Description of Work: We were in need of packers and movers out of our 2nd story apartment into our single story home. The person who came to do the estimate and give us our quote was very punctual, professional, and friendly. I chose this company based on this guy. The days of service, different people showed up. The packing crew was lead by a guy who seemed to know what he was doing but the other two were obviously new and clueless. But they were all friendly and courteous. The day of the move, the same lead guy was there with two new guys who appeared to have more experience in moving and were also friendly. At first I was very happy with how things were going until close to the end of packing up the moving van, they ran out of room. So several car loads of belongings were left behind. My husband and I (I was 8 1/2 months pregnant at the time) had to drive with our cars packed, which is what I was trying to avoid by hiring a moving company. The loading took longer than the guys estimated and by the time they were ready to unload, they were exhausted. So instead of putting boxes in the labeled rooms, they put them all in the kitchen (that was under construction). It was so late, and my husband and I were so tired that we just let it go. The next day, my husband had to move all the boxes so that the construction in the kitchen could continue. Over the next few weeks of unpacking, we discovered why they ran out of room in the moving van...it was the way they packed our stuff. Several boxes were full of packing paper with just one little tiny item. It was crazy the amount of paper they used! I will say that nothing got damaged in the move due to the excessive amount of paper. Also, the way the boxes were labeled made it so difficult for us to unpack and find things. With the baby on the way, we needed to prioritize what we unpacked. Everything from the kitchen and dining room was labeled "glass". Even things that were not glass. What happened to a simple label like plates, or tupperware, or wine glasses? No, it was all "glass". In conclusion, I would not recommend these guys. They were friendly and priced competitively, but the packing and moving were substandard.

Description of Work: Moovers, Inc. moved our belongings into storage in California, stored everything for two months, and delivered our belongings to us in Texas once we got a new home. Their price was the best of three companies that gave us in-person quotes, and they did provide a "not to exceed" quote. They were responsive to my many emails about the process since this was our first long distance move and our first time hiring a moving company. Our experience with Moovers was good, but it should be noted that they're an agent for National Van Lines. The part of the process that left us unhappy was dealing with National Van Lines. We provided notice nearly a month in advance of when we needed our belongings delivered. Two weeks before delivery, they gave us one delivery window and approximate delivery date. But then we didn't get a call to confirm from the driver after the date he was supposed to have picked up the load, so we called to find out what had happened. It turned out that the truck that had been sent did not have enough room for our belongings. They had to wait another whole week for a different truck, and that pushed the delivery out of the originally promised delivery window. This meant that the delivery was now to take place while we had contractors working in the house, so our belongings had to be delivered into the garage instead of the house. The movers who unloaded the truck were NOT employees of National, nor were they an actual moving company. Instead, it was one guy who contracts the unloading jobs for cash and uses friends for unloading labor. He had a couple of teenagers with him for our job. Because of the delay in the move and the belongings being in the garage, we had to ask the movers if they'd come back another day to move at least the furniture to the rooms upstairs. They quoted us a minimum daily rate of $125 per person; they said they'd only accept cash; and they said they could not provide a receipt or invoice since they work as "casual labor" for the moving companies on a cash-only basis. They do not carry insurance, and they were pushy - saying that we wouldn't be able to find someone else on such short notice since it's the busy summer moving season. Needless to say, we chose to use someone else to move a few large furniture pieces, and we ended moving most of the boxes ourselves. In the end, I blame National Van Lines for the issues we had. It's their job to know the size of our load and send a truck with enough room to pick it up. They failed to do that, so they missed our delivery window and caused a chain of events that would have been avoided if they had a better handle on the logistics of the move, which is their one and only job. If we were moving locally, we'd hire Moovers, Inc. in a heartbeat. For a long distance move, I'm not sure if we'd use them again based on our experience with National Van Lines.

Description of Work: Packed large pieces and my boxes and moved from CA to UT. They were great, except that the estimater said I could use plastic bins and then a couple of them broke. The actual movers said I shouldn't have used them. There was also a hook on an antique hall tree broken. Really that's not much damage for such a big move. I would use them again. They are a group who values being clean and sober and I appreciate that.

Description of Work: It's important to note that when a moving company representative comes to your home to obtain a quote for you, that is where his involvement ends. What he promises/assures you of may not really be the reality of the service, the job you may receive. We were moving a 2800 sf home full of STUFF, having lived in this home for 25+ years...so we had a lot and we were moving from one state to another (neighboring) state. One day the company rep came to give us the quote. We had already received 2 previous quotes. We decided to go with this company...all 3 quotes, by the way, were quite similar. Only 2 or 3 days later a crew of 4 (I believe) came to pack us. The spent most of the day packing us. There was one packer who more-or-less piled things into boxes, no matter what...liquids with pillow...that kind of thing. That is still causing us hardship in unpacking those boxes...to place a claim with moving companies is not a "client-friendly" option...So, for small items and their damage and/or breakage, it's not worth it...The biggest disappointment in our move came 1) the day of packing the big van, and 2) the day of unloading this same van. It was RUSH RUSH RUSH...that was unnerving and unnecessary...Those days were frantic...the day of loading the van, the man in charge had his team of workers RUNNING most of the day...with our furniture and boxes...It was difficult to watch and even more difficult to stop. Arriving at our new destination, it was more intense rushing...I'm aware it's important to get the job done in a pro-timely manner, but this was too much and not OK...We're still experiencing the fall-out while still unpacking these boxes of ours. This atmosphere was far too stressful. Our possessions were moved...It was an OK experience, but the moving days soured us on using this company again.

great. Very professional.
Description of Work: moved my daughter's studio/1 bedroom apt to Baltimore. They came out to look at her belongings and gave an estimate. They returned the next day and carefully loaded the truck. It took 2 hours. Her delivery arrived safely in Baltimore 11 days later, just as they predicted. Very happy with service.

Description of Work: I learned through this website & (a moving website) that the most popular moving company in the area was the best, but I was in a state of denial and took my time setting up a reservation. My first choice was booked so I learned about Moovers, Inc & another moving company with equally good reports. I got estimates from both to move my 3 bedroom house from Berkeley to Oakland. The other company's estimate was about $300 more & they had a 4 person moving team for a higher price compared to Moovers 3 person team. My economist husband told me that the per person dollar was a better deal with Moovers. They did a GREAT job. The head guy was super personable & they didn't have problems with me asking them to rearrange a bit after I asked them to place the furniture. It turns out that the head guy and one other mover was trained at the same company we'd heard was the best!
