They arrived on time. They installed the toilet. Offered to inspect other plumbing items in the house but we were in the middle of a remodel so we asked them not to do anything other than install the toilet. Very professional, wore booties to protect the floors and we have had no problems with the toilet.
Description of Work: Purchased the $299 deal for a new toilet and installation. Work was performed on time, the men were professional and the toilet works great.

Very professional, even had little booties to fit over his shoes. My only regret is that I didn't buy more coupons to replace all the toilets in the house.
Description of Work: Replaced a toilet with a Toto Drake toilet. The Angie's List coupon was for $299, including the toilet. I did some research and that toilet alone costs over $300 new (that's if you buy off internet, not including shipping). So $299 including installation is great. Plumber pointed out some issues with the original install, which he fixed at no cost. Drained old toilet, and brought it to the garage. Took about 45 minutes.

The service person was great. But, the explanation of additional service options was very questionable. After the service person removed the toilet to evaluate why the toilet was leaking, he explained to me why the toilet was leaking. Due to floor tiles that was upgraded from the original, the person previously that placed the toilet put in double wax rims. The repair person said this was not the proper way of installation. He said it needed an adapter to compensate for the floor thickness discrepancy and 1 wax rim. I asked him what the cost was for adding the adapter. He said another $299. He tried to reason by showing me his sheet for additional charges. I passed on adding the adapter and had him double wax rim it. After he left, I thought this was a ridiculous atttempt to gouge me as a consumer. Another $299 charge when all the labor of removing the toilet was already done with my first $299 charge? Hmm, for a part that cost about $18 dollars. How hard is it when everything is apart and you merely have to drop in the adapter? I wouldn't even minded if he charged me an extra $50 for the rim adapter. The service person was great and this review is not a reflection on the service person. It is the about the company's policies. This is not right and not ethical. I'm not stupid.
Description of Work: Toilet rim was leaking on an upstairs bathroom. Reseating of toilet.

Thank you for the feedback. We appreciate hearing when we have failed so that we can hopefully improve our services in the future. It's clear to me that our technician failed in explaining the detail that goes into replacing your closet flange (that's the piece that was roughed in too low below your tile flooring) There's no point in going into technical detail here, but I look forward to contacting you to issue you a 100% reimbursement and to hopefully re-instill some trust in our organization. Thank you again for helping us improve.

The experience was seemless - called their phone and receptionist made a convenient appointment day and time for us. We had bought a house drain cleaning and scope visual inspection of our home's main drain. The plumber arrived on time and was very courteous, friendly and professional. Performed the services - showed me videos of our main drain and did not attempt to "upsell" me on further services.

The worker (we had Sam this time but they are all great) arrived at our house. Looked at the water heater. Advised us of the costs. We had to ask him if it would be smarter to install a new one or fix this one. He was totally honest. We opted to get a new one. We also brought up the issue of whether or not to install a water softener (we are by the beach where the water is extremely hard). Sam then proceeded to install both the water heater and the water softener and had the job done in one afternoon. Kudos Sam! But have to say every single person working with Tom Moffett is an expert, knowledgeable, polite and quick, proficient worker!.
Description of Work: Once again it's was Tom Moffett Plumbing to the rescue! Our water heater went out and they had it replaced within 24 hours of our call. That includes all the work they did. We also got a new water softener in the process. I would suggest you become part of the Diamond Club. Totally worth the money with getting such quick service (which by the way we got on our first call to them also) but also adds awesome warranties. Tom's crew is always professional, polite and awesome workers. This is the best plumbing outfit around. Thanks all of you for your help!!! Richard Birkholm

With the basin, I was able to convince them that it did not need to be rooted, and that the problem with the P Trap. They agreed with that and fixed it. However, I decided not to get the high pressure regulator and went on to fluid masters website and found out that all I needed was a seal on the fill valve. I went and got the seal, followed their instructions and fixed it myself. I also save myself some money. Although they were very nice and put booties on their feet, they misdiagnosed things.
Description of Work: I called them in to fix a leak in the basin in the rental bathroom. It was installed wrong originally. They fixed the P trap, where it was leaking. My other toilet was constantly running and hissing; they told me the pressure going into the house was too high and that I needed a high pressure regulator which would of cost me over $700.

Response from Tom Moffett Plumbing
I'd like to preface our response by thanking you for your honest review and your feedback. Regardless of how "brilliant" we think we are as plumbing professionals, it doesn't mean a thing if we can't relay our knowledge to our clients, so I agree with you full heartedly that we failed you. We do offer 100% satisfaction guaranteed and we take that policy VERY seriously. Please keep an eye on the mail for your reimbursement check. To address your concern with our recommendations for a pressure regulator, let me first explain that our philosophy is to find the source of your plumbing problems. You see, plumbing failures occur due to one or more of either: age of the system, water pressure, water quality, poor installation, or lack of maintenance. We feel it is our duty to get to the root problem and not just repair a symptom of a bigger issue. In your situation, your water pressure is too high. In replacing just the seal on the fill valve, you have temporarily stopped the leak. But if the high water pressure is not corrected, the problem will recur. I'm sorry if our technician didn't explain this philosophy effeciently or that he didn't give you the option of just repairing the fill valve seal with a caveat that we couldn't guarantee the work until the water pressure was rectified. As I stated earlier, we definitly failed. I'm sorry for your less than stellar experience and again, please keep your eyes open for your 100% re-imbursement.

This is the second time I used Tom Moffett Plumbing. My first experience several months ago was very positive and I had confidence in what the technicians were saying and what work was need to be completed. This time I feel they were trying to do any thing that would increasse the cost. For example, they tried to convience my father that he needed to have the hot water heater flush ($299) when they completed that specific service not even six months ago. That was just one example of additional services (totalling an additional $700) they were pushing. What a rip off it could have been. My advice is that should you choose to use this service, they do quality work but they will try to sell you services you do not need, similar to an auto repair shop. Use with caution.

Description of Work: The hot water heater sprang a leak and water began to pour out the bottom of the 30 gallon tank. The nearest replacement tank was a 40 gallon unit. Ray began quoting prices which varied greatly based on membership, guaranty periods for different quality tanks. I opted for the least expensive tank, but was surprised at the cost - even with the discount promised Angies List members. The old tank was removed with much caution that water was not spilled on the floor. Ray lay down floor covering and even removed the door in the hall. After the old tank was removed and the new tank installed, he rolled up the floor covering, reinstalled the door, and left. He was very professional, arrived when promised, and completed the work in reasonable time. I would probably use this contracted again, but might check prices with others to insure the price was reasonable.

We called to fix the water heater in a rental unit we own. The water heater was only a year or two old. The reps were very pleasant to deal with. They couldn't come out that day, but we made an appointment for the next day. They called before they came and were on time. The plumber said it was the burner unit. This is where the low professional grade comes in. He told me it would be 3 to 4 days to get a new part from GE and leave the tenants with no hot water for that time , OR, I could pay $1300 for a new water heater. I agreed to a new one so the tenants wouldn't be inconvenients. However, later that day, I called GE because it just didn't seem right. They told me they could have sent out the part to arrive the next day. I guess it's my fault that I didn't check before I gave the ok. Anyway, they did a nice job installing the new one, even finding a small gas leak. Their prices are a bit higher than other plumbers in the area, but again, they did a nice job. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

I'm sorry that the experience left a bad taste in your mouth. Our ultimate goal was to provide hot water to your tenants as quick as possible. Unfortunately, the manufacturers can and will promise almost anything to consumers and we have seen too often where they don't perform as they promise. With over 40 years in the industry dealing with manufacturers, we have had the misfortune of relying on their promises to our detrement whereas the parts DID NOT arrive when promised and we end up looking like the bad guys. We prefer to be honest when relying on a 3rd party and acknowledge that we are unsure of their perfomance. The ONLY thing we can guarantee is our own service and believe that by installing the new heater (and we hope you would agree) your tenants were taken care of. Furthermore, repair parts for the brand heater we installed are always available through us 24 hours/day 365/year meaning you will never be in this situation again. We appologize for the underpeformance of your previous heater, but that is only 1 of the many reasons we don't recommend that brand.

Wonderful response and excellent repair. also recommended upgrade of other copper piping in the future. I have used this plumbing company for the past 3 years, and they have never failed to impress with their skill, professionalism, and cleanliness. I return from a trip ot of the US to discover a drip from the ceiling in my kitchen. Knowing that the shower was directly above, I called Tom Moffett and they came out and diagnosed and repaired the leak immediately, and scheduled the replastering for the following week.

We were having a family gathering after my mother-in-law's funeral, so we had a lot of people at our home. While we were in the middle of preparing dinner, the kitchen faucet broke. I called Tom Moffett Plumbing and they were able to get one of their plumbers, Ray, to our house very quickly. I was immediately impressed with Ray's professionalism and his explanation of services and pricing. He walked me through all of the options in advance of doing the work. He and his assistant worked quickly and were extremely respectful of our guests. I thought their prices were good, not great. However, I also think in most cases, you get what you pay for. It's clear to me Tom Moffett Plumbing is a top-flight organization and it showed with the guys who showed up at our house. If you go for the cheapest price with plumbers, you're more likely to be sorry. I would definitely use this plumber again.
Description of Work: Called out to fix a broken kitchen faucet. They didn't have the parts because it's a lesser-used brand. The shut-off valves below were frozen so they fixed them so water can be shut off until we get a new faucet.

We chose Tom Moffett because of the Angie's List ratings. The technicians were very personable and professional and informative, but I felt the price was a little steep for a mere drain snaking. I know they use a fixed price list, but we did not receive the discount on the coupon I mentioned we had. There was some confusion about their service call minimum and whether or not our service call qualified for the discount. I didn't realize that we hadn't received any discount at all until after the technicians left, and at that point, I just wanted to be done with it. We have also recently used the bottle of enzymatic drain opener they sold us, according to the directions on the bottle and the directions given us by the technicians, and we are not finding it to be terribly effective, despite its price tag. While I'm not completely averse to using Tom Moffett ever again, I'm calling another plumber this week for my current plumbing needs.
Description of Work: We had a stopped up shower/tub drain in the upstairs bathroom. Two technicians, one an apprentice, came out and snaked the drain. They also sold us a bottle of an enzymatic drain opener. They also looked at our toilets, because we mentioned that the flappers frequently catch or don't seat correctly, requiring us to lift off the toilet backs and fix them manually. The technicians did not fix these issues, however; they just looked at them. They suggested we take advantage of their special on new toilets, but we declined.

I can't appologize enough for our oversight in not applying the discount we offer to all of our Angie's List clients. I have retrocatively credited the amount to the credit card you had used for the transaction. Somewhere in our lines of communication, the fact that you found us on Angie's List did not get relayed to the technician in the field. Furthermore, if you are unsatisfied with our Drain Maid product, please contact us for a full refund. We stand behind the product completely and if it does not meet your expectations, we will gladly refund yor entire investment. We appreciate the opportunity to have served you and we take your feedback whole-heartedly so that we may improve going forward. Thank you once again.

After the work was performed Tom's crew left everything the way they found it, less the mess from the backup. The backup problem has been fixed and we have not had any further problems. The next day I received a phone call from the plumber informing us they had not added an additional discount we were entitled and would reduce our bill by that amount. We would definitely use their services again
Description of Work: My wife and I had been attempting to correct a kitchen drain that was backing up. We had tried to use chemicals but nothing worked. Tom Moffitt Plumbing came to the house on the correct date and time and snaked the sewer line to clean out any pipe deposits blocking the water discharge. Tom's crew explained their cost model and made a recommendation on their service to use water to blast out any buildup as well as use a camera to view the pipe. My wife and I are not the most trusting of contractors from past experiences, but we both felt comfortable with their work and recommendations.

This was the best experience we have had with a plumber. We have tried several different plumbers with mixed results. The two guys that came out, Jeremiah and Sam, were both very friendly and professional. They explained everything and were just great. They checked everything and made recommendations. I did not feel like they were trying to sell us more than we needed. For example, they checked our toilets and said they were fine and did not need more expensive work. They were a bit more expensive, but worth it because they did a very throrugh and complete job. They always explained what they woudl be doing and the pricing, so there were not surprises. I would definitely use them again. The 10% off for Angie's Lise customers saved a lot.

Two technicians came. One was an apprentice. Both were friendly young men, polite and professional. They did a good job and I was satisfied with their service. What I was unhappy about was the price. I paid the required service fee of $59.00, that was no problem. I also paid the $149.00 to replace the diverter stem in the shower handle. No problem. I provided the spare part that had been mailed to me by the manufacturer. I was surprised to hear that the replacement of a flapper in the toilet would cost $223.00. I have two toilets and was not willing to pay $446.00 to replace two flappers. So the price was reduced to $149.00 each. Since I was still unhappy and ready to call it off, the technician called the company and was told to reduce the cost to $74.00 each. .. This really came as a surprise to me, but I said :"go ahead, do it." I chose this company because they are located nearby, in an adjacent city, and could get to my place within a few minutes. I was happy with their service, but unhappy with the cost, being on a limited retirement income, and I would be hesitant to call them back for that reason. I think next time I'll go to the Home Depot, buy a flapper, and put it in myself.

Ray and Sam arrived on time, got to work, put on booties when coming in the house (every time!). They had quite a mess to deal with and were very helpful in removing stuff under the kitchen sink, going and getting a new sink, new faucet, new garbage disposal, and all that went with it. The house is old and hasn't had a lot of maintenance in the last 20 years so they had some tough pipes to unscrew and work with. Did a fabulous job in the bathroom as well as the kitchen. Now the sink looks so nice, the rest of the kitchen looks like heck. They quoted me the price before they started, and even though they ran into a lot of complications the priice stayed the same.I have used this company before, and used them this time and would use them in the future.

two young men arrived. very polite. well-dressed and careful. diagnosed that we needed new disposal (ours was about 20 yrs old). showed us their price list and we selected the middle-range disposer. installation went well. they were prompt and professional. however when we told our regular plumber what we spent for the unit and installation, he was appalled. he said his cost for the unit is under $150.00 and he would have installed for approx. $300 inclusive.
Description of Work: garbage disposal stopped working day before a major dinner party at our home for > 25 people. regular plumber unavailable that day, and we could not wait. so called this plumber based on Angie's List reviews. The came and installed a new garbage disposal. cost in the $550.00 range, including discount for Angie's list. we knew this was high but agreed to the price as we needed installation that day..
