It was a good experience. He came to take a look at my kitchen tile that needed to be reset and re-grouted. We thought his price to reset seemed high. He said that some tiles were loose so he would prefer to reset them so they wouldn't come loose again. We had limited time and a limited budget for this project. Carlos was accommodating and he was willing to resubmit his bid in a timely manner to do only the re-grouting. The quality of his work was good. The price was fair. He didn’t come to work on time today, but it wasn’t a problem. He was there in a timely manner for the days that he did the work and when he gave the estimate.
Description of Work: He re-grouted the tile in the kitchen and around the bathtub in the master bathroom.

Carlos and his team (which includes his sweet son, Carlos, Jr.) did a fabulous job on my bathroom/powder room. I had 12X12" polished marble put on the shower walls with a glass accent. Carlos also added two corners shelves and a corner shower seat. The shower floor is done in those cool pebbles (flores green). My floor in bathroom and in powder room is 1X1" ming green tumbled marble with white grout. It all looks GORGEOUS! Turns out that behind my shower tiles was lathe and plaster. Not an easy "pop off the tiles" job at all! Carlos re-did it the RIGHT WAY. No short cuts. No quick fix. He did a spectacular job! There's a lot more involved in a bathroom "facelift" than i thought, so i would advise anyone who is not an expert in this to go over ALL of the details with Carlos in advance. Such as noise that might be involved (in case you have mean neighbors, which fortunately, i don't have), etc. Ask Carlos exactly what's going to happen and then there won't be any surprises. Carlos and his team are a dream to work with! After knowing them for two days, i didn't have any problem in leaving the house for work and feeling totally confident that they respect my property and would look after everything and i was not disappointed. NOTE: I wouldn't advise using tumbled marble floors, (especially with a million grout lines) to anyone who has kids or who will use it in a bathroom that gets a lot of traffic. They're beautiful, but i think i'll be doing a lot more maintenance than i'm used to doing. This was my decision, not Carlos'. Live and learn. Anyway, thanks Carlos and Carlos, Jr.---GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!
Description of Work: tore out old tile out of shower, shower floor, bathroom floor. repaired lathe and plaster before retiling. shower floor was "hot mopped" (Carlos would have to explain that to you. I don't understand it--just have heard that it's a good thing. Put 12X12" polished marble in shower, custom shower curb (Carlos is a stone master), 2 shower shelves, a corner shower seat, pebbles on shower floor, tumbled marble tiles on floor in bathroom and adjoining powder room. Took out my toilet, old vanity and sink, old shower door--and took everything with them and out of this house! yea!

I thought C-Bek was great.
Description of Work: Carlos from C-Bek was very responsive. Came out and gave me a good estimate. The price was good and he was on time. The only reason I didn't use Carlos was that I got a relative to do the job for just the cost of the materials. Carlos had great follow-up and I would DEFINITELY use him in the future.

Carlos came out to provide the estimate a few weeks prior to our buying our new home. He gave me exact costs and an estimated time frame of 4-5 days as well as different cost options as we started going over materials. He is very, very honest and does not push to have his way. Rather, he gives wonderful advice and always listens to his client's ideas, making sure we stay in budget while still getting what we want. Carlos had undergone surgery several days prior to the job being started, but he was there to start every day, right on time. He was very personable and knowledgable, allowing me to ask as many questions as I needed as well as repeating them when my husband came home. His patience and expertise were invaluable, not only with our tile installation, but grand project ideas I had for the future! His crew arrived early and on time and worked extremely hard the entire day. Carlos came early with his crew to begin overseeing the project and ended every day with coming and carefully checking all the work that had been done that day. He called throughout the day to check up on the progress of the work and to make sure that everything was to my satisfaction. He is extremely meticulous and takes great pride in the quality of his work and his workmanship. They run a very tight operation and we were very happy with them. They are also flexible and work hard to meet changes, such as we had to have a pony wall built (which they had to tile) and we wanted them to extend the tile all the way to the floor behind the sink vanity, past the original agreement. I simply told Carlos what I wanted, worried that it might mess up the plans, but he put me at ease and helped me with how much more tile I would need and still finished in the time frame provided. Being a newcomer to Angie's List, C-Bek is a wonderful company to work with. They are professional, courteous, and produce absolutely beautiful work that can work in one's budget. I also highly recommend getting the tile from Silver Stone and Tile in North Hollywood, a sister company to C-Bek where they have absolutely beautiful tile, stone, granite, marble materials as well as showcasing some of Carlos's fine work. Pretty much if you can imagine it, Carlos can create it for you!
Description of Work: Carlos and his crew demolished our bathroom tile and the bathroom floor tile as well as the adjacent tile in the hallway and laundry area. They installed porcelain tile with little accent pieces on the walls surrounding the bathtub, behind and around the sink vanity as well as the bathroom hallway and adjacent laundry closet. They also tiled the extra pony wall we had built to encase the new bathtub.

We had Carlos come out to do an estimate to finish up some work that we had started on for our bathroom remodel. The job was to fabricate two granite countertops for an oval bathtub and a vanity with a single sink. In addition, we had Carlos estimate the remaining tilework to be done around the bathtub, a bathtub step, and the wall surrounding the toilet. I called up Carlos in the morning and he arranged to come out the next evening to give us an estimate for the job. We spent about an hour discussing details and Carlos took the measurements that he needed. One of my concerns was the bathtub granite. It is about 5x5 feet with a large oval hole cutout for the bathtub. I was concerned about how many pieces it would need to be cut into for it to be installed without breaking. Carlos told me he could do it in one piece and he helped me put my skepticism to rest by explaining to me the fabrication procedure. Within a few days, Carlos had the estimate emailed to me and we were good to go. I had another team come out and give us an estimate but because we found Carlos to be very personable and his estimate was in line with our expectations, we hired him. The first thing Carlos and his guys did was to make a template for the bathtub. It took him about an hour to do and one of the things that surprised me was that he cleaned up everything before he left. Next, Carlos had his tile guys come out and grout the floor tile. Then they began work on the step leading into the tub the next day. I had drawn out some sketches as to how I wanted the tile to be put down and his guys simply adhered to my sketches & directions. Again, his guys alweays cleaned up before they left for the day. Next, the granite for the tub was installed. He fabricated it in one single piece and VERY carefully, set it into place which really gave me peace of mind because I was concerned that it could break at its smallest width. It went in beautifully. The next day, his guys started to work on the intricate tilework on the tub walls. I had everything drawn out and his guys simply followed my directions & pictures. The bathroom was really beginning to take shape now and the finished tilework looked awesome. Next, they came out and installed the vanity granite countertop. He had fabricated it while his other guys were doing tilework around the tub. He installed the sink as well. The granite has a couple of complex curves on the face where it joins back into the linen tower. We did the same thing on the bathtub granite where it joins into two half-height walls and by doing this, there are no sharp edges to see. The granite was faced with another piece of granite and then mitered to give it a look as if the slab is 1-1/2 inches thick. It looks awesome. Finally, Carlos's guys took a half day and grouted all remaining tilework. We bought the grout from his store. We were very happy with the quality of workmanship with Carlos and his team. Communication was good and even though sometimes Carlos would return calls in the evening, he always did return my calls. We would not hesitate to hire him again down the road when we get ready to remodel our other bathroom and kitchen. Pictures shown for vanity countertop and bathtub tilework & granite. I had Carlos come over for an estimate. He was late because he ran into traffic coming from another job site; due to a previous committment, I had to leave a few minutes after he arrived, but he agreed to come back the next day. He did and things went much more smoothly. Carlos asked a lot of intelligent questions, took measurements, and looked at the tile I had already purchased. He gave me a rough estimate and later followed it up with a formal, written estimate via email. I had previously received estimates from 2 other bidders and selected Carlos because I thought his pricing was very fair and I liked how he answered my questions and explained different options. While I had previously purchased the tiles for the tub surround of the front bath, I still needed the rest of the tile, so we decided to check out Carlos's tile shop in North Hollywood. We had been to several stores already and quite honestly, we'd begun to feel a little overwhelmed with all of the choices. Since Carlos had seen our bathrooms, he was able to provide some excellent guidance in the tile selection. For example, one problem I had was that I didn't have any quarter round for the tile I had previously purchased. Since matching white tile is practically impossible, we purchased some extra trim tile and Carlos said he would round the edges. It was a great solution and I'm so happy with the results. Just before the tile job was to start, we re-piped the house. While the re-pipers were here, Carlos stopped by to take a look at the progress and communicate a couple of requests (i.e. making sure they left enough pipe to accommodate for the additional cement and tile that was going up on the wall). Once the patching from the re-pipe was done, Carlos and his crew got to work. I was surprised at how much progress they made each day. When problems came up (i.e. a leak in the old shower unit had rotted some of the subfloor, the walls in my old house are no longer straight, etc), Carlos notified me and had solutions ready. He and his crew were extremely hard workers. They started by 8 every morning and some days didn't leave until almost 7:30pm. They cleaned up everyday and kept things as tidy as possible. While he had a couple of other jobs going at the same time, Carlos was at our job site at least twice a day to check on the progress and give instructions for the next steps. His guys seemed like they could work without constant supervision. Also, I thought the work on our 2 bathrooms would take a good 2-3 weeks, but Carlos had them done in 8 working days. Oh and he had surgery in the middle of it! But his wife and his crew kept our job moving and the results are fantastic. I'm so happy with our bathrooms. I'm looking forward to re-doing our kitchen when we'll definitely be giving Carlos another call.
Description of Work: Please note that the price is for labor only; it doesn't include the cost of the tile. Front bathroom: demolished floor and wall and removed vanity. Floated the floor and waterproofed the walls around the tub. (The walls around the tub were already cemented, so we just added a waterproof coating.) Tiled around the tub and the floor. Master bath: demolished floor and removed vanity. Floated the walls, constructed the shower pan, hot mopped, and tiled shower and bathroom floor.

Carlos never called me back. I called him today and reminded him. He said theminimum he would charge to send someone out to put the small piece of slab on the bench would be $350 then he lowered it to $250. Angie's List is keeping him busy so I guess he can charge what ever he wants.
Description of Work: I called Carlos 3 weeks ago to repair the bottom of a shower bench that became unglued and fell. He said to email him pictures which i did. The slab is 2 ft by 6 ".

Response from C-Bek Tile & Stone Design Inc
As an owner of C-BEK Tile and Stone Design Inc. I can genuinely say that we pride ourselves in servicing our clients in all ways possible. Out of all the ratings on Angie's List we have received nothing but great reviews from our clients until now. Unfortunately we have received a poor review and I feel that I should give my rebuttal to the review. I have never done any work for this client. She contacted me to repair a job that someone else had done. The repair was not due to us doing a bad job; I just wanted to make that clear. At the time she contacted me it is true that I was busy with other several jobs. I was honest with her and told her that I was busy, but still tried to accommodate her. I made no promises. Even though our company does repairs, they are not our main source of work, but again we still do them. Our company base is in North Hollywood and the potential client was in Beverly Hills. I do not feel that I was over pricing the job considering all of the costs incorporated such as the cost of material and labor. Still, even though I was completely booked at the time, I lowered the price. This did not seem to satisfy the potential client. I feel that I did my best in trying to work something out. It is unfortunate that it did not work out and I can assure any future clients that our company puts our clients first and we are very professional. I believe that our ratings prove that. I hope that one bad rating does not sway your decisions from pursuing a work relationship with us.

Carlos could start immediately and also trouble-shooted some unexpected problems once the old tile floor was removed. He also sold us the tile which was very reasonablly priced. He did an outstanding job and made certain everything was cleaned-up at the end of each day. He promised us the job would take 4 day and it took 4 days. I would highly recommend using Carlos and the floors and the shower turned-out beautifully.
Description of Work: We needed the tile floors in both bathrooms replaced with new tile and a tile ceiling in one shower.

From start to finish it was a great experience - they put pastic over the entry way to limit dust in other areas of our house. They helped take out and put our appliances back. Carlos was very easy to work with and did a great job.
Description of Work: This was my first experience using a contractor from Angie's List. Carlos came to our house to give us an estimate for travertine flooring in our kitchen. When we decided to go with him, he rearranged his schedule to accommodate us. Carlos was on the job with his crew at all times. He confirmed we were happy before setting the travertine. He gave us suggestions on color and design. My husband and I are so happy with the outcome - we go look at our kitchen floor every morning and comment on how wonderful it looks. We're going to use Carlos for flooring in other rooms in our house. He and his crew ARE THE BEST. I can't recommend him enough!

Carlos Martinez gave me his estimate after seeing a small bathroom that I intended to remodel. I already had a new vanity/granite top that was really too big for the size of my bathroom, but I had fallen in love with it and was determined to fit it in anyway. I also had a small budget to work with. Carlos was not hesitant about assuring me that he would make it work for me and stay within my budget. He assisted me in finding affordable porcelain tile and travertine liner and trim. He made great recommendations regarding the placement of niches & a built-in seat in the shower. He is a creative person and does excellent designs. He maintains excellent relationships with other trades needed to complete the project. He guided me thru my first bathroom remodel with excellent comments and advice. His crew was extremely polite, neat and tidy in their work habits, keeping my home completely protected from damage at all times. After his fabrication/installation of the tile and stone, he painted, & meticulously custom installed my vanity & matching mirror. I watched in disbelief as all of his critical calculations panned out precisely as he planned! He is a true PRO and cares a great deal about a challenge that others would have told me I couldn't have. He checks & re-checks every move he makes! I am sold on Carlos and C-BEK. I have two more bathrooms that also need a remodel and I wouldn't dream of anyone but Carlos to do them for me. You will find Carlos to be conscious of your budget, artistic, a hard worker, determined, conscientious, light hearted, but most of all an honest man with a ton of integrity. Call him, you will LOVE him!
Description of Work: Carlos Martinez (C-BEK) demolished my existing bathroom, framed a niche & a seat in the shower, installed a new shower pan, concreted the shower and floor, tiled shower with porcelain tile and travertine liner & trim. He tiled my floor with matching porcelain tile. He redesigned an in-wall magazine rack with matching tile & trim. He trimmed an existing mirrored niche with matching travertine then grouted and sealed everything. He called in his plumber to replace existing pipe with copper and do some necessary re-routing of drains/vents, etc. He painted untiled walls. HE custom fit a mahogany vanity w/granite top and matching mirror into a space not intended for it to fit into. His calculations were critical for everything to fit. He assured me he would see to it. He most certainly did without 1/16" to spare! He moved my light fixture and did all necessary plumbing to reinstall my toilet and installed the sink into the vanity. All towel racks & grab bars were re-installed. He called an associate to meet with me regarding a new shower door that I was interested in purchasing.

Once I reviewed his estimate and checked on some references I gave the go ahead to start the job. I had some flexibility on when to start, since I am doing most of the remodel work myself. The job took about 3 days to complete. At the end of each day they cleaned up the area before leaving. Whenever there was a question on what needed to be done, Carlos or one of his workers came and made sure they were doing what I wanted. After they were all done I found a minor problem, which when I told Carlos about, he came in a few days and corrected it. When the shower glass company came to measure for the surround, he noted that the tile was laid perfectly for him to install the shower wall and doors.
Description of Work: I did a total remodel of our master bathroom and adjacent closet and makeup room. The work C-Bek was to tile these rooms and two wall of the shower area. The shower are had no curb, just a gentle sloop to a trench drain. One of the shower walls was glass tile and the other was 12” 24” tiles with a window in the corner. I supplied the tiles for the job.

C-Bek was great. Carlos was prompt and responsive throughout the project - from his proposal to the final touches. He was an excellent communicator and was upfront about potentially difficult issues. His attention-to-detail and perfectionist attitude was extremely refreshing and won our confidence. I was impressed from the first day on the job. I stopped by the house during the first day of work and Carlos had gone to get some materials. Instead of being ignored by his crew, they welcomed me to the site and took pride in showing me the progress of the work and making sure I did not have any concerns. They also went to great lengths to protect existing doorjambs and other fixtures and minimize dust during their work. They also cleaned the work site each day before leaving. Carlos made appropriate suggestions, took it upon himself to fix issues as he went (such as damaged wood in the wall behind a shower), and generally did his work as though it were his own house. He may be the owner of his company, but he works harder himself than anyone I know. The staircase work was particularly challenging and Carlos looked at the project as a challenge and was determined to deliver a quality product. Given the irregular nature of the steps and an existing stair-rail, the tile pattern was particularly challenging, but the result is wonderful. Its probably possible for a tile installer to "tile over" sub-standard base structure with a product that looks good at first glance, but Carlos spent considerable attention to the underlying elements of a quality product. From the sealing of the concrete foundation (prior to tile installation), to the framing of the shower and the hot-mop shower pan, to his insistence that plumbing be thoroughly tested prior to tiling walls, Carlos paid very close attention to the elements that provide a long-lasting quality product. I happily recommend C-Bek. It would be hard to find a more hard-working and dependable team than Carlos and his crew.
Description of Work: Removed existing hardwood/tile in 5 rooms (including 2 bathrooms). Completely demo both bathrooms. Installed new versaille-pattern travertine flooring throughout all rooms. Constructed two new showers from the sub-floor up, finishing with tumbled travertine. Re-tiled an existing curved staircase (with irregular and inconsistent size/shape stairs) using travertine. Installed a tumbled travertine countertop in laundry room.

I had very few floor tiles left from a dozen years ago when it was installed. Carlos told me he could find a way to make it work. Another outfit had also bid on the job at a significantly lower cost, but Carlos appeared more engaged with the work, interested, and convincingly spoke like he knew exactly how to approach it. When I arrived home as he wrapped up the job, I was absolutely amazed! See the before/after pictures, but it doesn't do justice. It looks even better than the pictures. Bravo, Carlos, for fantastically professional work!
Description of Work: I didn't think it would be possible to extend a tile border pattern in my kitchen/family room area. There was several feet of both adjusting/laying several ceramic tile and some mosaic-type small pieces for the border. I also had a few smaller jobs: fixing a shower grout crack, removing an old ceramic fixture near my bathtub and putting in a couple tiles to cover the void, etc.

First it was very important to me that the person doing the bid and managing the project would be in the trenches during the actual work. Very early on, Carlos emphasized that he was personally interested in doing beautiful detailed work and that turned out to be true. The tile I had chosen was a glossy 18" porcelain tile and I wanted a very small grout line to create the effect of a gigantic slab of marble for the floor. The final effect is stunning. It has turned a modest condo into real design showpiece. Carlos was able to help me find the best deal on materials and took care of picking up from other vendors. Since it is an upper floor apartment, he worked with me on selecting the proper acoustical underlay and providing samples and guidelines that I was able to present to the condo board for approval. During the demo phase he had to pull up carpeting and existing tile and his crew was very aware of protecting the common areas of my building (unlike the other vendors working in the building). One of the technical challenges was leveling the floor for such a precise installation, and we did go slightly over the initial estimate to accomplish this, but Carlos explained what was going on throughout so there were no surprises. Visitors are blown away by the effect of this tile work and I am very happy with both the process and the results.
Description of Work: Carlos and his crew installed porcelain tile in my entryway, kitchen, dining, den and living room.

It went extremely well. Two tile setters did the demolition, removal, surface preparation and installation in one long day. The resulting new floor was really nice. The owner, Carlos Martinez, is a very nice and obliging guy. This is my second project with him. he is extremely knowledgeable, and does excellent work. His prices are competitive.
Description of Work: The existing tile in my bathroom was removed down to the sub-floor. The surface was prepared with tar paper and wire mesh, and floated with Portland cement. New porcelain tile was then installed.

Carlos Martinez and his crew came to lay tile in our Master and Guest bathrooms. Before we began, Carlos took me to a tile company with an incredible array of tile, stone and marble and I found the tile I liked at a terrific saving. I had shopped many tile stores and tile contractors and I knew the tile I bought and the contractor I chose were priced extremely fair. Carlos kept in constant contact with me and began work on the day we agreed. The crew arrived on time and they were clean, polite, unobtrusive and professional. Carlos was on site at all times, his crew were pleasant and diligent and the job was finished on time and was beautiful. All was left clean and wonderful. If I have any other stone, tile or marble jobs in the future, the first call I would make would be to Carlos Martinez and C-Bek.
Description of Work: C-Bek removed the old carpet in both the Master and Guest bath and laid ceramic tile in both.

He did a beautiful and extremely professional job from beginning to end. Within four days, the job was completed! His work speaks for itself. He was very organized. Carlos sent us to a tile shop specializing in travertine; we were able to buy our travertine at an unbelievably unbeatable price - our travertine tiles are beautiful! You will not be disappointed if you select C-Bek Tile and Stone Design. Carlos is a perfectionist and works very closely with you if you have any question about anything at all even during the time of installation. They are very careful throughout the entire process. We selected Carlos' company because during our initial meeting, he showed confidence that he could do the job with no problem. That meant alot to us. We pointed out some challenges with the current floor; he had to demo the previously laid porcelain tiles (less than 6 mths old) that were poorly laid by another contractor; our new cabinets rested on top of these porcelain tiles - you could never tell that there was other tile underneath the cabinets/island; Carlos kept our new kitchen cabinets intact - no scratches, no damage; just a clean job. We anticipate having C-Bek do our bathroom remodeling in the next couple months and look forward to working with him and his crew again. Thank you Carlos!! You and your crew did an amazing job!! See you in a couple of months, and thank you Angie's List - for providing the best companies for people like us to choose from!!
Description of Work: Carlos and his amazing crew installed travertine tiles in my kitchen and family room area. He and his crew cut and laid approximately 400 sq. feet of travertine in the versaille pattern and sealed it with one of the best sealers in the market (cost of sealer & tile not included in price of installation)

I was very pleased with the bidding process.
Description of Work: Carlos and his son came out in short notice and put together a formal bid for me. I was pleased with the process and felt he would do a great job. I ended up doing the project with another guy because I had already been working with him on a number of other things. But I would definitely use C-Bek on the next project.

I had just had my hardwood floors refinished, and decided that the room now needed painting to be worthy of the new floor. I was told that tile installation should be done before painting. I had long ago purchased lovely Malibu tile to go on the stair risers leading to the living room, but hadn't yet had them installed. I wanted to paint and get the tile installed while the room was empty, so I needed to schedule the tile before the floor guys came back to move the furniture after the floor was fully cured. I checked Angie's list and found Carlos. He came by the same day and gave me his bid and said he could do the installation the next day which would leave me time to paint. I told him I needed to talk to my husband first, so he said I could call him up until 11pm. I wasn't able to call him back until about 10:30pm, so he thought it was a no go. When I spoke with him, he had some other projects lined up, but promised he would still work my little job into the schedule. This was further complicated by the fact that I had to leave the house by 5:30pm the next day. Carlos arrived around 2pm, and said not to worry because he would get it done before I had to leave. I explained that the floors had just been done, and weren't quite cured, so I was very concerned that nothing damage them. True to his word, he finished right on the dot, and left my home clean with no damage to the new floors. He was very conscientious and his work is flawless. My husband and I couldn't be more pleased with the work he did, and would not hesitate to use him again.
Description of Work: Malibu (decorative) tile installed on the risers of the two stairs going into the living room.

We had used them before for marble. I liked them very well. They came in and did the work fast. I had already purchased the stone before I even contacted them. I also wanted them to put some marble on some bar tops and they seemed very interested but they didn't get back with me. I assume they lost interest but I would have them back to do work for me again.
Description of Work: I used C-Bek Tile & Stone Design to put marble on another location.
