The company pricing is fair. The people are professional, both on the phone as well as the person that came out to do the service. I would use this company again at the drop of a hat.
Description of Work: The service person came on time to unclog the kitchen sink, after handling this fairly quickly he offered to do any others at a discounted rate since he was already out. We had him do a drain clearing of one of the bathrooms. Thiis was done quickly, wrote up a bill and was gone before we knew it.

I called them at around 11pm at night. And the dispatcher was responsive and told me that she will have the person on call contact me to discuss my drainage issue. After about 10 min, I got my phone call. I described the problem and the guy was nice enough to let me know that yes, he could come out that night, but if I'm not going to use the water for now, it would save me $100 to just to wait till morning to have them come service it. It was a good idea. So he left a note for his company to schedule someone to come out first thing in the morning. I got a phone call promptly at around 7am. They sent a guy, Manny, to me within an hour of the call. But we couldn't find the main drain (I had just moved into the new house and had no idea where anything was), so Manny said they would have to drain from the roof vent--but he couldn't do it, so he called the company to send someone else. They sent me George, who was great! He walked around the house, also couldn't find the main drain, then went on the roof, but couldn't use any of the vents because they were too small, and eventually decided to take out one of the toilets to do the drain. We did that, and then tested out the water for all three bathrooms--one of them was still stuck. So George does another look around, and then we discover that the main drain was at the back wall of the house, behind a storage unit! George then does another drain from there, and we repeat the process of roto-ing and testing. It took a total of over 2 hours from beginning to finish, and George kept a great attitude the whole time. He did his work diligently and made sure to wipe and clean away any mess that was created. He didn't charge me for all that extra time, nor for carrying his heavy machine up the steps at the back of the house. I love this company. They do honest, good quality work, and their staff are all very nice and responsive, and I always felt like I was taken care of. And while I don't have any comparison, it seems that the price was very reasonable.
Description of Work: I was having trouble with the main drain of my house. As we were about to turn in for the night, our toilets and showers backed up and water started overflowing in two of our three bathrooms. I called Drain Co because they had great reviews online and had 24 hour emergency service.

I called Brian Kaiser Plumbing who referred us to The Drain Co, as BKP does not clean drains. I called The Drain Co who scheduled our same-day appointment for 2:30 pm to avoid the overtime rate which starts at 3:30 pm. The technician did not arrive at the house until 5:30 pm. In all fairness, even though I didn't enjoy waiting 3 extra hours, the technician/plumber Oscar, had difficult jobs at his previous sites, which terribly delayed him. I called the office at 2:30 pm to check in and the office rep. called back 30 minutes later to explain the delay and called again another time to offer a status report and apology. When Oscar finally arrived he was professional and efficient, and worked as quickly and neatly as he could. He explained what happened, how to avoid the problem in the future and went to work. Pleased with the service and will use The Drain Co again.
Description of Work: Smelly, stagnant puddle of water showed up in the bath tub, one toilet would not flush while the other began to leak at the base. Turned out we had a clog in the sewer pipe.

It's Christmas day and our kitchen drain is plugged up. What to do? Get on Angies List and look up and quot;plumbers-drain cleaningand quot;. There on the front page is listed (among others) The Drain Company. Highly rated, and a local business in Northridge. (Always like to support local businesses) I check out their prices and note that since it's a holiday, I'll be facing double time charges. But a sink full of dirty dishes says to bite the bullet. Hopefully it won't take too long. (I wonder just what it was that my wife put down the disposal that is causing the problem. Looked like potato debris when I tried to clear the drain with a plumber's helper) I call The Drain Co and speak with Star, who is a very pleasant person, and tells me she can have a drain tech to my house in an hour, and reminds me about the holiday rate. We set-up the appointment and my wife smiles for the first time today. The tech, Ken, is about an hour late, but explains that he is very busy today. and quot;So what did your wife put down the disposal?and quot; asks Ken, and quot;Potatoes?and quot; Surprised he nailed it on the first guess, I have to ask, and quot; How'd you know?and quot; and quot;Oh, just you and about a million others, and quot; Ken informs me with a smile. My wife is off the hook. Ken gets right to work, and in less than fifteen minutes, he has the drain running free and has even cleaned up the sink area. and quot; This is the easiest one I've done today, and quot; says Ken. Wow. I'm impressed. Worth the holiday rate, but here's another surprise; Ken only charges me the standard fifty-five dollars. I figure maybe it's because it was so easy. Hey, am I going to argue? Not long after Ken leaves, the phone rings. It's Star, informing me that Ken forgot about the holiday rate, but not to worry, the company is standing behind the price he quoted. Well, now I am really impressed. Nice people, good job, and fair-minded - what's not to like? If you have a problem with your drains, I can strongly recommend the folks at The Drain Company. I think you will be pleased with the experience. And remind your wife to run the water after the disposal does its job to carry the debris out to the main drain.
Description of Work: The drain tech ran a snake down the kitchen drain to the plugged material and cleared the obstruction, freeing the drain. It was not necessary to remove any of the plumbing to perform the proceedure.

Our kitchen drain became completely stopped on Christmas Eve during a large party. We decided to call on Christmas morning just to get the ball rolling. We were shocked to hear they would come right out on CHRISTMAS DAY FOR ONLY $110!!!. This is HALF what most plumbers charge for an emergency call, not on a holiday. The serviceman was fast, friendly and efficient. Hardly interrupted our holiday. He seemed genuinely glad for the business.

My kitchen sink was clogged. I called around 10 in the morning to get an afternoon appointment, left a message. They called back within a half hour and set a window of 5-7pm. The tech arrived right at 5pm. He had to take apart pipe under sink to get the clog cleared, and then snaked the line. It took about a half hour total. The tech was very nice and professional. Because I had the appointment at 5, it was "overtime," but I was expecting that because their website clearly states the hours and prices. I thought the price was fair for what was done. Overall, a good experience. I will use them again.

Andy showed up and got right to work. He explained to me everything he was doing as he worked. He advised me of all my options and there was no pressure sales at all. Andy was very professional and easy to work with. I will have him back again for the annual maintenance of my main sewer line to remove any new root growth. I highly recommend Andy and the Drain Company!
Description of Work: Toilet was plugged up. Andy rooted the toilet line and got that working well. As preventive maintenance I also had him auger our main sewer line out to the street just to be on the safe side. I'm glad I did as he removed a quite lot of roots that were slowing the flow. I could see every time the auger hit a bunch of roots. It's a lot less expensive to have him auger it out now then to wait until the line is plugged up with larger roots and have to replace the entire main line. He advised me that it should be done at least every year to avoid the pipe from being plugged up by roots.

We had an unprecidented rainstorm here in the San Fernando Valley, which overwhelmed our exterior surface drains. Mud, debris, roots and excessive water caused them to clog up, so the surface water around our house couldn't drain. As a results, our patio flooded and was perilously close to coming in under our sliding glass doors. We have wood floors which I desperately tried to protect by placing dry towels up against the sliding patio door sills. After reading the Angies reviews of the Drain Company, I called them first thing Monday morning. Star answered the phone, took my information and assurred me that they could get a technician out by 10:30 am. By 10:30, their technician, Manny, arrived, and worked tirelessly for over three hours snaking out my drains. There were many roots in the lines, and many sublines fed into the main drains. Manny hung in there and worked until he had the drains cleared. Later on that afternoon, Star called back to make sure the job had gone well, and that I was a satisfied customer. I am!

It was a wet December day and I was in the middle of doing some laundry and some other things around the house (cleaning house and getting ready for some guests) and I noticed that the water was backing up and my home remedies weren't working so I tried calling a number of people and everybody was quite busy because we'd had a lot more rain than anyone had anticipated, but I called The Drain Company and they said they would send out somebody within an hour. The guy came out and he went right to work and completed the work. Everything went well. He was quite friendly and quite professional. About 6 days later, the drain clogged again so I called The Drain Company and they said they would come out and fix it for free this time because I didn't get that effect and they exactly did that. I did get a call from (The Drain Company's operational people) the president of the company to see if I was satisfied. I was really impressed with their professionalism. They came out, they did the job, they knew what they were doing and they gave me advice as to if this happens again what I would need to do next time. Also if the drain line had to be repaired, they suggested a technique that I can use which would same me thousands of dollars. I checked into that technique with a friend of mine who works in construction and he said that the technique is the way to go. All in all they did a great job. I would say if the problem is a clogged drain, I wouldn't go to a plumber, I would go to someone who works on that. In other words, it's similar to if I need surgery, I wouldn't go to my family doctor to have him do it. He may be a professional and does everything or a lot of things right, but if I need a heart surgery I would go to a heart surgeon (Cardiologist) and I find that a professional problem like this, they do a good job. They've got the tools and they know exactly what they have to do. They are excellent overall. The price was reasonable because I expected a $100 or more. Their quality was good. They did their job and when something reoccurred they were quite professional about it. They were very responsive. They were busy, but they said “We understand your problem. We have a guy who can be out there in an hour” and within an hour the guy came out and did the work.

Had a back up in our tub and separate shower. The way our sewer line is laid out this happens 1 or 2 times a year. Called the Drain Co. and talked with the dispatch. Within 10 minutes had a response from the plumber who was then on her way. She arrived, unloaded, cleaned the main line out, cleaned up and was finished within 45 minutes. Excellent service, excellent work and will use them again for this on-going problem.

The Drain Company brought a very long sewer line saga (we'd been dealing with problems with this for a few years before finding this company) to a happy ending with the least amount of hassle I've experienced in a long time. We had been dealing with an on-again off-again sewer line problem for a couple years. The latest episode did not go away as in previous episodes. I called a plumber recommended on Angie's List, but he was unavailable because he was leaving for vacation. He referred me to The Drain Company. I called and talked to Star--the company owner-- she assessed what we needed and two guys were promptly dispatched. They were friendly and professional. They spent a great deal of time and care getting their equipment into place---not an easy task as our house is on a steep hill. After concluding that the problem was not in the line within the house, they proceeded to work their snake on the line between the house and the street. They concluded that the line was broken, not clogged. Star called me after speaking with the workmen, and told me that she would call the referring plumber to consult on who to call in to use a camera to investigate further. She assured me that she would not leave me hanging. In an hour (or less) she called back and said that she and the referring plumber agreed on the best person to call for the camera work. She told me that she would call him and arrange for him to contact me. Shortly thereafter, I received a call from the plumber with the camera who arranged a time to the house. He performed the work and the problem is solved. This report is about The Drain Company--and although they did not make the final repair, they were the reason we were able to get the problem fixed promptly and with zero hassle. Star, the owner of The Drain Company, is a true professional. She is very consumer friendly, honest, trustworthy and very dependable. I am so grateful to her for the excellent level of service and support her company delivered.
Description of Work: The Drain Company sent two workers to our home to snake our sewer line. Our sewer line was backing up and we thought we had a clog in the line. They did a thorough job and concluded that the problem was not a clog but something further down the line. They then snaked the sewer line between the house and the street and concluded that the problem was at the line near the street. Referred us to a plumber with a camera who could accurately diagnose the problem. This person showed up promptly and was able to assess the problem and fix it.

My tub/shower drain was clogged. I called The Drain company from Angie's list as I had just joined the company so i cook find some work man for painting and stuff. I called The Drain co and Star answered the phone. She was very polite and gave me rates for having a plumber come out. I thought i would have to wait until saturday but she said they could have someone out the same day i called. This has never happened when i called other plumbers. They sent a plumber out . His name was Raymond. He was very nice and polite too.. She tried to snake my drain buy it would not unclog.. She said he would have to cut the pipe and put a new one in. He then went to get the parts he neededand pick up a helper. He came back when he said he would. I did not have to wait for him. He had the job done and its great...I also had to call back and Star sent him out again and he was very nice even though it was my miss understanding of a part on the shower. Raymond came back out and showed me what i was doing wrong. He was very nice and helpfull. This is a great company. I would use them again..

Overall, the experience was favorable although I was charged an amount for the "overtime" meaning the tech came out to the house after 5PM. I could have waited for another day but since it was Friday, I figured I'd better get things fixed before the slow draining occured for several more days. Even so, I thought the amount charged was reasonable for the work completed. The tech was knowledgable and he spent only about 20-30 minutes to complete the job. Its now been a month with no problems. The tech also advised on how to prevent the problem in the future.

Christmas Eve is possibly the worst night of the year to have your main drain overflow. I called 2 other companies who didn't respond. However, The Drain Co. sent technician Andy to our house within 2 hours. Andy and his son lugged their 300 pound rooter down the steep hillside steps of our backyard in the dark, where they spent almost 2 hours trying to clear the drain. No success, as the roots were pervasive. When Andy called his boss Star, she told them not to charge me and said she would come the next day -- Christmas! -- to try her luck personally. She arrived the next morning with her partner Mark and once again carried the 300 pound machine down the hill. This time they used a camera to identify the problem and then were able to employ the rooter to successfully open the drain. Star refused to charge me for the camera service, just $144.50 for all the time and energy and expertise they and Andy used to allow the drain to function again. They told me to call a company that does jet spraying to really take care of the root problem and suggested I spray the line on an annual basis. Then Star power-washed the site of the sewer spill and called the next day to inquire how their work had been and to wish me a happy new year. Star is personable, more than fair, and a terrific businesswoman, whom I would not hesitate to call again for similar services. I highly recommend her and her company.

Our sewer line backed up and flowed out of the toilet, very upsetting. We had gone to the local hardware store and rented equipment to snake out the drain twice in the last week, but the sewer kept backing up. We called an Angie's List recommended plumber, Brian Kaiser, and he sent us to The Drain Co. Cleaning drains is all that the company does, and Star was very reassuring about why they would succeed where our home-grown effort had failed. The truck arrived in under an hour from the time that I called, they went right to work, and got the drain cleared. Because we had the problem recur when we did this ourselves, they assured us that they give a 30-day warranty on the work so that if it happens again right away, they come back and do it again. Then they hosed down the driveway which was a real blessing. We paid $36 each time we rented the snake for a total of $72, and The Drain Co. charged $89.50, so it was not that great a difference. We should have called them the first time, and we will do that next time.

If more than one drain is clogged in your home, and water is backing up, it's likely jammed between the house and the curb. If you don't have an easy clean out, invest in one. I did. Prior to discovering this service, I used what is likely the most-well-known national rooter service. They made a big production of cleaning the drain, with the first guy calling for backup, which of course meant the price went up. This might have still been okay, given that it was before I put in the new clean out in the front of my house. But these 2 guys (again, not Manny and The Drain Co.) really began to shake me down for money under the table, to the point where they started commenting on "all the nice things in my home," in such a way to make it clear that if I didn't take care of them, my nice stuff might disappear when I wasn't there. Where I'm from it's easier to pay off such thugs and never see them again than to have your house broken into or some other payback. So on top of the increased fee, and giving them $20 cash each, they still wanted me to buy some of their national company's product for killing tree roots under the table. I bought some, but made it clear they'd have to put in on the bill because that was all the cash I had. It'd been so long since they sold it legitimately, that they had to scramble to figure out the company's price. Realizing they'd squeezed me all they could, they finally left. So having spent well over $200 with these guys (and that was back in the '90s when that was a bit more money than today, I made a point to have an easy clean out installed. My advice: 1) Put in an easy clean out at the point where your sewer line meets your house. 2) Call The Drain Co., ask for Manny, and have him clean the line between your house and street when you get a clog. 90% of the time, that's where your problem will be. If you want to be proactive, have him come out once a year or every other year to do the same. 3) Don't get conned by other fast-talking roto companies just looking to pad the bill. 4) Trust your gut and be careful who you let in your house.
Description of Work: Ask for Manny! This is the second time I've used this service and Manny. We have a problem with tree roots growing into our main drain between the house and the street. Has been several years since we've needed this done, but I was happy Manny was still part of the team. Manny comes out quickly and is super nice.

Description of Work: They came out and snaked out a drain and removed the roots that were plugging things up.

I have a junction where the kitchen and laundry drain lines meet that routinely backs up every couple of years due to clogs. THE DRAIN CO. came well recommended through Angie's List and performed all services as promised. Plumbers were prompt, polite and professional. A good experience.
Description of Work: On 4/28/08 -- They cleared kitchen and laundry drain line through 2" c/o to main. Also hydro jetted same.
