Description of Work: Complete kitchen upgrade floor to ceiling for home built in 1958. |Everything went as planned and at cost estimated. A few changes on my behalf.....all went well. Knowledgable , informative , flexible, I was always kept in loop as to what was happening. Whenever I texted I received a response within the hour usually within minutes. |At no time did I feel I was in the dark or uninformed. |I will be using his services for future bathroom fixes and upgrades.

Description of Work: Installation of porcelain floor tiling in in all common areas 1,000+ sq. ft., Remodel and tile guest bathroom including installation of pocket door, cabinets and also tiling of custom designed floor to ceiling fireplace. Overall the work went very well. In in hindsight, I would have been more attentive to ordering correct amount of tiling as short estimate of materials needed caused some delay. Also, It was necessary for me to do daily quality inspection and if needed, request corrections, which they were happy to do without request for additional payment. Mark and his employees were friendly, respectful and wanted to make sure we were satisfied with the job.

Response from Halpert Construction
Actually we made an appointment and I was on time and came to visit them. After the appointment they kept calling and asking to change this and change that; they would do a little bit here and do a little bit there and I responded a couple of more times. Then unfortunately I got food poisoning and missed about a week of work; and during this time instead of calling me back they just sent this message saying that I was an F grade. I don't understand how people can be this ungrateful and bitter. How about a follow up phone call or text.

Description of Work: Mark was very professional throughout the process. Arrived on time for initial estimate and for the work itself. We had ceramic tile installed in 2 bathrooms. Quality of installation was excellent, clean-up was also excellent. Mark kept us advised as to all aspects of the job timeline. We would not hesitate to use Halpert Contraction again in the future.

Very well - I'll be hiring Mark for new projects as we save money for them.
Description of Work: Mark Halpert (owner/general contractor) has performed a variety of jobs for us after we bought our house (built in 1970 and hadn't been touched since :)) in January of 2011. He was referred to us by our real estate agent who uses him personally and professionally and we must say that he's exceeded the high expectations we had after listening to her rave about him. There are a few things that really set Mark apart from other contractors. First, Mark gives a price and sticks by it and it's normally based off a $50 per hour rate (cheap for a licensed/insured contractor and he works FAST), however he will meet or beat industry standard pricing as well. For example, the laminate flooring he installed for us was done at $2 a square foot which is the same you would pay lumber liquidators or home depot installers but you get a licensed contractor to do the work (FYI: he always does the work either himself or along with a 'helper' he regularly uses). Second, he was willing to do a part of a job for us and let us finish it to save money. For example, he framed out, backerboarded, plumbed, and sealed a new custom shower and basically made it 'tile ready' for us saving us a couple thousand in labor on tiling. Third, he was always willing to give us advice on projects we were 'DIY'-ing and let me borrow a tool when I was replacing angle stops on the copper water pipes. Mark is a pleasure to work with, totally trustworthy (he had a key to our house for a couple months), has a good sense of humor, punctual, and a really hard worker. Over the course of an eight week total house remodel project we worked with three other service providers Below are some highlights and costs of the jobs he did for us. 1. Install new laminate flooring throughout the house (2 dollars a square foot, 25 dollars per stair). This was the most recent project he did for us and it was a last minute emergency. We planned to do this ourselves but ran out of time (we basically had 8 weeks to gut the house we bought before our lease expired and had five days to go and it just wasn't happening with everything else we needed to do to make the place livable). Mark rearranged his schedule, came back in two days, and knocked the job out in three days (about 1500 square feet). He didn't need to use transition steps between rooms and negotiated our horribly uneven floors perfectly. 2. Tiled the kitchen ($700). About 150 square feet of tile he did under the same circumstances as above. Tile came out square and he worked around our new cabinets really well. 3. Shower/Bathroom ($2400). Built custom shower including new plumbing (minus the tile), the framing, hardibacker, hot mop (a tar based waterproof membrane which he hired out and charged us cost: $400), moved sewer line and water supply line because we knocked out a wall to expand the bathroom and wanted to move the toilet, and did new plumbing for the vanity which was originally located just outside the bathroom. Also removed the old water lines and vents for the vanity and probably a few more associated things I'm forgetting. 4. Popcorn ceiling texture removal. This was the first job he did for us (2 dollars a square foot including removal, skip trowel texture, and paint). We were going to DIY this and just pay him to texture after we removed it but his removal only fee was going to be 70 cents a square foot so we let him and his helper have it - done quickly, worked around my co-worker's dad who is a semi-retired electrician, and the job came out great. Oh, I almost forgot, originally hired a guy off Craigslist who took $300 from me as a 'deposit', did two no-shows, and then never returned my calls. I did get in touch with him once when I called from my work number; after google-ing his name and police record I decided to let it go and now you know reason number 1 why I'm on angies list. 5. Stucco repair. ($650) For this he brought in his helper, Alex, who does a lot of stucco work. Since I already mentioned reason 1 I'm on angies list I'll share reason 2. Mark quoted me 600 dollars per window I wanted installed (including all the finishing work) but I was certain I could get it cheaper, which I did, albeit by hiring a lunatic from craigslist who forgot to order windows, broke a window, ordered the wrong size windows, freaked out on my fiance, exhibited signs of schizophrenia and/or methamphetamine use, liked wearing saggy shorts with no underwear, and really enjoyed rubbing caulk from fingers on the side of my house. Anyway, the windows we installed were different sizes than the ones we replaced (by choice) so it left holes in the stucco. Mark's stucco guy (for which he doesn't charge a contractor's fee) matched the texture and color perfectly in three days (there were three holes totaling 30 square feet or so) which includes the drying time between the three layers of stucco required. Mark also did a temporary fix on similar holes in wood siding that I plan to stucco over in a year or so for $300 (T1-11 siding). 6. Drywall texture. ($300) We did a ton of drywall work ourselves and he spayed 1/2 the house with new texture. It turned out nice and he blended it in well with the other texture. Anyway, Mark is the only contractor I trust, and since I provided the backstory you can see why :) I won't submit a negative report on the window guy because when I met him in a police station parking lot to give him $75 for the replacement window HE broke and extra $75 he decided I owed him (he did produce a contract without my signature on it that stated I owed him $150 extra though LOL) he agreed never to contact me again and I agreed not write any negative reviews (restraining orders don't work against the crazy ones) but since you read this far and I discovered he's on angies list with one good review (he probably wrote) I'll say this: If a 5 foot 4 inch leprechaun troll looking creature named Curtis shows up at your door to install windows or doors, just say no and call Mark.
