The crew took great care to refurbish, tighten and align each window over a 4-day time period. They even built a matching window to take the place of a piece of glass where I am guessign a beautiful wood casement originally existed. They carefully examine each window and then refurbish it to "better than new" condition. they completely seal and weatherstrip, plis apply gorgeous copper drip moldings. The results are close to miraculolus. When my wife and I purchased the home just over 4 years ago, one of my biggest fears was knowing that one day I would have to deal with the old broken down windows. Sure, some were OK, but most had severe alignment and draft problems. Previous owners had cut, drilled and messed up some of them by hanging curtains and running cable wires (yes, you read that correctly) through the window frames. Now, each window not only is aligned and operates flawlessly, but each one seals and is pretty much draft-proof. And the noise levels in the house have significantly subsided. This company employs real artisans. They take their time but are still highly efficient. Sure, it was a bit pricey, but when you look at the cost of high-quality window replacement, it was a steal. One note is that these guys do NOT take care of aesthetic issues. That is someone else's responsibility. I hired a separate crew to strip, epoxy, glaxe, prime and pain each window to put it in brand new condition (from the outside, at least). But on the interior, you need to know that some of their techniques will cause some paint chipping and this will require you to do some sanding and re-painting or staining. Highly recommended. I doubt I will ever need them again, but if I did, I would not hesitate to call!
Description of Work: The crew at WR&R completely restored 30 casement windows, 3 double-hungs and two exterior doors at my 1924 Hollywood Hills home. None of the windows had any weatherstripping and several were mechanically broken. Also, due to settling issues over 90 years, some of the windows were severely out of square.

Their price came in less than for vinyl windows but was for repairs only and did not include painting. Still it would have been an easy decision had I not gotten a good offer for my house without having to do any work. The look and feel of the original windows are superior to any vinyl replacements I've seen. It's a no brainer.

Scott was very honest, receptive and up front about the services that he provides and does not provide. Despite the problem presented not being part of his service, he did provide insight after listening to the ongoing problem based on his years of experience and expertise with windows and window installation. Very helpful vendor and would trust him again for more work.

The appointment went extremely well. I was upstairs and did not hear Scott ring the doorbell. He could have left, but instead called my home number. He arrived on time, was very professional and friendly, and was done in an hour. I would highly recommend this company to anyone and will be calling them back to replace the rest of our screens.

The woman who answered the phone said they did not perform that type of service. However, instead of just hanging up, she took the extra time to walk me through what I needed to do, who I should call and what I should ask the contractor. I have never had better customer service!! She even gave me phone numbers of people I could use as contractors. Wow. If their customer service is this great for someone who isn't using their service, how great would they be for their customers? I would definitely use them if I needed window repair.

Response from Window Restoration And Repair
[remove member name] I am very sorry to hear about your experience. I have asked everyone on staff to review their individual records for last month and I can't find any reference to a visit to your address or any mention of your name. What I fear has happened is that you contacted a local competitor of ours that chose (intentionally) a name that is often confused for ours. Sadly, we occasionally get phone calls from disappointed customers of his with stories like yours. If, however, I am mistaken and we have somehow misplaced your proposal file, I will immediately correct this oversight. Either way, I urge you to contact us by phone so that we might be able to help solve your window problems. Sincerely, Scott Campbell Owner Window Restoration & Repair (562) 493-1590

The guys were beyond professional. I thought it was going to take a month or more to have them come out to tune-up our windows. We have a duplex and had renters moving in in February so we were put on a list for last minute openings. Rarely do you ever get that call saying, "Hey, we can come out today!" But we got that call. 2 very professional guys came, did the work swiftly and efficiently and cleaned everything up after. We struggled with restoring the windows vs replacing. I'm so happy with our decision for storing our old windows. They look beautiful. We will be hiring again when we are ready to renovate our side of the duplex.

First off, I don't have much time to write reviews, but I am compelled to review this company because I was so blown away by the work that was done here today. We have a 1925 Spanish with a lot of historical integrity intact. Our living room has a giant 15 pane window (nearly floor to ceiling) with the original glass that was on the brink of blowing in should a strong wind hit. We talked to several people and the general consensus was that we'd have to replace the window (so much for the integrity of the house). Then I stumbled on Window Restoration and Repair and called them out for a quote. Norm came the SAME DAY and gave me loads of info on how things could be handled, what kind of wood/glass we had etc. He knew his stuff. Had a quote in hand within days. I won't lie, it wasn't that cheap, but at the same time, this company would give us a real shot of keeping our gorgeous window intact (including the old world details like existing curves and bevels), but with new wood, and potentially new glass (which we didn't want but they couldn't guarantee that the old glass would not break on extraction). I am writing this now because Jeff (our savior) worked so hard and so carefully and somehow managed to save enough panes to keep our upper two rows of glass intact (we knew we would have to swap out the bottom row because of building codes/need for tempered glass, and actually we wanted that because we have a kid in the house). However, that row doesn't matter because the killer view of the city is from the top 2 rows and keeping the old glass makes it that much better. They are miracle workers! The window is fixed, it is AMAZING, the old glass details are there, they cut everything to fit perfectly. Even they were amazed they could pull it off because, trust me, it wasn't easy. They also fixed/weatherproofed two old dining room windows. There was a crew of 4 guys here and they managed to keep things neat, clean and efficient. I work from home and I wasn't put out by any of it (another miracle!). Jeff is coming back tomorrow to finish the glazing and final details and they will have gotten this done on time and with no additional costs or stress. Not only that, they saved our glass. They made the window better than ever. How cool is that? Brian was the project manager and he is a great people person and dealt beautifully with my husband who had many fears about this project at the outset (he is a picky designer type and very hard to please). He will be thrilled when he sees the results. We cannot recommend this company enough. If an A+ exists, they would get it! If you have a house with historical integrity, you must use these guys. They know their wood/glass/old homes/architecture etc. You will not regret it!

The two workers arrived promptly, set up their work stations and began. They removed the windows, repaired cordage, added weather breaks and trim as needed, cleaned up (vacuumed), having placed plastic covers over furniture as needed. Very pleasant and professional folks. As stated on the contract, they do not do glazing nor painting. So if one is anticipating a finished look, be forewarned that you will need additional steps. In so far as restoring (not replacing) the windows, which is what I'd wanted, they did excellent work. Very pleased.

They arrived on time. They covered all of my belongings with plastic, and placed drop cloths on the floor. They set-up in the driveway and had all of their equipment outside. As they finished each window, I was asked to come and try the window for completeness. Truly, I could not believe it was the same window!! Anyway, when they were finished they vacuumed up their work spaces, swept off the driveway, I paid the bill and they left. They did an excellent job!

You'll have to wait until after November 9 (the day now scheduled). But if it's anything like my current experience with them, they will be fantastic.
Description of Work: They will be restoring (2) and repairing (2) windows in my 1926 house. The work was schedule for early October, but I had to move it to November. He described how the work would be done and how ling it would take.

Our job wasn't right for Window Restoration but they knew who to refer us to. Sometimes it's better to know when to say no and point a potential client in the correct direction. We are Delong our home and have a few windows that need replacing - while we could have gone the cheap vinyl route but they saw what type of windows we already owned when we remodeled, high end Anderson windows, and they referred us to RENEWAL BY ANDERSON. We looked at all the products out there and, for our situation, Anderson was the best route. We really appreciate the referral and guidance. Once the installation is done we will write our review of Renewal by Anderson once the installation is complete.

From the first phone call to the last, Window Restoration and Repair performed in a exemplary manner. My first contact was with Bridget on the phone, she was very helpful in explaining the work that Window Restoration and Repair performs and she set up my appointment with Norm. Norm arrived on time (always a great start, in my opinion). Norm spent more than two hours meticulously examining all of the windows and doors-no easy task, as this house has more than 100 windows and 15 doors. He promised to send an estimate in the next couple of days, a promise he kept. The estimate was extremely detailed. He quoted repair and maintenance on all of the windows, however, he recommended immediate repair on a little less than 1/2 of the windows, which he quoted as a separate number. I had already had a quote on replacing all of the windows-that quote was for $150,000, so I was quite excited to be quoted approximately 10% of that number for repairs. I scheduled to have the windows and doors repaired. On the appointed day, my crew arrived precisely on time. The crew consisted of Jeff, Caesar, Nick, Esteban and the foreman, Brian. Brian asked to be shown around the house and we went over Norm's meticulous quote room by room. As the work began, Brian found some additional repairs that needed to be done, he gave me very precise pricing on what the additional costs would be. These guys were polite, neat and extremely hard workers. Brian took the time to explain to me how to perform maintenance on the remaining windows and the newly refurbished windows. The initial job took 4 days but they had to return to finish the job because supplies had to be ordered for the additional work. They did everything that they promised to do in an efficient and professional manner. I would highly recommend that you consult Window Restoration and Repair before deciding to replace your windows. I can't thank my crew enough-it was pleasure working with them.

This company was very professional. They called the day before the appointment to remind us of the appointment. The gentleman arrived on time, and was able to give me an on the spot estimate for the work. There was no pressure to hire, and an approximate timeline to do the work was given. We hired this company to fix our windows later this month - September 2013. My expectation is that they will do everything they said they would do (fix pullup/down mechanism, replace broken panes of glass). They will not be painting the windows after the work is done. We will need to have that done separately, but we are okay with that.

OVERVIEW: We could not be more pleased with how this project went from start to finish. Everyone we dealt with was prompt, polite, knowlegeble and attentive to our goals. They treated our home with respect and taught us things along the way. They were true craftsman and our home is much improved by their work. (If only I could clone them into masonry, stucco and painting and tile contactors!) THE DETAILS: The windows of our 1920's home were so deteriorated that we weren't able to open them at all, but because they are beautifully proportioned and built with hardwood sills and jambs (that cannot be found today), we wanted to restore them where possible and replace only what was necessary. Non-wood replacements were out of the question. After reading the glowing reviews of Window Restoration and Repair (WR&R) we contacted them for an estimate. Norm, our sales consultant, set an appointment with me and arrived on time. It was a gret meeting. He spent ample time listening to my project goals and reviewing each window with me. He took pictures and detailed measurements. He taught me lots about window construction and hardware. He provided a long list of references with photos of the company's previous jobs. By week's end I had a clear and detailed written estimate via email. In fact, email communication during the whole process kept things easy. Upon payment of a deposit (for the needed replacement sashes), we were put on the schedule for work. (They were booking 60+ days in advance; these guys are in demand!) The full job was schedued for a single day with a four-man work crew. Two days before the job was scheduled, WR&R called to make sure we were prepared or had any questions. On the day of work, the crew -- Esteban, Ceasar, and Jeff, lead by Brian -- arrived on time and set quickly to their full day of work. All were pleasant and professional. They covered their work areas with plastic and kept the house clean. Each window was lovingly and carefully restored. They were even able to save one of our hardwood sills that was scheduled for replacement! And when some unexpected pre-existing damage was discovered during the job, they repaired it and kept rolling, keeping everything on schedule. It was really a beautiful thing to see the care they put into our home and their pride in their fine work. Well done! FOLLOW UP: I think the best recommendation I can give is this: In the spring we will be asking WR&R to come back and restore our remaining windows. Restoration is not a low-cost window fix alternative, but the value and quality work that we got makes it well worth every dollar. And sitting here now, with the ocean breezes wafting through my open windows, I could not be more pleased with our investment. Thank you Brian, Esteban, Cesar, Jeff and Norm. It was a pleasure to work with you. We are looking forward to the Spring job.
Description of Work: Repaired and restored five double-hung wood windows, exactly matching the originals and other windows in my 1920's home. Also, repaired and restored two hinged single-casement kitchen windows which crank open. Five of the seven of the windows required the fabrication of new sashes in douglas fir and replacement hardware . Some of the windows required the repair of the window jambs & sills, including expoxy work. All windows got new weather stripping. All windows were squared, sanded and lubricated. Our windows now work perfectly, opening and closing with ease.

Just had some of our 1920's double hung windows restored by Window Restoration and they did an amazing job! Had someone come to our home to initially inspect all of our windows. Norm was super friendly and very helpful and informative. Quote arrived within a couple of days and included everything that was discussed in person. Thumbs up to Norm! We had 4 windows restored yesterday: rope and pulley system fixed, latches installed, night locks installed, weather strips installed, and broken glass replaced. They came out great! Can't believe how easily operable these windows are once they are restored. They now can be opened from bottom to top as well as top to bottom which we had no idea was possible. Apparently this helps with air circulation and can help lower our temperature by 10 degrees during the summer! The guys that came to restore the windows arrived right on time (early, actually, as I could see them waiting in front of our house until the appt time). They worked diligently and professionally. Can't wait to have the rest of our windows restored as soon as it fits into our budget! If you are looking to get your windows restored hire Window Restoration; you won't regret it.

Installers Brian, Cesar & Estaban showed up on time on a very hot day. No A/C on account of the doors and window open. They got everything done in a day. Brian did a beautiful job of rebuilding on site the stool and apron from raw lumber and fitting it better than the original. He did this in an unshaded leaded glass bay window on a 100 degree day. The double hung windows also were fit with care. They also added a lot of quality weather stripping to the windows and replaced the balances. These replaced 4 loose fitting & rotting original windows that got a lot of weather exposure. With proper maintenance wood replacement windows should last decades. Don't replace your original wood windows with vinyl or aluminum, go with what your vintage home came with. The weather stripping they do will make them as weather tight as any of vinyl or aluminum replacements. They are not inexpensive, but you get what you pay for and then some. Professional, quality work by skilled craftsmen. I highly recommend these guys.

They were very professional. One gentleman came and gave me a quote and set a date. I received a confirmation a week before the scheduled date. They showed up on time. I was introduced to everyone on the team and they began work. Every detail that was explained. If there was a unknown issue it was described to be and the resolution was explained. The price was then quoted to me and I was given the decision whether to proceed or not. The left the areas they work on, some of them, cleaner that they found them. They were very professional. I will use them again. And I highly recommend them to anyone.

These guys definitely know their stuff, but are very busy as it took over a month before they could do the job. We decided it would be worth the wait to get these old windows working again, and we were right. We love that we were able to maintain the original character of the house when most of our neighbors just replaced theirs with vinyl. We were also planning to paint our house and their estimator told us it would be okay to have it painted before the windows were done and that we could just touch up the windows later. That touch up turned out to be a big job, so I wouldn't recommend anyone do it that way. The guys showed up on time and were professional, polite and careful in how they treated our home, leaving it in good condition. We had new oil rubbed bronze sash locks installed, which look great, but their price didn't include the pulls, so we put those in later ourselves. Not a big deal, but it seems they should have included these in their estimate in the first place to complete the look of the window. One of the guys wanted me to pay before the work was complete, but I told him I would pay once the work was done. Turns out, he had finished his part and wanted to leave before the other guy was done, which he did. When the works was done one of the windows didn't lock very easily. When I mentioned it, the guy said something about it needing to break in. Sure enough, it never got any easier and I had to call them to come out to repair it, which they did right away - no waiting. The weatherstripping makes a huge difference in street noise. Overall, we are very happy with the work that was done and are so glad we decided to restore rather than replace.

They took out the sliding windows, sanded or repaired the wood and frames, replaced the mechanisms and hardware and installed new weatherstripping. What an amazing difference. They are so easy to use now and sound like zippers opening and closing.

So far, so good. Our order is in process and Norm provided a reasonable estimate in terms of how long it would take to get the job completed since parts needed to be ordered etc.. We are hopeful that it will all go well and look forward to reporting our final experience. Thank you WR&R. We look forward to working with you!
Description of Work: I called all over the place and happily spoke to "Bridget" who was over the top nice, responsive and informative. Within one week of my initial call, she scheduled an installer to come out and assess our needs. The day before the appointment, we received a confirmation call and the day of the appointment, "Norm" called to confirm his arrival and showed up on time and offered excellent customer service. We can't recommend this company enough.
