Not well at all. See above.
Description of Work: I requested repair service on my A/C. It had completely shut down. Air Tech was local (Pasadena) and responded quickly. I was told that I needed to have a very expensive test of the existing system to determine if there was a leak. And the cost of the test did not include any additional costs for the actual repair. I was not inclined to have the test. But another, seemingly viable, option was suggested---the application of an emergency seal (super seal) . This initially sounded more appropriate, but unfortunately, I was not given sufficient information - or I did not understand the actual process and costs. I had assumed, erroneously, that the superseal option was suggested because of its viability and/or likelihood of correcting the problem. As it turns out, I was charged over $600 with no guarantee, and the superseal process did not work; the A/C was not working after 1 day. I was astounded that I had just paid over $600 and absolutely nothing had been accomplished. The Air Tech president, Larry Rodriguez, provided an estimate to replace the system, which was competitive. But I later learned that his proposal for the A/C unit was not legal, nor would it pass permit inspection. This information was given to me by two additional contractors who gave me estimates. That fact on top of the fact that I paid a significant amount of money with no successful repair (super seal process) left a very sour taste in my mouth.

Response from Air-Tech Air Conditioning & Heating Inc
Air-Tech recently noticed an unfavorable review of our company from [member name removed]. The review was posted 8 months after her service was completed, without any prior notice to our company of a problem with our services. This statement was shocking to us, especially because we told her that we were willing to find the best option for her, even discounting our installation, to help her out during a heat wave last summer. Our comfort advisers are on a first name basis with all the Pasadena inspectors because our company does so much work in the city of Pasadena. We were actually recognized for this work and awarded the “2012 Best of Pasadena Award in the Air Conditioning System Contractors“by the Pasadena Award Program. We do what we can to try to make our customers happy and will continue to strive to do so. The owner of Air-Tech, Larry Rodriguez, called [member name removed] on March 20th, 2013 at 1:50pm to try to resolve this matter with [member name removed]. He left a message that asked her to call back to better understand the concerns and discuss why she did not inform us about her problem with Air-Tech at the time of her service. Our office received no response so Larry called [member name removed] again on March 28th, 2013. He was able to reach her and asked if she could relay her thoughts regarding the system. [member name removed] would not explain to Larry why she had not called back and would not say what she thought was “illegal” about the proposal. [member name removed] did mention to Larry that another contractor told her that her proposal was illegal and she was unhappy with the price but did not want to discuss anything further at that time. You will find an account (written in the third person by Larry Rodriguez) regarding the order of events with [member name removed] service call last year: 1. [member name removed] called for service and we responded right away, as she notes in her statement. 2. The technician went to her site and noticed the unit was low on refrigerant so he performed a quick leak check and could not find any leaks. NOTE: It was very hot that week and [member name removed] had original equipment in her home, which was about 25 years old. 3. The technician asked [member name removed] if his manager, Larry Rodriguez, could come out to explain the situation to her because she didn’t seem to understand options for repair / replacement. 4. Larry came to the site and gave [member name removed] three options: a. Check for leaks (with more extensive leak tests) to determine if the system is worth repairing or if it better to replace a section (condenser; coil; line set) or the whole system. b. Charge system with super-seal which typically results in a 50% change to fix the leak or it will merely slow the leak down and prolong the life of the unit. c. Replace all components. 5. Larry explained to [member name removed] that if she replaced her whole system he would credit some of the labor expense toward the installation cost. Larry gave her prices on repairs for all three sections and a price for the replacement of the whole system. NOTE: If a technician can’t find a leak immediately, he proceeds to check each section of the system with a specific nitrogen test in the order listed above. 6. After explaining the options and pricing to [member name removed], she mentioned that she just wanted air to get through that heat wave and chose Option B- Super seal and refrigerant charge. 7. Air-Tech completed this work for [member name removed] and left the site with her equipment operating. [member name removed] thanked us upon completion.

In 2008, AirTech installed a new central AC and heating system in my house for about $12000. I was satisfied with their work at the time and had no doubts that their follow up care would be just as good as the initial installation was. This past January, the heater stopped working. A gentleman came out to inspect it and exchanged a motor. Although the unit was still under warranty, I was presented with a bill for the part, which was upsetting, but I understand that the warranty does not cover those things. However, the unit still did not work. The same employee came back a few times, never able to find the problem, but in the course of trying he deleted all the settings on my thermostat. I spent HOURS on the phone with AirTech asking if they could send someone else or contact the manufacturer on my behalf. I went for 6 weeks with no heat during the coldest time of the year, with a unit that was less than 5 years old. The more I called, the more rude the employee on the phone became. I asked to talk to Rod, the owner, who had sold me the unit back in 2008, but was always told he wasn't in. Finally, I managed to get the manufacturer to send someone out who took exactly 5 minutes to fix the problem. Since then, my thermostat does not let me heat the lower level of the house separately from the upper level. I have called a few times to have someone come out and simply reprogram it to what it was before their employee reset it, but they don't want to do it unless I pay. Overall, I am very disappointed in the customer care AirTech provides. I recommended them to several friends after the initial installation, but would not recommend them anymore.

This was my first time using this company and I was very impressed by Guillermo's professionalism. He took time to explain our furnace system to me and showed me where the drains are for the a/c unit. I have already scheduled them to come out for a/c maintenance in a few months. He also went above and beyond by figuring out that our unit is still under warranty by checking the serial number - something we did not know since purchasing our home just last year. I really appreciated that.

Went well. My a/c stopped functioning altogether during a hot spell in the late summer, and my heat also was not functioning. I waited until the weather cooled off and I had a day off. Called at 8am and quickly set up a 2-4pm window which was honored by Guillermo. $120 base charge for the service call seemed a bit high particularly when all it was was a blown fuse on the outside of the unit. But he found it quickly and was kind enough to show me how to check a fuse in the future with my voltmeter to be able to diagnose this myself. A replacement fuse was $5. I was impressed with Guillermo's honesty and straightforwardness and he seemed knowledgeable although this was not a major or difficult problem. He easily could have led me to believe it was something much more serious if he were so inclined, but again I am certain now he is totally a straight shooter. I wanted to use a contractor that was located nearby, prompt, honest, and had a large number of reviews to look at, and I got all that. Most definitely would use again.

Great job. Larry Rodriguez (the company President) came out personally to review the project and give me an estimate to replace my old central air conditioner and furnace (vintage 1970's). This was followed promptly by a formal written proposal with a timeline. The pricing was competitive, and I had a good sense that the company was solid. The work was done as proposed, and all of the installer technicians seemed very knowledgeable and experienced. The administrative staff in the office was very responsive and helpful. The job was done on time and on budget and I am very happy with the end result.

I understand I asked for services during a particularly high demand time. The heat wave was reaching 108 and my AC goes out. While I am trying to sleep the thermometer says my bedroom is 105 at 10 PM. The first appointment took 2 days to come but the tech was professional, on time and gave very good information and provided an estimate. The next appointment was 2 days later. I found out later they were installers not techs. They arrived 8 hours late. It was stil 108 outside. No one called to say they would be late. I had to call twice myself to get information on what was going on. This was very typical of the office. They worked for 4 hours and it was still not working. They told me someone would call on Monday. Nobody called on Monday, so I called. They said they had not heard anything about a problem. In 2 days they would send out another tech. He came on time and figured out the problem but he needed a part. He said the office would call when they got the part. Knowing how the office does not seem to get info, I called the next day. Sure enough they did not know they needed to order a part. They ordered the part and told me they would call me when it arrived. Most likely Monday. Did not hear from them on Monday, so of course I called. They said the part was in and had already given me an appointment date for Wednesday. Hadn't somebody called me? No they hadn't. Finally on Wednesday my ac was repaired. After 4 appointments and my work being very upset I took so many days off and I slept in a bedroom that was 105 for 3 weeks. The tech Guiellermo was great. Professional and knowledgable. Always on time. The office had poor communications although they were always very nice. The company did not honor the maintanance agreement because I mailed it in and they did not recieve it until after the tech came out the second time.

I bought a new HVAC system from this company about 6 years ago; although an error made by the installer took so long to correct that it made me ineligible for the city's rebate, the work was otherwise fine. I have had them out on a couple of occasions and they were pleasant on the phone, professional and arrived within the scheduled window, and in fact graciously comped me a service call when the "system malfunction" report on my thermostat turned out to be a circuit breaker. (in retrospect, it is very likely that the circuit breaker issue was caused by a part going bad, and possibly that is what also burned out the two other parts that had to be replaced.) I would use them again in a pinch, but if this is what I can expect in terms of responsiveness, effort, and access to parts, from the company that installed my system, I doubt I can do any worse trying other recommended vendors. After I wrote this review I had a very nice call from the owner who was very concerned and not only apologized for the poor experience I had but gave me some confidence that he had made some changes to assure that would not happen again. He also sent me a reimbursement for the lost rebate ( which had been long in the past) in the form of a generous gift card. I have to say I was very impressed with the responsiveness, openness and concern, and will definitely be willing to use them again as a first choice.
Description of Work: It took a little more than two weeks to repair. In all, they replaced three parts. I first contacted them on 8/8 after my AC went out on 8/7. I was told that due to the heat wave the first appt. I could get would be 4 days later, a Saturday. A long time to wait for a system they had installed a few years ago, but OK. On Friday I called concerned that if it required a major part, as an electrician had told me it would, that they would not be able to do anything until Monday. I was put off and told that until they came out they would not know what was needed. On Saturday they arrived within the scheduled window and SURPRISE, needed a part that they could not get until Monday. On Monday I was told that they were having the part mailed (why they would have it mailed from a LOCAL supplier I can't fathom) so they would not be able to do anything until Tuesday. On Tuesday I was told it would be Wednesday. On Wednesday they came at the very end of the day and installed two new parts, but it still kept shutting down; the technician could not get any response from the Bryant troubleshooter so said there was nothing more he could do that day. I explanined that I was very concerned since I was leaving on a short vacation that the house would be well over 100 degrees for several days which would be bad for plants, electronics, wine, etc. He promised he would come back the next day after talking with a troubleshooter and I wrote out permission for him to do so; we left the system on to cool so when it was fixed it would cool the house; I also arranged with him for someone to be there on Saturday morning so he could get inside if needed and left my cell phone number. No calls, and on Tuesday night when I got home, it was clearly not fixed. I called and was told he would be out Wednesday morning; I canceled my 9 am appt. to wait for him and he arrived at 10ish and fixed it. He had not come back in the interim at all, since they were "so busy", so all the arrangements had been for nothing.

I live in a condo with an unconventional heating/cooling system. We have a radiant system that uses a chiller to feed cool fluid through a closed system of pipes into each unit. In the winter, we use a boiler to heat fluid for the system. Each unit has a blower that blows air across coils that are fed by the buildings pipes. An additional complication is that in my unit I have a power box that turns the blower on/off and sets the fan for high/low. For the longest time, I have had great heat in the winter but minimal to non-existent cooling in the summer. I was anxious that it would turn out to be complicated and costly to repair the system. I have had one other company look at the system, and they couldn't give me any reason for the discrepancy between winter and summer. When I initially called, I just wanted to replace the thermostat and hoped that the technician (Guillermo) could figure out why I was having this problem. When he arrived (he put on booties to protect my floors!), he listened carefully and respectfully to my description of the system. He opened up both the thermostat and the power box as well as the examining the leads to the solenoids and blower. After about an hour of investigating, he realized that the thermostat was not connected properly to the leads into the power or solenoids so there wasn't any cold fluid released into the coils. We wound up re-using my original thermostat. Throughout the service he took the time to explain what he was doing and showed me the temperature as he was testing the system. The only small criticism is that he arrived an hour later than the window I was given, but that was understandable as it was a very hot week and they had many calls. The company's dispatcher called to let me know he would be late. It was worth the wait as Guillermo seemed very knowledgeable and experienced. He was able to figure out my building's strange system and fix the problem easily. Overall I am very happy with the company and plan on using them again to repair a small leak in the system's drainage pipe.

I purchased my AC unit from Air_tech and they installed it in 2008. The work for the installation was done quickly and the installers were very professional. However, within a year of the installation, I noticed that the master bedroom didn't feel like it was cooling properly. I had them come back and they weren't able to find any problems. I leased the house fairly soon after that and the tenants didn't report any problems with the unit, but we also had a through-the-wall AC unit in the room, that they apparently used to cut cooling costs. I moved back into the house last fall and didn't have a need to use the central air until recently when we had some very hot weather and I noticed that the master bedroom wasn't cooling. I called and set-up an appointment to have them come and check the problem. The office person set up the appointment, but didn't tell me that there would be a minimum service charge for the call, regardless of any work being done. Since I had purchased a service contract from Air-Tech recently, I assumed the service call would be covered. The technicians found the problem and corrected it within about 10 minutes, but then to my surprise, they presented me with a bill. When I told them I had a service contract and I thought that covered they call, they explained it was only for routine maintenance. I paid them and then later in the day, called the office to complain about the charge The office person told me there was nothing they could do - they HAD to charge since it had been more than a year since it had been installed. I asked to speak with someone else, and she got me in touch with Larry, who is the owner of the company. When I explained to Larry what had happened, and that I hadn't been aware there would be a charge, he immediately agreed to refund my money and said he would work with his office staff to ensure they always disclose all charges at the time appointments were set. He also took the time to explain how the service contract works and what it covers. Larry was very patient and extremely professional and his assistance made all the difference in the world. After my unit was installed, my mom remodeled her house and I recommended Air-Tech to her for her AC unit, she used them and was very happy with them. Before I talked to Larry, I was determined to never recommend this company to anyone again, but Larry restored my confidence in the company and I won't hesitate to recommend Air-Tech to anyone with HVAC needs.
Description of Work: My central AC unit was cooling the master bedroom properly, so I called Air-Tech, the company that I purchased the unit from and that had installed it, to come out to repair it. The technicians arrived on time, checked the air flow in all rooms and then after determining there was little to no air flow in the room, checked the damper in the duct to the room and determined that it hadn't been fully opened. They opened the damper completely and the air now flows beautifully. They had me check the airflow again in all of the rooms to make sure the adjustment hadn't created another problem and that I was satisfied with the way the unit was working. The whole process took about 10 minutes.

There were terrible odors eminating from the air intake vent of our heating/ac system and we could not locate the source. We called four different companies to come out and evaluate the problem, including duct cleaning operations and heating/ac specialists. None of them were able to give us a good explanation of the cause of the odors, and they each gave us a different solution they thought might work, including replacement of all of our ducting and installing a new heating unit. We called Air-Tech after finding them on Angie's List, and Rod came out. He appeared to do the most thorough inspection and, when he came down from the attic, he confidently told us that he had located the source of the odors, gave us a detailed explanantion of how the improper installation of the air conditoning unit caused the problem, and outlined the steps he would take to correct the situation. Compared to the other representatives that previously came out, Rod's professionalism was a welcome relief. We were comfortable giving him the job... his wokers showed up on time and did a clean, excellent job. It's now been over a month since they've been to our house, and we have not had any odors since. We are satisfied customers and are now having Air-Tech do another job for us, in addition to servicing our equpment annually.
Description of Work: Air-Tech installed a new air conditioner condensate drain, levelled the furnace and coil to insure proper draining, blew out existing contaminated condensate with CO2, installed UV germicidal lighting to neutralize any remaining bacteria in system, repaired ductwork and sealed all connections... all with a 1-year unconditional guarantee that this would take care of the odor problem in our heating/ac system.

Air Tech was professional and upfront with the repair we needed, everything went very well. Their office kept great communication with us, and the tech was very nice to work with. We will call Air Tech the next time we have A/C or Heating problems.

They were fantastic. They were prompt and they were only half the price of the people that came out and gave an estimate a month earlier. They were terrific. They were nice, prompt, respectful and reasonable.
Description of Work: They moved over our air conditioning compressor 6 feet over. It is a lot of work having disconnect everything and re connect it.

The salesperson was amazing. Completely down to earth and relaxed. A real guy. None of this "I'm going to sell you an air-conditioner if it's the last thing I do" attitude. ZERO hard sell. He also told me about last year's model, which offered a considerable saving over the current one. The guys who came out and did the job were quiet and courteous. It was all done with a minimum of fuss. Definitely would recommend these guys.

Guillermo arrived just before the scheduled time and was very personable and professional. We had been experiencing a lack of full heat and air conditioning and was hoping all we needed was a tuneup of sorts. We bombarded Guillermo with questions and he patiently answered all of them. He checked things over and discovered that when we had our Carrier unit installed the electronic filter had been installed in the wrong place! He even showed us. Ironically I just had those same technicians out the week before for the very same problem and was told nothing was wrong but we needed our compressor cleaned for approx $ 350.00 and new duct work. We felt like we were being lied to and luckily I cancelled the appt. That's when I turned to Angie's List and found Air-Tech.
Description of Work: Cleaned Electronic Air Filter and inspection of Heater/AC The $ 200.00 amount also includes another appt. in six months at no cost

The experience overall was excellent. The original call to Air Tech was professional and direct. You could tell the answerer knew her business and answered all of our questions. Memo's (Lead Service Technician) 1st and 2nd visit were good experiences. He was on time, professional, skillful and pleasant. You can tell he really enjoys his job. The owner was extemely helpful, compassionate and willing to work with us when we needed to clarify some confusion. Overall I would definitely recommend this company and call them again if we have more problems.
Description of Work: The inital problem was that the heater would not shut off in the auto mode. It was set for 72 degrees but kept running and was heating the house to over 80 degrees. We, the homeowner, assume that the thermostat was bad but that wasn't the case. We called Air Tech to help us with the problem. The intial service call was $120.00 which included a senior discount and free maintenance (plus the filter). Memo (Lead Service tech) troubleshot the problem and discovered that the control board was bad not the thermostat. We did not agree to the repair until we received the quote. He needed to get the price of the control board on the following business day (Monday) so he said he would call back once he received it. Air Tech called on Monday, as promised, but there was some confusion on what needed to be ordered. We learned later that the office personal is new and mixed up the order but it was corrected in a timely manner. We received the quote and decide to have Memo return to the house and fix the problem. In addition, we asked him if he could replace the thermostat. He said he would if we bought it and had it available for installation when he returned. When Memo returned he replaced the thermostat and explained his steps during the entire installation. When he completed the installation he explained in detail very simply how it worked. Next Memo and I went up to the attic so he could replace the control board. Again, Memo explained his steps along with answering questions of the rest of the unit and how it works. During the installation he notice some things that should be replaced in the near future but did not push the issue. His goal was to make sure that the homeowner is aware of what the have and the potential for failure in the future. By the way, the unit he worked on was installed in 1982. He also noticed that the thermocouple wire was stripped from the original installation so he repaired that for no extra cost. Once the control board was in and he tested the system and explained how he knew that the control board was the problem. Memo than proceeded to check and service the rest of the unit/equipment i.e. condensor, breakers, inlets, outlets etc. He is very skillful and experienced in his trade. Memo was extremely thorough and professional.

When our power went out and came back on during the recent windstorms, the wiring to our furnace shorted out and our thermostat stopped working. We called Air Tech on Monday morning, and we got an appt for the next day. Guillermo came out to do the service and was on-time. He was very professional, and diagnosed the problem quickly. We have a 100 year old house, so the wiring is difficult to deal with... Although he couldn't repair the wiring that existed, he gave us several alternate options to get the furnace back up and running that day. We ended up moving the thermostat and running new wiring, which took additional time, but was done quickly. Overall, our experience was good, and we definitely plan to have our annual service through Air Tech in the future.
Description of Work: Replaced the wiring to our furnace (re-ran wiring and changed the location of the thermostat).
