Guillermo from Air Tech was very professional, he was on time and repaired our furnace. The estimate was what we paid. It was a good experience dealing with this company.
Description of Work: Our Furnace wouldn't turn on, so we called Air Tech to come out and take a look. Guillermo showed up on time, he explained everything he was going to do, and was very professional.

This was a very different experience from my last experience with another company (report submitted to Angie's list) - the technician was demonstratively competent - he knew almost immediately what was wrong with my unit and it was NOT what was reported by the previous company - and it was SIGNIFICANTLY less expensive than quoted by them as well. The Air Tech technician evoked my confidence. Guillermo (sp?) clearly has integrity in his work in quality and performed it efficiently and with professionalism. I was so impressed I signed up for a maintenance agreement that day! Highly recommended!
Description of Work: The technician performed a standard maintenance service on the compressor and main unit. He replaced the filter on the air return and, finally he repaired the unit by replacing the thermostat.

After searching Angie's List for a nearby AC service, I landed on Air Tech as both near and highly-rated. I called the office late in the day on the 29th and spoke with a delightful and professional scheduler. She set me up with a service call for the following day -- which, in the middle of heat wave, made me happy in itself. The following day Guillermo arrived as scheduled. He was cheerful, knowledgeable, and completely professional -- even insisting on putting protective booties over his shoes out of habit, though I told him it really wasn't necessary. It really was an ideal visit. I used to own restaurants and know a bit about HVAC systems, and I was pleased at how direct and efficient Guillermo was about handling the situation. While a needed part was brought out to him, he performed a routine service of my system. He used a dropcloth and cleaned up after himself. All in, the visit took maybe an hour and a half. I was satisfied enough I signed up for a service contract (I figure after years of ignoring the system, I can give it some love for awhile ;-).
Description of Work: My AC had broken down. The problem was diagnosed and a burnt-out capacitor replaced. My cooling system was given a routine maintenance service (at an Angie's List discount, cheerfully honored).

Explained the entire process before the job started. They arrived on time and I was shown exaclty where the equipment was being placed as well as shown placement options. I was given an opportunity to change mind on the placement. They did a beautiful job patching and cleaned up all debris. Once complete showed me how to use the unit.

We met withGuilmerro who did a very good review of each unit - he serviced each one and change filters and took care of an issue we had with one unit in 2010. He also gave some ideas to help with an upstairs heat issue we have during the summer. He advised us about Attic heat withdrawal fans which will hopefully take the heat out much more effeciently. He will install in a few weeks We were also offered an annual service package - it seems a little pricy.
Description of Work: We have three units that needed to be service (annual service) and one which need to be checked for its discharge.

I have a rental unit approx. 70 miles south of where I live and work. The AC wasn't working. My very irate tenant (understandably) After calling friends for some help, I gave up. I went to Angies list for help, This is where I found Air-Tech.They were very accomodating. They were willing to make an appt. after hours as well as doing the needed repair after my tenant got home form work . My tenant was happy, I was happy. I had a very postive experience with Air-Tech and would use their services in the future. Thanks to the ladies in the office and Guillermo (tech) who made it go smooth. RZ

At the request of our landlord (who had not had the central heating and air serviced while they owned the house), we found AirTech on Angie's List and gave them a call. The person who answered the phone was able to book a technician in a few days and provide a firm price for the inspection. The technician, Guiermo, took great care to perform a thorough inspection and show me some considerable problems with the existing system. He advised me of what was necessary to maintain safe operation, what could be put-off until additional decisions were made, and what the risks were. AirTech gets an A+ in my book.

First off, their technician, Guillermo, was top notch! He was as professional as they come. On time, courteous and knowledgable. What else can a customer ask for! I called Air Tech to check out a noisy air duct to see what can be done. The tech, Guillermo, was very thorough in checking out the duct work and the AC/heat pump unit. I also too advantage of the free AC check while he was out here. He was patient in explaining my system, which he thought was in good condition, so his recommendation was to extend the duct by about 10 feet through another closet, so the main air flow from the 5 ton unit isn't shooting directly into the suspected noisy vent before flowing out to the rest of the condo. Simple solution and I'll post back to share the result of the recommendation.

Overall, really nice job from a very professional outfit.
Description of Work: I hired Air-Tech to replace the ventilation duct from our furnace. Guillermo, the technician, was very courteous and professional. What really impressed me was his very clear and timely communication. He was running late from an earlier job in Studio City, but called before his service window to reset expectations with me, which allowed me to take care of other business rather than sitting around waiting. Once here, he walked me through the work, before and after, to ensure I was satisfied.

I am extremely please with the work done by Rod and Air Tech on our Glendale house. Our ductwork, exposed underneath our hillside home, was bare with little or no insulation remaining. Rod suggested the right product (Circle liner with insulation inside the duct) whereas some of the other quotes I got suggested products that would not have been a good long term fix. My wife and I immediately felt the difference with the R-19 insulation installed under the house. All of the ductwork looks neat, solidly installed and tightly sealed. I also felt that the price was very competitive considering all of the work that was done and the quality of materials. I have read some of the other negative comments regarding Air Tech regarding service. I did not have any such experience. I did have to wait for my duct work to be ordered and installed but that is expected. When I called Rod or the office with any questions he did always get back to me -perhaps not as fast as some would like - but as fast as one would expect from a company that is busy because it does good work.
Description of Work: From the contract: 1. Installed all new circle line hard pipe A/C ductwork under house with 1/2" insulation (remove and dispose old ductwork) 2. Relocate 2 floor registers 3. Seal all metal duct with water proof duct sealer 4. Install balancing dampers 5. Install 1 new digital thermostat 6. Clean electrical air intake on heater. 7. Install R-19 value installation under exposed areas of house

This company installed the old heating and air conditioning system in my father's house and continued to maintain it after his death last year. During an inspection by the gas company I was told that the heater wasn't venting properly and would need to be repaired before it could be used. Air Tech sent a technician to service the heater who informed me that it could not be repaired because the old ductwork contained asbestos. He recommended installing a new heater (the old one was over 20 years old) that would allow the venting to run straight under the house to the outside instead of up through the roof. Larry Rodriguez came out a few days later and gave me two written estimates -- one for a completely new system (heat and air) and one just for the heater. He said the air conditioner was still working fine but gave me the option of replacing that at the same time. I decided on only replacing the heater and the estimate included everything - nothing was left to chance. I knew exactly what they were going to use and even the brand name/model of all parts. We settled on a start date (Monday) and I received a confirming telephone call the Friday before confirming the date and time. On Monday they had not received all the materials and called me immediately (7:30 a.m.) to say they would not be able to start until later in the day, but that they would finish that day as promised. Air Tech sent a team of two installers who stayed until everything was finished and tested (about 7:30 p.m.) and a third technician came back a few days later to install a new vent that would allow me to change the filter without going downstairs to the basement. Both times they were very respectful of me and the house and careful to lay down a tarp and clean up after themselves. Within a week I received a complete statement showing all charges and payments, all services rendered; and forms and information for submitting a rebate request to the gas company and for receiving a federal tax credit! Nancy in the office was very helpful on the telephone whenever I called and kept me informed of all they would do, every step of the way. I will definitely continue to use them to maintain my new system.

The Air Tech service technician was courteous, competent, and professional. He first repaired our old HVAC unit after it stopped working. When the unit failed again a few months later, we decided to buy a new one, as the old one seemed to be at the end of its life. We did not have functioning heating and have an infant, so time was of the essence in replacing the old unit. Air Tech scheduled the installation of the new unit as soon as was possible. So far so good. However, problems arose with the installation: 1) The installation was carried out sloppily. For example, Air Tech connected the new unit to the old ducts. There was some insulation material in these old ducts, which was easily accessible but partially decayed and moldy and wet from recent heavy rain that seemed to have leaked into the ducts. The installers removed the old insulation material only after repeated requests, and they only seemed willing to do as much as was necessary as to get us off their backs. (In the end, some old insulation material remained in the ducts, and pieces of it came out the vents in the house when we started using the unit.) With this and several other issues, we would have been happy to cover the (marginal) extra cost of doing the work right if Air Tech would have felt this was not included in the contract. (Our understanding was that it was included.) But the issue did not seem to be costs but rather the installers' unwillingness to complete the work to adequate standards. Another example of Air Tech's sloppiness is that they at first did not install wooden fencing around the new HVAC unit, which City Code requires as a visual shield. The city inspector pointed out that he had reminded the company previously of the necessity to install such fencing. Air Tech then build a fence; it is the most poorly built wooden construction I have seen. Screws were violently drilled through the wood lath, which cracked at almost every screw. (I wish we could upload pictures--I have them.) 2) The installers damaged the roof membrane, a highly reflective white membrane (an expensive, energy-efficient roof, about a year old). They did not cover the membrane while they were working with the heavy equipment on the roof, leading to extensive damage of the membrane by foot traffic. They left, for example, new screws that they lost during the installation on the roof; stepping on them could easily penetrate the membrane and lead to leaks. The roof had a lifetime warranty. The roofers, which had to carry out repairs of erroneous cuts into the roofing membrane by Air Tech, now refuse to warranty the section of the roof around the new HVAC unit. (In the roofers' words, Air Tech's work was "grossly negligent.") 3) As problems arose in the installation process, it was essentially impossible to reach a person of competence and authority at Air Tech. The only phone number to which customers get access is that of a front office, staffed by someone with essentially no expertise in HVAC systems and their installations. This led to frustrating phone calls in which we tried to explain to the office staff what the problems were that arose; she passed this on (more of less completely) to others, who then might try to call us back hours later. If we were not available when they called, the process would start over, with a call to the front office etc. Numerous difficulties arose as a result, and messages (e.g., about scheduling roof repair) were not or not completely passed on to those who make decisions. Evidently, Air Tech considers the time of their more skilled staff to be more valuable than that of their customers. We disagree. 4) The situation with the front office became grotesque when we complained that forms for energy-efficiency rebates, which Air Tech was to complete, were not filled out correctly. It took two emails and several phone calls (in which in the end we implored them to check with her supervisors) to convince the front office that the forms were in fact filled out incorrectly. Time was important here, as the rebate programs to which the forms had to be submitted was running out of funds. The incompetence of the front office and lack of efficient communication led to unnecessary delays, which may have cost us significant rebates. The communication problems could easily be avoided if customers had direct access to someone with expertise and authority in the company, as is common with all other contractors I have worked with. But it is Air Tech's policy to deny customers such direct access. Air Tech wants to choose when they contact their customers. This went so far that, after several complaints, the owner of the company suddenly, after Air Tech's work was claimed to be complete, showed up on our roof, without announcing himself to us inside the house. Roofers were working there to repair damage caused by Air Tech and complained about interference with their work by Air Tech. The owner made no apologies about the damage to the roof and instead tried to argue that the roofers (who were not working with heavy equipment and were repairing the roofing membrane) also had not laid down protective cover on the roof.
Description of Work: Air Tech first serviced our old heating/air-conditioning unit and attempted to repair it. Eventually we purchased a new heating/air-conditioning rooftop unit from them, and they installed it.

I like the system but really hated the service from the company as far as response to my needs.
Description of Work: Good salesman at the front end, explaining the options. We got three bids and liked this gentleman's expertise the best. They did a complete installation of heating and air conditioning. We were not in the house for several days to avoid the construction. On return, the house was so dirty and dusty from the installation that we had to employ a cleaning service that sent 6 people out for three hours to clean the entire house for a total of $225. The telephone, land line, in the house did not work on our return nor did the security system. The heating system did not work when we arrived home on a cool evening yet we had been told the job was complete and all the money ($12,000) had been taken out of my credit card. The next day someone showed up to get it turned on and they did not know how to get it running. The service man went from the attic to the crawl space looking for how to get it functioning. I complained about the phone and security system and they never called me back. I paid At&t a service call to be told it was the security system and a line had been compromised in the attic during the airtech installation. It took two service calls and $140 and three days without phone or security to get new lines run. AirTech also did not clean or secure all the areas that they ripped into. When I asked the office secretary to forward my bills and requests for contact I got no reply or calls back.

They charged me for the estimate. They said that the heater was unrepairable because they did not make the parts anymore. They told me that the floor heater had to be replaced with a wall heater. However I called someone else and the other company was able to easily repair the heater. This is a large company that was out to over-charge me.

These were problems that had been bothering me for a long time but I didn't know how to go about fixing them. My experience with AirTech was great from start to finish. I called not knowing if they could fix the problems, but after I described them over the phone, they told me they should be able to take care of both of them. They were busy because it had been so hot but were able to address my issues within a couple of days. Tom was very polite and personable, even after climbing around in the hot attic, and diagnosed and fixed the problems right away. He also suggested some maintenance I could do myself and pointed out some other issues I should take care of (a newer fan in the attic that was not installed to be earthquake safe). I am delighted that the house fan now works so much better--and silently!-- and was happy to have both dryer vent and house fan repaired for a reasonable price.

Our heatpump stopped cooling in the middle of the afternoon on a hot day. We called for service. We are not customers, so they did not come out within 24 hours. They were out in about three days. The technician traced the problem to a failed dual capacitor and replaced it. He recommended additional work to insulate the low-voltage wiring, to prevent failure of the wiring exposed to the sun. They scheduled for a few days later and came out and did that. At the same time, they replaced our old mechanical thermostat with a digital one. It gives us an accurate temperature reading and keeps the temperature at where we set it. It is a big improvement over the original thermostat installed in 1976. We were quite pleased with the work and with their professionalism. As a result, we signed up for semi-annual maintenance with them, part of their final bill. We are now customers of a local outfit about three miles from our home. We anticipate a good relationship with them.

I called and asked if they serviced gravity heaters. The woman's, her name was Nancy, first response was "gravity heater?" Then I explained that my house was built in the 1920s. She then said, we don't service old heaters because they are dangerous and we only replace them. Her tone was rude and impatient. I then told her thanks and hung up. I thought that was totally unprofessional and wrong. My old gravity heater is not dangerous. It would of caused me great distress thinking my family and I were in danger if I didn't know better. The Southern California Gas Company come out a week ago to check my gravity heater and to turn of the pilot light for the summer. The serviceman told me that my gravity works well and that all I need is to get the pilot light secured. It is a service the Gas Company does not provide so i would have to call a contractor. I also asked him what he thinks of these old heaters and he said they are great because they are quiet and they do not dry the air like a forced air unit would. I also asked him my old heater was safe and he said yes once I get the pilot light secured. He was not the only Gas Company service man I have poised this safety question with. I have asked others in the past because my concern for safety. They all have told me YES. I other words, it is inappropriate and unprofessional for Nancy who answer phones for a heating and air conditioning service to say they are dangerous and implying they should be replaced. It is as though she is trying to scare me into getting a new heater. How unpleasant when one calls for service and is greated by an ignorant and rude clerk who is trying to sell me something I don't want or need! It sure doesn't reflect well on the company.
Description of Work: Due to the good reviews on Angie's list, I called this company to get an estimate for service on my gravity heater.

Response from Air-Tech Air Conditioning & Heating Inc
We thank you for bringing this situation to our attention so we have an opportunity to resolve the issue at hand. As the owner of the company, I would like to personally apologize for the rude and inappropriate tone from our office associate. We have addressed the issue and currently are working on our business etiquette. With regards to the information relayed about the furnace, our office associate was confused. As a policy, we don’t work on premier consolidated furnaces due to the fire hazard issues that have been correlated with those particular furnaces. Generally we suggest replacing these furnaces as a safety precaution instead of trying to fix them and still being exposed to the risk of a fire. Our office associate got the customer’s furnace and the premier consolidated furnaces confused and unfortunately misinformed the customer. Air-Tech strives to have top quality customer service, and we would like to apologize again for the overall bad experience. Unfortunately situations like these sometimes do occur, but we take all complaints seriously and try to improve our policies and culture of the company from them.

The service technician, Tom, was very punctual, knowledgeable, courteous and friendly. Also, when I called to schedule them, the lady on the phone gave me a base quote of $119 plus cost of filter and some other stuff. When the technician was finished and gave me a final cost of $136. I asked if I can get a discount since we're an Angie's list member. He called his office to check if he can do it. The office ok'd it and the final charge went down to the base fee of $119 with a printed coupon from the website.

Excellent. Rod was able to give us an accurate estimate for the cost of the job. He arrived on time. He was very conscientious about not tracking dirt and dust in the house (wore booties) without our asking. This was an important observation he made since we have white carpeting.
Description of Work: Cleaned all air conditioning/heating ducts. Was very thorough.
