards, we found packing tape on our $15,000 piano that was very difficult to remove. Interestingly, MSJ had previously moved two pianos for us and it went without a hitch. I'm not sure what happened with this move. It was the same exact items that we had moved previously. Perhaps it was just a one time fluke, and they did get the job done. As I mentioned, I had used them twice before, so I expected the same high standard.

Workers were polite and on time. The appointment scheduler didn't understand I wanted packing services, so we were delayed waiting on material. I have a scratched table, a broken end table, and a nicked wall. The driver also failed to return my elevator key. He said he left it with the building maid, but actually just left it in the elevator with her cleaning in the lobby.

The crew (Steven, Andre, Junior) was efficient and thorough. They provided extra cushioning for items for some items. They made sure that all our concerns were addressed. And on the unloading end, they set up the bed and furniture pieces and positioned the boxes in the designated rooms.

I needed a quick move so I called MSJ and my wife spoke to the owner. The owner definitely did not have the best customer service skills and he knew that he was the only one willing to do our job as we called on Friday at 4PM for a Saturday 10AM job. He did come through but he did rub us the wrong way a little. He did send people and arrived on time the first three hour deal was great but the $159/hr thereafter really hurts. We were as prepared as possible and Fernando, Rafael, and Chris did an amazing job. They definitely spent every second doing what they were supposed to do and going above and beyond to protect every piece of furniture. No complaints there. At the end though they do bill in 15min increments ( I wish I would have known) they finished around 3:05PM but by the time the paperwork was being prepared to complete the job it took a few more minutes so I was charged for a 15 interval that at 159/hr is the same at $40 (ouch) that is the only thing that left a bad taste in my mouth but everything else was amazing they are definitely very good at what they do have a clean big truck and did what they said they would do. Would definitely recommend but be careful with the last few minutes. Also I was charged for my bed covers I though it was per bed but they charge you for every cover they use so it was double what I expected I recommend to buy your own.

I'm glad we were able to get you accommodated on such short notice. I do apologize if I seemed curt and a bit less than patient when we were arranging your job late day on that Friday. It is never my wish to make a client any more stressed than a move in general already causes. In this case we were under the gun a bit as it was already beyond normal business hours Friday evening when you called back to decide to book with us for job the following morning, and several things had to be moved around and confirmed on our end to accommodate the last minute request. So again, I do apologize if my tone was less than patient. As so many of our clients can attest, it is not my style or nature to press or rush our clients; we want our clients to feel confident from the get go that they picked the right service provider. Regarding the two billing quandaries you mentioned; -In terms of our 1/4 hr billing procedures, this is of course meant for the client to truly pay for the actual duration of work performed on their behalf. Our leads will typically round up the few minutes completing the quarter hr to not only accommodate the few minutes that it takes to do billing, but more importantly, while billing process is going, we are multi-tasking and the rest of the crew is still technically doing work related to your job as they re-set the truck to its original condition upon arriving by folding all pads and re-setting all other equipment, as well as bagging any and all trash generated from your job such as a good amount of discarded shrink wrap used to protect your belongings. They are also instructed to take last walk around the high traffic areas at the site to grab any trash we may missed, as well to check that no small stray items of yours were left outside the residence. The ideal is that the specific time billed for coincides with our actual departure having just then tied up all loose ends related to the work performed for the client. That said, we will discuss internally the idea of better defining that for our clients both in initially booking, as well as job leads explaining exactly what I mentioned while the work is still actually being performed in the truck. Transparency is important to us, so I appreciate the opportunity to clarify this instance. - Regarding mattress bags, It is our firm policy that we insist that all mattresses and/or box springs are bagged and sealed prior to being transported in our trucks. Especially given heightened hygienic concerns in recent years with used mattresses, this policy is meant to give all of our clients across the board confidence that there will never be any issues of cross contamination from a mattress transported for a previous client. This is the only material we charge for outside of separate packing services. These are reusable covers that the client purchases, and is welcome to fold up and keep for re-use. However, we must insist that all box-springs are sealed individually in the same manner because in terms of hygienic concerns, there is no difference between the mattress and box spring. As you said, had you had time, you might have purchased your own in advance. Our clients are are absolutely welcome to supply our crew with their own bags, and we are happy to use them in leu of ours. That said, we have tried to deliberately establish our price on mattresses bags as within reason of what you might pay elsewhere to make it easy for clients to choose to save the time of searching them out themselves . Great experience from start to finish. As promised when booking, I receive a call from the crew upon them leaving their facility. I spoke with Shawn who was courteous and listed to specific instructions to gain access to the apartment complex as it was not intuitive on a GPS. Shawn, David, and Daniel arrived soon after and introduced themselves before proceeding in a friendly and professional manner. We all did a walk-through of what needed done and the crew got straight to work covering and securing every piece of furniture with blankets before it was moved. The crew worked well together and really took good care of our belongings. When it came time to transfer to the new house, they arrived only minutes after us and again we did a walk-through of where we wanted our things placed. They gladly help with a living room re-configuration at the end and it turned-out to be the one we decided upon...Thanks guys! Never change your professional and careful approach to your job!

It went really well. Took a bit longer to move us back in because of the extra care needed to ensure no damage to stairs and wall. We were very happy with the results. I don't mind the extra time because of the extra care. Asa, Byron and David were courteous, professional and careful. Would use MSJ again!
Description of Work: This was the second time using MSJ to move our household goods. We used them 7 months ago to move out of our home while it was remodeled and then to move us back. Moving back into our remodeled hime required extra care and diligence since all walls and stairs were brand new finished and painted. Asa, Byron and David were excellently in taking care not to damage the walls and stairs. They also took are to wrap our furniture so that no damage occurred. I initially purchased 3 men 3 hrs and the long truck. Total time was 8 hrs.

I would strongly recommend MSJ delivery. We had a full day planned, and the team came through for us despite an initial scheduling snafu. The moving crew were extremely careful, professional, and even gave us some tips with the arrangement of our furniture which was quite appreciated. We are very glad we chose this company, and will definitely call them back again in the future.
