Penna Electric was our choice after getting estimates from three providers all of whom were on Angies List. We feel lucky to have them do our work: Upgrade an indoor sub-panel in our garage to quality switches (the old panel was 25 yrs old). This job cost us $800, which was one-third less than the other estimates. And then we had them come back to finish the incomplete outdoor box that was installed by another electrician. This finishing job cost us $400. The electricians even returned the next day to help us trouble-shoot an indoor appliance and they did this gratis. Todd is a very professional and friendly manager. The electricians at Penna are hard-working and impressive in their knowledge. Two thumbs up!

My gripe is that when I asked for the discount that they advertised on Angie's List I was told that they didn't do that any more but, if I gave them a good rating on Angie's List that they would pay for my Angie's List subscription the following year. I did turn them in to Angie's List at the time, but never heard what happened after that. As a result I did not renew my subscription with Angie's List. Otherwise, the lights worked after the visit so that was good.
Description of Work: Trouble shooting on non-working incandescent light fixtures in kitchen. As a result of the visit the lights did work once I got bulbs for them.

Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, the discount was not obtained through Angie’s List and was not addressed before the pricing was agreed upon. The technician was promoting leaving a review on Angie’s List about your experience, and was asking for a way that we could help make your experience better. We were able to complete the work that was requested, and for the price agreed upon. For anyone reading this, please refer to other reviews for a true quality of our work.

First off, I have to agree that the woman who answered the phone was top-notch!!! Really professional and responsive. Unfortunately for me, they sent a fairly young technician, and he clearly didn't have the experience I was hoping for. He couldn't figure out the ceiling fan/light problem, which exists to this day, and after about an hour of paying by the hour, it didn't seem worth it to continue. The doorbell was ultimately fixed, but it took an awfully long time. In his defense, I think the installers placed some of the electrical work in unusual places, but even his trip to the local Home Depot for supplies took overly long, in my opinion. My biggest complaint, though, is that after fixing the pool shed light, he didn't reconnect the pool pump correctly, and my pump didn't work properly after he left. I immediately informed them, the same technician rechecked it the next day, but he insisted that all was fine Therefore, I had no choice but to call in the original installer, who charged me $85 for the 5 minutes required to find and tighten the loose electrical connection. :(
Description of Work: I called this business in for 3 problems: a non-working doorbell, a non-working pool shed light, and a flickering ceiling fan/light unit.

The customer was told that we cannot repair ceiling fans, but are willing to replace them with a new ones. Yes, the doorbell was a little tricky, but our technician did solve the issue. The shed light was wired through the pool pump circuit which our technician corrected. When he returned per the customer request, the pump was working fine. We now suspect an intermittent loose connection may have been the problem and would have gladly made a second follow-up visit to correct it, again at no cost, not the $85 the original installer unfortunately had to charge. Penna Electric strives to be your highest quality option available to solve your electrical problems and will return at no charge to fix any collateral issues such as this.

Todd?s Company is doing well and it took a week to schedule an entire day for the work. Although arriving about an hour late, the two workers went at it diligently thereafter, took only a short lunch break, and finished everything by day?s end. I was without power no more than the predicted time. Both were polite and answered every question as if I knew what I was asking. At the end, they paid special attention to cleaning up both my surroundings and placing their own equipment back in the truck in an orderly way. Good people with good skills and good attitude.
Description of Work: I called on Penna Electric, my regular electrician, to continue the upgrade of my older house. This time Todd’s staff upgraded my electrical panel to 200 amp service, replacing an old 100 amp panel which was no longer completely up to code. At the same time, they replaced two switch and plug combinations with GFI in the kitchen, bringing it up to code, and installed two lighting fixtures for me, one in the dining area and one outside. With these tasks brought together, Todd was able to offer an attractive price. When the installation of the panel was complete, the crew also mapped each circuit and labeled them at the panel. In an older house that has seen some Do-It-Yourselfers, this was no obvious task.

They were great! They didn't even mind me looking over their shoulders the ENTIRE time and, being the overly knowledge-seeking (aka nosey) person that I am, asking (probably dumb) questions about not just the problem they were initially called out for, but many other problems!!!! They were systematic, EARLY - which is a huge departure from the norm for service personnel, incredibly patient, nice/personable, knowledgable, and professional. My family and I will definitely be utilizing their services if/and or when we have any more electrical problems or prospective work that might need to be completed in/around/outside of the house and outside office/shed. They completed the work very promptly even with me being as annoying as I'm sure I was. One of them was basically overseeing the other and also stepped in when it seemed as though the 1st one couldn't quite, either figure out the problem or screw the outlet/outlet cover back into the wall, also trying to teach/train/give the 1st tips on how to perform the task better the next time simultaneously.
Description of Work: Tested the outlets in and around the problematic room, looked at and suggested probable/possible causes/repair of a likely overloaded circuit, and inspected to see if there was a problem originating in the fuse box. They ended up just replacing an outlet that had a "reset" (can't remember the correct name for it) button on it that had been tripped, because the circuit was overloaded, with a regular outlet that didn't have the "reset" button. They said to try this first, to move the microwave from an outlet that is (still) running on the same circuit (in order to reduce the watts/ voltage on said circuit) as the room, and then to call them back if there were any continual problems. They gave me a verbal estimate and when asked, said they could/would give me a written estimate but that it was a flat rate to do the repairs and that it would be itemized on the bill. (They also informed me that it would be the same paperwork either way and that he would have us sign it before the work commenced and also after the work was completed.)

Amanda answered the the phone when I called about getting an estimate. She was very pleasant and and gave me an estimate range.I felt it was a fair estimate based on my research. She said Jermin and helper could come the next day. I told Amanda I would like them to do the job. The next day Jermin and helper arrived on time. They did a professional installation job. Jermin charged me the low end of the estimate. He even installed a smoke detector that I was going to install at no extra charge. I've made an appointment for Jermin to come back again to install 2 more outdoor lights. I had a frustrating time trying to find someone to do the job and Penna Electric came through. All in all it was a pleasant experience and I will use them again.

Overall I think they did a great job. They showed up when promised, verified the scope of work and price that I was verbally quoted. It took the two of them basically from 9 to 5 to finish everything. They cleaned up nicely when they were finished, and took care not to track dirt or create too much noise when going in and out of the house. The patch work wasn't super duper, but it -was- quite a big hole to patch up, and maybe I'm being too picky. The other thing was that the outlet was not sitting perfectly square and flush with the outlet cover, again maybe being picky. Jermin did adjust the outlet when I pointed it out and made it mostly flush. The B grade for price is because the original quote was for $1200 (which seemed a little high), but because of their 20% off "discount" coupon it was more in line with other quotes I received. Update: I called the day after the job was completed because I wasn't happy with the new tamper resistant outlets. (They make it feel like something is stuck in the outlet and it's difficult to plug things in.) Todd called the next day and explained the way the new outlets operated, but offered to change them out if I wasn't satisfied. It took them a week (and a reminder call) to come back out to replace them. Commendable customer service. I will probably use them again when I need to replace the lighting fixtures and upgrade the outlets throughout the rest of my house.
Description of Work: This is what the crew from Penna Electric (Jermin+1) did for my small bathroom. Removed existing ceiling heater, removed light fixture. Installed: 1 Auto On Ceiling Vent w/ ducting (I provided vent), with switch in attic 1 Recessed 4" light above shower w/ separate switch 1 Recessed 4" light for general lighting w/ switch 1 Wall light (I provided light) above vanity cabinet w/ switch near vanity GFCI near vanity GFCI near toilet - Patch (plaster) to be ready for paint

Started out smooth by showing up on time and completed the job quickly. By the time I came home, the work had been completed. I didn't even notice that anyone was at my house. I had the receipt waiting for me at my desk once I got home. It was one of my smoother encounters with a contractor. Pleasantly surprised and will use them in the near future with additional lighting requirements (wants) in my house.

On the first day of work the guys were delayed due to typical CA traffic, but the communication during the delay and apologies made up for that. The next day the guys were on time and worked hard to finish quickly. It's on me, but I wish I had asked to replace the existing GFI with a newer one to just update that tiny detail, but other than that I'm completely satisfied with the price and the quality of the work. I'll have to actually install the vanity lights myself because I didn't have them on hand when I scheduled the work, but that was a stocking issue and again, my fault. Also, not enough can be said about the excellent communication from the owner.
Description of Work: I needed a bathroom reconfigured with an additional GFI, a new ventilation fan connected to an occupancy sensor, relocated/added vanity lights, and an old fixture removed.

I had a very good experience with Todd Penna @ Penna Electric. He personally answered my call and came by when we agreed to meet. He gave me a courtesy call about being 20 minutes late the day of the estimate. Showed him around the place and gave him my wish list. I had the luxury of time and gave Todd a floating schedule due to him being busy and me having other trades coming and going at the time.... Todd's estimate was detailed and I agreed to his quoted price. Jermin and Lance showed up on time and I was very pleased when I saw that they had covered my wood floors with a tarp before bringing in their tools and materials. Nice !! They also captured a lot of the debris from cutting holes in the drywall with plastic sheeting making clean up very quick !!. It took them about 7 hours to perform everything since the kitchen switches were a pain to move plus lunch... Jermin went over the list with me after they had finished up. I had great expectations after speaking with Todd and his crew didn't let me down... I found Todd to be a real down to earth guy who cares about what he is does and will work with you as needed... He is now my house electrician for any future work.... Thanks Guys !!!
Description of Work: Todd's crew (Jermin & Lance.) professionally performed the following: 1.) Bring service panel up to code. (Replaced double tapped single breakers with doubles.) 2.) Move the garbage disposal and overhead light switches in kitchen. (Belt high switches on under sink cabinet to side wall.) 3.) Replace light fixture in Master Bath with an owner provided Panasonic fan/light combo. 4.) Installed fan exhaust ducting to old heater vent from MB. 5.) Installed fan exhaust ducting for half bath to outside wall with rain/air dampener cover. 6.) Ran power to east side of house for owner provided sensor light. 7.) Ran power and installed switch for south side of house with owner provided sensor light for driveway.

Needed to upgrade our oven from gas to electric but our panel could not accommodate. Todd was called and showed up on time , explained the job and sent me a bid right away. Called a couple of other companies and his was the best for pricing. We agreed upon a start date and his assistants were fast and efficient. The job took a bit longer for the city inspection to go thru which required a wooden platform to be built. He called his contact subs and they were great, although this was an unanticipated cost. I particularly appreciated the honest communications with updates and status at the various steps. Also , he did not collect a dime until the whole job was completed! I would definitely use them again and recommend without reservation!

Todd and his crew did a wonderful job installing the heaters in my studio space. It's a heater he admits he has never seen before but he was able to troubleshoot on the spot and performed the installation flawlessly. His price is more than reasonable and his crew is professional and polite. They kept me in the loop throughout the whole bidding/installation process so I knew exactly what was happening every step of the way. After they installed and tested the heaters, they even swept up the floor and discarded the shipping boxes for me so all I had to do after they left was sit down, turn on the heaters and relax. Couldn't be happier with the job they did and will definitely call on them again for my next project.
Description of Work: Todd Penna and his crew performed installation of 2 Infratech infrared heater in my photography studio. The installation included: 1. Adding 2 double-pole 30A breakers to panel 2. Mounting 2 Infratech dual-element 6000W infrared heaters to the ceiling 3. Installing switch to control the heaters 4. Installing all electrical wiring and conduits (exposed conduits mounted to open-beam ceiling) from panel to heaters (about 60ft distance)

We are completely satisfied with the work Penna Electric did at our house. After getting a couple of quotes, we felt Todd’s estimate was the most honest and reasonable. Estimates from some of the other electricians included a price range for some of the work which seemed to open the door for cost creep. Once we decided to go with Penna Electric, the work started quickly and was completed quickly. We now have a new, upgraded service panel, a new dedicated line for the kitchen, a couple extra outlets in the living room and new decorative lighting on the outside of the garage. I highly recommend Penna Electric and would hire them again.

Penna Electric provided me with professional electrical service with a great approach. From the first phone conversation I had until all the work was completed, Todd and Jermin were a pleasure to work with. I am very satisfied with the amount of work that was done in such a short period of time and with quality workmanship. Todd was great at explaining the layout of the lighting and the circuits we needed for our new appliances as well as some great ideas about motion fixtures for outside. While I went to work feeling comfortable that the work was being taken care of properly. I was not disappointed. I highly recommend Penna Electric to anyone that is looking to have electrical work done right for a fare price. Todd and Jermin are honest and knowledgeable, it is great to have found our family electrician! These guys are on time, do what they say there going to do and for a price that fit my budget.

During the time working with Penna, they were very responsive and answered all my questions. If I had a question on the placement of wires, they were open to reviewing the work and addressing all my concerns. The only hurdle I found was the permitting process was not completed as I was expecting them to do. I had to pull the permits myself but the work completed passed inspection. Overall I was satisfied with their work and recommend them to other people.
Description of Work: We had to upgrade all our electrical outlets and panel, and install new switches into an older home. I found Penna Electric as they were working on another home in my neighborhood. Penna was the most affordable bid I received. They were able to work on a short deadline with a fair amount of work to complete.
