Very well. Please see previous entry.
Description of Work: Our 9 year old Kitchenaid dishwasher stopped working. Rich showed up punctually and proceeded to determine the problem. He spent about 20-30 minutes testing various things and decided that it was probably the electronic panel. He said he could order the part and come back to replace it. I payed nothing for the first visit. His wife, Susan, called with the price, $250 including labor. We decided to go ahead. Rich showed up puntually for the second appointment and installed the panel. Unfortunately, the problem turned out to be not only the panel but also the circuit board inside which would have added another $300 to the repair. Not worth it for an old machine. We ended up paying Rich only his $65 call out fee. A very positive experience. We would use him again.

Wen I called in I was given a date two days later. That morning I was called and given a window of arrival times. Mr. Galetta arrived on the dot, listened to the symptoms (and my concerns about vertical venting causing the problem), explained how he diagnosed the problem, and told me how much it would be and why a new dryer would not be necessary and that the vertical venting was working. He then replaced the defective part.
Description of Work: My dryer was not heating. Mr. Galetta explained what could cause this, diagnosed the problem and replaced the heating coils.

Our clothes dryer was not warming up much, even after a few hours in the dryer the clothes were not dry. I called to schedule an appointment, but the person I talked to told me what the problem was over the phone -- the flap on our dryer vent was plugged up, I unplugged it and the dryer started working again. I was not charged for their diagnosis of the problem.

My dryer wasn't heating. I called, and got an appointment on the day that I requested. Rich showed up during the 2 hour time window I was given. He diagnosed the problem right away, it was fixed within fifteen or twenty minutes. He explained every step to me fully, showed me the broken part, and answered all my questions. This is the way an appliance repair call should go.

I had a similar problem some years ago and the technicians from another company spent hours trying to find the cause. This time Rick showed up exactly when promised, diagnosed the problem almost instantly, and added a spare part that not only solved the problem but make it less likely to reoccur. In addition to being impressively knowledgeable, he is personable and easy to work with and is a good listener. I recommend him very highly.

We are a little out of his territory, but after reading reviews on Angie's list, and some begging, Rich was kind enough to schedule a time to visit our home. He is a great technician. He immediately zeroed in on the problem, and in one visit he had our dryer running again. I highly recommend Rich! And I would much rather support a small, motivated, family owned business, than go with one of the bigger firms.

I bought a dishwasher @ Sears & paid them $149 for installation for my house in Foster City. The contractor Sears hired tried to upsell me additional service. I found C & A Brown company @ Aggie's List & called them. They were polite & knew what they were talking about. I contracted with them for the installation. They did a satisfactory job on the scheduled date for $145. I'm happy & will use them in the future.

My Matag clothes dryer was making some unusual noises during the drying cycle. Not knowing who to call I first thought about getting the phone book and looking throuugh the yellow pages. Then I remembered that I am a member of Angie's List so I started looking for a large appliance repair peson on Angoe's website. I found the C & R Brown Co. which had some very good reccomenations and gave them a call. The lady that answered the phone was very friendly and said they were very busy and would not be able to make a sevice call for about a week. She asked some important questions about the dryer and gave me a date for service and said she would call me in the morning of the agreed date to give me the time the technition would arrive, She called as promisied and said the the technicion "Rich" would arrive between 9 and 10 o'clock. Rich arrived at about 9:15. He was an extreemly pleasant person and went right to work. He diagnosed the problem within one minute. Rich explained the problem and the function of the parts that needed to be replaced. He said that he had the required replacement parts in his truck. Rich removed the defective parts and installed the new ones in less than one half hour, After putting the dryer back together he tested all the functions and everrthing checked out ok.He explained the waratees on the parts and gave me a bill for $138.78, It was a pleasure doing business with C & A Brown Co. Rich was very cheerful and polite and left the work area cleaner than he found it. I thought his bill for parts anf labor was very fair. I was prepared to pay a lot more. The lady on the phone (Rich;s wife) had a bubbleing personality and was most helpful in scheduling the service call. The entire experience with the C & R Brown Co. was very pleasant. I would definately call them again and reccomend them to anyone for appliance service. D.K. Belmont, Ca

Richard Galletta arrived at my house, on time, and was pleasant and courteous. (He took a few minutes to greet my dog, who tends to be scared of newcomers) He explained what he was going to do, and after inspection of the appliance, he explained what was needed. I was pleased that I had decided to have the appliance repaired, instead of buying a new one at this time.

Our washing machine started making a knocking noise during the agitation cycle. We called C & A Brown to schedule someone to see what the problem was. Susan, the scheduler, called to let us know when Rich would be coming out to fix it, and he showed up right on time. Rich immediately diagnosed the problem and fixed it. He also improved the performance of our dryer. We will definitely use C & A Brown again!

I had a dishwasher that wasn't draining properly and a gas clothes dryer that wasn't drying properly. Rich arrived on time and was very thorough and friendly. He ran the dishwasher through a full cycle and and inspected the motor and seals. He found that everything was working properly but had suggestions for me to troubleshoot. For the gas dryer he cleaned out the filter and cleaned the blower, duct and filter housing and he cleaned the outdoor exhaust. The dryer is working well .
Description of Work: Tested dishwasher for failures. Ran it through full cycles to test. Also, fixed broken panel. Gas dryer not drying properly. He took apart back panel and cleaned the blower, duct and filter. Also, cleaned the outdoor exhaust.

It went phenomenally well, despite what was essentially an unhappy ending. Due to their workload, Rich was not able to pay a service call for several days. That was no problem for us. He appeared on time -- early, in fact -- and went very efficiently right to work. It took him five minutes to evaluate the washing machine, and when he heard the "noise", he immediately turned to us and said, "it's not worth repairing." He then proceeded to give us advice on what to look for in a replacement washing machine. We later had to deal with the ramifications of replacing what we hoped would be a long-lived washing machine, but we did not, repeat NOT, have to deal with a shyster repairman taking advantage of us. We were both very impressed with his alertness, honesty and his willingness to be of service to us -- beyond the limits of the bill.

He did his job carefully and did some extra trouble shooting regarding the water leak. With a similar story, he made it clear how important it is to get on this job of diverting the downspout water into a [rigid] drain pipe.
Description of Work: Rich promptly evaluated the washing machine-- which is in the basement-- which I/we thought might be the reason for the water leak in our basement. He examined the washer, hoses, connection to the sump pump, activity during wash and spin cycles. He replaced the belt and lubricated parts. He also examined the water heater and sump pump. While waiting for water to fill the wash tub he examined possible sources of water and looked carefully at a foundation wall where I reported that we had not connected a drainage pipe at a downspout. He and I came outside where he then crawled and using his flash light examined the the bottom offending gutter. He reported what he saw--wetness, collection of leaves possibly obstructing the outflow. He also examined the interior of house, including the irregular basement floor (the basement and foundation are 75 years old) and thought that the house may have shifted on the foundation and thus diverting more than the normal share of water down the gutter.

Rich arrived within the timeframe we set up, took control of the situation, and set to work. He replaced the part that needed to be replaced (glow igniter) and checked the gas level of the oven burner. He was finished well within the hour, everything tidied up and oven ready to use. He is very personable and explained what he was doing, and why, which I appreciated. I mentioned that the stove-top ignitors don't work at all any more (they have a shorter lifetime apparently), but that I was okay with lighting the burners with my Bic lighter. He assured me that if I was fine with doing this that there was no reason to replace the somewhat pricey igniter assembly. All in all, a very positive experience. I will definitely call again for any major appliance repair. (He doesn't do refrigerators, however.)
Description of Work: My 13 year old Maytag gas stove had an oven problem. It wouldn't light, but would just emit gas. Not good. And baking season is upon us! I checked Angie's List and called C & A Brown. Sue was sympathetic and indicated that this is common problem in ovens of this age. Obviously they had considerable experience with my type of situation. I explained that I qualify for "senior" discount status and she said that the hour service call charge would be $75 instead of $85. We scheduled my appointment for a few days hence.

See above. Final note would be both Susan, who scheduled the appointment, and Rick, who performed the services, were extremely helpful and responsive.
Description of Work: Our 8+ year old Maytag dryer was making a lot of noise. Rich quickly identified the potential issues and kept me informed before taking the next step. The dryer was fixed in about 30 minutes (includes evaluation, pulling it apart and replacing the necessary parts). Per my request, he also looked at our washer (same age) and recommend a few inexpensive washer changes and did a general tune-up (less than $40). Finally, for no additional labor charge, Rick also helped understand why my Asko dishwasher had water in the tub. Net, net, I was charged for about 1 hour of labor and parts. Definitely worth the cost.
