American Overhead Garage Doors

It was painless. Dana gave me an estimate a few days before, we scheduled the work, and the door was installed without a hitch.

I was an idiot and closed my garage on something. I bent the rails, door, snapped cables you name it. This happened on a Saturday. Called Dana on Sunday he said he would come but since it was Sunday it would be more so we pushed it off to Monday. He came and fixed all the damage cost $350. For that price he replaced both cables, balanced springs, straightened rails and made sure ever everything was mounted as it should be. We had discussed replacing my 20 yr old opener too but after he did the repairs he said it all worked fine so it was up to me. He did no try to up sale me. In the end I had him install a new door opener since it was something I wanted to do when I bought the place. Maybe not at this time but figured since he was already doing the work. After some negotiation he installed it for $400 plus an extra remote. Installation included safety sensors. I checked the price of the model and online I found from $250-350 so not bad for installed price. They ran all the wiring nicely and did and excellent job.

Came and gave me an estimate, signed a contract, told me when they would be here, came as agreed upon while I wasn't home, installed the door and opener, left the remotes where they said they would, cleaned up and will call tonight to get the payment.

They were responsive, came by right away to do the work, and did a great job.

I called for an estimate to fix an old garage door that wasn't opening or closing properly. They came out the next day and said the door had two different size springs, that's why it was cockeyed, and that he recommended replacing the hardware. It would cost 350 plus 65 service charge. I said okay. They worked for approximately one hour. The door works very well. I can close it and lock it. They were very professional. I am happy with the work.

I've used American Overhead Garage Doors before to repair some broken springs and hinges on my garage door, and they did an excellent job. This time, the decades-old motor started showing its age and malfunctioning sporadically, so I scheduled an appointment with them to replace the unit. They arrived right on schedule and did the work in just a couple of hours. The installation was sturdy and neat, and after they finished they took the time demonstrate that everything operated smoothly. They also did a nice job of cleaning up when they were done. Their price was more than fair, and they were right on with their time and cost estimates. I would absolutely call on them again for any garage door work in the future.

I called on Friday and said they could come out on Monday morning. The repair men arrived at 8AM and finished at about 8:50AM. I was very happy with the work the repair men did.

Their price was really reasonable. The work was excellent. The technician was great. The old garage door wasn't working properly. He came out one day and looked at it, and then came back the next day and replaced it. He disposed of the old garage door. He was a nice guy.

They were excellent. The service went really well. They came in when they told they would be in here and they did a very good job. They were very fair and they were very professional. It seems to be like a lot of money for the amount of work calling around to other companies it was lower than. The companies won’t be able to charge so with that respect it was good.

Dana came over and determined that our current garage door opener had died. It was over ten years old. He quickly replaced it with a new one and it is working great. It opens and closes much more smoothly than ever before. He was a little bit more expensive than some other companies I called ($25 more), but did the work flawlessly.

The work was fast and efficient, using two men it took less than two hours. Didn't try to sell me an expensive unit. I had some concerns since another vendor (Grey Goose) insisted I needed a more costly opener and charged me over $400 to replace the cables so I could close my garage door. I would call American Overhead Garage Door again.

I was actually house-sitting for a friend over the Christmas holidays whose garage floor had just been redone. I needed to move his car back into the garage; I pressed the remote and the garage door only opened halfway. After trying to troubleshoot with my limited knowledge of garage doors in general and my friend's in particular, I hit Angie's List, praying I could find a good company that could come out that day (which was the day before Christmas.) American Overhead was highly rated and serviced the area, so I called and Dana answered right away. He said he could come by that afternoon around 2-3pm. About an hour before, he called to let me know he would be by within the hour, and showed up on time as promised. He took a quick look and right away diagnosed worn out springs. He and his helper replaced them in about 10 minutes. He demonstrated the door was fixed (without asking and without handing over the bill first). He went over the bill in detail (not that I really cared, I was so happy the door worked.) I know pretty much nothing about garage doors, so I have no clue in regard to how good is his pricing, but it seemed fair enough to me, considering his punctuality and professionalism. Just note that he only takes checks in the field.

From the moment I spoke with them on the phone to the time they showed up and completed the job - great. Knew I was in a hurry and did a wonderful job.

He came out within four hours of my call and confirmed what my handman had thought that the old one could not be fixed. He replaced it on the spot, taking less than a hour, and replaced the door springs as well. He was extremely polite and professional, cleaning everything up before he left. I was very happy with the outcome.

The owner answered my call and told me he would come by that afternoon; then he called and said he could come early. He repaired the broken roller and had to reroute the cables that had come loose, so the job cost more than I anticipated, but I had to be able to close my garage door at night (just must us feel safer, plus there are bikes, etc, that could be stolen). So there service was prompt, quick and professional, albeit expensive ($175 for probably around 1/2 hr or so of work).

When he arrived, he immediately stated that the problem was with the electronic sensors, so he changed them. Then he tested the garage door and realized that the problem hadn't been fixed. Then he checked the wiring and the settings on the opening and closing motor, and adjusted them. That solved the problem. In retrospect, I suspect that it wasn't necessary to replace the electronic sensors and I wish I had asked him to re-install the old sensors, and not charge me ($100.00) for the new sensors.

I called American Overhead Garage Doors at noon today and described the problem--a broken spring on my garage door. I let them know I would be home after 3:00 pm. We made an appointment for that time. Around 2:30 the owner called me back to cancel and reschedule the appointment for tomorrow. He was working on an emergency. I agreed to reschedule. However, the owner called me back at 3:00 and said he could be at my house by 3:30. He arrived exactly on time and replaced the springs in about 5 minutes. Excellent, fast service!

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said by other satisfied customers, so I'll reiterate the glowing reviews: Dana is prompt, courteous, professional and a genuinely nice guy. As for his prices: I don't really have any basis for comparison, but they seem reasonable. I'll definitely call Dana back next time I have any trouble with the garage door.

I called when my garage door wouldn't close. He diagnosed the problem and told me how to fix it over the phone. He could've made a service call and charged me - instead he did it for free. He even offered to stay on the phone so I could make sure the door was working and that I didn't need any more help. They've earned a loyal customer.

I called American Overhead Garage Door to do this job after a previous contractor had installed springs improperly and even after numerous calls refused to fix the problem. Dana came out the next day installed them quickly and correctly.

Great company. They did everything as claimed. Very fine people to work with.

I did not use their service -- but for a GREAT reason -- rather than immediately trying to set an appointment, they took the time to help me figure out the problem, which was NOT with my garage door, but with the electrical system -- they had me check the power supply to the motor with other plug-in electrics

Dana was on time and finished quickly. He is very courteous and pleasant. I have placed his sticker in the garage so I'll be sure to call him next time.

After I pulled into my garage around 9pm on 2/22/10, I heard a loud noise from one side of the garage door while I was unloading the car. I attempted to used both the button inside the garage and the garage door remote to open the garage door and it would only open about two feet from the ground. After I tried unsuccessfully to push it open manually and fiddled with the string that was hanging from the motor in the ceiling, I concluded that my car was trapped in the garage and I would need professional help to get the door working again. I was pleasantly surprised when I went on Angie's List and found there was a highly rated garage door repair firm less than 3 miles from me that had high service ratings. Even though I was skeptical about reaching anyone this late at night I dialed the number and within three rings or less Dana answered. He listened to my lay person's description of what happened, very politely told me he was booked in the morning but he would try to find someone to come out and help me first thing in the morning. He took my phone number and said he would call me back. Within a few minutes, he called back with the name of a person who was going to arrive around 8:30am in the morning. Dana give me a number where he could be reached in the morning, and told me if there were any problems to call him. Around 7:30am the next morning, Dana called to confirm the appointment and assure me someone was scheduled to be at my house at 8:30am. He again apologized for not being able to show up himself and told me to call him if there were any problems. Promptly at 8:30, the gentleman Dana made arrangements with, arrived and diagnosed and fixed the problem within 15 minutes. He explained that the springs on both sides of the garage door were broken. The spring that had broken the previous night was the second spring to break and had been doing most of the heavy lifting for a long time after the first spring had broken. I would like to emphasize the professional and unselfish manner in which Dana handled this whole situation. I was under the impression Dana had arranged for one of his repairmen to come out. However, this was not the case. Dana knew that my car was "trapped" in the garage and I could not get to work until the door was fixed. Furthermore, based on my uneducated description of the situation he was enough of an expert to deduce that it was a fairly easy fix for a professional. Since he was already booked, he unselfishly punted the job to one of his competitors to enable me to get my garage door fixed and make it to work at a decent hour. Dana gets my vote whenever any of my family or friends have a garage door problem.
