Neil came; surveyed each task; and got right to work. No time was wasted. Even when to Orchard Supply & Hardware and got correct bolts for desk chair, stripping for windows, and seal for toilet. Knocked out all tasks thoroughly and without dawdling. Changed me much less than he had estimated. I paid him more than he invoiced me because his professionalism and expertise were well worth it. Best handyman EVER! Will always try to use him whenever I need household tasks done in an expert fashion.
Description of Work: This is the list of tasks I gave him when he arrived: 1. Fix office desk chair (3 of 4 bolts came out) Chair had completely come apart. 2. Hang a picture in guest room 3. Remove old and install new ceiling fan light box. 4. Fix sliding tray at bottom of kitchen cabinet that no longer moves 5. Keep windows from flying open when there are heavy winds. (Latches blow open.) 6. Fix toilet handle in guest bathroom. It now takes superman strength to flush. 7. Fix dining room chair, if possible. Back legs are wobbly.

Having 3 kids I have a real soft-spot for Educators, and this client is one. Nothing better than someone who's dedicated their life to teaching our children...especially Math (this client's field). I even gave her an extra discount, for being a teacher, and didn't notice she'd overpayed (tipped?) me until I got to the bank with her check. What a sweetheart!!!

Neil did a great job for us. The job required a bit of creativity and a lot of attention to detail. We are very pleased with Neil's work and are happy to have had him at our house. Another satisfied customer!

I was excited to meet this client. I'm a Boxing fan and he's the BEST boxing announcer in the biz!! What a treat!! I would've done a great job, anyway, but the thrill of meeting an icon pushed me to take a little more care and effort, and I'm super pleased they were happy!!!

Overall we had a positive experience!
Description of Work: Neil was great! He responded quickly and was available for an appointment that was convenient for us. He came prepared and was able to hang all of our framed art and a large mirror. He also gave us tips on how to earthquake-proof our home (we just moved to LA from out of state). I would definitely use Neil again and recommend him to anyone looking for a handy man.

I really like what I do. And when presented with challenging jobs and allowed to do them properly, I love what I do. She had me resurface her son's skateboard ramp, rebuild a front door, repair screens, rebuild a bunch of drawers, fix a dresser and TV etagere...all on a beautiful property in the hills above Malibu. My job doesn't get much better...

Neil is amazing. I think he can fix anything. Even if he does not succeed the first time, he keeps at it, coming up with a different strategy, until he succeeds. He is pleasant and works quickly. This guy doesn't waste time. And when he is buying supplies he keeps the customer's budget in mind. In the middle of the job he needed to take some time off because of a dental problem. Then he gave me a discount for being patient about that. Where can you find people like that these days?
Description of Work: Neil did loads of work for me. The sliding door to my kitchen pantry had been broken for years. I didn't want it fixed, I wanted a different door altogether. The dimensions of the opening are unusual and a number of other handymen couldn't solve the problem. Neil used a pair of window shutters to construct swinging doors. I love how they look. He also did the following (partial list): fixed a severely water/termite damaged sliding door and screen, removed a doggy door and sanded and stained it, fixed electrical outlets, installed new garbage disposal, replaced 2 shower heads, fixed cracks in grout, mounted 2 new smoke detectors, replaced a broken towel rack -- this was tricky because it's an original bathroom (built 1931) but Neil shopped around and figured out a way to do it without breaking my wallet. The results are excellent.

Neil is great! We have had him out a couple of times. This time he fixed a wall that we had to have cut into. He bought all the supplies and left us detailed instructions on the best way to sand/paint. He also hung some blinds that were way too complicated for us, and fixed a broken curtain rod. The last time he came out when he wasn't able to fix a plumbing related problem he was kind enough to give us a reference for someone who could do it for us at a reasonable price. We will definitely use him in the future!!B

It was a good experience and I will definitely hire Neal this week. (I'm not much of a story teller)
Description of Work: Drapery rods were installed, a ceiling fan was removed and a new one installed which had to be assembled, a wall plug was repaired and hooks for hanging terrace plants were installed. The work was done quickly and professionally. Putting the pieces of the fan together was tedious but he enjoyed the task. (I would have given up!) There was no standing around and talking. The work was so excellent that I have asked that 310 Handyman come back to do some more jobs for me.

Neil responds quickly and gets the job done done-very important as one recent job involved an unanticipated need for a shower grab bar for a post-op family member. He is very reasonable with charges. We have called him on 3 separate occasions and will no doubt do so again. He did an accumulation of small jobs for us the first time and didn't seem to mind doing a small job-the grab bar.

He performed the job efficiently, and showed me why the handle mechanism should not be installed; it had flimsy parts that were not working properly. The screen door was installed well and working well too!

Neil did an excellent job for us. He was creative and did a great job. We will be using him again and again as situations come up.

My deck was in terrible shape and doing major repair did not make sense. I either had to replace the deck, or fix what I could. Neil did a great job in finding the structural areas where it needed replacement, and fixed the other areas to the point where I feel the deck will last at least another 5 years. Very professional, punctual, and fair prices. I have found my handyman.

I've said it before and (I'm sure) will again...I love jobs where some creativity comes in. Most other repairmen would've just pushed to replace the entire deck at a considerably higher cost. First thing I asked was "how long do you think you'll stay in this house?", and when he answered 5 years, I suggested patching and repairing rather than destroying and rebuilding. And I'd bet the repairs will last more than 5 years. PLUS, they treated me as an equal, not a [lowly] workman. Couldn't have been a better experience for me, and I'll look forward to doing more work for them!!

They charge by the hour, and its not that he was taking his time, it just seemed like he wasn't very skilled. It seemed like I probably could have done a better job myself. He actually damaged one my cabinets, which he did fix it, but he did damage it. I felt he seemed like he was really stressed out when he was doing the job, and that the work was very amateurish.

Well, you sure can't please everyone, and this was someone who wouldn't have been pleased had God done the work. I try very hard NOT to diss clients, but in over 500+ clients in the last few years this man was the ONLY ONE I refused future work from, AND HE DID ASK ME BACK, which would seem to negate his comments. This work was done last December (2009), so he must've really been fuming all this time to post this now! I was, in fact, stressed BECAUSE HE STOOD, LITERALLY, OVER MY SHOULDER THE ENTIRE TIME, making it nearly impossible to do the work properly, asking me questions and telling me how to do the work. And if he thinks he could've done a "better job himself", I'm here to tell you NOT ONE THING he suggested would have worked. This house was beyond a mess; it was either bought out of foreclosure or hadn't been occupied in years and was in horrific shape. He wanted to have a microwave and oven put into a broom-closet-like space. I did not damage the space, it DISINTEGRATED as I worked on it. And, I repaired it so it looked better than before. And under his kitchen sink, I performed a minor miracle by creatively repairing water lines that were completely erroneously installed, and I did it without the expense of having a plumber in to re-plumb the entire system. I ask you to read ALL my other feedback before letting this influence your decision to hire me. I've received only one other grade below "A", (a "B"), in all my time on Angie's, and won the Angie's List 2009 Super Service Award in December 2009, the same month I did this job!!! Like I said, I hate criticizing clients, but had to defend my rep on this one...

Our gas grill was no longer doing a bbq well. We called Neil and he came out and took a look at it. Because of it's age it was no longer possible to get burners to match the existing. He did an internet search over the entire nation and located a company in the San Fernando Valley that had burners which could be made to work. Neil installed the burners as well as all of the other metal framework. It took a good amount of creativity on his part to even possibly repair this unit as it was so old and no parts for it were made anywhere. Neil was prompt, creative, honest and his workmanship was A+. His prices were very, very reasonable, in fact, quite cheap for the work that was done. When he was finished we were the proud owners of a newly refurbished gas grill that now works better than our old unit ever did. We are big time users of gas grills and we would recommend Neil to anyone. No matter what the job is, if Neil says he can do it we believe he could in a timely, inexpensive and creative way
Description of Work: We had a built in gas grill which was installed in the 1960's. Everything was old and needed replacement. Neil replaced all of the parts of the grill except the grill bars and he helped us find those.

Anyone who knows me knows I love a challenge, and this was one!! Anytime I can be constructive AND creative, I'm in heaven, so I approached this job with zeal. Parts of the old elements, the burners and the frame, were rusted out in places, but removing them would've required thousands of dollars in brick work. I cut out the bad parts of the frame and attached new metal, and found burners that could be adapted. These super-nice folks are now cookin'!!!!!

Sometimes a client is SO nice I HATE charging more than what I quoted. So I didn't. Though it should've take 3 hours MAX, this [f^*#ing] desk took 5 HOURS to assemble because steps were missing from instructions and parts NOT labelled!!! But the client's daughter was SO NICE I stuck to just about the original 3 hour estimate. (Shhhhh...don't tell anyone). Folks, you'd be surprised how badly most people treat workmen. But not this client - she offered water, snacks, and was courteous, nice and very grateful. And so she was treated well in kind. I'd work for her again in a NY minute!!

This work was (obviously) quite a while ago and it took a few minutes to even remember the client. I'm really confused as to why she would choose to attempt to tarnish my reputation now. There were incredible time restrictions on this job, as well as barely defined, constantly changing work. She was unavailable after making appointments, and access was restrictive, BUT IN SPITE OF THIS, AS SHE SAID, I DID A GOOD JOB. I quoted a price upfront, and stuck to it, so the $$ criticism is unfounded. And my daughter's a master painter, by the way, and has done it for a few years. Again, I'm at a loss as to why someone would try to ruin a reputation, at Christmastime, with unfounded criticism.

Neil arrived right on time. He carefully considered what needed to be done, and found a superb way of doing it. He didn't stop with just doing the repair. He applied wd-40 to the others hinges as well. He was a pleasure to have around-- intelligent, thoughtful, very professional. I think that his excellent work easily justifies his fee. I would use him again in a heartbeat and will recommend him to anyone in need of a top-notch repair person.
Description of Work: The antique hinges on my breakfront in the living room had broken. Neil found an ingenious way of reattaching the hinges such that the new ones, which were the best match for the broken ones, could not be seen. He then did some small jobs-- put up a smoke alarm, hung up a clock and a picture, etc..

Having recently discovered Angie's List and having lost our handyman to Hawaii a few years ago, I decided to search for a handyman to deal with the many projects I listed above. Within my geographical area, Neil was by far the highest-rated and had the most good referrals and for good reason! I Emailed him and he responded right away. After a couple of Emails and phone calls outlining my litany of tasks, he agreed to come within the week on a Friday and Saturday. I was partially hoping he could do this while my wife was away for the weekend so I could surprise her and spare her the intrusion of a couple full days of work in and out of the house. Neil is talented, creative, punctual, dedicated and considerate. I couldn't have been happier. He worked hard to finish almost all of the tasks I had listed. He stayed late on Saturday so he could cross almost every item off my list. He did a great job on everything. It is SO nice to have things working again that we had let go for so long. I've found a few other things that need doing so I'm going to contact him again as soon as I finish this long-overdue rave review. I cannot recommend Neil highly enough. Plus, it was fun to chat and find out we had some mutual acquaintances!
Description of Work: I had several problems at home that needed repairs including a small fountain that needed waterproofing and a new pump; multiple electrical issues including repairing and installing new dimmers, lighting fixtures; cabinet door hardware that needed adjusting; re-grouting of some outdoor tile; painting of part of my outdoor BBQ structure; waterproofing a shower enclosure; lubrication of some electrical motors on a gate; low-voltage lighting repairs; maintenance on a squeaky exhaust fan.

Every once in a while a tradesman gets lucky and stumbles on "the perfect client". This client is one. Incredibly nice, fair, and just a terrific human being, as is his wife. More than just knowing what they wanted and how to ask for it, they were genuinely appreciative of my work on what I considered simple tasks. Tradesman are usually treated as non-people, even by those with little "right" to do that (not that anyone ever really has a "right" to treat others badly); this client, who has very obviously achieved much in his own life, was the exact opposite. I would work for them again in a NY Minute, and hope I get the chance.
