American Overhead Garage Doors

This is a condo I own. They were good. They came out very promptly, they did god work and the price was reasonable. They were really good, really fast. They were easy to deal with the guy came out. I think he came out the same day that we called. He was really nice, had all the right equipment. They got the job done much quicker than I expected. Redid the remotes. We've used them in the past too. We would certainly call them anytime we need that kind of work.I don't remember the cost. I remember thinking the price was very reasonable.

The removal of old and installation of the new door went very smoothly. Dana came to give us the estimate; Eric and David did the work. We are very pleased with the result.

Excellent service. Knowledgeable and helpful in all respects.

Super happy customer. Dana was great to work with. He follows through and does what he says. He made the process easy for us. Even better was the quality of the crew he sent out to install it. They were very conscientious, communicated well and were thorough in cleaning up. My new door is a gem.

He has been great. He shows up for the job with his workers. He showed up and took care of the repairs with no problems. He was always on time, very reasonable in his prices and my client has as well been happy with his work. We have never had him to come back and fix something that he didn't do right. They have always showed up on time.

I wanted to talk to him because he had good reviews and I needed a new garage door opener. I have a 1930's duplex with a garage door opener that is not of the and quot;stop and reverseand quot; variety. My tenant had a scary incident with the existing opener last week, so I wanted to remedy the situation. Upon telling him this he said and quot;i think I talked to her!and quot; I then asked him, for ultimate safety, wouldn't it just be better to have a manually operated garage door? He said he wasn't a lawyer and couldn't tell me. I countered with and quot;but you are the garage door expert, I'm just asking...wouldn't it be safer to just have manually operated door? He then restated that he wasn't a lawyer, but he said he told (supposedly) my tenant – if something (injury/death) happened with that old garage door opener, I would have a lot to pay (I'm sorry I can't remember the exact words he used, but that was the idea behind what he said). I said he didn't do me any favors by saying that (and besides, I thought he wasn't a lawyer). I also said, that it wasn't necessarily so that I would and quot;have to payand quot; because the garage door opener legislation, (passed in 1992,) was not retro-actively mandated (unlike the strapping of water heaters, in Calif.) I then tried to ask again about manually operated doors being the safest, but he interrupted me and said and quot;ok, nice talkin to yaand quot; and hung up. At no time during this conversation did I raise my voice or get rude, because until he hung up on me, he still had a chance to be the guy I used for my job. ***UPDATE*** First off, I remind you the entire review above is for the initial phone contact I had with Dana of American Overhead Garage Doors. Dana called me this morning, regarding my poor review (Overall-F, Professionalism-F). After a heated discussion, he apologized for hanging up on me (he said he was getting another call from a client and got momentarily overwhelmed), apologized for not calling be back and for calling me this morning. He also said he had learned a lesson regarding customer service. In light of that, I upped my Overall rating to and quot;Cand quot; and Professionalism to and quot;Dand quot; Clearly, Dana cares about his work and reviews he gets, and based on the reviews probably knows his stuff. He's just a little rough around the edges when it comes to customer service, but I think this was a learning experience for him. I might give him a call in the future. I'm undecided in that regard.

First let me say when I write a bad review, I take it very seriously and give a lot of thought to it. Before making a selection, I always read the provider's reviews on Angie's List. Based on the information and ratings, I called American Overhead Garage Doors and spoke to Dana. I explained I had a LiftMaster 2000SD screw drive opener and it made a grinding noise when lifting the door. He said the gears inside the unit were worn and it would cost $175 for new gears and $75 labor. When I called back to set up an appointment time, I told him I had the original owner’s manual, and 1) there were two gears which were belt driven and 2) the output attached to the screw drive in the T-rail by a black sprocket coupler. I told Dana the coupler had cracks in it and to make sure he had a replacement when he came on the service call. I also gave him the sprocket part number. When he arrived, I asked him if he wanted so see the manual showing the parts list and the cracked sprocket which was still in the unit. He said no since he knows all about the openers. I opened the garage door so he could hear the noise and he said I need a replacement trolley. After he opened and closed the door several times, he said I need a new opener at $425 (chain driven). He could not fix the unit. Being a retired mechanical engineer with a master’s degree, and having a good knowledge of gears and motors, I was confident the grinding noise was caused by the cracked socket coupler. After he left, I opened and closed the door several times while watching the coupler from a ladder. Sure enough, the coupler split apart. What bothered me was his arrogant attitude; he discarded everything I offered to help him diagnose the problem. He didn’t want to see the exploded view in the manual or the cracks in the coupler. He just wanted to sell me a new unit for $425. Although the opener is an older unit, the replacement sprocket coupler is $4.42 from LiftMaster and is also available from multiple sources including Amazon and Sears. If he had said I needed a new coupler and he would have to order the part and charge me for the part and a service call, I would have been more than happy to do it. It would have been a more professional suggestion on Dana’s part.

Fantastic. This was an emergency situation as we couldn't close the door. They came right away to help.

Great. Easy to contact. Able to come the next day. Arrived promptly. Gave us a fair price. Was polite. Worked efficiently. Fixed the problem,

Dana came at the agreed time, inspected the old door and gave me an estimate for repairing or for a new door. I opted for the repair and Dana said he had a man who could do that. soon Eduardo arrived and recommended a new door. He was from Edward's Overhead Garage Doors. He installed the new door and later sent a man after I called about the light not working. In all, everything turned out fine, but I had some unease about using a firm that is not on the List.

Garage door opener has had issues since I moved here 2 years ago. Door would often start to open or close then stop and reverse. Was also very loud. Recently I couldnt get it to close at all and then noticed smoke coming out of the unit. Thought it was finished as its a pretty old unit. Dana was able to come over within about an hour after my first call, diagnosed the problem, changed one part, made a few adjustments and now the door opens and closes the first time I press the button and is more quiet than ever. He clearly knows his stuff. My experience couldn't be beat - quick service, efficient and seemed reasonably priced. And, offered to provide discounted services if the fix doesn't last.

Dana was very prompt in returing my inital inquiry call. He gave me a rough estimate on the phone and then came by for an appointment to show me the styles and a more specific quote. I agreed to the job and provided a $100.00 deposit while the garge door was ordered. Dana followed up several times (once to reschedule due to a delay in the delivery of the door due to no fault of his) to ensure I was comfortable with dates and times. Two gentleman (one who came with Dana on the initial consultation) came on 10/31 to remove my old door and install the new one. The installation went well - took about 5 or so hours and the work looked great. Dana did call to follow up that day to ensure the work was completed to my satisfaction. I did get a double garage door with windows along the top, seal around the edges and an automatic opener. I am not sure if I got the and quot;bestand quot; price overall but I am willing to pay a little more for proper service and attention. I called Mesa Doors once and the individual that answered the phone was a bit rude and then put me on hold and finally cut me off without ever coming back - this helped my decision not to deal with a big corporation. Plus I saw another reviewer when I was researching state that Mesa tacks on fees for every little item, driving the price up to a level similar to the flat fee that I paid for the entire job, inlcuding hauling and disposing of my old door. I was happy with the work and would use the company again if the need arose.

I had the hinges, springs, and door opening apparatis replace by a another company. The work was extremely shoddy and eventually broke. The arm from the chain drive to the door bent. I found Dana on Angie's list. He picked up my call on the third ring. He was on the road in his truck and had me call him back and leave my contact info. He called me back within 15 minutes. After learning of the items to be repaired, he asked if I needed emergency/weekend repair or could I wait until Monday. Most people would have jumped at the chance to charge the higher price. I considered his discernment very courteous. We made an appointment for Mon. at noon. He said he'd call if he could make it earlier and he did, 8:30. I had to go to work and left him with a friend. I asked if he needed payment and he did not. Dana immediately saw the issue. Repaired it quickly and neatly. The door opens more smoothly than it ever did and the best part, it is QUIET! I will be calling him to replace the strut as recommended. I'm thrilled to have found a courteous garage door professional. He has a high rating on Angie's List and completely deserves it!

I called Dana for an estimate on work to replace two garage doors for my three car garage. He was very friendly and came out quckly. He was on time and very professional. I knew what I wanted and he was able to supply me with exactly what I was looking for at a fair price.We arranged for an install date and even though I had to change the date at the last minute (due to other construction in the house) he was fine with it and rescheduled right away.His team arrived on time and they worked for 2 days until the job was done. They were very professional and the doors were beautiful. The installer even set up the remotes and the remote button in my car.This is a very nice, reliable company, and I would recommend them. Certainly, I would use them again if I ever have a need for garage doors.

It took them all of twenty minutes. They even played with my dog, the culprit in damaging the garage door opener in the first place. I was very pleased and would call them again for any garage door repairs.

Smooth transaction. Dana arrive within a couple hours of the call, and completed the repair in about an hour.

Dana was great! I had an early start to my day because someone had broken into my garage and they left my garage door all tweaked out of alignment. My first guess was that both hinges needed to be replaced and I found Dana here on Angie's list. I gave him a call and he was able to be on his way to Long Beach asap. When Dana took a look at the damage and lucky for me, he thought that the door could just be rehung and have new springs installed to fix my problem. The springs were pretty old, so it made sense. So about an hour later, with a new set of springs and door locks; along with his and David's expertise, I would say that my door works better than before. The cost of the whole thing was under his estimate and so, I am going through my day a lot happier than how it started out. Don't hesitate to call him. I have no hesitations to recommend him to anyone.

Worked on Memorial Day with no additional charges. Great service, professional, on time, fixed the problem and diagnosed other potential problems (replaced 10yr old springs and check out hardware). Door works great, stops now when it is supposed to, opens when remotes active, programed my car remotes, and the garage opens much quieter than before.

One of our garage door springs broke late Thursday night. My husband was out of town and it sounded like a gunshot! I was scared to death, until I figured out what had happened. The next morning, I had kinda forgot about it in the rush to get my kids ready and out of the house. Of course, my car was "trapped" in the garage and we weren't going anywhere. Started looking for garage door companies on Angie's List. American was my first and only call. Dana answered the call himself and quickly re-arranged his schedule that morning to rescue my car from it's trap. He and one other gentleman arrived quickly, did the work quickly, and we were all on our way before I knew it! I can't thank Dana enough!

WOW... they arrived quickly, the job was completed quickly, professionally, and my mom's car was no longer trapped in the garage!!! Thank you again American Overhead!

My garage door wasn't working, and I though the motor to the overhead opener had failed. I called Dana at about 9:30 and he came to my house within a couple of hours. Before he came he told me what to expect....a service call today to make an assessment, and he'd come back tomorrow (a weekend!) to do an install if, in fact, a new open was needed. But before he arrived, he'd already called me back to let me know that he would probably be able to do any necessary full install because he could route one of his trucks over later in the afternoon. Once he arrived, he did a full assessment, showing me that we had a much simpler problem...faulty door sensors and a heavy door that needed rebalancing. Before he did any of the work, he quoted me pricies item-by-item. I also asked for a couple of extra clickers, which he programmed (and reprogrammed all my car buttons, other clickers and outside external key pad). He also replaced the wall-mounted open/close/lock button at my request when he discoverd the lock feature was not working properly. Everything was done quickly, painlessly and thoroughly. He also took the time to let me know what to expect from my existing system: the door would work well for a long time to come and the existing opener should too. And, if he has mis-diagnosed it and it goes out, he'll come back and adjust out the expense of the sensors and service fee to do a new motor install. Overall, he was professional, courteous and good about explaining things before acting.

Dana responded to my telephone call and gave me an estimate when he could arrive. In a couple of hours, he called to say he was close by, then he and his co-worker got the door open, replaced several parts, and payment was made. From start to finish, the overall experience was good.

I must have caught Dana on a really bad day. We had spoken several times and set up an appointment to check on a very old manually-operated metal garage door which had been badly installed on an uneven frame. He and his assistant arrived on the agreed-upon time, inspected the problem, and said they'd have to reframe the opening (which I expected) and then install the manual aluminum door I had requested. He told me they'd frame the opening one day, leave the old metal door just leaning against the garage, and return a day or two later to install the new one. However, the garage is used to store some very expensive inventory and when I told him the work would have to be done in one day, that I couldn't leave the garage open overnight, he just abruptly turned around, told me he couldn't help me --no other words-- and walked away without even attempting to accommodate my request. I was stunned and disappointed. I will certainly never call on them again. A couple of days after submitting this report, a company representative called me to apologize for what had happened. I accepted their apology, explaining that I truly believed Dana was having a difficult day bec. it is obvious from their high rating on Angie's List that his company's performance was held in high regard by many clients.

I've had a broken garage door for a couple of years now (didn't close properly and with a three inch gap at the bottom so all the leaves and dirt could blow right in) and never wanted to deal with finding a company to fix it. I don't know what I was waiting for! Dana was terrific and fixed my door so it looks and works like new and the price seemed quite reasonable. He came the same day I called and gave me a quote, clearly trying to make it as cost efficient as possible. The next day he and David showed up and did the work. He was pleasant and the job was done perfectly. My only regret is that I didn't call him years ago so I might have had a functional garage door all this time!
