When I called to setup the move, Tim was very helpful in deciding how many men to hire (we went with just two, since it was only the big stuff we planned on moving, but Tim said we could add another mover if we didn't get our other stuff moved first). The movers arrived right at 7:59 and immediately got to work. We had to disassemble a couple of items that wouldn't fit out of a door, but they were very quick, efficient, and friendly. At the new house, they spent about 15 minutes unsuccessfully trying to maneuver their truck up our very steep driveway, but eventually gave up -- that meant that they had to carry everything up the entire slope, but we didn't hear any grumbling about it and they quickly moved us in. Without us asking, they reduced the time on our bill by 10 minutes because of the parking problems. We would definitely hire A Better Way to Move again!

This is the best moving company I've ever encountered. From the moment Tim arrived to give us an estimate, we felt confident in this company. It turned out that we were absolutely right to trust them with our move. The buyer of our condo changed the close of escrow three times, which meant that we had to change our moving date since we couldn't move until escrow closed. That meant calling them two days before one scheduled move and postponing it. When we finally had a firm move date, they had to rearrange another move in order to accommodate us. They were calm, patient and understanding throughout the whole process and didn't add to our stress level, which was pretty high at the time. They were thoroughly professional and we were grateful we hired them on moving day. The lively crew arrived on time, worked hard and was very careful. The fact that they buy back boxes is a real plus. They are the best way to move.

These guys did a fantastic job. If you prepare for your move ahead a time, it goes a lot faster. They showed up right on time and got to work right away. A truck and three man crew for $109 per hour. Well worth it if you have a lot of heavy stuff. Gave them a tip because they did such a good job.

Tim Gordon, who did the survey of what we had and the logistics of the apartment building we were in was on time, professional, and dependable. He gave us an estimate that was definitely fair given what we had to move. It wasn't cheap, but it was reasonable if the job was done well. And the job was certainly done well! The movers were on time, courteous, professional, and fast. They moved everything without damage or error. I bought the crew lunch, as much for our benefit as theirs, since it saved them time. The final amount was slightly less than the original estimate, a pleasant surprise, which I understand is unusual in the moving industry. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone who needs moving services.
Description of Work: We moved from one apartment to another 200 yards away. We found it helpful to plan in advance in detail where everything would go in the new location, number the areas where items would go, and mark items with the number of their new location.

The estimate (approx. $1800) was in line with what I was thinking it would be for a pack & move. As it was, I did most of the packing so the guys who came to pack were much faster than the estimate had for them. Then the next day moving crew was just awesome. Everyone was very fast and very professional and took great care with my belongings & furniture. As it was, the final total came in around $1300- I was very happy to save $500. As moving is very stressful for me, this experience better than I ever could've expected. I highly recommend them!

I chose A Better Way over another, very highly rated company on Angie's list because the other made me feel somewhat pressured about having them pack my stuff, which I didn't want to do. Tim did nothing of the kind. I also liked his solution, which was to have 1 truck & 4 guys make 2 trips. The competing co. proposed 2 trucks with 2 guys apiece, which didn't seem to make sense given the paltry distance. Tim also made a point of discussing insurance in advance, which had been a sore spot in my previous move because the co. didn't bring it up until the crew arrived, & I felt slammed with hidden fees. Tim also offers a cash discount, & had I taken it, his price would have been slightly less than the competitor -- but I chose to go with the credit-card option for financial reasons instead. On moving day, the crew head, Paco, introduced himself & all the crew, & I somehow felt as if we were partners in this rather than that they were taking over & I was helplessly standing by. I finally understood where the company gets its name about half an hour into the move. I'm accustomed to movers rushing, shouting, swearing & generally being the workday equivalent of drunk & disorderly. Paco's team was quiet, efficient but unhurried, unfailingly polite & careful to consult me any time something was the least bit amiss, like showing me a tiny chip in a glass tabletop before loading it. They also helped me finish packing up my desk, which I was scrambling to do since I work at home & had commitments up to the last moment. When we arrived at the new house, they were careful to all walk through 1st & make sure they understood which room was which. My Ikea-like desk collapsed en route inside, & Paco managed to shrink-wrap it like a giant submarine sandwich to hold it together. I was also impressed that he carefully cleaned out his truck before going back for the 2nd load, & did so even more thoroughly the next time. The crew started at 8 a.m. & was done by 2 p.m. -- hours earlier than my previous movers. I've never tipped movers before, & have no idea what's appropriate, but gave each of the crew $40 & Paco $60 for a job so well done. (Contrast that with the last move, when I refused to even pay for one guy's time because his attitude & work were beyond awful. His 1st question in the a.m. had been, "Where's a good place for lunch?") This time around was a better experience than a lot of dates I've had, & not just because the dates were losers. Tim's team is that good!
Description of Work: A Better Way to Move handled my latest move, which was from one single-story house to another. The distance was only a mile, but any move is stressful -- especially if you're me & have 200 boxes, a lot of them filled with my grandmothers' irreplaceable glass & china. *It could not have been a better experience.* Tim Gordon, A Better Way's owner, is a gracious Brit who seems much more like a Shakespearean actor than a mover. He was very thorough with his assessment, which included looking at items indoors & outdoors, & I believe emailed me his bid the next day.The movers were actually half an hour early, didn't hit me with any last-minute charges, were calm & professional beyond belief, & came in at 2 hours & several hundred dollars less than the original bid. I think this company should change its name to A Better Way to Live.

This was such a painless, smooth, superb experience-- unlike any other other moving experience I have had to date. My crew: Paco, Luis, and Fernando were UNBELIEVABLE. They walked in the door (neatly and carefully!), knew exaclty what they were doing, took control of the entire move, and moved quickly and SOOO carefully with my precious belongings, making sure everything was done perfectly but that no time was wasted (move was on the clock). They took down chandelieres, crated huge glass tables, and did everything with ease. And they were SO nice as well as completely professional. This company is great and this CREW is the one to ask for! Just a note: the company also moved my boyfriend and he was thrilled too.

I found this company on Angies List. From the first phone call to the end of the move professional with everything happening as described. From experience I chose a 3 person crew. They arrived right on time - easy paperwork to get the job going. A few pieces needed additional padding - or packaging (paintings). Part of the key to an easy move is to be well organized - rather then boxes, knowing that many of our items would go into storage while we did some work on the new home - we used clear plastic bins from Costco (about $15.00 for 3) - easy to pack - easy to know what's inside - stack well. The moving company took a little over 2 hours to load the truck - at one time being very creative in getting a table out of the house. They took a break (no charge) between Beverly Hills and Santa Monica. In Santa Monica - they dropped of to 2 houses on the same street then went to a Public Storage - also where there were 2 units - both ground floor drive up. I would use them again (and plan to in a few weeks for a smaller move)

My husband was out of town the weekend of the move and I had to move my family's belongings on my own. I was concerned because you hear so many horror stories about movers and I had had a bad experience previously. So I really needed to use a good honest moving company that was affordable. These guys were great. Great deal on the price, I paid approx $500 (can't remember how much, misplaced the rec't) but I know that for all the work they did, it was very cheap. I filled the whole moving truck with our stuff, unbelievable. Anyway the guys (Javier and I can't remember the other guy's name) were brilliant. So polite and proffessional. Nothing was damaged and they took great care to not scratch my new hardwood floors in my new home. They worked so hard, I felt really bad that I did not order a 3 man crew. I didn't realise I had so much stuff to move. Anyway moving my house on my own that day was a big concern for me and these guys were good and honest. Tim in the office was very nice, I would definately use them again.

The company already had a good rating on the list, so I went ahead and gave them a call. The geltleman who answered the phone was professional and clearly described the prices and what services I would likely require. They sent me a contract and a booklet a few weeks before the actual move date confirming everything. As the move date approached, the contractors working on our new house were running behind (as always) and we needed a few more days to prepare. I called "A Better Way" and they rescheduled for the next week "No Problems". We originally ordered 3 men but increased it to 4 men, also with no problems. The packing team arrived bright and early 8 am on the day prior to the move. They were FANTASTIC. All 4 of them! They were all built like Brick Sh-t Houses and moved like Gazelles. Unbelievable. We are both busy professionals and had barely done anything to prepare for the move before they arrived. The grace and ease with which they wrapped, packed, stacked and labeled every last item in our entire house was incredible. The whole place was in boxes and ready to go by 2 pm that day. Day 2 was just as smooth. 3 of the same 4 guys came and did the actual moving. This was great because they already knew what was where etc. They arrived on time, loaded up the trucks and rolled. These guys are animals...untiring workhorses. They did the heaviest of heavy labor from 8 am to 5 pm, nonstop except maybe 30 minutes for lunch, no sweat. All we had to do at the new house was tell them where we wanted everything. They re-arranged the furniture a few times for us before we settled on the arrangements. In the end, everything was in its new place and nothing was broken or lost. So nice, so courteous. I really cannot compliment them enough. The price was competetive but no "great deal", however given the level of service, it was worth every penny ten times over. It is now 2 weeks later and we have almost finished unpacking all the boxes. They have a return policy where they will refund 75% of the price of the boxes, so we will probably get a few hundred bucks back when we are all said and done. Bravo! It really is "A Better Way to Move"!!

Paco, Luis, and Fernando are AMAZING! I picked this company because a review on Angie's List said you could just relax once they got there, and it was entirely true. After weeks of packing, all I had to do was stand around and occasionally tell them what to do. Two weeks before the move, they sent Tim to our apartment to do a thorough estimate, which turned out to be higher than the final cost (I had moved about thirty boxes to the house in the interim). He had estimated 1217.00 and it ended up being 1017 despite the rain. The day of the move the guys arrived on time and immediately got to work. They moved everything to the truck quickly despite a slow elevator and a driving rain. They wrapped everything that might be damaged, provided wardrobes for my clothes. After a short lunch break (off the clock) they moved everything into the house (again, in a driving rain), including a refrigerator. We had just had the floors of the new house done, and the guys were very accommodating of the fact that I had to put felt on the bottom of all the furniture. This meant they had to lug everything up the steps and then wait for me to put the felt on, and then move it into the house. If I wasn't around they called me about a piece they thought might need felt. A couple of pieces were large and required an amazing amount of maneuvering. The guys worked together seamlessly and gracefully being respectful of both the furniture and the the house. They were good-natured and capable. I was really able to relax and enjoy watching my house come together.
Description of Work: Moved us from a two bedroom apartment (one bedroom was used as an office) on the fourth floor of an elevator building to a three bedroom single level house built into a hill - so there is a significant stairway into the front entrance. Our couch didn't fit into the elevator, so they had to carry it down three flights (it's very heavy). They started at 8:25 on one of the rainiest days in recent memory (2/13/2009) and finished at 5:55)

I have moves four times in the last three years and this was one of the smoothest moves that I have had. The last move that I had was a disaster, with lost boxes, broken items and additional surprise charges, and so I was quite stressed before this move-worried that I would get a repeat experience. However, when I first called A Better Way to Move, Tim was very straightforward and forthcoming with what would be charged and what wouldn't be charged, and helped me to figure out the most efficient, but also most economical way to make the move. They arrived on time and worked very efficiently but also took great care with our stuff, stacking the boxed carefully and paying attention to labeling. They wrapped all furniture up in blankets. I m hoping I won t need to move again for a long time, but if I do, I would certainly call them again.

I can't say enough good things about this company! The guys arrived 15 minutes early (7:45 instead of 8:00AM) and worked very quickly. They didn't waste any time, absolutely nothing was broken during the move, and both guys had happy, positive attitudes the whole time. The whole move was timed to avoid traffic on the freeways and was done in about 4 hours (we finished at 11:45 AM). Keep in mind I moved small/light stuff myself otherwise it might have taken another hour or two. I must say, this is the first time I've used movers and I will *absolutely* call A Better Way to Move when I need to move again. What would have been a miserable, backbreaking day of labor for me (and my brother and friends) was easily resolved in 4 hours for less than $400! Can't be beat!
Description of Work: The guys at A Better Way to Move moved my one-bedroom apartment in Santa Monica to my one bedroom apartment in Pasadena. My Santa Monica apartment was on the second floor with no elevator. My new apartment in Pasadena is on the FOURTH floor and there is NO elevator(!) Fortunately, I don't own a lot of stuff. The guys made it all look easy! Tim (the owner) was very courteous and straightforward. He came by my apartment about a week before the move and quoted me a price of $650. He actually suggested that his guys can (obviously) move everything, but if I really wanted to save some money I could move some of the smaller, lighter boxed myself (which I did). This means his guys only had to move the really heavy stuff (queen size bed, sofa, dresser, tables, etc.) and I saved myself a bit of cash. It worked out great for everybody.

These guys are GREAT!!! While they were not able to show up at the expected time, it wasn't their fault, as their earlier move went very long. When they DID show up, they were pleasant, fun, happy in their work, and energetic beyond belief. In addition, I think it's been many many years since I have experienced a moving team who worked "in sync" as well as Paco and Paul. It was like they were ants, moving items between themselves and in and out of the truck with nary a hiccup. I would ABSOLUTELY hire them again, and will, for another impending move.
Description of Work: Scheduled a complete removal of items from one storage unit (cleaning it out, basically), an intermediate stop to load up more, and drop off boxes, and moving everything to a new storage unit a mile or two away.

These guys showed op on time, introduced them selves and got to work. This was a very long day. Nearly 12 hours of backbreaking moving. Stairs all over the place and heavy objects. I had a team of 4 people that worked their butt's off and I will use them again if I need to move.
Description of Work: We moved two apartments into one condo. This included a 300 pound antique armoire that had to be hoisted up the side of the building and a 40 inch Mitsubishi tube TV.
