Village Handyman

After Bill looked at our deck he said it really wasn't functionally bad, it just looked bad because it had a deteriorating stain. He thought the best thing would be to re-cover it with a product called Deck Over. We insisted that we wanted it replaced and asked him for a bid which he gave us for $6,000. We both had some scheduling challenges and in the meantime we looked into Deck Over and decided to give it a try and if it didn't satisfy us, we could always schedule the job. Well, Bill was right. We purchased and applied the Deck Over and were very happy with it. Of course, time will tell just how well it holds up in the next few years, but in the meantime we saved a lot of money and have Bill to thank for his very professional advice.

It went very well. Bill was prompt, professional, honest, and provided excellent communication throughout the entire process. His attention to detail was impressive and he has a very wide knowledge base. His price was fair for the scope of the work performed. This was my first time using anyone from Angie's list & I selected the Village Handyman solely from A. List reviews. I have already scheduled additional work, utilizing Bill's services...and am sure I will be calling on him again in the future. Definite thumbs up!

Nice man. .1 1./2 hours late. He did a nice job but not still left part of the old flooring show outside of the new flooring. Granted it went into the closet, mentioned this bothered me and could have been as easy as cutting the old piece of flooring out for a clean look and did not. We reviewed the job prior to the start of the job in which the washer and dryer would not fit through the door as he determined the door framing would need to be removed, then quoted the price. I rate him a B in quality due to the old piece of floor showing, being 1/2 hour late, called close to the time he was expected. I previously rated him higher, as he made it quite clear via email and in-person that he has always received an A Rating with Angie's list, and due to my review; that he was no longer was receiving work and quite upset. I rarely rate A's unless someone complete meets if not exceeds my expectations. Needing the work done, based on our timeframe and availability, requested more work... Last chance; Called him for another quote for an outside patio, possible window installations, additional floor replacements, and some small repairs. Did not receive a response. Called a few days later to let him know that I forgot to have him measure for the guest bedroom and never heard back from him again. Missing our deadlines. Sharing this with my husband, indicated it was important to express our dismay, as perhaps his previous reviews may not have truly been A's unless he took that same approach with customers, making them uncomfortable enough to change their reviews as I did... I'm no longer angry but uncomfortable as he seemed to initially be a nice man who simply has a habit of being late. I do not want any further contact with this person please. Thank you,

He's a very kind and grounded individual. His ability to analyze options and recommendations are well thought out and seeking to use him again as I build funds for more house repairs. I old my old washer to my neighbor and recommended him to help her with repairs and/or set up.

The supplies were purchased and handled, estimates given beforehand, and he showed up when he said. On the positive side, I would say that the two different workdays he has had with me, he seemed to do an exceptional job. I would trust him with jobs that require a contractor as he thinks through the details and does the job right. With the two different workdays, I have not had him increase his price after the fact. On the downside, after spending the time to go over the projects ( there were several) and prioritizing them, he did not seem to keep track of the information, so I ended up needing to repeat my energies. Also for example, the roofing job didn't get done until the beginning of February, where I had expressed wanting it done early winter, two or three months earlier. When a work day was canceled due to his illness, I had to call several times to get back on his schedule and had trouble getting a return phone call a few times. Organization and/or work habits a little lacking, when he did the job and we Got our schedules together, he did a great job. Also, he was very pleasant and easy to work with on the day. I will use Bill for jobs that need high quality and if timing is not critical. Unlike others who when they've failed, never call you back, he manned up and got back on my job with gusto. I appreciated that maturity. As far is his pricing, I think he is priced as a licensed contractor, not a handyman. You get what you pay for-- A quality job-- with Bill.

Arrived as expected, performed job in a timely and professional manner. Excellent results. Cost was reasonable considering quality of work.

Appreciating that the work was performed on a SFR rental property and that we live out of the area, Bill was thoroughly communicative via email and telephone. He provided an thorough estimate of the work he thought needed to be performed, when he would be able to perform the work, and the time it would take to perform the tasks. He provided his services precisely as contracted for, provided detailed photographs of critical features of work performed. His priced was very fair and in line with or in some cases considerably less expensive than other competitive bids. I will definitely contact Bill for any future carpentry needs that may arise on this property.

Bill showed up exactly when he said he would, walked around to determine what he would need to do the job, went to the hardware store and then went right to work. He explained that he would have to turn off the water for a short time and did that first. My mailbox post was falling apart but I didn't really want to have the cement jackhammered to replace it. Bill went to the hardware store and came back with a post that he was able to attach to the existing post. It looks great and is stable. He was professional, pleasant and left no mess.

Bill was so professional. Got the job completely done and also fixed some things that I did not ask for "on the house" I recommend him without hesitation. We have been using different handymen over the past few years and have finally found one we can count on. THANKS BILL!

We had him out here twice. He has done excellent work both times. He is little bit pricey but he knows what he is doing. He is fast and he did it well.

Quoted fixed cost over phone. Prompt response via text and Angie email. Confirmed appt and cost over telephone night before appointment. Arrived early to appt. Performed job and found other hinges needing repair. Was in and out in less than 20 minutes. Yes will call again. Said he works by fixed price not by the billable hour. Yes I paid a little more but was worth it to have appointment time met and in out service.

We have used him in the past and he is very efficient. He is very clear about what he can and can’t do. He is very true to his word. He shows up when he says he will. He does a good job. It was a very fair price. He did a really good job the last time. He is very good with repairing minor problems. He doesn’t paint, but other than that, he seems very competent. He was very good a variety of repair work we needed done. He gave us a bid on the electrical but we didn’t end up using him but we have used him before. It was nothing about the quality that he would do, but we came up with some other projects we needed done and we thought that the other electrician that came after him was just more familiar with that type of electrical work, and Garrett wasn’t. We almost hired him but it just got way above what we thought it was going to be. It became really complicated work and we just thought that we better go with somebody else since it was electric work.

It was kind of getting complicated. We had added on a lot of other electrical problems that we had to the list, so when the electrician came out, he did seem he was the more the person to hire. We almost hired Garrett but it just got way above what we thought it was going to be. It became really complicated work and we just thought that we better go with somebody else since it was electric work. He did a really good job on what he did last time. He is very good with repairing minor problems.

It was a little difficult to schedule an appointment for Bill to come out; but after our second call to his office, we got a call back and Bill came out over the weekend to give us an estimate for some repairs on a front door and to replace a bathroom door. We had some dry rot at the base of a front door (that our tenant had not told us about until he moved out) and a bathroom door that needed to be replaced. Bill knows his stuff and showed us just how the dry rot had formed in the first place (a leaky rain gutter above the door frame). He was very nice, professional and took down all of our information and told us he would get back to us towards the middle of the week with an estimate. When Weds came around we hadn't heard back from him, so we decided to check in to see if he'd had a chance to get to our estimate. When we spoke he'd done quite a bit of research and had found out just how much everything would cost. His recommendation (which was probably the most comprehensive and correct way to solve our problem) was to replace the entire front door frame and front door. Unfortunately, our budget really didn't allow for such a comprehensive solution, we just needed a smaller more specific repair to the door frame itself. In the end, we decided to go with a finish carpenter, who could just do the spot repair we needed. BUT - if we ever needed a handyman to come and do other repairs, we would definitely keep Bill in mind - he's local, he knows what he's talking about and if we had hired him, it seemed like he would have done a good job.

It took him 3 days to respond to my initial phone call. I set-up an appointment with him. When he finally showed up he seemed to pull things to together and did well on a simple project.

I joined AngiesList on a Friday. I reviewed plumbers in my area and chose to call Village Handyman because he was a licensed general contractor and said he could do plumbing and electrical. I need both services, but started with the small plumbing jobs. I called him on Friday, he returned my call within a few hours, he said he was busy the whole next week, but could come out on Sunday (in two days!) to do this smaller job if that was OK. After I told him about the job, he quoted a price . He arrived on time, he is polite, neat, cleaned as he went, made a trip to the hardware store to buy the correct insides for the faucets, completed the whole work within a few hours. The bill was exactly as he had quoted to me. I liked his personality and his tidy work, and I showed him the electrical work that needs to be done next, and he said he could do that as well, and will call to schedule that work. I am very happy with Bill Garrett, the Village Handyman. I have already given his card to neighbors in my condo community.

He's great. He is very good at what he does, explains everything, he's good, tells you what's the cost going to be and sticks to that, and on time.

Going to find a different person to do the work.

All was done very smoothly. Had a halt due to missing parts, but kept me informed and scheduled return. All work done neatly and area cleaned up.

Bill is very professional and very knowledgeable about all facets of construction and building codes. He was easy to communicate with by email and by telephone, and he completed all of the work when he said he would. The house where he did the work was tenant-occupied, and he was very courteous to our tenants. Some of his services seemed a little expensive, but Bill was upfront and ethical about his charges, and he did suggest ways that we could save money. All of the work was done correctly and on time, so that is worth a lot.
