This review is on behalf of my friend who just hired them: Greg, his foreman Chris, and the rest of the team were absolutely fantastic. We bought a tudor-style home in Sacramento built in the 1920s whose electrical we wanted to make safe and modernize. The house still had knob-and-tube wiring for 3/4 of the house (not to mention insulation laying over/under it), about 1 or 2 outlets per room, exposed and energized circuit conductors, a flex electrical conduit that was subject to damages, missing GFCI protection in the kitchen. We wanted to make sure that the electricians we hired had experience with older homes and were professional, aside from being capable. Greg came out for the initial quote. Once we hired him, Greg and his foreman came out again ahead of the agreed upon start date to review the needed work. Then when they came back to start the work, they kept us notified of the work progress, any changes, and the remaining schedule. They blocked out two weeks of work but finished in about 4 days. They were even able to climb into this tiny attic crawl space to remove the knob-and-tube wiring that other electricians seemed less willing to do. They even patched up (and paint-matched) any and all holes where old wall outlets used to be. They do everything aboveboard, including permit acquisitions (which they gave us a copy of at the end of the project) and work inspection from an independent person. All of Greg's workers are also insured, which we found out isn't exactly a common thing amongst all licensed electricians. They were professional, always-on-time (if not early), competitive with prices, and experienced with older homes. So if you have major or minor electrical needs, hire them. They're worth every penny!
Description of Work: * Replace knob-and-tube wiring * Bring house electrical outlets up to code - (outlets every six feet and three-prong for grounding). * Add GFCI protection to kitchen * Run flex electrical conduit through the wall to the subarea to the main panel * Place any exposed and energized circuit conductors in junction boxes. * Label panels * Other jobs related to the above

Jeff fixed a plug strip that we had been told by the last electrician we would have to take the wall apart to repair. We had given up on ever using it and now it works fine. He checked all connections, replaced bulbs that were burned out and made sure everything worked.

The technician arrived on time, was friendly, courteous, and professional. He explained what he discovered and what he was doing very clearly. We were very satisfied with the results and would use this company again in the future.
Description of Work: The technician was here to look at two unrelated problems. First, he replaced a possibly failing circuit breaker for the clothes dryer and tightened a loose wire in the electrical box for the dryer plug. Since the problem was intermittent it is difficult to say if this will resolve the problem (the dryer would not work a few days, work a few days, not work a few days, etc.) A Sears technician was out a few days ago and felt that the problem was probably the circuit breaker starting to fail. I thought it was very competent for the technician to also think to check the wiring in the electrical plug (and in fact find a loose connection -- possibly the cause of the intermittent failures) as well as replace the breaker. The second issue was a ceiling fan that would not work. He verified that the fan was getting current and accepting commands from the remote, then reprogrammed the fan to get it working. Another electrician from another company was here several weeks ago and was unable to resolve this problem.

I've used Sconce in the past and have always been pleased with the results. Last week, I emailed Sconce (using Angie's List Messages) a short description of the current problem, told them there was no hurry and to schedule it at their convenience. They apparently had a bit of confusion as to when they would arrive, but they came this morning as I expected and got the small job done right away. When I asked for the bill, I was told that they were sorry about the earlier confusion, and that there would be no charge. You don't come by people like this often, so take advantage when you can!
I can not say enough about Greg and his crew. This was not an easy job. They had to run electrical to four bedrooms and a vaulted ceiling in the family room for the ceiling fans. They installed a floor outlet (which involved cutting through six feet of concrete slab so that they could run conduit), they changed out just about all of the fixtures in the home, relocated a light switch and a chandelier, added outside lighting and a GFI outlet. They also did last minute "honey do's" for me such as changing out light bulbs that I could not reach in the vaulted ceilings. In this age of show up, do the minimum and leave, it was amazing to find a company that put so much pride in their work! If you are reading this review please stop now and call them. I assure you that you will not find a better company than Sconce Electric!

A very good experience from beginning to end. Greg Sconce returned my initial contact phone call within twenty minutes. Within the hour he was here to do the walk-through for the estimate. He was very personable and professional. He gave me the estimate before he left. That amount was the final bill amount. Within the week his crew of three was here to do the work. It was done quickly (within two hours), professionally, and courteously. They cleaned up well, accepted payment by credit card, and were on their way. I highly endorse Sconce Electric!
Description of Work: Swapped a kitchen nook light, swapped the master bedroom ceiling fan, installed surge panel whole house protector at the main panel, added an LED light at back of large under-stairwell closet and swapped incandescent light at the front of closet with an LED light, and reset bathroom light bar at no charge.

Please see the note under what did the provider do.
Description of Work: The provider came out today and replaced a couple of GFI switches that were cutting off my electricity. I had previous work done by Greg's crew last October and they have now come to my house on two separate occasions and diagnosed and fixed my electrical problems. Both times I was not charged anything for the service call even though I would have been willing to pay for the service.

Sconce Electric is fantastic. We've now used them twice (once at our current house, and once before), and both times they've been very professional and done a fantastic job. Super friendly and great attention to detail. I appreciated all they did to keep things clean while working (big drop cloths and a shop vac when drilling or cutting holes). Very well done.

After contacting several electricians, Greg Sconce was the only one willing to work on my sauna, which sits on the outdoor patio. I had not covered the sauna during a prior rainy winter, water had seeped inside, and it no longer heated. Greg had not worked on a sauna before but was able to get it to heat. However it shut down later and would not start again. Greg stopped by for the technical manual, studied it, called the service people at the sauna manufacturing company, and talked to other electricians. Armed with this information, he was willing to make one more attempt at getting the sauna working. He and his crew tried several different "fixes" and (Eureka!) my sauna is once again functioning. I am so grateful to Greg for his persistence, inquisitiveness, and willingness to work outside his comfort zone. These are rare qualities. I was fortunate to find him. Thank you, Angie's List, for making that happen.
Description of Work: Got my sauna up and running.

Excellent service for a fair price. Very honest and helpful. Workmanship was top quality and job was completed efficiently. Clean-up was meticulous. They located the subwoofer cable in the wall, which 2 other electricians and the TV installers were unable to do; added to the cable (which was too short) to allow for connection. Double-checked all work to make sure everything was in working order and there were no problems. Saved me the cost of buying an additional component for stereo/surround system by showing me how current equipment could be utilized. Owner and his crew are quite personable and a pleasure to do business with. Sconce electric will be my go-to company when I do further electrical work and updates in the future.
Description of Work: Added new wall outlet and ground old outlet, checked a wall outlet for problem, found cable in wall for subwoofer and connected, checked oven wiring function.
Greg showed up with his team 10 minutes early and was prepared to start the day. Even when he did the initial estimate walkthrough two months earlier, he was a few minutes early to our meeting. He was professional, polite, and took the time to discuss everything I wanted done so he had all the details. We did a walkthrough of all the work that was to be done the day he came to install everything. I have two inside cats, one of which was incredibly curious and stayed to watch, sniff, and saunter through the worksite to check up on the guys. They all made sure he didn't escape out the door as they were going in and out and he got many pets throughout the day. Greg and his team were all very professional and polite. They did beautiful work which took them into the attic and all throughout the house. They covered all my furniture and cleaned up when they left for lunch, as well as cleaning up after themselves at the end of the day. I would highly recommend Sconce Electrical to my family and friends, and plan to use them for any electrical work on our home in the future.
Description of Work: Fixed issues with non-working electrical outlets, installed outdoor outlet for Christmas lights with a switch to turn the outlet on/off (the electrician's suggestion, and a good one!), installed beautiful recessed dimmer lights in the dining room, moved and centered an existing fan and changed the wall switch out so we could control the lighting and fan speed (it was on an on/off switch and we had to pull the chain to select choices, only the chain was out of reach) , installed recessed dimmer lights in the living room (on two separate switches for movie lighting), installed a bath fan and installed new bathroom light fixture.

Sconce Electric has been out numerous times in the last year. Greg Sconce always comes out personally to do the bids, and he is there before any work begins. All of his crews have been great. They are courteous, fast and clean. Recently I needed an electric plug moved unexpectedly for a stove replacement. After my frantic phone call, Sconce had someone there in less than an hour. This is just the type of service this company provides. I plan to have Sconce do additional lighting work and also do the work for a home entertainment system. I highly recommend them.

Out of five bids, Sconce Electric had about a median price. The reason I chose Sconce Electric was that they very prompt on a bid response, and came out my house to provide it. They provided very good communication, and the work was done in a very professional manner. I am very satisfied with the work done at my house.

Mr. Sconce's team worked on the electric problems for almost a day before ascertaining that the problem was a break in the neutral line buried outside. They called PG&E, which came out during the night and repaired the line. Sconce spent half of the next day identifying and repairing harm done to many appliances, outlets and breakers, etc. We lost kitchen appliances, TVs, clocks, clothes dryer parts, fan parts needed replacing. The thorough documentation prepared by Mr. Sconce for the insurance company enabled us to recover most of the costs of replacing the appliances. We are still in the process of dealing with PG&E which has been slow in responding to our claim.

I have been hiring Sconce Electric for various projects over the last couple years. They always do excellent work and are fairly priced. They've done everything in the past from numerous recessed lighting installs to under-cabinet lighting and wiring my spa in my backyard. I'm always happy with their work when they leave. They never make a mess, and they always arrive when they say they will. The communication is fantastic. If for some reason, they happen to run late, they CALL YOU to give you a heads up! Let me tell you: Many contractors don't have the courtesy to do that, so it's very nice to have one that will. Even so, they're almost always on time, and they even try to squeeze me in earlier if they have an unexpected opening, which is always appreciated because I'm flexible. I'm already thinking about my next projects, and I plan to hire them to wire for a new wall-mounted TV and to install an electrical outlet in my backyard. Greg always accommodates my emails and phone calls when we're planning a project. He listens to everything I say about a project and never forgets anything. His team of guys is competent, respectful, fast, thorough, professional. I really don't even think about hiring any other electrician. It wouldn't make any sense.
Description of Work: Greg's team installed 6 recessed lights in a room with little light and also installed 2 sconces on each side of my garage door that are on a timer. They also changed out the chandelier hanging from my cathedral ceiling.

I gave a bid on the scope of work that was shown to us. The walk through was short notice and squeezed time in to look at it. That was Wednesday 9/10/14 , they were told that the bid would be out next week. Monday 9/15/14 at 8:05 am bid was out. If the price was out of what you were thinking it should be , you could of called to ask details. The account name is not who we meet on site. Maybe the account holder should of been there to show what we were for and we would be on the same page. We do are best to serve Angieslist customers . We try to please them all, but sometimes its not a match.

Greg Sconce is a busy electrician with at least a couple of crews. They are very professional and do top-notch work. Because he's so busy, it took a couple of weeks to get on their schedule. I also suspect I could have gotten the work done for a little less. But, with the quality of their work, I think they provide a great value. They don't cut corners, and they were very good about the aesthetics--running new wires under the house and in the walls, no chipped paint or fingerprints, etc. What I especially liked was their follow through. When they initially installed the ceiling fan, they included an optional spacer bar. We wanted it to be a flush mount. Greg came out promptly to install the ceiling fan as a flush mount, and he replaced another fixture we purchased free of charge, even though we offered to pay him for the additional work. I'd will use them again and would give them a strong recommendation.
