We have high ceilings so we could not inspect the lights very well. When I called, they were very helpful in asking questions and finding out if they would be prepared to work on the lights. They were concerned with how high the lights were and didn't want to come out if they did not have the proper equipment first. I measured and they were not too high. The technician came out on time, was very efficient in doing the work, fit within the estimate, and was overall very helpful and competent fixing our problems. He determined that the lights were OK but were loose (in addition to the bulbs being burned out). He replaced all of the lights and replaced all of our smoke alarms that were going off in the middle of the night. They have worked perfectly ever since. They were easy to schedule (had lots of openings). Overall, I highly recommend them and would use them again.
Description of Work: They did trouble shooting on ceiling lights that were not working and smoke alarms that were malfunctioning.

Well what can i say? The Big Deal ad these guys put out was a little misleading. For $125 they will install an outside electrical box so you can install Christmas lights safely. However, the fine print says that you must have back to back receptacle area for installation (inside wall must have outlet to connect to outside). If you missed this clause -- then you are out of luck. What it doesn't say is that the outdoor box will share the same circuit as the indoor outlet. So if you already have a heavy load on that circuit adding lights won't be very safe. They are definitely towing the line between a legit ad and a misleading ad. At the very least they should have clarified the fine print when setting the appointment, instead of wasting my time and theirs.

Response from The Electric Connection
We were invited by Angie's List to provide this service to Angie's List customers who responded to the Angie's List "Big Deal" coupon that they emailed to all of their Los Angeles area customers. This customer apparently didn't understand what the coupon was offering. We're sorry that this customer did not understand the "Big Deal" coupon that he purchased from Angie's List, but the coupon description did state specifically what the job would be. This customer wanted us to do a different and much larger job than what the coupon offer described. This was the very first person who responded to the Angie's List coupon offer. We now make a point of going over the details of the coupon with each customer before sending our electrical technician to do the job. This type of situation is not at all typical for us, and we were not trying to be misleading in any way. We are very committed to operating our business with a high level of integrity and providing our customers with excellent service. We're sorry there was a customer misunderstanding of the Angie's List coupon offer. Sincerely, The Electric Connection

The technician went straight to work cheerfully and efficiently and finished all the work quickly and to my satisfaction. Although the contract sheet said that the cost was $64 for the first 1/2 hour and $44 for each additional 1/2 hour, the technician wanted to charge based on the job, for example, a circuit is $325 and a plug is $125. However, when I pointed out the hourly rate on the contract , he cheerfully figured the bill based on the hourly rate. The estimate for future work, however, is based on a charge per plug or circuit making the job unaffordable. The reason I called this company is that they had the hourly rate and I could calculate how much (or how little ) I could afford. At $88 per hour for labor the estimated work will take 10 hours based in the quoted price. Having been through a lot of remodels I know the work will not take that much time and therefore I would be paying about $300 per hour. I do not blame the technician as I assume he is following the policies of the office.

Requesting and scheduling service was an easy/quick phone call. The phone representative was very polite. I explained the primary purpose of the call was to replace a blown breaker, and the phone representative assured me he would have the necessary parts. The electician was scheduled to arrive between 9 and 11, I was pleased he arrived at 9:15. He was clean and polite, but not particularly friendly or social . . . not a big deal to me, but really would have put off other members of my family had they been the one to direct the repairs. We quickly found that he did not have a new replacement breaker, so in the interest of time I went to the electrical store (Courtesy Electric on Main Street in Alhambra -- I highly recommend them vs. going to Home Depot down the street) while he worked on replacing the outlets. He cleaned up after himself but did not clean up the scorch marks on the wall left from when the old outlet blew . . . again it is not a big deal, but the type of thing that takes you from good to excellent. He was extremely efficient with his time and, with the Angie's List coupon giving me $25 off, the price was very good. So, the only problem with the entire experience was him not having the breaker as originally promised. In my case, that issue was easily corrected, but it would have been a nightmare had my wife been the one to recieve the call. All-and-all I have no problem recommending them and I am actually thinking about having them do another small project in the house to save me the time and stress.

Response from The Electric Connection
We carry many types of circuit breakers on our trucks. As it turned out, though, this particular circuit breaker was a very unusual 50 year old Zinsco “double thin” circuit breaker, and that’s why we didn’t have one on our truck. Although we would have been happy to pick up the circuit breaker for the customer, he opted to pick it up himself. Also, we always strive to do the best possible job with clean up after our own work. In this case, the scorch marks were on the wall beforehand, and had nothing to do with the work we did for this customer. Our electrician working on the job did not know the customer expected us to clean up a mess for him that we did not create.

Excellent experience overall; I made an initial service call and spoke to a receptionist just after 8 this morning. Call then was returned a short time later by a scheduler who referred me to another person who called back and gave me a price quote over the phone. I ok'ed the price and was given back to the scheduler who gave me a 2-hour time window at my convenience (noon-2pm). I got another phone call from the scheduler at just before noon, who said their techs would be out in about a half-hour. They showed up on time and promptly replaced the two ballasts. Both technicians were nice guys; one named Omar, was very patient and answered all of my questions. He also did a written bid for us to have some outdoor security & garage lighting installed. The bid seemed reasonable; Omar told me we would need to purchase our lighting fixtures prior to their coming out to install them.

This is my second time working with Electric Connection. Requested an estimate through Angie's list link, and received response the next day. Estimate was competitive with other quotes received. Scheduled appointment for 10-12, and their office called just before 10 to let me know they were on their way. Electricians were very prompt, pleasant, and professional. Work took about 4 hours with no problems. Drop cloths covered the hallways and bathrooms where they worked, and they cleaned up quickly and thoroughly, even vacuuming the hall. New bathroom fans were smaller than the existing, so they had to rough patch the ceilings, they did a nice job and it won't require too much finishing. Very happy with the work and will definitly hire again.

Called company to have electrical work done and was told that they don't provide service to my area. I told the person on the phone that their website lists Arcadia, Temple City, and San Gabriel on it as areas that they serve. He said they would have to fix that and refused to take the job stating that they don't go out that far. This company needs to revamp their information and website details. If I can't trust one piece of information on their site, how can I trust the rest of the information????

So sorry! This was entirely our mistake, because as it turns out we do service Temple City. We very seldom receive calls from this city, so our dispatcher accidentally overlooked the fact that it's one of the cites we serve. As a result, the wrong information was given to the customer. We always strive to accommodate all of our customers, and we apologize for any inconvenience that we may have caused.

These guys are experts at what they do. My fantastic journey with this company began with great customer service on the phone. When I first called and said I have a Craftsman home that needed rewiring, the operator connected me with the owner, Kim. Who, by the way, is well known by DWP Spotters and the City Inspectors for the Los Angeles area (they all spoke favorably about him and his company). I spoke with Kim for a length of time about my home. He told me not to worry because "they" love to rewire Craftsman houses. After our conversation, he transferred me to the kind dispatcher, Luis, who scheduled the initial appointment. Hugo (president) met with me the next day. He is what every company needs as their front man. He spent an hour with me walking every inch of my home, inside and out. He listened to my needs and wants, helped guide me towards making smart decisions, and offered numerous options. Afterwards, Hugo excused himself to his vehicle for about twenty minutes to write the bid. He then spent another hour presenting to me a detailed, comprehensive proposal that was line itemized by rooms in a very organized format. When he left, all I could say was "Wow!" I knew right away I wanted to hire The Electric Connection but I needed at least two more bids. The other companies that bid on the job were from Angie's List too. They were comparable in price, but did not offer nowhere near the personal customer service, attention to detail, and scope of work as The Electric Connection. Instead of letting me know exactly what my money was paying for, the other companies wrote on the contract that the work would be "performed to code." In my opinion, they were telling me that they were only going to do the minimum in order to pass inspection--NOT GOOD! I chose The Electric Connection. There's too much to mention, but here's my attempt at summarizing. They met and exceeded the minimum standards. I knew exactly what they were doing each step of the way. Each day, the terrific trio team of Ernie, Baldazar, and Juan arrived at my home between 8-9am (most mornings right at 8). They were neat, clean, and always had a smile on their face (Juan was a little too happy--lol). They wasted no time. Immediately, they took out all their tools, laid tarp on the floors and sheathing on the furniture. They meticulously searched for the most unobtrusive way to cut holes and run new wiring--minimizing patching. They worked under the house, in the attics, on the roof, in tight spaces. When they finished, the old wiring, plates, switches and outlets were removed, new ones were installed with fixtures, rough patching was completed, and the room was swept/vacuumed. Once, while searching for the best place to bring wires to an outdoor area, they located an additional 160 sq. ft. of unused space (80 sq. ft. on each side behind the closets. I will be opening up these walls and expanding on my next remodel. And of course, I will be calling The Electric Connection to do my wiring. Ernie, Baldazar, and Juan were also very patient with me and the many questions I asked. What a great team! I can go on and on about how professional, knowledgeable, trustworthy, and pleasant these guys are. Find out for yourself. For all your electrical needs, The Electric Connection is your one-stop shop. Thanks for such a wonderful experience. I miss you guys already.
Description of Work: Rewired a two story, 1910 Craftsman Bungalow, 2010 sq. ft., Installed a 200 amp electrical panel with 15 circuits--approximately 20 switches, 22 lights (including 5 ceiling fans and all fixtures) 28 receptacles (including 1 front, 1 back, 1 for sprinkler system), 2 motion sensors, 2 bathroom exhaust w/ lights (one with heater), 4 recess lighting, 6 smoke detectors, removed all old wiring (sub attic, attic, under house, and in walls), checked kitchen previously wired for full connectivity, rough patched openings, city permit, called and met with inspector, cleaned area.

This is the second time I have used the Electric Connection, and again they were great. They showed up right on time and were patient and professional as I explained the outlet problems. They had to access my attic and basement, but were considerate enough to clean the access areas (my closet) when they finished. They charge by the hour, so it was nice to see they had all the tools they needed to get the job done fast and correctly. I would use them again in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: I had an outlet in my bathroom that needed to be checked. The wiring in the attic for the lights and outlet in the bathroom were loose, so they had to fix the issue. I also went from a 10 year old basic dryer to a new front loading dryer that required the outlet in the laundry room to be updated. They installed a new breaker in my electrical box to alleviate the issue.

I called on Thursday and the guys showed up on Friday (on-time). The did a great job running the wires and installing all of the outlets especially in a very old house. They even rough patched the holes they needed to make running the wires. Very happy with the quality of workmanship.

If you need an electrician, you need to call these guys. They were pleasant, efficient and professional from the first phone call to the last goodbye and thank you. I had quite a list of fairly small projects and they sent three people so that things would get done quickly and efficiently. Omar was great. He spent some extra money but on things that really matter (two old smoke alarms) actually going out and finding one that was easier for me to change the batteries on myself after I told him that was an issue. The other two gentlemen put together the most complicated ceiling fan I've ever seen, and cleanly and neatly installed a GFI outlet on the back patio, volunteering to crawl under the house to do the installation so that I wouldn't have an unattractive conduit pipe running down the wall. I've had many bad experiences with electricians and this is one company I will gladly and confidently call again for any electrical projects.

How many companies these days are that honest with you? Not many. I appreciated the help.
Description of Work: Although they did not do the work, I was very impressed with this company. Upon speaking with Kim on the phone, I gave him the description of our electrical problem and where we were located. He was able to tell me that while they were willing to come down to my area, I would probably be better off hiring someone closer to me because it would cost me less. Then, he proceeded to tell me how much my problem should cost to get fixed in order to make sure I did not get cheated by another company.

The best experience I've had with a contractor like this. Two electricians showed up promptly at 8 am, fixed the first problem in about 30 seconds (believe me, worth it after I got a shock last night from trying to pull it out myself), and then got right to the second issue and wrapped it up in about 30 minutes. In, out, respectful, professional. Great experience.
Description of Work: 1. Part of a plug had broken off in an outlet (and was charged, so I found out when I tried to pull it out!). 2. I needed an outlet to be disconnected from the wall switch, but because another outlet had to stay connected, they couldn't just de-activate the switch itself. So basically they had to rewire the outlet so it didn't turn on with the switch.
