He called ahead, came on time, fixed my old machine within 20 mins and was gone. He was friendly and helpful, with good advice. Will definitely use this company again.

 + -1 moreRepairman arrived when he said he would. He had the tools and knowledge to get right to the problem, a cold air circulating fan with blades loose on the shaft. He quickly repaired the fan, replaced all parts, and informed me how to set the freezer controls properly. The repairman was quick, efficient, knowledgeable with no extra charges for parts I didn't need.
Description of Work: Diagnose and repair an upright freezer that wasn't keeping the food cold enough.

 + -1 moreAxel Gormsen's work is professional in every respect. He is very knowledgeable, works quickly, and cleans up perfectly, He's now our permanent appliance repairs guy.
Description of Work: Axel (owner) came to our home twice, once to evaluate our appliance issues and second to perform the repairs. One service call charge. In the end his diagnosis of our problems was spot on. He brought the correct parts and his work was professional all the way. Our appliances (double oven and wine captain) now work perfectly. We were pleased that he priced the parts at the rates we found online.

 + -1 moreAfter having called a different appliance company on your list and leaving a detailed message and waiting for 2 1/2 hours before they even bothered returning my call...I decided to call Gormsen Appliance and am I glad I did. Heather was the most pleasant person on the phone I have ever come across in appliance repair. She asked me the make and model number of my dryer, what the problem was and had a technician over in 2 days...could have been sooner, but I could not be available before then. My window of time was 12-3pm and Jose arrived at 1:00 and within 10-15 minutes knew it was the idler and replaced it with one from his truck. Out the door at 1:45 and dryer runs great. Will definitely call them again, will be either for my washer or my fridge (or BOTH) cause both are acting up! Great experience and love having Angie's list as my "go to source."

Description of Work: Picked up a commonly used part for my broken gas dryer ("gas coils") from this little gem of an appliance store in the heart of PB. Love the personal attention, mom and pop feel of the local neighborhood store and bend-over-backwards type of customer service that you don't find very often anymore - anywhere. DIY ers: You could go to a "top-of-the-google-search-list" internet parts store and wait 3 days for your part, or you could drive down the street and support your local small business and have your part the same day. Love it!

 + -1 moreWork went very well, from quotation to installation. Service techs are the finest I've seen. Company response, attitude, and business ethics are steller. Highly, highly recommended.
Description of Work: This service involved an installation of an exhaust-fan assembly in a GE in-wall GE Micro/Oven Combo unit, with the Micro on top and the electric oven on the bottom. Gormsen was the THIRD service company we tried. The first two took our "estimate deposit" fee and then stated the unit as unfixable, or parts not available, stayed in the home less than 20 minutes, and kept the non-funadable $50 which was to be applied toward the repair. Having been stung the first time, when the second "estimate" claimed the part was unavailable, we intervened, bought the part from GE Parts, and then called their bluff. After much haggling, that second company addmitted it DID NOT want to do the job, citing "Too much labor!!" Weeks later the refund check finally arrived. Dealing with Gormsen was an entirely different experience. Heather was effiecient and courteous, lined up the service date, and had the company President call ahead to discuss everything. He also was excellent, did NOT nix the job, and must have determined that an elite service team (of two men) was needed to do the job right. The team was here 1 hour and 15 minutes, did a perfect job. The Micro works like new. This wall unit is 22 years old and to replace the entire unit would have meant throwing out a perfectly good conventional oven and spending $2500 for a new one. Outlet stores still wanted over $1800 for blemished units. The replacement part was $180 and was also part of the lower oven self-cleaning cycle. By spending less than $350, we avoided a $2800 expense of a new unit with installation. Needless to say, Gormsen is the only appliance repair shop we will ever use. And we recommend them to all San Diego County residents. Good Show, Gormsen. A++ on all fronts!!

 + -1 moreThis company is wonderful. I have used them 3x for a dishwasher, and 2x for washing Machines. This time it was the gas range. I told them the error. They asked for the model number. I gave it. They looked up the part and found it no longer was made. This was done all over the phone. They told me that it was good to call to see if these parts were made. It saved time and money for everyone. I highly recommend them. They are honest people and won't charge you for looking up a part to see if an appliance is repairable.

 + -1 moreHe went way beyond the level of expected service. He was great, even giving me back 4.20 out of his own wallet when he forgot to give me my 5% Angie's discount. He could have told me I needed a new part to the tune of 175.00 but he didn't. He didn't need to spend the time cleaning the inside of my washer, but he did. I really appreciated his help.
Description of Work: I called on April 23rd for front loading washer repair. The repairman was able to come out the next day. He came to check that my washer was spinning correctly and to help with an odor and mildew problem just inside the washer. He was on time and called before he came. He checked out my washer and didn't find anything mechanically wrong with it.. He cleaned around the opening and vacuumed the built up lint that was causing the odor. He also sold me a package of cleaner that would help my washer smell better inside.

 + -1 moreI called several Appliance Repair places on Angie's List and the only one who would tell me how much the repair and part itself would cost was Heather at "Gormsen Appliance Company " ! She was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable regarding the job. She had me read the serial number to her and quoted the exact price of the need part as well as there service call price. She set an appointment for me and said I would receive a call before he arrived. Today Russ the service repair man called me with a 30 min lead call, and arrived on time as promised. He was neat and clean in uniform ( a true professional) and went right to work. It did turn out to be way more complicated then I had thought it would be. (I was very glad I did not attempt to do this myself.) He had all the parts needed and when he was finished he correctly adjusted the dishwasher so it was level and the parts would last longer without so much extra strain on the door. Then gave me the 5% Angie's List coupon price. I Highly recommend "Gormsen Appliance" as they are worth every dime I spent !

 + -1 moreI had someone from SDGE out to check my appliances. He told me that I needed new igniter for oven, and suggested 1-800 Appliance. When I called they told me they did not service my make and model oven and suggested I try La Mesa Appliance. After checking Angie's List I decided against contacting them, and called Gormsen Appliance instead, as was highly rated. Service was excellent. Technician had the correct part and replaced it quickly. Also told me of 5%-off coupon (I somehow hadn't noticed it on this website!) so I was able to print and use it. Now my oven starts right away and I'm ready to bake cookies!
Description of Work: My O'Keefe and Merritt oven needed new igniter.

He was an extremely nice person, and took time to talk with me and helped move the items in and out of the freezer itself. I could not be more pleased with the service.
Description of Work: Our standing freezer was not keeping things cold. The water line had gotten clogged and ice had built up preventing proper air flow.

 + -1 moreJose was very knowledgeable and helpful. Explained how to care for my Maytag dryer purchased in 1987 so it will last even longer than the 24 years it has already been in service.
Description of Work: Dryer was heating intermittently. Jose diagnosed the problem immediately and replaced the coils that controled the gas flow. Instructed me how to remove the front panel so I could clean out the lint every year. It hadn't been serviced in quite some time so had a lot of lint everywhere, which he vacuumed up. Checked the belt while he was here and we decided to replace it, good thing since when he took it off it was almost ready to break.

 + -1 moreThis is the company you should use. It could not have gone better. From the time we called Gormsen with our problem to completion of the work was just over an hour. Johnny, the service man, was here within 15 minutes. He diagnosed the problem as a faulty automatic defrost valve. He installed a new valve and had the refrigerator up and running. He then carefully cleaned off the interior walls of the freezer and refrigerator and advised us on how to maintain the unit for best perfomance. We highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Our refrigerator was not freezing or cooling. Johnny diagnosed the problem, replaced a part, cleaned out the refrigerator and freezer walls, and advised us on how to maintain the refrigerator for best performance.

 + -1 moreI called at 8:30 AM and said my tenant's refrigerator was running very warm, she was afraid her food would spoil, and she could only be home until 2:30 PM. They called back immediately, said they could be there between 12 and 2, arrived at 2:00, finished by 2:20. My tenant was especially pleased because she said there was only a little space behind the refrigerator to work in and the repair man was very thin so he could fit in the space.

Very competent and knowledgable. Vacuumed around the fan. (Pet fur) Had the part with him that needed replacing. Screwed on a plate that was falling off the dishwasher, free of charge. Excellent experience.

 + -1 moreOur (relatively) new refrigerator was leaking water. I saw the recommendations in Angie's List and decided to call Gormsen Appliance Company. An appointement was set up. The repairman, John, arrived on promptly. He knew immediately what the problem was and fixed it. He was very knowledgeable and professional. A drain was frozen and he patiently removed the ice and frost. All necessary repairs were made and we were very pleased. It's so nice not to have to wade through puddles of water on our kitchen floor anymore! Would definitely call again if needed.

 + -1 moreJose was great. He came when he said he would, explained everything he needed to do, and exactly how much it would cost. He worked fast and cleaned up after himself. In fact, after he left I realized that while he was checking to be sure the machine was working, he laundered the towels I had given him to clean up the leak! What a guy!
Description of Work: I called Gormsen because my Washing Machine suddenly leaked heavily. They sent a technician, Jose, the same day. He took the machine apart and determined that it had actually been leaking for a long time and had finally burst a serious hole. He explained that it would be necessary to replace the pump, and he explained that because it had leaked so long he could not guarantee that the problem wouldn't return but that it should last a year or more. I felt he gave me enough information to make an informed decision about whether to repair or replace the machine and I felt comfortable opting to repair. He said he would have to order the part to be shipped in, but it would be over-nighted. He returned the next day part in hand and finished the job.

 + -1 moreThe repair man showed up on time and diagnosed the leaky dishwasher was caused by a worn gasket. He came back the next day and installed the gasket. Over the weekend we discovered the dishwasher was still leaking. The repairman returned and found that the leak was coming from within the interior of the door. He dissassembled the door and found the steam vent was clogged with calcium causing water to backup int the door. He took the vent apart and cleaned out the calcium in it and the rest of the door. Since the gasket didn't fix the problem he said there would be no charge. Very fair and good job. Next day! the clothes washer would not work. We called and the same repairman returned. Found that the door switch had been broken off. Returned the next day and installed a new switch. The washer was back on line. Very satisfied and will continue to use them for our appiances.
Description of Work: 1. Dishwasher leak. Replaced door gasket and disassembled door to clean calcium buildup which was causing water to be redirected and to leak. 2. Replaced door safety switch on wash machine

Description of Work: Our two year old Whirlpool refrigerator developed a water leak every time it went through the defrost cycle.Johnnie discovered that the condensation pan was cracked.He taped the pan with aluminum tape and re-installed it. He ordered a new pan, and replaced it a week later.
