Miguel repaired a GFCI in one bathroom that was not working and which was also causing a GFCI in another bathroom and 3 bedroom receptacles to not work. He also rewired the 2 bathroom GFCI's so that each worked independently from each other and the bedroom receptacles. Several days later, the bathroom and bedroom receptacles stopped working again. Miguel came back out and after a great deal of patient and diligent searching discovered that a loose neutral wire in an unrelated bedroom was causing the outage. He promptly corrected the situation at no charge. I have used Johnson Electric before and have always found his employees to be professional, knowledgeable and courteous. His rate is reasonable ($75.per hour) and his service is prompt and honest.
Description of Work: Repaired and rewired 2 GFCI's in 2 bathrooms; changed 3 receptacles in bedroom from 2-pronged to 3-pronged.

Integrity is one of the most important things to us when hiring an electrician. So when we called Johnson's Electric for a "free quote" at our house, we expected them to act with integrity by (a) sending out certified electricians and (b) honoring their promise of a free quote. However, when the electricians came over to our house, it was clear that Johnson's Electric acts has no integrity at all. First of all, the 2 men who showed up at my house were not certified electricians at all but were 2 handymen without professional electric training. Then, they looked at my ceiling for all of 60 seconds, started unscrewing the light fixture, and said "we'll fix this right now". They hadn't even quoted me a price yet! Nor did they go into the attic to examine the broken/frayed/exposed electrical wiring like the REAL electricians from the other 2 companies did that we called for free quotes. I told them that I had ONLY asked for a quote and NO work at all was to be done without my permission or consent. The handyman then said, "We can do this for about $100", and persisted in trying to convince me to let him do the work. I know from the other certified electricians who quoted me close to $500 to do my work that this was not a $100 job. In fact, the reason that I even had a broken light fixture to begin with was because a handyman (NOT an electrician) quoted me $100 but didn't know the first thing about electricity. So anyways, this guy from Johnson's Electric was literally bullying me to do the work. When I told him "no work today, just a quote", he got angry and insisted on doing work by saying "no no, boss said here to fix." He then called his boss at Johnson's Electric and told me that I owed him $75 for the visit because they do not do free quotes. This was NEVER discussed in the initial call with Johnson's Electric. I refused to pay and their boss decided to "waive the $75 fee" which was never disclosed to us ahead of time anyways. Completely unprofessional and would never use them. Beware if you are older or live alone. This is just a company looking to bully people into their unprofessional services, and expecting money without any written or signed contract. In fact, I am now afraid of retaliation from this company so I have alerted all of my friends and family members that if anything happens to me or my property -- now or in the future -- that Johnson's Electric is the first company to suspect.
Description of Work: No services rendered.

Response from JOHNSON ELECTRIC
This is baffling to me. I believe we have a failure to communicate correctly unfortunately. Our discussion left me with an impression that you required service to fix your electrical problem. If you needed an estimate I would have been there to do that personally. I have discussed this with my crew and the only conclusion i can come to is there was a failure to communicate. If there is anything else I can help you with , please feel free to call

My outdoor motion-sensor floodlight was not activating, so I called to have it checked. Keith told me that it might be a bad sensor, and if that was the case, I would need a new light fixture. He asked if I wanted to purchase a new unit myself for them to install. He advised that this would be less expensive than if they brought the new light with them. I told him to go ahead and bring one. The appointment was scheduled for the following morning. They arrived several minutes ahead of schedule, introduced themselves, and went to work. The problem was the sensor, so they replaced the unit, set it, and tested it to be sure it was working. I felt that the price was very fair, and I had also been given an option to buy my own fixture. They were courteous and very professional.
Description of Work: They checked my non-working outdoor floodlight and found that the sensor was malfunctioning. They replaced the fixture, set it, and checked for response.

Easy to work with. I was able to get a price over the phone. Quick response. All done in one day. Two men came to install. They made a new connection. They patched all holes that they had to make. They were clean and fast. Easy experience.
Description of Work: We needed to move a motion detector outdoor light off the garage and onto the front of the house in order to light up the driveway. A new electrical connection needed to be made to accommodate the light fixture.

Two men came out and quickly assessed the problem. They found other things that I needed done electrically but did not do any high pressure selling; just informed me of what needed to be done. I had one "by the way while you're here" job which they did right away. This is definitely a company that's a "keeper."
Description of Work: Called this company because the lights in the bathroom blew out, and when I tried to pull the breaker, more lights went out. They came out the same day and quickly assessed the problem and went to work. After the necessary breakers were replaced, the lights were still not on in the bathroom, and they got into the attic and took the ceiling fixture off to take care of the problem that way. Finally, everything worked.

I tried a couple of places from Angie's list, needed someone to come out the same day as the whine was awful. Johnson's sent out someone late that afternoon. The man who came out, Miguel, stopped the whine immediately, but now we had to wait for parts... Keith Johnson, the owner, gave me a break on the price of the second visit for me because it could have all been done in one hour visit had I had the parts. The second time Miguel brought a second man, and it really did take both of them to reinstall it, but the deal the owner made me still stuck. I would LOOK for things for them to do they were so great.
Description of Work: My ceiling fan was not only dead but was making a high whine, driving me batty. Turns out it was the receiver that needed replacing, REplaced parts, aligned fan, great job.

My husband called them on Thursday 9/3/09 at 9 a.m. and they were at the house at 9:45 a.m. They finished by 12:40. They installed ceiling fans in two bedrooms and the kitchen all of which had existing ceiling lights and installed a fan in the living which had no ceiling light. So they had to wire the fan.
Description of Work: Four ceiling fans were installed. 3 in existing light fixtures and one where they had to hook up electric to it. They also repaired out electrical box by fixing the cover. They explained the what the different breakers were.

It went great. They were accurate with quote, and the best price. Others wanted to change quote upon looking at the job. They did what I asked, cleaned up after themselves and were very helpful. The work was done with care and I have not had any problems with it so far. I am asking them back to do further work on the house.

Overall, the work was satisfactory. A problem arose where I believed that his worker was responsible for a printer becoming inoperable. Johnson disagreed, but told me to withhold payment for the outlet until I had the printer checked out. I thought this was very fair. I had the printer checked out. It was not their fault so I sent him the remainder of the money I owed.

I called the company at 3:00 p.m. on December 29th and the man who answered the phone said that someone would be out between 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. the next day. I was surprised they were willing to come out that quickly for a non-emergency due to the holiday. I expected to be told "see you next week". The electrician arrived as promised and tested the main panel and the wall outlets. He found the main in good order and that each of the wall outlets that were giving me trouble were actually broken and needed replacing. He showed me the broken outlets. He quickly replaced them and left. He was competent and friendly. What was extraordinary was that I had completely forgotten to have him check the laundry room before he had left. I quickly phoned the company and they persisted in contacting him and sent him back. He replaced a badly broken outlet and did not charge me for coming back. I did give him a tip because I find this sort of professional care of the customer rare and I want to encourage this "old fashioned" way of doing business.
