Carlos was very responsive. I called for an estimate and two hours later he was at my house measuring the countertop. Once we decided to move forward with the install the fabrication and install was completed within 5 days. We have had a lot of contractors in our house over the past few months and he is the only one who put booties on over his shoes to enter our house! We were happy with the countertop and when we move forward within the next 8 months with our next bathroom we will call him to do the work.

We had contacted Carlos several months ago to give us a quote for doing the tile work in our kitchen remodel. He gave us a very competitive price. A number of months passed before we actually got going on the kitchen remodel. During that time I kept email contact with Carlos about our progress. He said he only needed to be notified a week before the work needs to be done. Our backsplash was white subway tile, nothing requiring any special setting products. However, the floor tile we selected was a 1/2" thick cement terrazzo tile that I later found out from the manufacturer of the setting materials that we needed to use a quick set mortar and according to Dal Tile (the retailer) should be pre-sealed before grouting. These weren't in Carlos' bid assumptions. Given the time passing since he first quoted me and the extra care for setting the floor tile, I agreed to give him some additional money for the job. We also ran in to another delay in getting the setting materials because of the manufacturer sales rep screw up. Carlos stuck by us while all this was being worked out. We scheduled the tile installation. Carlos was expecting two days to do the work. I planned for three in case there were any problems. It was good that I did, because one of the floor tiles that was laid was broken. Carlos replaced it on the third day of work, sealed all the floor tile and grouted the tile. Carlos and his workers adapted to using the quick set mortar and did excellent job of laying the tile. The fact that Carlos stuck with us through the delays and working out details, especially since our job was relatively small, speaks highly of Carlos.
Description of Work: Kitchen ceramic tile backsplash and terrazzo tiled floor.
The bathroom remodel started on a Monday with a 3 week time line. We had been without a master bathroom for a while (because of a previous terrible contractor). The master bathroom remodel was not just a straightforward demolish and rebuild because of some previous workmanship and downright bad work. Carlos had to rework some plumbing and electrical work. We started by picking tile Carlos helped with the tile design for our bathroom (floor, shower and around the bath) and made suggestions, which was wonderful because tile stores can be somewhat overwhelming. When tiles were not available he went out of his way to get what we wanted!! After some demolition and hot mop we were off and running with a daily procession of tilers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters and glass guys all of who were wonderful. Carlos has an attention to detail which I love. He does not just want a job done he wants it done to perfection and you to be happy!!! Carlos was at our home everyday not just for 30 minutes but for several hours checking on quality he is not one of those contractors who turns up for a couple of minutes and then you don't see him for a few days Carlos is hands on. We now have the most BEAUTIFUL master bathroom it took a little longer than we had thought but because we were so happy we asked Carlos to remodel our guest bathroom as well. Then in passing I asked if Carlos knew of anyone to put in wood flooring and of course he did! So he organized that too along with crown molding. After 7 weeks of craziness we have a beautiful home with two remodeled bathrooms, wood floors throughout, crown molding throughout. My husband and I are so VERY, VERY happy with how our home now looks. I feel like I have been on one of those home shows where you walk in to your home and just can't believe that it's yours!!! This renovation was a really great experience any problem that cropped up was handled quickly and without drama. Every contractor that Carlos brought into our home was wonderful and excellent at their job not to mention they would clean up every afternoon. Having a bad contractor work on my home I know the difference and now after working with Carlos my faith in contractors has been restored. I have and will continue to recommended Carlos to my friends he is a trustworthy, patient and above all a really nice guy!!!
Description of Work: Carlos came on Saturday morning to quote on a master bath remodel that had gone horribly wrong. Having had a bad contractor I was very nervous to proceed with any contractor. Carlos was great and made me feel comfortable that he could do the job working within our tight budget (we had already spent a lot with the previous terrible contractor)!! As it turned out having finished the master bath we were so happy we went on to do our guest bathroom and then wood floor through out our home. That led to crown molding, which we had always planned on but never done!!! Carlos and his wonderful crew are professional, patient and courteous. I felt very happy with everyone Carlos brought into the job. Carlos' experience in every aspect of our remodel with the fantastic. He brought in great contractors that he had been doing business with for years and trusted to work on our home. He uses family owned companies and knows all the owners and is happy to negotiate prices to work within a budget.

I wouldn't hesitate to contact Carlos again for other work.
Description of Work: I called Carlos to get a phone quote on a new quartz countertop for the bath. He was very prompt in returning my call, and sent a reasonable bid. We chose another contractor but we appreciated the fact that he returned our call so quickly.
I'm extremely happy with the work Carlos Martinez at C-Bek did for us. He's an expert craftsman who really listens to your concerns, and goes the extra mile to make sure your job finishes right. A very nice guy, also. We had a 7 foot crack in the travertine tile in our entry way: it appeared at a "joint" where the older floor met newer construction, and the crack had widened over time. Replacing these 6-7 tiles seemed like a small job but a succession of other contractors fell short in what they said they could do: they could install tile, but couldn't help us locate the matching replacement, OR couldn't duplicate the existing pattern, OR couldn't help secure the "underfloor" joint that produced the crack, etc. Carlos acknowledged that this small job did have complications, and explained that certain choices about the repair had to wait until he could examine the floor underneath the tile. But he made plans for several possibilities, spent real time and energy finding closely matched travertine for the replacement, and brought skilled and trustworthy workers with him to make sure the job moved quickly and efficiently. He personally shaped the tiles, matched the existing grout, and even made sure the polish on the replacement stone matched the existing tile by methodically applying intermediate layers of sealant. Carlos put big effort into what must have been a small job for him: I know he installs complete floors bigger than the square footage of our whole house. I have no doubt his repair solution was the best of all those we heard from contractors. We now have a floor that is cosmetically great, and I believe his work on the floor joint will help prevent the tile from cracking until we get a seismic event. Carlos' solution was not the cheapest bid we received, and we did have to wait for an open slot in his busy schedule: I'm glad we did wait, and I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Crack in travertine stone tiles - approx. 7 feet across a hallway/entryway - indicated that "joint" between two floor surfaces was not secure. We needed the joint reinforced and the cracked tiles replaced (and matched to existing tile).
Carlos came round to quote us for the work and was incredibly professional and patient with us. He talked us through the options and worked hard with our budget to deliver as much of the work we wanted as possible within those confines. When we agreed on the work we wanted done Carlos was able to start almost right away. He started work right after Christmas and worked hard to get everything finished in time for us to move into our new home in late January. Carlos has a tile store in the Van Nuys area so we were able to pick out tiles and granite surfaces in person. We ended up selecting two different types of granite for the kitchen and bathrooms and different tiles for the floors of each room. The quality of the work was fantastic and the job was completed in time and on budget. Carlos was also very understanding of our budget when it came to unexpected extras (e.g. I hadn't factored in needing a new range hood) and negotiated us good discounts on the things we needed with suppliers he knew. We will definitely be getting C-bek back in to build us a custom guest shower and tile our outdoor patio in the near future.
Description of Work: We bought a 1974 Townhouse in early December which needed a bit of TLC in the bathroom and kitchen department. Although most of the house was up to date it looked like these rooms hadn't been touched since the house was built. Work carried out by C-bek included: Refit kitchen including new cabinets, granite tops and stainless steel fixtures Remove dated lighting, repair the kitchen ceiling and install recessed spotlights Install new cabinets, granite tops and vessel basins in both bathrooms Build a new tiled shower enclosure in the master bedroom Tile kitchen, bathrooms a nd laundry room

Overall, both jobs turned out amazing! Carlos and his son do outstanding work. At first after doing a little research I had decided to go with a porcelain through color tile with a Versailles pattern for the floor. At our first estimate meeting Carlos suggested I go with Travertine for a more natural look....and I couldn't be more pleased with the finished result! I was even able to find a stone that I liked at their store with the help of Carlos' wife at a really great price. However, at no point did I ever feel obligated or pressured to buy materials from their store....more about that in job #2. Job #2 the backlash also turned out fantastic. Determining what materials to use for the backslash was difficult. I was able to take home several sheets of samples from their store to use as guides which was a huge help. After several days and numerous samples I found a glass mosaic I liked but from a different store. But like I said before, at no point did I ever feel obligated to buy from their store which had great selection, but just not the color pattern that I ended up buying elsewhere. Once I bought the tile, it only took C-Bek two days to fully complete the entire job. They could have completed it in one day but they had to allow time for the tiles and thin-set to dry before grouting. There were a few issues with the walls being a bit off level as my house was built in the 40's, but they were able to easily fix any issues that arose. Overall, working with Carlos was a pleasure. He was punctual and willing to answer any questions I had along the way. I wouldn't hesitate to use C-Bek Tile in the future for other jobs or recommend them to my friends.
Description of Work: C-Bek performed two separate jobs at my house. First Job - tore out existing floor in kitchen and laundry room....approx. 300 sq feet Repaired any damage to subfloor. Laid a new level concrete base floor and then installed natural Travertine Stone in a Versaille pattern throughout. Then grouted and sealed all surfaces. Second Job - installed glass mosaic tile backslash in kitchen.

Carlos and C-Bek did the tile flooring work in our entire house a few months back. And as a result of the great experience we had with them, we hired them to do the granite countertop work throughout the house. As usual, Carlos was fantastic. He has a good eye for design and a photo library of kitchen work he has performed elsewhere to help you understand both what is possible, and what sort of features work well in certain spaces / layouts. Once we understood the scope of work, Carlos arranged to meet us at a few different granite slab yards throughout the valley to look both at at "slab" granite, and also pre-fabs for the bathrooms. Because Carlos works often with these businesses (and he can buy wholesale through his tile store), he got better pricing than I could get on my own. And while I was willing to split the difference with him, he passed that savings on directly -- which was a fairly substantial savings. We purchased the granite at one location and the pre-fabs at another. When you buy granite slabs, you want to maximze the amount of usuable material per slab (with an eye on aligning seems and grains within the stone). Because we were doing A LOT of square footage, we needed to purchase 3 slabs of granite, one 9ft prefab and one 8 ft prefab. Carlos was good about giving us suggestions to maximize every inch of the granite we had purchased. And rather than waste material we had purchased, we ended up doing the laundry room and an entry area in granite (which are now much nicer than I had expected) -- the cool thing was that the costs for the granite fabrication / install for these areas was offset by our savings in material. So we got MORE and ended up paying the same. Carlos and C-Bek are my go to tile and granite guys. We price checked him on the tile flooring initally and the granite fabrication/ install -- he is competitive in both areas. But beyond price... Carlos is the best VALUE for your dollar. He's not going to rip you off. You can TRUST him, his crew, and that the work will be done with SUPERIOR quality.

Carlos and his team completed all the work and more they were on time, consistent, cleaned up after themselves. Carlos's prices were very fair and was knowledgeable about the construction and the design of my now gorgeous bathroom. Carlos really is a dream come true the complete package and one stop shop for renovations and tile work. If he did not know how to do something or simply did not have time he knew someone who did and all his recommendations were great. Do your self a favor and hire this man he ROCKS!!!!!
Description of Work: I hired Carlos and his crew to demo and completely redo my bathroom shower and floor. They gutted everything, relaid the subfloor, repositioned the shower plumbing, raised the shower head, laid a concrete based, hot mopped, retiled, grouted and sealed everything, installed a built in shower cubby and installed the new shower fixtures. This was a HUGE job! Carlos finished in a week what other contractors told it would take a month.

I scheduled C-Bek Tile to come to my home for an in-home estimate on remodeling my shower. I set up the appointment, and Carlos was to be at my home at 10:00am on Friday, December 28th, 2012. He called around 10 and said he was running late and couldn't be there until 11:30, and he asked if I could wait. So I waited. At 11:30, he called and said that he could not come for the estimate after all due to me being about a mile outside their service area. (Why didn't he tell me this when he Googled my address originally?) Despite the inconvenience to me, missing a half day of work for nothing, I was very understanding, and that was that.... I thought. I did find a different company to estimate the job. I put down a deposit, and scheduled the work to begin on Monday, December 31st. When I was tile hunting over the weekend, I found that the tile I wanted couldn't be gotten from the supplier until at least a week longer. Therefore I texted to the number that I thought was my tile guy's number and told him the situation. We texted back and forth discussing rescheduling, my sincere apologies, etc. I even said, right in my text, "Hey Joe, this is Noelle", to be sure I had the correct person. Joe said don't worry about it, he can put my job off, etc. So here's where it gets weird!! Monday morning arrives, and here come Joe and his three man crew arriving to start the job! I said, "Didn't you get my texts?" He said, "No!" Here's the bottom line, Carlos received all of my texts because I sent them to the wrong number. Carlos pretended to be Joe!!!!!!! He answered my texts back, discussing tile choices, time frames, and my sincerest apology for the reschedule, pretending to be someone else!!!!!!!! So I ended up with a VERY uncomfortable and downright EMBARRASSING situation with four guys ready to work on Monday morning and me having to turn them away. I called Carlos to ask him why he did that. Why, when I was clearly talking to Joe (again, mentioning "Joe, this is Noelle" in my texts), did he do that to me? He just laughed and said in a very cavalier manner that he was sorry. Believe me, this guy is the most UNPROFESSIONAL person I've dealt with in a long time. If this is how he treated me before he actually performed the job, I can only imagine what nightmare might have ensued in the performance of the job in my home. DO NOT USE THIS CONTRACTOR, unless the above behavior sounds appropriate to you.
Description of Work: Services weren't performed due to situation described below.

Response from C-Bek Tile & Stone Design Inc
I am very sorry for this huge misunderstanding. All my clients know that I am professional in how I conduct business. Member did text me, but she did not use the name "Joe" she used the name "Kenji". I honestly thought that she had just forgot my name which is "Carlos"...not "Kenji". This is my error because I should have told her she had gotten my name wrong. I did not intend to do any harm or pretend to be another contractor. It was all a misunderstanding and I extend my deepest apologies. When she initially called me I thought she was closer then she really was. We started driving toward the area and stopped at a gas station. This is when we googled the address and realized it was out of our service area. We were still an hour away from her house. I called her and asked her if she was in LA county (which I do service) and she said she was on the border of Orange County (which I do not service). Again I extend my apologies. This was all a misunderstanding.
We just bought a home and realized that we needed to put a bit of work into it before we moved in. The carpets were quite dirty, the carpet in the bathrooms needed to be removed and it needed a fresh coat of paint. I found Carlos through Angie's list, he had great reviews, so I gave him a call. He was very pleasant on the phone and very flexible with a tight estimate schedule that I had. (We purchased a home but, the sellers had not moved yet and they were not very open to letting us get contractors into the home. They gave us 1/2 hour on one day only - very short notice but, that is another story). Carlos was able to make himself available for the last minute estimate and measurements. Carlos gave me a good price on the labor for removing the carpeting and installing new travertine. I also received a great price on some very nice travertine at his wife Patricia's tile shop. Carlos sealed the deal by assuring me that he would be able to make my tight installation schedule (had to coordinate with carpet contractor and painters). Carlos and crew showed up on time, worked very hard and did an impressive job in getting all of the work done in 2-3 days, they even worked on Thanksgiving day in order to get the job finished - I did not expect that at all. The new flooring looks spectacular! After we moved in, we realized that the kitchen needed some help as well. Carlos was very helpful in assisting us with our decision to buy granite counter tops - he even met us at a granite dealer to look through slabs with us. We decided on the granite on a Saturday and Carlos had it measured, fabricated and installed by Thursday, with an undermount sink as well. The new granite completely transformed our kitchen. We were debating on refacing or staining the cabinets but now we aren't going to do either one - it looks great as is. I am very happy we chose to go with Carlos and C-Bek, they did a fantastic job on the flooring and on our counter tops. If we do anything else related to tile or stone, I will not hesitate in calling on Carlos again.
Description of Work: Removed carpet and linoleum from 3 bathrooms, installed travertine tile in place of previous flooring. Also removed existing tiled kitchen countertops and fabricated and installed granite countertops and backsplash in kitchen.

Overall, excellent. The son and a helper did the job in a day and a half and the finished product is perfect. Only complaint is that it took weeks to get them out here to do the work and Carlos (owner) was supposed to handle the job. Instead he sent his son without telling us ahead of time which was a surprise and a bit disappointing as we waited for weeks until Carlos was supposedly free. He also didnt tell his son the scope of the job which lead to a few delays. It worked out fine as the son did an A+ job and we are happy

When the plumbing job was finished - a large part of the bathroom floor had the tiles removed - we needed someone to put down the new tiles and grind down the concrete that the plumber had put in. I called Carlos - found him here on Angie's List! - and he said they usually don't just do repairs, but he'd fit the job in if he could. (We needed it done on a specific day and I probably sounded desperate.) Smooth sailing from then on. He fit us in, sent Marcos over to do the concrete and tile work and showed up later himself to do the grout work and the cleanup. Marcos was very nice and professional and so was Carlos. And the room was spotless when the job was finished. It was a perfect experience. This is exactly how you'd like a job done. Applause, applause.
Description of Work: Tiles had to be replaced in a bathroom floor due to a plumbing issue. The concrete had to be ground down because the plumber didn't allow for the tiles when he covered the huge hole in the floor. The grinding was done, the tiles were put down and grouted.

We gathered several estimates for a major job -- tile flooring in many rooms of our house. We also installed a range of different tile types. Carlos's estimate, while not the rock-bottom cheapest, won because he earned our trust. He is super professional, has a great reputation, and really cares about his customers. He is a great communicator and never hesitates to call for clarification. His crew was great-- friendly, tidy, professional and precise. Carlos also has a great eye-- he helped us with many of our design decisions.

Carlos is one of the most responsive and humble contractors I've dealt with. Upon first talking to him he was very willing to work within my budget. After our initial conversation he either answered my follow-up calls or called me back quickly. He also responded promptly to my texts and emails. His work was top notch. He arrived punctually, and took great care to seal off my kitchen with plastic from ceiling to floor so the granite dust from the saw wouldn't blow throughout my home. He was meticulous with the measurements and although he could've simply cut a bit more to fit the sink easily, he made the cuts so precise that the sink was snug as a bug. Basically it was a perfect fit for my new sink so I didn't need to use the under-sink clips that came with the sink. And I had minimal clean up because of his careful preparation. He finished the sawing within less than 30 minutes and the result was fantastic. I highly recommend C-Bek to anyone in need of stone cutting work.
Description of Work: I needed the corners of my existing granite sink cutout to be shaved (sawed) down to fit my new sink. Fairly straightforward job, but in need of a skilled hand because there was little room for error. I was installing a new top-mount sink.

Our slate tile was popping off of our entry stairs as a result of poor instalation. Other companies suggested that we replace the tile however Carlos was almost positive that he could remove it and re-use it saving us a lot of money. His team worked fast and clean and even squeezed us in as the last minute. They didin't break one tile. I am very happy with both the service and the quality of work that C-Bek provided.
Description of Work: C Bek removed outdoor slate tile, prepared the surface, re-installed the same slate tiles, and sealed the surface.

Carlos had previously done tile work for us in our kitchen and bathroom. They did a great job. We were planning to have IKEA do the countertops, but due to problems with their cabinet installer, we decided to cancel the countertop order with them. We asked Carlos for help. He told us not to worry. He agreed to do the job and would match the sale price we had gotten from IKEA. He even went a little lower in price. The countertops are now done. They look beautiful. We are very happy with the work that Carlos has done for us and would recommend C-BEK Tile to others.
Description of Work: Carlos and his crew installed countertops in our kitchen and dining room.

Fantastic! Carlos is a master at his craft. He is professional and easy to work with. The job was done in 3 days. Very little dust in the house from the demo. Everything was cleaned up at the end of each day. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the result.
Description of Work: Removal of kitchen appliances, demo of old tile floor in kitchen, floated new concrete, placed porcelain tiles (6 inches wide by 48 inches long), installed molding at level of floor; grout was mixed with sealer; space between tiles was 1/16th of an inch; replaced appliances.
