WE were very satisfied with Family plumber and felt they were honest and dependable. See the above narrative.
Description of Work: Mike was very responsive and honest. After doing some repair work on the flow mechanism of our toilet and replacing some washers on the garage laundry sink ,he performed an inspection of the pipes beneath our raised foundation home to verify whether our pipes needed immediate replacement as we had been advised to do by another plumber. He siad that there was some evidence of rust at one of the fittings but there was no need of immediate replacemnet givne our current financial limitations. He also made some helpful recommendations regarding our floor furnace and referred us to another " family business " to have a professional safety inspection of some previous repair work that had been done on the furnace. Both Family plumbers and the company to whom he referred us did great work and were very honest and trustworthy in their advice.

The Family Plumber is awesome! I called them less than 2 hours ago and my plumbing problems is already fixed. When I called Vicki answered and was very helpful; she managed to get Rick to come out and clear the clog within an hour of my call. Rick arrived and inspected the problem and then gave me the details of what needed to be done. He did exactly what he said he would do and charged me exactly what he said he would charge. There was no sales pressure to try and sell me additional services that I did not need. Rick was professional, prompt and competent. He even cleaned up and had both my kitchen and bathroom sinks looking better than it did before he arrived. I of course hope I never have any other plumbing problems but if I do, I will call The Family Plumber. What a nice experience--something you can't always count on these days.
Description of Work: My sink in the kitchen backed up. I tried everything to clear it but it got worse and then even backed up in the bathroom. Rick came out and snaked (cleared) the main line.

Sink clogged on Christmas Sunday in the late afternoon. I tried my usualy fix-its and nothing worked. The next day I tried to snake the clean-outs (inside house & outside house) and could go 20-25 feet w/o any fix. 12:45 pm Mon called Family Plumber and the were at the house VERY promptly at 1:30 (as promised; included a call when the plumber was on the way). They provided a $100 quote on the phone and had applied the Angie's List $10 discount. VERY reasonable. Rick/plumber arrived at 1:30 as promised..came in and saw the sink..asked where the outside cleanout was...we went out to it and I said I'd already tried it. He then returned to get other tools from his truck and went directly to the kitchen sink and snaked it "twice". Took 30-min..because I guess it went over 50feet. Tested the cleaned drain..ok..then he wiped down the sink/faucet/sink cabinet. Very detailed & conscientious (he had brought in a large rubber mat to cover the floor and placed his tools on it. He wiped the floor after he removed his tools. Told me they also guaranteed the work so call back if we had anymore problems. All this for only $100 for the house call. WOW!
Description of Work: Kitchen sink wouldn't drain. I personally spent hours with my plunger, snakes, cleanout, liquid plumber, etc. and finally called Family Plumber Mon 12;45PM noon...Rick arrived in 45min (including a call to me when he was on his way). WIthin 30min he had to drain cleared spending extra care and snaked it twice for about 50ft. (I thought he was going to hit oil). re-checked all the plumbing and tightened anything loose/leaking (which I had caused)...replaced the exterior drain cap that I broke on the clean-out...wiped down the sink, faucet, cabinet & floor. He was OUTSTANDING...very professional, efficient, prompt, detailed & fast...and VERY reasonable $100 (with $10 angie discount). Family Plumber is on our speed dial now. Extremely happy.

Called for an appointment with Vicky, who was very pleasant on the phone. She was able to schedule me on the date I wanted and even made a courtesy reminder to let me know of my appointment. Paul had arrived between the stated time frame and was ready to work on the problem. The shower stall has not been rooter since I could remember. Paul was able to the unclogged the problem out. He also made sure that the work area was cleaned prior to leaving. I no longer have to worry about going thru plumbers, The Family Plumber is the ONE.

Have just bought a short sale house, we realized there were problems with the plumbing throughout. Rick from the Family Plumbers was fantastic. He came a few days after we called for help and explained each issue (in the kitchen, in the bathroom) and how much it would cost to fix each problem. He recommended replacing the toilet since ordering parts for the model we had would cost more than installing a new one. He recommended the model that we already had in the master bath. He found some huge issues with the plumbing under the sink that, if left as is, could have created a pipe burst an cost us thousands in damages. He was punctual and efficient and returned to complete the work a few days later after ordering the parts. He also looked at the faucet in the master bath and adjusted the water pressure. All costs were laid out in detail so that nothing was a surprise. All work was completed in a timely fashion and his partners were extremely professional and efficient. They will definitely remain our "family" plumbers if we have any plumbing needs in the future.
The Family Plumber offers friendly and prompt and appointment booking and service.

He was responsive and prompt. We assumed we had tree roots blocking the sewer line, but he checked that and found no roots. He was then able to clear our blockage near one of the bathrooms by way of our 2-way cleanout. Very professional. Would have liked to have had the drain checked by camera, but I had been told over the phone that the camera is an extra $120. He was very professional and I would hire them again.

The woman who answered the phone was polite and helpful. The plumber was polite, friendly and knowledgeable and completed the job quickly. He also cleaned up his mess. The estimate was complimentary. I had quite a list of items. I asked that the estimate would be itemized by "job" which enabled me to omit when item from the list that I ended up hiring them to do. Parts & Labor are bundled in the estimate for each job. Rick was the plumber sent to do the estimate and he also did the work. On the day Rick came to do the estimate I was having trouble with my water heater. Without prompting he called the manufacturer to request information. I eventually eliminated the water heater from the list of items as I ended up calling my Home Owner Warranty company to cover the work. The day the work was done Rick was efficent and cleaned-up each area before moving on to the next thing, and he also took the time to explain things to me. Towards the end of the job as Rick went out to the truck he noticed that my meter box was full of water. It had rained pretty hard a few days before, he tested it and determined that there was a leak on the city side of the box and told me to call the city. If it wasn't for Rick the leak would have gone on for a few weeks as I was getting ready to go on business trip. Excellent proactive customer service. The next time I need a plumber, The Family Plumber will be the one I call.
Description of Work: I moved into my home at the end of December. In January, I had the Family Plumber: a) replace almost all of the water valves inside and outside of the house andin the garage with 1/2 and 1/4 turn valves, b) replace parts inside an older toilet (essentially recondition the tank), and replaced the flapper on a second toilet c) took out a refrigerator water line, replaced the pipe, and installed a valve for a future waterline, d) replaced parts in the shower and attached a loose plate.

I actually don't know the exact date The Family Plumber first came out, but Mike came to look at my water heater on a Saturday and fixed the sink in my garage for free since it was a really easy fix and he didn't charge to come out to look at my water heater, and I really appreciated his honesty. He told me how to shop for a good water heater and even offered to give me feedback on the one I picked. He also offered other options than versus using his company. I did purchase a water heater from him and had it installed and instead of charging me $1,150 he fitted the water heater with my existing earthquake straps and other hardware and I ended up paying around $990.00. On the other occasions, he fixed my sink and my toilet. His staff are always on time, very courteous and professional. I really like the company and will use them again and again. To fix my toilet, which was never secured properly from a remodel, they charged $125.00 and to fix the clog in my sink, which was clogged in both sinks and the garbage disposal, the fee was $110.00. The only complaint I had with the sink was since I wasn't home and my 18-year old son was, I didn't get an opportunity to ask them to just replace the garbage disposal. Also, his office staff are really nice and professional.
Description of Work: I've had The Family Plumber come out at least 3 times since I originally called them. The first was for my water heater, the second was for my kitchen sink and the third was for my toilet.,

This was a frustrating experience, because the people are nice, but the service process is unusual and the service itself inconsistent in terms of quality. Earlier in 2010, I had a home inspection performed in order to learn what, if any plumbing, electrical, etc., issues I needed to deal with before I spent my savings on something more enjoyable. Sure enough, the inspector found plenty to be done in the realm of plumbing. Soon thereafter, I looked through Angie's list and based on reviews, selected the Family Plumber to come out and provide an estimate. Rick was the very nice plumber they sent. I showed him the inspector's report and then he went though the areas around and under the house that needed work and provided an estimate for the remedial work. Some time went by (we had to save up for the work that needed to be done) and then Rick came out for the first time on December 2nd. But wait: a day or two before his scheduled appointment, Megan from the office called and asked me if they could reschedule because of another client with an emergency. Since I had arranged to take the day off from work, I said no, but would find another plumber. Somehow, though, they were able to get Rick out. Not including the initial meeting during which I asked for an estimate, it took three visits to accomplish the work because the Family Plumber schedules their team in hourly increments - something I have never previously encountered. So if something goes sideways or takes longer, one is left to schedule an additional appointment. As I said, Rick is very nice, but he does tend to leave debris from his work. Not excessively, but not acceptably, either. As mentioned above, he was not able to do all of the requisite work on the first visit, so told me to call the office to schedule another time. While here, though, he noted the standing water under the house and remarked that there was no visible source, but that he would talk to the owner of the company. I never heard the results of that effort and doubt that it occurred. When he did come back, he had a different theory for the water beneath the house, but also remarked it was in another location. Once again, before his second visit, I was called by the office to reschedule - this time for some other reason. This was a huge inconvenience since I had again arranged time off from work. We made arrangements, but at this point I was getting weary of the process. The last time, two other guys ended up coming out to finish the work. They were very nice and seemed much more competent. When I called to schedule that last appointment, I also reported that when Rick had moved a hose bib he had drilled into the stucco and then changed his mind and left the first set of holes there without patching them. Also, one of the outside sprinkler valves leaked a lot after he had worked on it. Too, he had taken pictures of the shower faucet so he'd be able to match it when he came back, and had obviously done no follow-up, because when the new team came (Josh and ???), they had to scramble to get a finish that would match mine (they did, and I really appreciated their extra effort). What I didn't realize and mention at the time is that when he moved the other hose bib in the back yard, he placed the spigot so low to the ground that it is something of a back pain to reach. Not impressed. Too, the hole he had drilled is significantly larger than the size required and he didn't seal it. I also didn't know until even more time had elapsed (it had been raining a lot, so I had not needed to water the yards) is that when he fixed the leaky sprinkler valve in front that one now needed to call Mr. Universe to turn on the sprinklers because it is VERY hard to turn without considerable strength. Have I said enough yet? I am tired of typing, so let me summarize like this: way too much hassle to get a day's worth of plumbing work done (maybe a day and a half, at most). UPDATE 02/01/11: I have changed my original D rating to an overall C, and changed my rating of the company's professionalism from a D to a B. This change was inspired by the fact that the owner, Mike, personally came to my home to remedy the things that I had previously cited as unsatisfactory. I didn't ask them to do this: they offered. There was no additional charge, and Mike scheduled a time that was convenient for me. I would love to give the overall experience a higher rating, but what happened initially isn't wiped out by their willingness to fix it, although I have gained a lot of respect for them for initiating the remedial work.
Description of Work: Inspect and remedy source of standing water under house; repair irrigation pipes/ valves ( installed upside down by landscaper ); move two outdoor spigots/hose bibs, replace angle stops, install ball valve; camera inspection of sewer main line, replace shower head and supply tube to toilet. I'm sure there's more, but this the the bulk of it.

Response from The Family Plumber
Quality Service is our top priority and we strive to work together as a team to provide exceptional service. We were originally called out on 7-2-10 to investigate standing water under the house. Rick went out inspected and recommended to camera the sewer to be sure a pipe was not leaking under the ground. At this time the client told Rick that she had another plumber out who had told her the same advice, she needed to camera the drain line. She also told Rick the other plumber had run a hose bib in the front yard planter box and that she was not happy with the plumber or the work he performed and that she felt very confident in Rick. At this time he gave her a written estimate of all items to be done -this estimate was on her Invoice #32300. Then the office scheduled for a second visit on 12-2-10. Due to the nature of our business, emergencies are out of our control. So when they arise, we try our best to take care of all clients, that is why in emergency situations we will call clients and ask them if they have any flexibility in their schedule, if not, such as this case, we will not reschedule. Again we only do this in emergency situations. Please note that we did not reschedule this client since that was her preference, however many of our clients do have flexibility so in most cases this works to accommodate both parties. On 12-2-10 Rick went out and did the work, however when he got there, the client added the snaking of the tub drain which was not on the original scheduled time or estimate. Rick did all work as scheduled with the exception of replacing one angle stop at the toilet. Since she added the tub snaking he was not sure if there would be enough time to do the angle stop as it was not a normal replacement, since this was a low boy toilet it required opening the wall to repair. On this same visit, Rick scoped the line with the camera and informed the client that per his findings the water under the house appeared to be ground water and he recommended she contact the city. Since the drain was fine it could be due to the heavy rains we recently had so, contacting the city would be the next step in resolving the water under the house. This was all noted on her invoice #33493. At this time he installed a new ball valve for the main shut off to sprinklers, please note he never worked on any individual sprinklers only the main shut off valve to sprinkler system. He also ran piping for the existing hose bib under the house to get the piping out of the planter box, per the client. Please note he never drilled any holes in the front yard stucco, those were from the previous plumber. Rick unscrewed the hose bib from the existing holes and moved it, he never drilled holes in the front stucco. Had the client informed him that she wanted the holes patched he would have gladly patched them. At this time when Rick was under her house he noticed the tub waste and overflow was leaking and recommended replacing. The client said she was thinking of changing the shower fixtures out to another type of finish. Rick informed her that the tub waste and overflow gasket came standard in chrome but we could get a different finish if she wanted. She was thinking of oil rubbed bronze, but she wasn’t sure, however, she had gold at the time. Rick took pictures of her gold trim and sent to our supplier. He later contacted our supplier to ensure they would have the different trims once she decided. He informed her that his immediate concern was to take care of the leak and when she decided on the type of finish we could change it. It was also at his time that Rick relocated the backyard hose bib. He had the client go outside and show him where she wanted it and Rick moved it to the location indicated by the client. After he was finished, Rick again had the client come out back to verify that it was where she wanted it. She went outside and said it was fine, but asked could it be raised, Rick said “yes” and told her he would change it. She then said not to bother. Please note- this is why we have clients show us where they want these types of items since everyone has an individual preference. Had she said she wanted it higher, Rick would have gladly moved it for her. At this time Rick drilled one hole in the stucco to place the hose bib which this left no open holes-the hose bib was placed tightly inside the drilled hole. It was at this visit that the client informed Rick that a sprinkler valve was leaking. Again Rick never worked on any individual sprinkler but, as a courtesy he tightened the nut on that particular sprinkler for the client at no charge. Upon reviewing this report the client states it is now too tight. Our office called the client immediately and scheduled to go out free of charge to loosen the nut on the sprinkler that we originally tightened as a courtesy. Rick ordered the tub waste and overflow and told her the office would schedule. Since this job required special parts and two techs we could not do it this day. The office did in fact call the client to see if she wanted to reschedule her call of 12-30-10, but only because Rick was on vacation and the office wasn’t sure if the client was expecting Rick. When the office explained to her that Rick was on vacation and it would be two other techs, she said that would be fine. Again we do this as a courtesy because many times clients are expecting the same tech that had been out on the job previously. It was at this time that the client told the office that Rick had been a bit untidy and that he left two holes in the stucco. The office offered to have the techs patch the holes when they came out and the client told the office it was not necessary as she was going to have her house painted. When Josh and Paul went out on 12-30-10 they replaced the tub waste and overflow and at this time the client said she wanted the gold trim. Remember the last she told Rick she was unsure. Since Rick had already given all the information to our supplier, our supplier had the gold cover and our office delivered the gold plate to the job site while the techs were still working, so the client could have the gold finish that day. While our techs were there, again they offered to patch the stucco holes that the other plumbing company had drilled, as a courtesy to the client. Again she said not to worry about it as she was going to get her house painted. As stated earlier, we contacted the client after reading her report to adjust the sprinklers. Mike, the owner went back out on 1-28-11, at that time he took apart her sprinklers and greased the first 2- they were extremely hard to take apart indicating that they had never been worked on. He informed the client of this. Mike then asked the client if there was anything else she needed. She said she wanted the hose bib raised higher in the backyard. She also told Mike that this was her fault because she had told Rick to put it anywhere. Mike raised the hose bib to where the client indicated. Mike did not charge her for any of these items. The client stated that she understood these were chargeable items and that she was at fault by not communicating to Rick at the time of the original service. We strive to provide a high level of client service, and we depend on our clients to communicate their expectations to us at the time of service so we can be assured that they are satisfied before we leave the jobsite. There was a lot of work that had to be performed for this property and we did our best to complete the work in a professional manner.

I spent $90 on the job. He gave me a discount. He came earlier than he had said. He said he had a free slot. I had a drain clog. He came out and worked with my husband. He fixed the problem and fixed it. He was terrific. I will use his services again in the future.
