Had arranged to have an estimate (appreciate being able to set this up by e-mail - that is why I didn't give them an F) - given a two hour window 10a.m - 12noon - waited but no show. Called the office after the time passed - got an answer service, so no way to find out if they were 'just around the corner' - or if I somehow didn't get on the schedule... it is hard for me to get days off to make these kind of appointments. When a company can not honor an appointment for an estimate I am certainly less likely to chose that company to install a new air conditioner. Of course could have been some unavoidable situation... but don't know - they didn't call, and were not there for me to speak with. I'm always willing to give a company a second chance... but don't know when it will be convenient again for me.

Response from Air-Tech Air Conditioning & Heating Inc
We would first like to apologize to this customer. Since this incident, we have changed our scheduling procedures via email. The customer emailed on Wednesday morning to schedule an appointment for an estimate. Our service manager responded to this email offering an appointment time of Friday between 10am-12pm. After corresponding with the customer regarding the appointment time we were still waiting for basic information like address and cross street. He did not receive a response from the customer before leaving the office on Wednesday. Unfortunately, our service manager was out of the office on Thursday and Friday due to a funeral. Since he was not there to receive the response from the customer, we assumed this time was not convenient for the customer. Being out on Friday, our service manager didn't put this appointment on the schedule. We realize our error in procedures, and have since changed our policy to receive a same day confirmation from the customer in order to make sure this doesn't happen again. We have also recommended to our customer associate to try to contact the customer via phone to gather as much information as possible. Air-Tech strives for quality customer service. We do have an answering service to help with incoming calls while our office is closed (i.e. lunch and after hours) because we feel it is important for our customers to speak with a person. We hope that our modification to our online scheduling will still allow for customer convenience without sacrificing customer service. In order to try to rectify this problem, we tried contacting the customer several times to see if we could complete the estimate when it was convenient for them. After making contact with the customer again, we completed the estimate on a Saturday. We realize our customer's time is valuable. Again, we'd like to apologize for this experience and have made administrative changes in order to streamline our online processes. We are also in the process of updating our website to make our on line process more efficient.

I called, and was given a service date and time, of March 17, 2010, between 1 and 3pm. I scheduled my day off from work so that I could be here to wait for the service provider. At about noon, a representative called to say that the technician would be delayed, and that he would instead arrive between 2 and 4pm, so I waited. At 3:45, the representative called again, saying this time that the technician was leaving Beverly Hills (I live in Pasadena) and would be able to arrive between 4:30 and 5pm. I am enormously frustrated by the complete lack of consideration and customer service from this company. Clearly, they knew well before 3:45 that there was absolutely no way the tchnician could ever be here at the appointed time, and yet they left me at home, hostage, waiting for him. There were lots of things that I would rather have done today, and yet here I sit, still with a broken furnace, I've lost a vacation day, and with nothing to show for my day... I definitely couldn't get away with running my business this way!
Description of Work: No services were performed, the technician never arrived! Though he knew that he could not possibly make it here during the appointment time, no one bothered to call untill the very last minute, and I was left stranded waiting for them. Though I didn't pay for a service call that didn't happen, my vacation days are very valuable to me, and now I will have to take another, to wait for a technician from another company!

Response from Air-Tech Air Conditioning & Heating Inc
We would like to apologize to the customer for not being able to perform the requested service at our original scheduled time. Our service tech scheduled on this call ran late that day from his previous appointments. We schedule our service calls generally within 2 hour windows to allow enough time for our technicians to diagnose and repair problems as needed. Some calls take longer than others depending on the issue at hand and the type of system. Unfortunately, since not all problems are the same, sometimes we run behind schedule, just as doctors run behind schedule with their patients they have to diagnose and treat, or a mechanic may run behind schedule when performing a routine oil change, but then finds an oil leak and has to take time to fix the leak for the satisfaction of the customer. When our dispatcher was informed our tech was running behind schedule, we called the customer to move the time frame back. We do have more than one technician, but our other tech was tending to another labor intensive call. Realizing that we couldn’t fit the call within the already late timeframe we had suggested, we had to call the customer back to apologize and again make her aware that we would be later than anticipated. At this point, the customer was upset and hung up on our dispatcher. Our dispatcher informed our manager of the situation. Our manager called at 4pm and left a message offering to come out and perform the service call. In addition, the owner of Air-Tech called the customer later that day to see if there was any way to accommodate the customer since she had been inconvenienced. He offered to come out to her house free of charge at that time while she was home and had already had the day off, or come out on the weekend free of charge so she didn’t have to miss any work, but the customer declined. At Air-Tech, we try to provide the best service we can for our customers.

We have just bought our first home and the inspector pointed out that we needed a second condensate line on the air conditioning unit. I checked out Angie's List, looking for a local service, independently owned/operated if possible, and, a plus! offering a coupon! My husband had had dealings with Air Tech before while working at Caltech and found them capable so we contacted them. The first technician to arrive explored the attic and was able to solve the condensate line, but he pointed out what our inspector had failed to mention: the unit was balanced on a couple of cinder blocks instead of being suspended from the roof. Of course we could have left it like that, but we're very glad we didn't. He was able to get a team out to re-hang the unit in a short time, and now, with it properly mounted, the entire system is practically silent. Thanks, Air Tech!!
Description of Work: The first technician was very careful about not tracking any dirt around, either from the outside, or from the attic. He explained what he would do, willingly accepted the Angie's List coupon (even if we *did* have to run back to the house to reprint it after leaving it at work), He pointed out another issue that we had not been aware of and was able to call in another team of technicians to rehang the air-conditioning unit. He gave the entire system a "tune up" and gave us information about the condenser and fan unit so our records would be more complete.

Rod clearly explained all of the new requirements for duct testing and qualifying for the available tax credits and rebates. He provided a range of estimates (good, better, best) as far as energy efficiency and price. I chose a medium level system, but didn't need new ducting because he sealed my existing system to meet state requirements. He thoroghly cleaned the ducts prior to installation of a new furnace and air-conditioning system. He and his workers were prompt, organized, efficient and thorough. The installation took 3 days, and they left the house clean after each work session. They kept me informed as the work progressed. The work was done according to city codes and passed all inspections. I intend to have them come on a regular basis to clean and maintain this system. I was very happy with the experience.
Description of Work: Air-tech sealed my existing duct system so that it passed the state-required inspection for leakage. They then installed a new furnace, air-conditioning coil and condenser, complete with additional required plumbing and venting.

The installers were great. The day they came, it was raining and very cold. I can't imagine how uncomfortable they must have been working in that little crawl space, but they were very professional and took great care to be neat. I thought the price was a little steep, but then I don't know how much these things cost. The heater now works great. No complaints. Overall, I'm very pleased.
Description of Work: I thought I had a problem with my thermostat because I couldn't get the heater to stay on. After thoroughly checking the heating system (which is in the crawl space above the ceiling), technician Tom said all the ducts coming in and going out were undersized. Consequently, the heating unit was overheating and was shutting itself off (a safety feature). He also found a gas line that was not properly installed and other things not up to code. He recommended replacing all the ducting to the proper size and adding an additional vent so the heat would distribute more evenly, as well as fixing the safety hazards.

They were very good. We were very pleased with the work that they did. They were very efficient and polite. They came when they said they were going to come. They were clean and they did a good job. I don't recall how much they charged us, but it was a reasonable price. We were quite fine with what they charged us. They did very good work. They were very responsive. The people that came in and did the work were absolutely excellent.

I was so impressed with the service AirTech provided for our A/C unit, that I decided to proceed with the technician's recommendation for duct cleaning seeing that I had started to have a dark color forming around all my vents in my house due to the dust in the duct system. We bought our house 5 years ago and never cleaned the ducts, not to mention I don't know if the previous owner did either. I have gotten duct cleaning flyers in the mail for $42 for the entire house. I hesitated to go with a company that can pay two "quality" technicians to clean my entire duct system for $42 and still be in business. I called Rod the Manager and asked him about his duct cleaning and pricing. He explained the difference between the $42 job with a negative pressure system that takes about only an hour to an hour and a half, and the rotobrush system that takes about a half a day with a brush that rotates inside the ducts to get the dust out of the ducts. He explained that it is important to clean the whole system not just the ducts but everywhere else the air passes through the furnace and plenums before the duct work. We hired Air-Tech for the job. They were very clean and professional. The total cost $525 and well worth it.

Our air conditioning stopped working one afternoon/evening during our southern california's seasonally late heat wave. We have two kids, a 4 year old and a baby. I was deperate to get our air fixed. I called a few companies and left messages. Air-Tech was the only one that returned my call around 6pm. Rod, the service manager was very professional and understanding to our situation with the kids and our work schedule. He had a technician out to our house first thing in the morning. The technician was very professional and was able to fix the problem right away. Apparently our wires were bad in our compressor. He had the spare parts on his truck and was able to rewire the compressor to get our air conditioning up and running. I was extremely pleased with the prompt response and efficient service provided by Air-Tech. I was able to get back to work at a reasonable time. What prompted me to write this review was the follow up call I received. The next day, Rod (service manager) called back to see if we were satisfied with the service and to make sure everything was taken care of.
Description of Work: Service Call: A/C broke. Rewired the compressor.

Contractor arrived at location right on time and was very friendly and professional. HVAC package unit was not providing cold air. The technician was able to locate a very small leak and we discussed options for repair. R22 refrigerant added to system and he indicated that he would get back to me later in the day with a price quote to replace the condensing coil and a time frame to complete the work. Technician called later in the day and told me that he would need to get back to me the next day with the price quote but I never heard from him again. I will follow up with him soon. Everything went well until the end and I plan to remind him that I still need a price and if they are reasonable will have this company complete the repairs.

They installed a new air-conditioner, heater and ducts throughout the house. They did a beautiful job. I called Air Tech because they were local. They wanted a $30.00 "travel fee".because the serviceman "wasn't coming from here." I set up the appointment and they called the day before and said they wanted to change it because the man had a doctor's appointment. I said OK but wondered why they had only one service man. On the phone I spelled out what the gas company had told me; I needed a new generator and orifice cleaning for my floor furnace. When the man came he called in to their office and then told me that they refused to provide that service. They wanted me to buy a whole new furnace instead. The reason given was that "something else might go wrong", and of course they blamed the person who set up the appointment for getting it wrong. The guy even took a half-hearted stab at charging a service fee. They wasted my time in every way.

Response from Air-Tech Air Conditioning & Heating Inc
WE WOULD LIKE TO APOLOGIZE TO THE CUSTOMER FOR FEELING OUR PRICE OF A STANDARD SERVICE CALL IS UNREASONABLE. FROM THEIR COMMENTS, IF THE CUSTOMER IS TRYING TO AVOID A SERVICE CHARGE, IT MAY HAVE BEEN MORE SUITABLE FOR THE CUSTOMER TO CONTACT THE COMPANY WHO INSTALLED THE UNIT TO FIND OUT IF THEY OFFER ANY KIND OF WARRANTY ON THE INSTALLATION OF A NEW UNIT THEY INSTALLED. OUR STANDARD HOURLY RATE FOR A SERVICE CALL IS $89.00 PER HOUR FOR THE FIRST HOUR REGARDLESS OF HOW LONG OUR TECH IS AT THE CALL, PLUS THE COST OF ANY PARTS. IF THE TECH IS THERE LONGER THAN AN HOUR, WE CHARGE IN INCREMENTS OF EVERY 15 MINUTES THERE AFTER. EACH SERVICE CALL IS DIFFERENT DEPENDING ON THE PROBLEM WITH THE UNIT. SOME UNITS MAY HAVE A SIMPLE SOLUTION AND OUR TECH CAN FIX THE UNIT WITH SPARE PARTS ON HIS TRUCK, WHILE OTHER PROBLEMS ARE DIAGNOSED AND REQUIRE US TO ORDER PARTS AND RETURN AT A LATER DATE. IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE, THE PARTS MAY HAVE BEEN FREE SINCE MOST MANUFACTURERS OFFER A 5 YEAR WARRANTY ON ALL PARTS. BEFORE WE DO ANYTHING, WE ALWAYS INFORM THE CUSTOMER IF THE PROBLEM IS GOING TO REQUIRE US TO COME BACK AT A LATER DATE, ORDER REPLACEMENT PARTS, WHICH WILL SOMETIMES RESULT IN FURTHER LABOR CHARGES. I AM HAPPY TO EXPLAIN THIS IN MORE DETAIL SHOULD THE CUSTOMER HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. AGAIN, WE APOLOGIZE THAT THE CUSTOMER FEELS OUR STANDARD RATE IS UNREASONABLE, BUT THIS IS OUR BUSINESS PRACTICE IN ORDER TO COVER OUR COSTS OF BUSINESS.

I contacted 3 HVAC companies Besides Air Tech, there was another that had outstanding ratings on Angie's List. Rod Rodriquez of Air Tech was very patient in answering all of my questions through email and the phone. This was important since I work overseas and could not afford much face time. Rod worked with me in coming up with a system and cost that met all of our needs. The work started and completed on schedule. Rod and his team were friendly, courteous and professional. They were careful in cleaning up at the end of the day. The Bryant system that I put in was top of the line with all the latest electronics. Air Tech worked diligently to ensure that the system was running perfectly and until I was completely satisfied. After the job was complete, Rod contacted us to make sure that things were working fine and came back to give us a short tutorial on how to operate the system. Overall, a great experience in working with Air Tech.

Trying to find an air-conditioning specialist in the dog days of summer is always difficult but Air-Tech was the only one of three Angie's List firms that even returned our call. It took about eight days for the move to actually happen but prior to the move the owner personally came out and evaluated the situation (unit age, working condition, difficulty to move and best storage location) and gave his recommendations. The move successfully occurred as scheduled.

The only delay in the process was in getting the parts in, which took about 10 days. Other than that, the initial visit, and the visit for installation, was pretty much on track and the work was good. I can't say if the price is competitive, because the competition never returned my phone calls.

We were very pleased. Larry gave us good advice on where to relocate the unit. He and his crew were very conscientious and clean. Another proposal included moving the existing lines on the outside of the house. Larry doesn't like the way that looks, so he had his crew go under the house and relocate the line beneath the house; much better aesthetically!
