Description of Work: We started with EB Specialists on just a couple of handiman tasks, but because they did the work promptly and competently, I then asked him to give me a bid on bathroom fixes at my rental house. I had had a mold inspection there, which indicated terrible stuff, and in the process of ripping out the mold, we (or I) realized that there wasn't much that was going to be left. So it was time to turn an illegal bathroom into a permitted one. I brought a trusted architect in , and she recommended foundation work, on top of all the other issues. So all in all, the house got a lot done to it - foundations, framing, flooring, permitting, rebuilding a bathroom, drywall, plumbing, painting. A very big job, but the house now will, after all this, survive another 50 years. Wilfredo worked with me, the architect, and (probably the most important), the city inspectors, and communicated regularly. He also took lots of pictures, both before and after, so I also felt that I could keep up with the issues while I was at work. I was very pleased with the work, the punctuality, his bids and his flexibility.

Description of Work: I needed someone to install (2) in-the-wall A/C unit.

Description of Work: EB Specialists came out and installed a bathroom fan and had to install new duct work in order to accommodate the fan. While they were here they put in a bathroom window, tub, toilet, and vanity. Everything came with a problem. The window will not slide open and close, it gets stuck. I did not like how he installed the fan. Some of the pipes installed were leaking at the time, but he said he fixed it. They did not clean during the job and left the old tub sitting on my front patio for days. The sink they removed, they left downstairs in the bushes.

Description of Work: I have used E B Specialist Hanyman Service many times in the past for various jobs including garage door repair, electrical outlet placement, installing landscape lighting, as well as putting in a vent in the bathroom. This latest job was for reparing outside stucco, interior drywall/plaster placement and molding around a new door that I had installed.

Description of Work: Wilfredo and his team painted the inside of our apartment. They also installed metal sliders for several drawers. He then painted the cement patio.

Description of Work: Our fence was damaged and had to be replaced. It was a custom job that needed to match existing fencing.

Description of Work: Buying and installing a new external garage access door and locks, repairing and rehanging a small wooden gate, removing a room air conditioner from a window frame and re-installing the sliding window (which I had kept) in its place, and moving two large bookcases from one room to another. Wilfredo came to the site to provide an estimate of time and price a few days before the actual work performed so we were on the same page.

Description of Work: Wilfredo and his workers did interior painting (including a bedroom, bathroom, 3 closets, the interior of the back door, and other touch-up painting), plumbing in bathroom and kitchen, and changed the filter in my heating/air conditioner unit.

Description of Work: E.B. Specialist is a highly rated handyman on Angie's List. I suppose those that actually were able to get him to work may have had a positive experience but that was not the case with me. Ultimately, I could not get the owner, Mr. Wilfredo Avelar to respond to my requested work so I cannot provide an opinion on his end product. My perspective on his professionalism is that he is not dependable and that his is the kind of company and person that fulfills the worst fears of contractor undependability and, looking on the bright side from Angie's List perspective, that gives rise to the whole idea and need for Angie's List. Even with the List, evidently high ratings do not mean consistency of performance. When I first called him to set up an appointment to look at the work that I wanted performed, a variety of jobs that included changing shutters, repainting, replacing some molding around the garage door, etc., it seemed promising as he indicated that he was interested and does perform such work and would come on the Monday of the following week, about 3 days after the time of the call to review the work that I wanted done. Come Monday at the appointed time, no show. After about two hours, my wife calls him and he says that because it was raining, he didn't show. When asked why he didn't call to let us know that he wasn't going to show up, he didn't answer the question but stated that it was raining. At my wife's prompting another appointment time was set for Thursday, three days later. The next day, Tuesday, because it was sunny, my wife calls him to see if he would come out that day and take a look at the work and provide an estimate. He agrees. He does show up at the appointed time, reviews the work and indicates that he will provide an estimate at the end of the week. A week later, no response. So I call him to see how he is progressing on the estimate. I should have taken the hint when I first called him that there is some lack of professionalism when he answers his phone with a seemingly annoyed "hello" rather than "E.B. Specialist". In any case, I suppose I should be happy that he answered the phone. I remind him of the visit to our house and about the promised estimate and asked if he was still interested in doing the work. He states that indeed he is interested and that his son was working on the estimate and that he would get the estimate to us by Monday, three days later. Come Monday, nothing. In fact, nothing, period. So do I continue to chase after him or cut my losses (in time, overall about three weeks time) and move on? I chose to move on and I would recommend that you do the same when you are looking for a handyman. What is interesting is that during his visit, he indicates to my wife that the there aren't a lot of projects going on right now and that if we wanted him to do the job he would provide a 10% discount to his quote as he was eager to work. This is not a case where I was going to get three estimates and choose the lowest one. This is a case where I was willing to give him the work as long as his quote wasn't outlandish, since he was so well regarded by so many on Angie's List. He never gave a reason as to why he didn't call the first time he didn't show. He basically blamed his son for not getting the estimate to us but then he never provided an estimate and never called to follow up. Ultimately, I chose another company, who turned out to be much more dependable. The work is currently progressing well. If Mr. Avelar reads these comments, just know that the amount of the work will ultimately come to about $6,000. I will provide an update of the handyman that I'm using when the work is finished.

Description of Work: Wilfrado and his team did a great job. I remodeled my kitchen and hired them to do some drywall work. They were very professional. The price was right, they were on time and cleaned up after themselves. I liked them so much I had them come back and lay the new tile floor and back splash in the kitchen, put new casing on the doors and install an exhaust fan in the bathroom. I couldn't be more satisfied. I would certainly refure them to my friends and family.

Description of Work: Wilfredo and Felipe installed a new ceiling fan in our living room, including a metal support; cut metal poles to be used for holding a volleyball net and installed them in concrete in our backyard; built a shelf in a bedroom closet; removed old door hinges and patched up the door frame; replaced a toilet fill valve; and removed an old TV antenna from the roof.

Description of Work: Wilfredo did a series of jobs for me after I moved into my new condo: 1. repaired a ceiling fan that was making a horrible noise and now works quite quietly; replaced a non-repairable ceiling fan with a new fan. 2. Installed shelves and a door to enclose those shelves in a nook on my patio 3. Attached hooks and a wall shelf on the stucco wall of my patio to hold plants, etc. 4. Hung shelves in my kitchen to hold cookbooks, etc.

Description of Work: I made an appointment and even discussed the reports of Angie's List customers who complained about his failure to show. I made a point to let him know that I was willing to give him a chance, but really needed a bathroom water issue looked at. He and I made the appointment approximately 2 weeks in advance. The day came-one of my very few days off. HE NEVER SHOWED, NEVER CALLED and WASTED MY TIME! He may be a great worker once you get him, but he lacks the decency to call a customer to say he is not comming and the good sense to hire an office assistant that can better run his business. I guess he got a bigger job.
