The team showed up promptly as scheduled at 7:30am, and when they were finished you never would have known they were here, except for our newly restored windows! Before they got here, none of them opened from the top (had been painted closed). Most wouldn’t stay open without being propped open. There were major gaps where air was able to get in. Sash cords were disconnected and hanging all over the place. They even had to replace the glass on a couple windows. But when they were finished, everything opens smoothly from bottom AND top.

I spoke to Scott on the phone and after sending him a photo he sent me a Utube link on how to remove my sliding window. Thanks to his concern, I was able to repair the frame myself (a small tab had slipped out of the frame). I had no idea that I could remove the windows so easily. I had been fighting with removing the screens for cleaning for years! Scott saved the day! He went out of his way to help me. He didn't have to do this, as his company specializes in restoration of older windows and mine are vinyl. Based on his professionalism alone, I would highly recommend him to anyone who appreciates good, old fashioned service! He was genuinely happy that I was able to fix it myself, with his help.

It was great. They were honest and up-front that the windows may not successfully open. But after almost two days of work, all but one window (that was broken upon inspection) now open. They are clearly experts in the intricacies of old, custom windows. They communicated issues that we might encounter while telling us how they fixed things. If you have any older windows that need restoration, then these guys are the best.
Description of Work: We have about 15 sliding windows from the 1930s that were painted shut or rusted shut before we bought the house. Replacing them was out of the question, so we had them come over to try and make the windows functional again.

This review is long overdue. If you need your historical windows working again, look no further. Every person I dealt with from this firm was outstanding. Everyone from Brigit at the office, Norm at the site visit and Nick and his crew on repair day all blew me away. Their dedication to great customer service and doing excellent work was so evident. They did an outstanding job restoring twelve 90 year old windows that were painted shut or in other forms of distress. Some even required new glass. They handled it all! All my double hung windows glide like butter now! It should be noted that the type of repair WR&R performs typically requires extensive sanding to ensure proper operation. Getting the windows fully restored to their original condition may require a skilled painter that specializes in windows after the initial repair is done. That was the case for my windows. I was referred to Ed Gonzalez Painting and sadly he was a nightmare to work with (more on that in a different review). The disappointment with Ed had nothing to do with WR&R. They simply had other customers work with him and they passed his name along. I can't fault WR&R for that but I did mention to Brigit and Norm my poor experience as a warning to other customers. The good news is I found a fabulous painter later and I couldn't be more pleased. Everyone that sees the windows and doors now comments how amazing they look. I can't thank Norm enough for guiding us through it all. We are very happy with our decision to repair rather than replace. PS. Don't confuse Window Restoration & Repair with another company called Windows Repaired and Restored. That is another company entirely and not as highly recommended.

I just spent a half-hour on the phone with the owner, Scott Campbell, who convinced me that may not need his services, and then looked up names and contact information for other subs who could do the work for less money. He walked me through window terminology, patiently taking his time to explain my options. He seems imminently trustworthy and patient, and I look forward to hiring him and his crew in the future.

I sincerely apologize. We take our customer contact seriously and I am confused by this one. I see your message came in on Thursday night of last week at 9:40pm. My notes then show we reached out to you with a message at 10:40am the next morning. Clearly there has been a mistake of some sort for which I am very sorry. Finding this company seemed like a miracle. I LOVED the windows in the 1978 home I bought, but no one had any idea how to make them functional. I interviewed every major window replacement company. The prices were outrageous ($60-100,000), and there was no way to replace the windows without ruining the stucco on the outside of the house. Window Restoration replaced the wheels that allow the windows to slide, greased everything, and repaired the opening mechanisms. They brought in an experienced team of 4 to do all the work in one day (not easy because my house is on a big slope). At the end of the day, they LOWERED the estimate because they said they were able to get all the windows operational for less than they thought. In a throw away culture, these wonderful people are dedicated to keeping windows working instead of ripping them out and throwing them away. The estimator told me that he used to work for a major replacement company but felt didn't feel right about selling the products when he knew the old windows could be fixed. I cannot recommend this company highly enough. Professional. Reliable. And completely HONEST!!!

Thank you (Removed member name)! Aluminum sliders from the 1960's and '70s have been stuck in the popularity basement for a long time, but finally more and more people are discovering that there are some situations where they are great! Almost no one knows, however, that they don't have to put up with poorly functioning windows of this type. The rollers assemblies can be replaced, the tracks can be smoothed, the latches and locks can be adjusted and suddenly they are like new! So spread the word... Repair, don't replace! And, thanks again. :)

I can tell that this is a top notch and honest company. I was very impressed with Norm Tuazon. He patiently explained what his company did. After listening to what I wanted, he honestly told me that his company is not for me for the type of work I wanted done. He said a good painter can do what I wanted and he recommended a painter. How many companies would be that honest in this day and age? Lately, I have been so disappointed with the services I have used. It was so refreshing to deal with a company like yours that was so upfront and honest. Unfortunately, I was not able to use this company but I will definitely keep this company in mind for future work and I will be happy to recommend to others. Thank you Norm.

These guys were amazing, and they had a lot to put up with at our house. Scott came and looked at the windows, and gave me the standard price and discussion of what they would do. Whey Cesar and Diego came and started to poke around, they discovered that, while the windows were in great shape in general, when someone stuccoed the house decades ago, they totally got stucco and nails into the casings. The windows had not opened properly for decades, and it was a long, painful struggle to make it all work. Here's the note I sent at the end: We want to thank you and Cesar and Diego so much for all the work you did at our house. Not only did Cesar and Diego put in an extraordinarily long day, they did beautiful, careful work on our windows. Everything works perfectly, and is fully ready for painting. We really appreciate the care taken with the wood, with Cesar's careful cuts and equally careful work in re-assembling, puttying, and smoothing surfaces. I was amazed, at the end of all this work, at how completely and carefully they cleaned up...not a spot of sawdust or paint chips are to be found anywhere. And that is saying a ton, because the sanding and scraping went on for more than 10 hours. Having compared the rates to those my friends were quoted for similar jobs elsewhere in the country (mostly from the east coast), this was really also a very good deal. Wish all folks were this knowledgeable and professional...not to mention nice!

Now I understand why they book several months in advance (good companies stay busy). They do the historic restoration work that very few people know how to do anymore. My home is from 1925 and Brian Saffel was able to make the wonky windows in our bedroom/bathroom work like new again. Highly recommend! (if I could afford to have them work on every single window in the house, I would). Will hire them again in the future--have no doubt.

Ends up that the company specializes in restoring windows in older homes, not fixing newer windows one-off. Even though I wasn't going to be a customer Scott Campbell contacted me to let me know that they offer a different service than what I need. Scott went even further and referred me to two companies that replace glass in my area. I wish I had an older home that needs the windows restored. If I did I would definitely use Window Restoration and Repair.

When we moved in to our new home, two of our windows didn?t work properly. A simple repair, right? But everyone we called was unwilling to do anything less than replace every window in our entire house. Until we came to Window Restoration and Repair. From Scott and Norm to Nick and his crew, I have been very impressed. They have a complete knowledge of our type of home which is 90 years old and the types of windows and hardware used in them. Although we have lived here 16 years, we never could afford to get the windows done as this was a big fixer upper and there was always something else that needed our money and attention. I wanted to make sure we could keep the integrity of the house, which is why I stayed with wooden windows. . All at WWR&R were more than willing to educate me and let me know what was going on each step of the way. I actually paid a little more than the original quote as you can't really foresee what might be hiding in the walls, but I think it was more than worth it. My boss recommended WWR&R over a year ago as they had done some work for her that she loved, so I looked on Angie's list and was pleased they were represented here. I can't say enough about how good I think they are and their product and service and would not hesitate to recommend them as well. Thanks guys!

Norm came to my 1928 Janes Cottage type home in Altadena, CA. He clearly explained the process and that the company works on the mechanics of the window. As the house ages and things shift, the windows may not be plumb and so the team will take away wood and put down wood as necessary to ensure an excellent fit, as well as place a groove to accommodate the weather stripping into the jamb and a piece under the sash (window) itself along with a copper splash piece to divert moisture and water to the outside of the window. He was very clear that their work was not aesthetic, rather, functional and preserves the integrity of the wood and window. I've had a LOT of work done to my home and all the contractors were more than willing to put in vinyl windows - no way! I read that with restoration of the windows, the heating/cooling loss through the window is relatively similar and restoration/repair preserves the character of my home (and the value). He provided me with some informational information ("What We Do with Older Casement Windows," a reference list, and "Top 10 Reasons to Restore or Repair wood window." Norm also gave me the contact information of a gentleman that the company recommends for completing the finishing (sanding/stripping, reglazing, painting, etc - Mr. Ed Gonzales). Nick, Cesar and Scottie showed up on time and while I showed Nick around, Scottie and Cesar proceeded to set up shop on the drive (I moved my car so they could pull their truck up to the house). I was impressed with the care they showed my home (putting down protective drop clothes, plastic sheeting over the furniture and the drapes). Scottie took a rotary saw type handheld machine to break through the years of paint on the sealed double hung window. To get to the guts of the window he had to pull off part of the surrounding finishing frame (he did this ever so gently to preserve the wood and ultimately put it back on and calked around the window on that side. He took out the old "guts" on the double hung window and inserted an 8-pound window-gut-wire-pulley box. He also did some shaving, inserted weather stripping and I"m sure a whole lot more. I can now move (with extreme ease) both windows up and down. The breeze coming in was absolutely wonderful. This window is in a bathroom, so it will be great to have it open up. Cesar worked in my overcrowded office/front bedroom. He had the pleasure of working around the thorny roses in front of these windows outside too. He showed me how the window had changed position over the years and he told me what he was going to be doing. Concerned about a possible gap, he placed a larger weather stripping on this particular window (vice installing a hardware item that would be fitted at the top and bottom of the window). He was concerned about the window being bowed slightly, but he worked his magic and I don't have to look at additional hardware. Nick worked on the four windows in the living room (along with Scottie when he finished the double hung window). He informed me that there was one window that had some structural concerns and he presented options - to reinforce the window with nails/screws and epoxy or replace the entire sash. That particular casement window was not your usual rectangle - it formed part of an ornamental window along with a standing central piece and the other contralateral casement (think $$$$ for a new custom wood sash). So, he worked his magic and fixed it and epoxied it. He'll return on 1 July to complete that section (it has to dry). I'm very pleased with the work and after they left I called the office to speak with Bridgit to reschedule. She is very helpful and responsive. She wasn't there, but Mr. Scott Campbell answered the phone. He was so pleasant and helpful. It wasn't until later that I learned he was the owner. He said that Bridgit will call me in the morning to schedule phase 2 (7 windows). I expect that since they are so busy, it will likely be about 2 months - which isn't so bad. ?.more time to save up some $$$ :-) The entire team is professional, courteous, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. Their work (as far as I can tell) is fantastic and that comes with a cost - but I'm able to have some preventive/rehabilitative work done on my windows and these should last another 86 years! Oh, and I almost forgot - they cleaned up and removed the plastic sheeting and you would never know they were here. - actually, the floors are probably a bit cleaner after they vacuumed and swept up. Many thanks to the Window Restoration and Repair team.
Description of Work: For phase I, the team (comprising Nick, Cesar and Scottie) came to my home on time. They placed down protective drop clothes and covered the furniture and the drapes with plastic protective sheeting. I moved my furniture and picked up my carpets for ease of movement and knowing that the team will need to move indoor and outdoors to do their magic (I don't wear shoes in my home - so they were on all hardwood floors). The team explained again what they were going to be doing and they even were able to add on another window on the spot. The team restored/repaired my south facing casement windows in the front bedroom, living room and a south facing double hung window in the back house that was sealed shut with many years of paint. 5 single wood casement x $305, a smaller casement for $270, another smaller one that needed some hardware installed ($305), and the back house double hung for $385. I have one window that had some damage and Nick put on some epoxy ($100) and will come back to finish that next Tuesday am. Nick was in the living room, Scottie was in the back house and Cesar did the front bedroom windows.

They were very knowledgeable. I called and explained my situation to Scott and he emailed me photos of examples while I was on the phone with him. He took a lot of time to understand the situation and scheduled an appointment. Norm came out and was extremely thorough, taking measurements of everything. He took the time to explain what my original windows probably were based on the frames. (My house is from the 20s but the windows were probably replaced in the 70s so I wanted to change them back.) He walked through the whole house with us explaining everything they would do. He sent me a detailed quote. They are not cheap but I believe you get what you pay for. I really want to use them in the future when my budget allows it. They do have a lead time of a month or two before they can start work. My neighbors ended up using them for several windows and were happy. You can read their review.

Arrived on time and worked continuously, except for lunch break. Worked in concert with our window glazier. Backed out price of one window, which had dry rot throughout. Awaiting estimate of new window to replace it. They vacuumed thoroughly afterwards. Windows, which hadn't opened in years because of settling and earthquakes, easily glided. New locks looked sharp. Last night I went upstairs to watch TV. It was so quiet! Weatherstripping cut out sound I wasn't even aware of. Are hopeful that the weatherstripping, which is also bevelled, will keep the water from pooling and eliminate the dry rot problem and having to have a towel under the leak.
