Switched Electric

My experience went very well. The staff was very professional and friendly while visiting. I was pleased with the service and would recommend this company to others.

The work was amazingly thorough. First came the labeling of the box. Up and down and all around the house the owner/electrician went to figure out what governed what. Rather a mess in our 60 year old house. Next came the examination of electrical connections and installations. This revealed one problem that needs fixing. Other little issues were, he said, not necessary to address. Follow up came within a few days with an estimate for the work to fix the one issue and an electrical plan of our house for future reference and any urgent calls. From this outline advice could be given by phone and/or scheduling of necessary repair. We were impressed and gratified.

I purchased a Big Deal for a circuit board labeling and inspection. He was very thorough and explained everything well, he really knows the business. While he was inspecting a wall outlet caught on fire. They are coming back out to do some more work soon. I recommend them to anybody.

Seth was very good, but had to leave for a short time to get more ribbon for his label maker. I thought that should have been checked before coming. It wasn't a big deal because I'm retired, but if I were a working person who took off work I would be a bit upset. Seth also promised to send a glue on sheet for the electrical panel door with the information on it but we never received it. I contacted Seth by phone about two weeks ago and we're still waiting for it.

They were nice, came out to my house and determined can not be installed and asked me to ask angieslist for refund. BUT I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER DEAL FROM ANGIESLIST AGAIN AND I STRONGLY RECOMMEND OTHERS WOULD NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM ANIGIESLIST EITHER. For the following reasons: 1. I have had bad experiences with some providers sold by angieslsit. There is no real criteria of screening before selling these deals. Many providers are rated B or so which means their service has been unsatisfactory. I have even had disappointing experiences with their A rated providers. Angieslist is just trying to profit from selling these deals without a consideration for the quality of service or consumer protection. me2. In some instances, even the provider accepted the extremely poor service and admitted to a refund. However, angieslsit did not agree with that and did not allow the refund!!! In one instance, the service was not even provided since the merchant did not deliver it in a timely fashion. Again, they accepted their short-coming and agreed with the refund. However, angieslist blocked the refund due to a " 30-day refund policy!!! It is ludacrious that they expect a 30 day refund request while the provider that they have recommended has taken longer to respond. If I had bought the deal directly from the provider I would have received a refund and an apology. But angieslist, instead of being on the side of the consumer as they advertise., is only after making their own profit. 3. For the above reasons, I recommend using yelp in your area, finding high-rated providers and shopping from them directly. Yelp is indeed impartial, but angieslit is basically trying to make money for itself. In addition, yelp is free! It is ironic that angieslsit charges us a membership fee to help us consumers avoid dishonest merchants while they themselves are the most dishonest merchant of all time.

The job was completed quickly and well. On reflection, the price seems high for one day's work by one person, but it was exactly the estimated cost.

It came out fine. He was very nice and he seemed very competent. I didn't have any dislikes about him.

My experience was good, but after this visit I won't be using them again. The guy that came he was pretty good but he had brought the wrong paperwork with him and he had difficulty getting the report he had done back to me when I asked for it. A couple of the things that he recommended I didn't do. I think that they are a good company but I never used their services after the inspection. The list of things they suggested to have done after the inspection were not things that I thought needed to be done or if they did need to be done I could have done them a lot less expensively. It was things like having fault outlets installed, which is really easy to install. They wanted $150 each, for each installation. I thought that was fine to put in all of the switches but they wanted that for each switch to be installed. Those switches on their own cost less than $20, so I didn't like that. That's why I decided not to work with Switched Electric again, but the $100 for the inspection was good and I'm glad I got that done. Having the inspection done showed me the faults and what things needed to be done and that was helpful. But I was able to find another electrician to take care of all of the suggestions at a lower cost. I thought the inspection was good and a good value but I would not have then come in and charge me $150 to do a simple installation that I could do. I though that was a little over the top.

Gave me a break on the cost as the fix was so quick.

I found the inspection to be very informative. I learned a lot from it about my electrical system like what was unsafe and what needed to be done. He told me at the time that he was very expensive but had him send a quote anyway. He was right. It seemed very expensive to me. I ended up having the work done by someone who was recommended by a friend and did it for less than half of what the quote was from Switched Electric, and I had him do more than what the quote covered!

Fantastic work, very professional and friendly. We'll use them again!

Inspection included the entire house including attic, basement and exterior. He gave me a quick debriefing at the end of the visit. He identified and explained potentially hazardous conditions strongly recommended for updates, and other recommended changes. He came on time and was thorough in his inspections. He was respectful and courteous, and answered all of my questions. A written report was provided on the same day.

Tuesday night we smelled burning electrical wires, but the smell was so strong we couldn't pinpoint the source. So we called the fire department. They made a thorough check of the house with a heat sensor, and although they, too, smelled the smell, they could not find a hot spot. The next morning it was clear the smell was coming from the 40+ year-old breaker box, located in the back of the front hall coat closet. I looked at recommendations on Angie's List and phoned Switched Electric. Seth, the owner came out the same day and took the breaker box apart, examining each breaker carefully. He found one with a partially melted plastic case and recommended replacing that one and the two adjacent breakers in case they had also suffered heat damage. He made a thorough inspection of all the elements in the breaker box and said the rest of the box looked good, even though it's more than 40 years old. Replacing the box would have meant cutting a hole through the wall in the back of the closet and mounting a new box on the wall of the adjacent room. It's no longer legal to mount a box inside a closet where there are many flammables. We were glad to know that the old box still looked good and we could avoid a major re- installation job. Nate came the following day and quickly replaced the three damaged breakers. Both men were very professional, took care to protect their shoes with disposable booties when they came into the house, and explained things clearly. The woman at the office was careful to let me know when the men would arrive and when they were on their way. Nate actually came earlier than expected, but the office had let me know, and asked if that was OK. They even sent a hand-written thank-you note after the job was finished.

The service was great. They were prompt in doing a very thorough and good job. I just liked that they showed up right on time and were courteous the entire time they were here. The work turned out really good. I purchased the big deal and had that once service done.

I had read the number of reviews on the company that were positive and had very high expectations. Happily, they were met and possibly even exceeded. Seth came on time, was courteous, efficient and communicative. I needed work done before I left for a trip, and a Switched representative came to our house on New Year's Day to make the repairs. Once again on time, courteous, communicative and efficient. They finished the work faster than I expected with high quality.

I felt that the electrician was well qualified and skilled, but it was very difficult to find a time available to reschedule his visit, in order to review his report and discuss recommendations for needed electrical improvements. So far, I have never received the report, so my $49.00 was wasted.

Let me say that over the prior 3 years other electricians I've interviewed (and hired but who weren't able to follow-through because they took a more lucrative job instead of mine) quoted the permit approval process and required solution as complicated and expensive and lengthy. Luckily those other didn't work out because using Seth Electric was low drama, cost a fraction as compared to others, was expedient, simple and honest. I couldn't be any happier with this service.

The apartment wherein the work was performed is located in a building that is nearly 100 years old. The electrical composition of the apartment's wiring included a mishmash of wiring including the original "knob and tube." The work was completed to spec and ahead of schedule . Protective sheeting was placed on the floor and on the tenant's possessions thereby minimizing the disturbance/inconvenience that the work created for the tenants. From the first contact I had with Seth ( the owner of Switched Electric), through the completion of the job , both Seth and his staff were skilled, punctual, communicative, and professional. I would and will use Switched electric again, and would not hesitate to recommend them to friends and neighbors.

Called to make bid arrangement, but did not receive reply. Finally called home office who then made contact with Nathan. I felt that the bid was way too steep for type of service required, therefore we did not utilize this companies services.

We had purchased the Big Deal. They cut big holes on the ceiling of 2 bathrooms and removed the old fans and then they hooked up the new fan and did not patch the hole. The guy who was in charge told me that it was not in the contract. I had to get somebody else to come out here and patch the holes in the ceiling. Those guys were a bunch of bones. That was unbelievable. You can’t believe what my bathroom ceiling looked like after those guys left. They were nice, they were two of them. The older guy, I guess who was in charge and there was the younger guy who was doing most of the work. It was the old guy who told me that it was not in the contract for them to fix the ceiling after they cut it open. It was unbelievable. They just plugged in the new fan and it was hanging up here. So I had to go to the son-in-law to take care of that. Now it looks okay.

I had purchased the Big Deal. I had a very noisy bathroom fan and I wanted to get a quieter one but I did not know until they were here that the Deal did not include a quieter fan and we were already stuck with putting the fan in. It was disappointing. As for their responsiveness I tried to call them for another service and it took them quite a while for them to get back to me, I guess there was a death in the family so they did not get back to me right away. So I was disappointed in that.

Purchased Angie deal for VIP Platinum Package with whole house Electrical Inspection. Very happy with the service received so far. Seth (owner) responded and did the inspection right away. He was very knowledgeable and professional. I received his report by email right away. He helped me identify electrical work needed in future. He followed up and let me know he is ready to do additional work whenever I am ready. Right now the ball is in my court. I am certain I will use him to do additional work in the future. I think this is a great electrical contracting company.
