Description of Work: He did the outline for the major landscaping work that was done by Walton Landscaping. It took him a couple of months to finish the outline.

+ -1 moreWe called Steve because of the positive reviews on Angie's list for jobs both large and small and selected him because of his presentation. He is refreshingly professional and personable. He met with us several times, taking pictures and discussing our needs and budget. He made changes to the plans at least 3 times at our request as our ideas changed. He recommended several landscape contractors and we selected one that did a very good job for us. The contractor worked from Steve's plans without incident because of the detail of the plans. Throughout the project, Steve checked in with us and on the work being done, including two trips to our home. He also intervened for us when we had one major problem with the contractor resulting in a remedy to our satisfaction after the contractor had been unresponsive to us. Steve is not only a creative designer, he is also sensitive to our desires and budget needs. He really seemed to care about our satisfaction with the project.
Description of Work: We wanted a complete demolish and redo of our front and back yard landscaping, hardscape, and balcony. Steve, a landscape architect, designed the entire project for us.

He did take the time to give me some suggestions, do a quick sketch and gave me some referrals on companies that could potentially do the project. He was very helpful, took time to give me free ideas and direction, I much appreciated it!

+ -1 moreI picked Steve after reading his reviews on Angie's List, where multiple reviewers had commented on his promptness, responsiveness to their needs, and general good attitude. Having just finished our work with Steve, we couldn't agree more. He is a joy to collaborate with. He truly listened to our ideas, incorporating some of our favorite existing plants with a beautiful array of new ones that all took into account our desire to have a water-saving tropical landscape with plenty of interest. And as we are putting most of our available money into our remodel and addition, we specifically asked him to design a plan that could be implemented in stages, and he accomplished this. Additionally, as has been noted before, Steve is always prompt to meetings (in fact, he often arrives early) and is quick to return phone calls. He always kept us well apprised of his process. You should strongly consider working with him. We're delighted with the plan and can't wait to see it installed.
Description of Work: They did a full landscape design plan for our 6000 sq ft. lot in Pacific Beach, including grading, hardscape, lighting, and of course plants.

+ -1 moreI found Steve in the GSDBA book and then looked him up on Angie's list and went to his website. Glowing reviews from everyone. I called and left a message which was returned that day. Steve came the following week to meet with me. I bought a 1920 craftsman home in North Park and it was in complete disarray. I knew I wanted certain specimen trees and also a pool (odd requests for the area) so I was hoping he wouldn't laugh at me and run away. He didn't. Instead he listened to my requests and in short order provided me with two completely different approaches and let me mull it over. After some thought we spoke again and in about a week I had a final plan that was above and beyond what I expected. He designed fencing, pool/spa, hardscape, plantings front and back and even helped with the exterior color of my house. He also worked with another designer/GC dealing with the remodel/addition to my home to make sure it was a seamless transition inside and out. I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Steve designed a complete reworking of the exterior space of my home including new hardscape, landscape, fencing, and pool/spa design.

+ -1 moreSteve returned my initial telephone call within one hour. He scheduled a day the very next week to discuss what I needed and to look at the outside areas surrounding the house. I told him I needed a "dog friendly" backyard, I wanted to save water, attract birds, and I wanted to be able to do this in an economical way. I also told him I enjoyed plants and trees, but I had very little knowledge of how to plant them and care for them. (I needed easy maintenance plants.) He completely understood my needs and within a week he had a draft version to show me. He came to my home, showed me his draft plan, and made notes on a couple of minor changes that I suggested. Within another week he had the final version ready for me. He gave me four copies of the plan which included a legend giving the Latin names, common names and sizes of the plants/trees that he suggested. One of the plans was color coded. He also gave me a list of 4 landscape contractors he recommended.
Description of Work: Steve created a landscape plan for the front and back yards, and the steep slope behind the fence in the backyard. He included the following: Replace or augment plantings at the front of the house and in the island beds around the base of two palm trees. Add limited plantings to low light covered entry area. Create a digging pit with sand for the dogs to enjoy. Removed citrus tree and added other new trees to the backyard which would promote shade, be drought tolerant and have non-evasive root systems. Add new small beds at the front of the new fence to add color and interest to the yard. Provide new plantings to small bed areas off the garage and master bedroom, and place fountain within these plants. Design a new patio cover or pergola to cast shade for bedroom. Use low maintenance, non-toxic plants which would also attract birds. Replace lawn with hybrid Bermuda grass and provide a new edging treatment to contain the lawn. Add new ground-covers to back slope to avoid erosion.

I met with him and gave him an idea of the things that my husband and I wanted in the design of the landscape, which was planting new trees and shrubs for curb appeal, as well as the possibility of moving one tree from one area to another. There was also a small area where we needed to continue our existing sprinkler system out a little further. No new lawn is required, just the design placement of trees and shrubs. Steve was able to provide a design layout that we were both very pleased with. Although Steve does only the landscape design, he was able to recommend a couple of Landscape companies for the job.
Description of Work: Steve Letz designed our front yard for replanting with low maintenance trees and shrubs for attractive curb appeal.

+ -1 moreThe owner, Steve Letz, met with us on at least three or four occasions to obtain our input and present us with his ideas and drawings for our landscape design. He was responsive, attentive, punctual, extremely fast working and very easy to work with. His work included both an irrigation and lighting plan in addition to the hardscape and landscape design. He left us with four copies of his very detailed, color plan and a list of landscape contractors so that we could get our project bid. He is very knowledgeable about all aspects of landscape design and is a very pleasant person to work with. I would highly recommend Letz Design to anyone and will definitely use him in the future. He is also available for follow up site inspection and offered to help us get our project bid. I can't say enough good things about my experience with Steve Letz and his company.

We are a little sad that the design part is over since we enjoyed working with Steve, but are fairly confident that with his recommendations for landscape contractors, that we can move forward with confidence knowing that we can still call on Steve if we have any further questions.
