They called before they came, came within the window originally given, and were very friendly and professional. The original plumber was having a problem and called in another to help him (he did not want to smash the tiles and, it turns out, something in there was cross threaded). They took care of everything, cleaned up, charged me less then the bid and put a 1 year guarantee on the fix. I can't tell you how many services/contractors that I have felt with lately and they are a breath of fresh air! I will totally use them again and recommend them to my friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: We had a tub/shower faucet that would not swap completely over to the shower mode (wasting water if you took a shower). My husband tried to repair it but it was old and something was seriously stuck. We bought the $99 deal ($200 worth of work) and they came out and gave us a bid of $185 before they started which was wonderful because it was under the deal amout.

After a different contractor ran a video camera through our sewer line and discovered that the line was broken and completely separated at the property line, I had Mr. Rooter of Long Beach come out to inspect the line and give me a second quote. After inspecting the line and confirming that it was broken, the technicians explained that I would need to conduct repairs to the sewer line on our property, and once it had been excavated, I would also need to correct problems with the sewer line in the public alley, if necessary. They then followed up with a written estimate for the work, which totaled nearly $20,000. I followed up with the technician after receiving the quote and specifically asked if the repairs in the alley were our responsibility or the City's, and he called and explained again that the work could be our responsibility and that we should hire Mr. Rooter to perform the work. This is despite the fact that the Long Beach Municipal Code and the Long Beach Water Department's rules and regulations specifically state that the City is responsible for maintenance of sewer lines outside of the private property line. I then spoke directly to the operations manager for the city sewer services, who confirmed that the City was responsible and that they would handle the repairs in the alley. This technician was shamefully trying to convince me to spend more than $15,000 on repairs in the public alley when he knew that those repairs weren't our responsibility. And if he didn't know that the city of Long Beach was responsible, despite the fact that his company is named Mr. Rooter OF LONG BEACH, then they are irresponsibly ignorant and not fit to be providing these services. Frankly, I think it's safe to assume they are simply deceptive and shady. I have no idea how many unsuspecting customers these guys have scammed, but I will absolutely not be doing business with them at any point, and I would warn away anyone I knew from using them.

Response from Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Long Beach
On my initial visit we could only view your sewer line up to the damaged section near the property line. My recommendation was to address this repair only. You told me you were getting several bids and asked me specifically if I could give you every possible cost beyond the estimate I provided. You told me the previous company gave you an estimate to perform a pipeliner and excavation within the alley. I reiterated the fact that I felt the initial repair would solve the problems but that I would provide you a quote for comparison purposes to the other bids. I did not feel at the time that I had a responsibility to inform you of how the city handles the maintenance of sewers beyond the property line. The city made this sound simple to you and inclusive of all problems, when in fact it is not a consistent and clear policy that they follow. I have had many customers call the city and wait for years to get the problem solved if at all. Many customers prefer to not deal with the inconvenience of stoppages and sewage backing up into their homes while they wait to see if the city actually solves the issue, so they decide to have the repairs done at their expense. The follow up estimate provided to you did not propose $20,000 of work, it clearly stated options that you requested. The recommended repair was for $2,960 with a possibility of some additional costs if the soil had to be removed or replaced and if your existing cast iron sewer was in good condition (I noted that it appeared to be). In my follow up call to you I clearly stated that any mechanical failures of the pipe in the alley way would be handled by the city. I explained that if there are roots causing stoppages and no apparent mechanical failures beyond this that the city may not classify this as a repair and you will be left to deal with any stoppages as a result. I believe you have been misinformed and misunderstood my intent. I have never taken advantage of any customer. Greg Woolley

This company went far beyond to provide the most excellent service. During the analysis and work, the field manager came to discuss what the issue was and go into greater detail. Professionals from first contact to competion. This particular company hires only the most highly trained and tested plumbers so you can be confident you will have the most competent team. Two condos were involved...the charges were very reasonable for the many hours spent !!! I would like to especially thank Leo for his skill, patience, and professionalism.

Professional, patient, and honest! I had a plumbing emergency when all our plumbing backed up in our "new", older home in Lakewood. I put in an appointment with my home insurance company AHS who sent another plumbing company right away; that plumber tried to snake the back up from every line, took my toilets off and flooded my bathrooms to no avail.. To sum it up they didn't fix the problem and said I needed to repipe my whole system which would cost $8 to $10k oop, not including my wood flooring they'd have to destroy to get to the pipe. My husband and I were devastated. Luckily those ***** never followed up so I called Mr Rooter and Gary, the supervisor, said he would come the next day with a camera. He was very patient and explained that it could be multiple things, and to not jump to conclusions the other plumber had suggested, which was drastic. Andy and Gary came the next morning and sent a camera down finding the blockage. They showed me everything on the camera before and after and explained everything along the way. They hydro- jetted the blockage for $550, a fraction of what the other plumber was suggesting. Their pricing is up front, and in a company 'menu' they carry around. They even cleaned the big mess the other plumber left with their shop vac. You get what you pay for, you could go to a less experienced, cheaper plumber.. But with something as important as plumbing I wouldn't risk it and am so grateful I found Mr Rooter.

Tech was excellent. Told me exactly what needed to be done but could not give me a price. After supervisor arrived he told me that the "book" said the price was 1200.00. Total parts were maximum 100.00 and said was 4 hours worth of work. 1200.00 dollars? I did not have them complete the work. Found another plumber that did the job for 500.00

I bought the Angie's List Big Deal for $295 for a $750-$850 hydro jet and video inspection service. The hydro jetting service of my main sewer line was amazingly fast and high tech. They used a locating device to track the hydro jet head 8ft under my property to map the progress. Next a video camera was dropped in parallel to the jet and made sure everything was clear. Additionally I learned repairs had been made to the sewer line prior to us buying the property 14 years earlier. This is truly a pro operation. The video inspection sealed the deal on my level of confidence in their work. The main line works perfectly and I am dead positive I have no ruptured or collapsed portions in my sewer line.

We received a call from our tenant that a toilet was leaking. I contacted Mr Rooter, Long Beach, before 5pm and asked how quickly they could get out there and assess the situation. They arrived within 30 minutes of my call and did not charge me extra for doing so. The seal was no longer functioning under the toilet so they removed the toilet, replaced the seal, and placed the toilet back again. Happy tenant. Their standard charge was $195.00 for this job description.

I was having a problem with my dishwasher draining. I appreciated that they were honest. They came out and said they wouldn't be able to do the job for us. It's not a clogged drain issue, but something to do with the pump. Unclogging the drain wouldn't do the trick. I was happy that he offered a refund for the deal rather than taking the money and not doing the job.

The deal was helpful but the experience with Mr. Rooter was not great. In the course of testing the line, they put pressure on the system and then they see where the leaks are. We found out that the amount of pressure that they used was substantially more than what was necessary. They exacerbated extra things. They made the problem a lot worst. The estimate that they gave us to make the repair was $4000 or $5000. I was happy to get a coupon from Angie’s List because that reduced the cost of the initial service cost but I won’t utilize Mr. Rooter again unless it’s just for a basic rooter job. I won’t use them for any plumbing. It was not a problem getting someone to come out and look at it. That was not the issue at all. We paid a lot more than the $99 deal. I wouldn’t recommend them for a plumbing job. I’ve used them before just for a rooter service and that’s fine but my impression is that they were trying to do an outrageous upsale. They were professional and they did what they said they were going to do.

Response from Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Long Beach
[member name removed], I am sorry that we could not provide you with what you were looking for, but hope that you have resolved your problem safely. When testing gas pipes the minimum required test pressure is 10 PSI. Most building inspectors require the system to be holding 12 – 15 PSI when they arrive to inspect. For a system to not hold 15 PSI would be considered unsafe and a potential hazard. Andy initially pressurized your gas system to 10 psi and found that it dropped pressure so quickly that he could perform an inspection, so he pressurized it to 15 psi and found that the gas pipes that were recently installed had numerous leaks.

Due to stringent rules here at my condo association, it took 6 days, 2 visits, and 2 technicians to complete my simple job. Both Shilo (first visit) and Kurt, who did the work, were pleasant, efficient, neat, and professional. It was explained to me that the job would run over by $16.61. I agreed. The work went smoothly. Kurt cleaned up after himself and was here and gone in under an hr. Shilo even complimented my artwork! :o) I'm very satisfied. I was especially impressed by the follow-up call I received immediately after the work was completed, and the email of appreciation I received today. Regards to all, Pam

[Member Names], I apologize for the miscommunication in the additional pricing of $875 for the hydrojetting. You should have been made aware that we do have a storefront offer on Angie's List for $295 to hydrojet. The service is through an accessible clean-out and has an additional charge of $140 for an extra man on the roof. Best Regards, Tanya Harlow Mr. Rooter Plumbing 562-427-7752

The installation went very well. There were two technicians who arrived to replace my toilet, using one that I had previously purchased. The new toilet was still in my truck, and they were gracious enough to take it out. They then went about removing the old toilet and replacing it with a new one. Normally, a toilet needs a supply valve. There's usually a charge for that part, but the supervisor "threw that in," as well. By using two technicians, it also expedited the replacement process. Apparently, they do not normally remove the old toilet from the premises, however, they did that for me at this time. I would not have known what to do with the toilet, so I appreciate the gesture. They also made recommendations regarding other services I could have taken advantage of to assist the toilet installation and for the longevity of the toilet. Buying the coupon was a good move on my part, because if not, it would have been very costly to have them replace it. I feel very comfortable and confident with the work that was performed for me. I would use them again.

The job took nearly 8 hours but most of that was due to all the digging (by hand) involved. The dirt in my yard is very hard, compacted clay. They guys performing the work were professional and all appeared to have very up to date equipment to help them "see" what they were dealing with underground, and find what they were looking for, in and outside of the existing drainage/ sewage pipes. They did run into a little difficulty at one point but they were unwilling to leave until all the work was completed, everything buttoned up, and I was satisfied. That piece of mind that they weren't going to leave me without running water for the night was priceless. All is working as is should and we have had no trouble since.

Rooter came promptly. Did the needed work quickly. Then told my property manager that we need to remove and replace an old and deteriorated sewer pipe at total cost of $2563.When I questioned this further, he provided an estimate and explained that the pipe was old and deteriorated and needed to be replaced. I then spoke with our regular plumber. He reviewed the situation and concluded that while YES the pipe is old and will not last forever, NO we should NOT replace the pipe based on one backup during the four years we've owned the property and can probably wait for years before replacement is needed. Further, Mr. Rooter did not follow the common practice of sending a camera down the system to fully examine for problems before recommending a high cost repair. That's the bad news. NOW THE GOOD NEWS. When I complained, the owner promptly called me and politely asked what went wrong. He wanted to make sure he understood every detail of the interaqction and he acknowledged that his employee made an error in pushing as firmly as he did for the repair. He apologized and said he'd be more careful about outlining options in the future. He DIDN'T ask me to change my review. Simply offered to do better next time. My revised opinion. This guy is for real. He probably won't be my first choice next time, but I would go back to him for minor repairs or for a second quote on a big job. So don't take it on faith if they say you need an expensive repair and do ask to speak with the boss in detail.
