GDI Garage Doors

I purchased an Angie's List coupon from GDI Garage Doors on 6/8/2016 for the purchase, installation and tune up for a new garage door opener (Anytime Garage Door = $289). I received a phone call within a half hour of the purchase to arrange the installation time for the very next afternoon. They gave me a three-hour window to arrive at my home for service and showed up on time. Technician Ryan did the job in about an hour and took the time to walk me through the safety aspects of the new equipment as well as how to use the new keypad, buttons and remotes. It is a nice looking and very quiet unit, complete with LED lighting. We are very happy with the initial function of the equipment and look forward to years of problem-free service. I plan to mail in the warranty card tomorrow, and will follow-up in a few months here with an update. During a time when it seems hard to find a good value and great customer service, GDI Garage Doors exceeded expectations. Thanks.

I will not use GDI again. Did not adjust tension on door as they should have, tried several times to upsell repairs on door that were not needed. Tech spent less than 20 minutes servicing my door!

I was told that they didn't service my area of Palmdale, CA and that I would need to contact Angie's List for a refund. He was sorry about the fact that he couldn't help me but they just didn't do work in Palmdale.

Technician ran late. I called the company to reschedule, and thought they were going to come the next day. Message didn't get to the technician in time, and he ended up coming anyways. He was knowledgable and out garage does run a lot more quietly now.

Doug was very professional, diligent and thorough. The garage door opener installation was done quickly and with much attention to detail, as was the installation of the wireless remote keypad. I was impressed with Doug's attention to detail on the garage door tune-up. Our door is 19 years old and had a few dings that hampered its operation. Doug spent a lot of time to tune-up and perform repairs on the door and it now works great. The cost of the repairs was reasonable. I feel very comfortable that these repairs were done right and will last a long time. I would definitely call on Doug for any future purchases or repairs.

I was given a 3 hour window for the day of installation and the installer showed up promptly at the beginning of the 3-hour window. How often does that happen? The unit to be installed turned out to be a newer model garage door opener and my car could not be coded to open the door so I was given the choice of going with a different model which was compatible with my 'older' car. Thank you! I'm happy with my new quiet garage door opener.

I'll first cover the service provided. Josh was very friendly and professional. He installed the door and keyless entry system promptly. He cleaned up the things leftover from his work, and he took my old garage door opener for disposal. He showed me how to use the keyless entry and openers. He checked the springs on the garage door to verify that everything else was in good shape. He mentioned to me how my rollers weren't in great shape and mentioned that GDI could replace those in a separate appointment if I'd like, but he wasn't pushy about it. One other thing that impressed me about Josh's service: I live in a gated community, and it turned out that our gate had been hit by a car that morning and knocked off the rail. GDI doesn't deal with gates, but Josh did what he could by helping put the gate back on the rail and helping me turn off the gate until we could the ironwork repaired by another provider. As far as the garage door opener itself, this was a great deal! My garage door is extremely quiet. If it weren't for the rollers that I will probably replace soon, my garage door would open and close completely silently. I love that I can open the garage door by entering a code on the keyless entry outside, and because the garage door connects to WiFi, I can open and close my garage door -- and monitor whether it's open or closed -- with my phone. If you need a garage door opener, and if this deal is still available on Angie's List, I'd recommend you get it. Overall, I was very satisfied with the product and the service provided.

I originally thought I just needed repair. But the door that came with the house was the wrong size and would not work much better with repair. I decided to put in a new one that looks great with the modern architecture of my house. The service was excellent and friendly and would use them again if necessary.

They never showed up for repair.

It was okay. They came out soon after the purchase date. I had a charge for two hundred dollars for replacing a spring or something. Even after paying the 200 dollars for the spring it doesn't seem to have fixed the problem. The responsiveness was good.

Tech explained all possible reasons for issue. Showed me the simple solution of alignment. Garage door now working smoothly.

They came out last week. No additional costs. The guy was very polite once he got here. They could have told me that the light on it meant that I needed to call them.

GDI made an appointment with me on the 10th for the morning between 8 and 11. I explained that I had to travel to an appointment the afternoon of the 10th and suggested they make it for another day if there was any possibility they couldn't be done by 11 the morning of the tenth. I was assured there was no possibility of that happening Naturally, on the 10th I was called a few minutes before 11 and told the mechanic was running late. More importantly, when the mechanic came on the 11th, while I was running an errand, he never touched the door. He took a look at it, pointed out to my wife all of the things that he said were wrong with the door, sat in his car for 10 minutes writing an estimate which he gave to my wife and left. I had the door repaired by a local service on the 12th for under $400. When I suggested replacing the springs, one of the items that GDI said needed to be done immediately, the mechanic on the 12th (who had no knowledge of GDI's visit), said, "that's not necessary yet, they're in good shape. Like too many "specials" on Angie's list, this was a way of being paid to attempt a bait and switch for much costlier service. To add insult to injury, GDI called yesterday to follow up on the estimate and see if we were ready to move forward. When my wife told them that the repair was accomplished for slightly more than 10% of what she had been quoted, the caller hung up on her abruptly.

The tech took one quick look at our opener and decided it needed to be replaced. He didn't even open it up. Then they offered a range of replacement costs from roughly $399-$699. I declined the replacement, watched a you tube video, and learned that it was a $5 gear which was quite easily replaceable, so I did it myself. The tech was very nice and professional, and cleaned up the tracks, and did some quick maintenance, but I felt like ultimately they just wanted to sell a garage door rather than investigate the issue.

Appointment was sheduled for a 3 or 4 hour window on a weekday. When they had not shown up by the end of that window, I called and talked with the provider who couldn't understand what had happened. I, of course, did not have the name of the person I'd made the arrangements with. Rescheduled. Next appointment, the provider was on-time, honest and upfront about the condition of the existing product. Sprayed with a "professional" grade silicone and was gone in a flash. (It was expensive to have someone spray silicone, but that's what you get when you're an uninformed consumer. Did like the guy they sent out. He was very personable and a great representative for his company.

Fine. I thought the service went very quickly and not much got accomplished. He sprayed lubricant on the springs. But when I asked why my garage door took a few seconds to respond, the technician checked the contact within the unit. He cleaned it off, and now it is more quick to respond. For what I pad, the service was fine.

The garage company first made mistake on my address and then had to send another garage guy to come. The garage guy told me to change my motor and doors after I told him that remote control can't open the doors. He told me that things are not fixable and quoted me over $3000 to change everything. A few days later, I had another garage company to check and they fixed things very quickly for $70. This made me feel quite upset that I totally wasted $40 with Angieslist.

I scheduled same day and they arrived on-time. He explained what needed to be done and the cost. He put everything back together with reinforcement. At the end I noticed a board not nailed in that was caused by original issue. He fixed that for me and also helped set up our keypad to garage door opener. So, he went above and beyond fixing the garage door and I appreciated the service. He did suggest additional service that may be necessary, but I didn't want to do that right now and left it at that. Everything was done quickly and is all working again.

I will probably not use again. think other members should know, but as far as the company performing service i would truly like to see the information reach service company anonymously as i do not wish to have anyone contact me. thank you
