We needed some odds and ends taken care of like checking on light fixtures and replacing a gasket on a wall heater. I’ve used them before for plumbing service for another Big Deal but now they are telling me that this doesn't count as residential service since I am a landlord.

+ -1 moreHow did it go? Well, he did not show up that Saturday. I called the office 10 minutes before their closing time at noon and left a message. I heard from no one until Monday morning. A lady called and wanted to reschedule, with no explanation for the no show. By this point, I no longer had any confidence in this plumber. We hired another plumbing company and they fixed the problem in 2 hours! They knew exactly what to do and it did not require tearing down a wall. This all happened several months ago so I've cooled down about the whole fiasco. What I learned from this experience is to take Angie List ratings with a grain a salt. .
Description of Work: The date of the attempted repair was around May 2012. Problem was a plugged up sink on 3rd floor of a townhouse/condo. Plumber spent several hours over two days and unable to unplug. He was to come back on a Saturday to open up a wall to get at the pipes. So I've taken time off from work over two days.

+ 0 moreMost of what was supposed to go in this section was described in the "services performed" section. Overall, we are happy with the look of the windows and it appears the installation was done properly. But, unhappy and angry with the poor and incompetent clean up or lack of. Time will tell if the quality of the windows and quality of installation was as promised. The only reason I would have any doubt about the quality of the installation is the way they cut corners on the clean up process. I did speak to the person in charge of the installation workers the day after installation. They offered to send the crew to clean up the hazardous mess left but, when your 5 and 11 year old like to walk around the house barefoot, waiting is not an option. In fairness, the installers of the window may have been different from Action Services but, in my eyes they (A.S.) is responsible for any sub-contractors they hire.
Description of Work: Prior to purchasing this Angie's List deal, I checked to make sure the company would honor the "whole house window replacement" as described. So, I asked Action Services (A.S.) to come out to look at our windows to confirm we qualified for the deal. They confirmed we qualified. We then purchased the deal. I called A.S. to set the install date only to hear our windows were now beyond the scope of the deal because our windows were too large. After some back and forth, A.S. did honor the deal. In addition, as a sign of our appreciation we purchase an additional $1200 worth of windows. On installation day, A.S. arrived as promised and scheduled. The three installers quickly got started. They worked efficiently and professionally, until during the removal of the glass from the old windows. I noticed the workers were walking through the house with the broken pieces of glass. I noticed pieces of glass in the throw sheets they laid out as well as glass in my driveway and lawn. I spoke to the installer in charge to express my concern about the well being of my kids from all the pieces of broken glass. He assured me not to worry and that all of it would be cleaned and picked up. I decided to run out to do an errand knowing A.S. still had finishing touches and clean up to do. I was gone for a total of 30 minutes when A.S's truck passed me on my way back. I stopped, waving in hopes they would stop. But, they just kept on going. When I arrived home, I noticed all the pieces of glass still on my driveway and lawn where my kids play. I immediately went into the house to look for pieces of broken glass. We spent the next several hours cleaning,sweeping, and vacuuming throughout the inside and outside of the house. Despite all the cleaning up, my son managed to cut his foot on a piece of glass that imbedded in the bottom of his foot while walking inside the house. I still have all the broken pieces of glass, weather stripping, pieces of plastic cut of the tips of all the calking tubes they used and left all over my house inside and out. Yes, my wife signed off on the form indicating they performed all of the work stated on the form. But, she was more concerned about the details of the window installation and not the clean up. The pictures of my son's bloody foot, pieces of glass, and debris says it all. This left me angry and it overshadowed all the positive things A.S. provided. Because they cut corners during the clean up makes me wonder if they cut corners in the installation process. My suggestion to you if you decide to have Action Services perform work on your property is make sure they follow through with the clean up.

+ 0 moreAction offered a coupon for new windows for $2,999. After having other companies come out to give me an estimate, I knew this was an excellent price. I made arrangements with John Santore to have someone come out to measure my windows. I was told it would take 3-4 hours for installation. The workers came right on time and got the windows installed within the time frame. After the work was completed, I inspected the work, they looked great, and they made sure I was happy before I signed off on them. They were prompt and professional, and they did an excellent job. Afterwards one of my neighbors came over to look at the windows and they later had Action Services install some new windows in their home.

+ 0 moreMy water heater hadn't been serviced in years... they took it down to the bones and cleaned the rust and build up and replaced the ionizing coil in the center that had about an inch of residue built up on it. They cleaned out the cabinet in which the water heater was stored, sealed cracks in the walls and then created a new vent on the ceiling for proper ventilation while keeping debris to a minimum. Excellent and thorough work.

He said he would send me an estimate for the cost of work, but never called or e-mailed.I have indicated that the price for the service inspection was fair ($35.00). But because I didn't receive a call back with and estimate for rerepairs, I would not use this company for future work.
Description of Work: Only an inspection of all plumbing to determine what plumbing services needed to be performed. It was determined that a bathroom sink and fixtures needed replacing and a filter replaced in the kitchen sink faucet.

+ 1 moreI noticed a leak under my sink coming from my water filtration cartridge. It was very corroded and I was unable to remove it, so I called Action Services. The plumber who came was finally able to remove it after considerable effort, and he then installed the new cartridge. I also asked him to replace my instant hot water system with a new one I had purchased. He did all the work well, and was courteous, friendly, and professional.

The representative from Action Services arrived at the agreed upon time and removed the old unit, and installed the new one in approx. 40 minutes. He was pleasant and took the necessary steps to protect the work area by covering the entire area to ensure that he contained the debris. The new garbage disposal works well and I'm so pleased that I was able to take advantage of this offer. I would consider using Action Services again for future jobs.

+ -1 moreWe bought this as a "big deal". We had trouble scheduling with this place last spring so we tried again with something we thought would be simple. We asked that they hang a kayak rack in the garage. They knew what the job would be. After changing the day twice, they finally showed up without the tools or skill to do the job. It had to go into a stud in the ceiling and they couldn't find a stud so several holes were drilled into the finished ceiling. It was obvious it wouldn't hold. The guy gave up, packed up what tools he brought and left saying we could have a refund. I don't know who he was but he didn't have the skills to called a handyman. We asked a friend (not a handyman) to help a few days later and it was done perfectly in half an hour. We wasted two vacation days waiting for these poeple. We never heard anything else from them.
