Brian gave an estimate over the phone, showed up on time, moved the lights. Came back the next day to drywall and paint. Charged LESS than his estimate. He was fast, neat and friendly. Cannot tell that the ceiling was patched. Excellent work. Highly recommend!
Description of Work: Two pendant lights were moved; two holes were repaired with drywall and painting.

He installed an electrical oven and stove and a vent that goes across. I think he also fixed a couple of outlets in the kitchen. He was friendly, helpful, and courteous and we have referred him to the others.

Power was lost in the master bed/bath area when my wife was getting ready for work in the morning. I called Brian, who told me something to do to troubleshoot on my own. However, I was not able to solve the problem. He worked me in for a visit in the afternoon and quickly solved the issue.

After we fired our last Electrician, Brian came in and got the electrical going almost right away. He came in and found all the problems and fixed any issues that were left undone. Without his help, would not be in our house. This was our first remodel and we were in over our heads. It gave us a great sense of relief to be dealing with someone that was professional and willing to deal with our unorganized schedules. Brian and his crew fixed all of the unseen issues that our previous handyman had created. The end result was outstanding. We had several quotes, but Brian's was the lowest.
Description of Work: Toned all the wiring, installed or relocated countless lights, outlets and switches and is preparing us for a service upgrade

The work took 11 hrs, in line with Brian's estimate. He charged time and materials at a very reasonable rate, providing the receipt he paid for materials. He didn't ask for money up front. He spent quite a bit of time with us going over the work to be done when we asked for an estimate. He was right on time (estimate visit, and the two days work was done).
Description of Work: Brian did some repair work on our home wiring, finishing a few lingering details we had at the end of remodeling. He also installed some outdoor wiring, outlets, lighting, and fan.

Brian arrived right on time. As soon as he walked into our garage and looked at the electrical outlet that wasn't working, he looked around and spotted a switch that my husband and I weren't even aware of. He asked me to flip the switch while he tested the outlet with a device and the outlet was live. The entire visit took less than 5 minutes, and he didn't charge me for it.
Description of Work: The power went out in our garage. Brian found the problem within seconds.

Brian Wathen responded quickly to my call, scheduled the work for a few days later and then arrived on time. I had purchased the lights, so we quickly agreed where the lights would be installed, and then he set to work. He worked fast and used really good judgment in the process. He had to cut holes for the lights in both rooms, then did an excellent job of patching the holes, and even cleaned up the drywall dust before he left. He moved one light switch and changed another outlet so I could turn on the lights where I wanted. Honestly, he did such a great job of patching and texturing the drywall, even without painting it you can't see where the work was done. AMAZING. I am very pleased with all the work he did for me.
Description of Work: Installed recessed lights in my office and den, moved one switch and changed an outlet. Work included installation of lights, running wires, crawling in my attic, patching and texturing drywall.

By the hour should have been my first clue that he didn't know what he was doing but wanted me to pay for his on the job training. I shouldn't have gone along with it but I wanted the TV hung by Thanksgiving. He put the TV bracket up, painted the wall, and got paint on the mount (sloppy work). I didn't say anything because I was hoping it wouldn't be visible, but it is. The cables were to go inside the wall and come out as close to the existing electrical outlet as possible. Bryan had cables coming out directly under shutters being extremely visible. I told Bryan that I didn't like where they were and he said he could move them but it would cost me. I agreed to pay him more and he was going to fix it the following afternoon. I was at home until 1 pm and he still hadn't shown up. He called at 2:30 saying he had finished moving the cables. It would have been impossible for him to cut holes, pull the cable through, patch, texture and paint in an hour. It takes a while for texturing to dry enough to paint. Rather than patching the whole he put a plate on the wall (with screws) to cover it and the cables still weren't close enough to the corner and outlet. When I questioned this he yelled at me saying I had bought the wrong length HD cable. Bryan returned to my house 2 days before Thanksgiving and was going to patch/paint, and install the componate shelves. Parts were missing for the shelves so I went to Frys to get what he needed, When I returned home Bryan was gone but left a message saying he wouldn't be back. This was a horrible thing to do since I was having company for Thanksgiving. It was impossible to find someone to finish his work.
Description of Work: Bryan gave me an estimate for $300 to $400, but the day work was to start he said he would have to charge me by the hour because he didn't know how long it would take him.

Response from Brian Wathen Electrician
My goal is to create customers and keep them for life. As you can see from other customer reports, I have a great rapport with most of my customers. 95%% of my work is from repeat customers. I work quickly, at a reasonable rate, and together we solve any problems. I feel my bill was fair - for installing 2 flat screen TVs, moving and re-hanging a huge antique mirror, patching and texturing 15 holes, purchasing paint and painting. This customer was very hard to work for. She didn't keep agreements, she missed 3 appointments, kept adding work and changing her mind, pushed me to work for free, and became verbally abusive. I tried to make her happy until it became clear her dissatisfaction was manipulative. She original requested an estimate for the installation of ONE flat screen TV. I estimated it would cost $400-$500 for installing the TV, including patching 4-5 holes (not including painting). I told her I charge by the hour and that she would need to purchase the TV, the bracket and a 16 foot HDMI cable (which is the longest available without custom order). I explained that I didn't know how many holes would be required to conceal the wires, because I can't see through walls to know what obstacles might lie hidden there. When I arrived I saw that she had purchased the wrong size HDMI cable. I informed her it wouldn't go all the way to corner, where she wanted it. She said, "Get it over as far as you can." That morning she asked me if I would also run wires for an already hanging master bedroom flat screen TV, and to move and hang a HUGE antique mirror. We agreed she would come home around 1pm, but she never showed up. I called her several times to discuss the location issues resulting from her short HDMI cable - she didn't return any of my calls. Running the wires for the bedroom TV amounted to work equivalent to a complete installation - taking down the TV and bracket, running power and cables inside the wall behind the TV, and then patching the holes. In good faith, I completed all the work we had agreed to in the morning, and did some additional patching and touch-up painting where the mirror had once hung. I received a call from the customer that evening. She was upset about location of the HDMI cable. I informed her it would her cost more to relocate the cable, because I had already patched and textured the holes. I told her I wanted her to be happy, and offered to give her a couple hours free. She agreed to have me come relocate the cable. I completed the work she requested and gave her 2 free hours. She got frustrated when a component shelving unit she had purchased didn't have all its parts and became increasingly verbally abusive with me, even though the problem was in no way my fault. At that point, I decided we could no longer work together. The bottom line is: I have lots of experience installing flat screen TVs. I skillfully did all the work I was hired to do, at a fair price, and gave her extra time and services until she became abusive.

He came on time for the first appt but after that, it was a little hit and miss. He eventually gets there to do the work but sometimes it's not right when he says. He advertises his prices at a lower rate but by the time he gets done with the estimate, he's not that much less. I had a concern because the dimmer was hot to the touch and he never did show up to help me with it.
Description of Work: This electrician installed can lights in my kitchen and living room along with dimmer switches. He also replaced all of the electrical wiring and installed a new electrical box for the kitchen. He also installed under-the-cabinet lighting.

Brian is a good, independent "fix-it" person. He forgot our appointment, saying his truck had broken, but did respond quickly when I called and came that afternoon instead of morning. He did not do the final finishing touches on one light switch, which requires filling in a gap with caulk. He said he forgot his caulking gun. I know it seems like an easy thing to do, but it would have been nice if he had done it. On the other hand, his price was reasonable and I was pleased with the work he did on our light switches.
Description of Work: Replaced several switch covers in kitchen, tightened and checked the insides for safety. He also advised us on water pooling in one of our sprinklers and on replacing a medicine cabinet in our bathroom.

Brian was great. He returned my phone call right away and arranged to come by for an estimate. In addition, he recommended that I do something a little different than what I had planned - and I'm glad he did. We went with his recommendation and it looks much better than I would have thought. He had to cut some holes in the wall to feed the wiring, but did an excellent job patching the drywall. He was very neat and finished the work a lot faster than I anticipated. I'd definitely call Brain again for any electrical work!

It was a two part project. The first part required that he come and measure and help us select the correct product. The second was installation. He was easy to work with and there were no problems with him or the installation of our fan. We are very happy with the model he suggested and were happy he helped us with the selection process also.
Description of Work: We needed a whole house fan installed in our two story home. Brian came out and gave us the specs for the fan, we ordered it and then called him to install it once it arrived. He was prompt in returning phone calls and was busy with other projects and it was the week before Christmas when we first called. He offered to come sooner if we were in desperate need but our project was not urgent and so we were okay with waiting a week or two. He called us back to make an appointment and was prompt. He estimated the job would take 4-5 hours but was done in 2. He cleaned everything up and left the extra weather stripping with us.

Brian was prompt in answering my call and giving an estimate. His quote was very reasonable. Brian performed this large and tedious job quickly and skillfully while making sure that he did not cause any damage in the attic filled with various pipes and cables. He also helped me purchase most of the materials from his supplier at no extra cost. Brian was also very friendly, considered my suggestions, and eager to answer all questions I had during the job. I cannot be happier in my experience working with Brian.
Description of Work: I replaced 38 recessed light housings on the second story with the Insulation Contact (IC) rated, Air-Tight housings. Most of the housings are accessible from the attic, but some can only be accessed from the ceiling. I also installed a gable vent with an indoor switch and added 3 attic lights in the main attic (2) and garage attic (1). Finally, I needed help in troubleshooting a yard low-voltage lighting which were only partially working. The project cost does not include the recessed housings and the gable fan.

Brian is the reason I like Angie's List. I found him on the list and hired him, about a year and a half ago, to install some kitchen lighting. I liked his work so well, I have had him back to work on numerous other projects. Brian works fast, offers good advice, and does quality work. One time I hired him to do some minor repair to the sprinkler system, and as we were walking the perimeter of the house I noticed a faucet leaking. We soon realized it was a significant problem and he rearranged his schedule so he could shut off the water, repair the faucet and get water back on before my teenager was even awake. He does beautiful drywall repair when the job has required cutting into or replacing the drywall. We couldn't be happier (approximate cost is a guess. I haven't really kept track of all the jobs and costs).
Description of Work: ELECTRICAL: Installed 4 pendants & 11 recessed lights, 2 ceiling fans, and an in-room air conditioner; created a dedicated circuit and ran all new wiring as required for the air conditioner. IRRIGATION: Repaired sprinklers, sprinkler controller, advised re: Irrigation systems. PLUMBING: major repair to broken outdoor faucet; minor repairs to toilets. HANDYMAN: Built custom shelving; patched drywall and stucco after completing all electrical and plumbing repairs/installations,

This turned out very well. Brian gave us an accurate estimate, bought excellent fixtures for us, helped determine ideal placement so light would fall exactly where we needed it, and shadows and glare wouldn't fall where it would be a problem. He worked fast and tidied up when the job was finished. We're glad we waited for him to be available to do the job. This is the second time we've hired this contractor to work in our home.
